From a young senior grandma, believe me when I say that those 50 horses went to heaven on earth when you took them in. I have owned 7 equines in the past 35 years, all from the slaughter pipeline. They have all been incredible, lovely and talented animals once settled in. We still have 2 mini donkeys in their late 20's and a mare and gelding saved from auction when their owner suddenly died and the family did not want them. We have had to say goodbye to 3 of our kids, 35 y/o gelding, young 16 y/o mare and a 43 y/o mini donkey who passed away peacefully on her own. A rarity that I am grateful occurred and she died in her sleep. Unfortunately, in Florida, we have kill buyers at every turn because of the race tracks here. If we as equine enthusiasts would take the time to consider some incredible throw aways, many more horses and donkeys would add joy to new homes! Adopt only if you can be a forever home or have a fool proof backup plan should you not be able to care for them until their final day on earth. Happy New Year and thank you for educating people and saving equine lives!

Congratulations! I love seeing horses saved and given a new chance for a great life! I have 3 horses so I understand the costs involved in caring for each horse. Have you considered asking for a grant through HPHS in Tennessee?
Thanks! HPHS are no longer giving grants to rescues outside their circle of life group as far as we're aware
"Vaquero" (pronounced: va - kero OR ba - kero) ...Spanish for cowboy. Maybe, "Wrangler" also another word for cowboy. Nice looking horse. So glad he was rescued. 🐎💗💗

What is RH Farms’ experience with horses that are too unhealthy to continue? We all look forward to watching RH grow this year!
We always get a vet opinion on quality of life - if there isn't any then we say goodbye. If they can be helped, even if it will take even a year, then we do!
@rhfarmstables yes, I was trying to politely ask how many have "left". I missed that # in the stats given. Mb I just blipped out a second.
We have never had to let a horse go without at least 3 months of effort, though some have passed naturally or had emergencies.
