My husband can now work from home, so we've decided to travel more. We plan on taking long " road trips" to places we've never been to. COVID changed many lives, and one of them is business's realized they can trust their employees to work from home (or RV).
We've ordered a new RV and are looking forward to some happy trails.

We have been full timing just since Aug 21. We have had zero issues finding campsites. This includes Yellowstone and The Grand Tetons. We dont plan too far ahead, and use a combination of campgrounds, rv parks, and boondocking.

We are on the road for usually 9 months or more a year traveling from job to job and haven't ran into issues. Also, I enjoy your videos. Thanks for keeping it real!

Thank you for your input regarding full-time RV life. I have been full-time now 4 1/2 years and have recently read quite a bit on different forums about exactly what you described in your video. It was rather depressing and I really hoped that it isn’t true, you’ve given me new hope that there is still plenty out there to see and do and enjoy a full-time RV life. Safe travels. 👍🏻❤️

John ❤️this video, all of the scenery is 👍👍. You’re talking about more camp grounds being built, that’s great, as long as they’re not like a parking lot. You can’t enjoy being packed in like sardines. You were talking about hearing about some people quitting RVING, we heard the same thing; #1 reason is rude and obnoxious rv’ers. John ❤️your videos about cheap RV locations, 👍👍👍👍keep’m coming & have a blessed day today and God Bless

Very good points. We see more and more RV's of all types on the roads, but we also see a lot more uses of the RV Resort Parks, with full amenities.
We've had just a little trouble getting reservations, at the more popular national and state parks. But we enjoy the lesser known federal campgrounds and regional and county campgrounds. And it seems we can always find a smaller RV Park if we want to. We can easily boon-dock for 5 days so no biggie for us. And when we travel we try to stop by 4:00pm and there seems to be enough 1st come or nonreservable sites around.
Keep living and sharing the good life y'all.

I wish the rumors were true for weekend campers at least. I have been weekending for years and this year has been awful for finding sites and also for finding respectful neighbors at the site that you do find. It is mid October and a dry campground in the mountains that is normally empty this time of year was completely full. It was very disappointing because I prefer off-season camping to get away from the crowds. But unfortunately I had loud partiers until late hours last night and this has been my experience the past six+ months. It is making me want to quit weekending to be honest. It’s too full and people are too rude for me to spend the time and money to get somewhere and not have a nice experience.

Nothing worse than "those people" / kids partying all night disrespectful to us old folk. (Speaking for myself. Pardon me for just a moment.....HEY YOU KIDS! GET OFF MY LAWN! )
There were a few spots in so cal we frequented. Friday's and Saturday were never enjoyable. It's one thing about all night but all day as well

Yes, we sold our fifth wheel for top dollar this year. Also sold our pick up truck for more then we paid for it. Not finding sites and campgrounds wanting $100+ per night is insane. Maybe we will come back to it later but for now we are traveling and staying in hotels. Really enjoying not towing and constantly repairing the RV.

    • @chrischapman276
      @chrischapman276 3 года назад

@@wk2761 The used prices are insane compared to years before. We are shopping and firstly, finding one with the "perfect plan" is difficult but then, finding one "that'll work" is priced at a close to new price.
Good for you though. Wondering if you and I met with your rig and truck. Had a guy out here that did the exact same as you.

So happy to see you enjoying this gorgeous part of Utah. I wish I knew how to share the video of a Great Horned Owl in an aspen tree in my front yard. He was there 2 years in a row and all other birds were going nuts trying to harass him enough to make him leave. Makes me happy to know you have traveled past the NPs to other amazing parts of Utah. You must come back and let me know when! Thanks for the fun Jeep trail. There are so many.

Just as many people are looking to buy houses. So it’s both demand for RV and housing. There could be trade offs. Many homeowners could be cashing out and using some funds to buy an RV. I’m also getting my pool remodeled for a house I bought a few years ago. Pool remodeling is a huge thing since the pandemic especially for staycations.

I see more folks at campgrounds and one reason on some is there are folks who pay for full time spaces and live there. I have no problem with that as long as they keep their space clean and not look like a dump. Also as long as we can book a spot there when we need it as well. We just got back from staying at one of our local favorites last week to get some overdue plumbing done on our house. We are going to have a cold front moving in so going to get it winterized tomorrow before it hits.

Unfortunately the cost of the RV is not the only expense. We just paid over $3000 (8 mpg Class C) this trip in fuel to visit Yellowstone and GrandTetons, not to mention Camping Fees. Bought tires when I got home another $1,600.00. Getting ready to wax again, never ends.

  • @VoklstWestie

I dont think anyone is "quitting" however, I do believe a good many full-timers are getting a "home base" !!
Its just easier post office wise, insurance, loans, dentist, doctor, etc. I have not yet bought my RV, as I do my research. I am planning on a home base or two.
I also believe the older an RVer gets the larger RV's or 5th wheels or Class A's get traded in & up for smaller, more compact and less work RV's to enjoy the journey more with less hassel. Omo

Reasons: #1 Pain in the ass to tear down & set up, #2 tired of planning and navigating, #3 wear and tear on the vehicals, #4 seen enough lakes, waterfalls etc to last a lifetime, #5 cost of food, #6 cost of gas, #7 need more community/people interaction, #8 gonna workamp the next few years. I'm simply pooped.

I agree with the issues of cost and rv techs being booked. Our retirement plan was to do the rv life. Unfortunately my husband passed away as a result of an accident during the first year. I've been carrying on. Have a 44 ft. fifth wheel. At 65 with physical impairments it's difficult. Spend my summers in Ohio and winters in North Carolina. I have kids living in both states. But it's hard to do everything. Our plan was to travel other places, but I can't afford or manage it on my own. Love camping and I'm trying to continue. My kids worry about my traveling alone. But I'm going to contnue s long as I can. Love watching your videos.

Since there are more RVs than ever then it would make sense that the raw number of quitters is going up. LOL on the dirty Jeep comment. Do you fill up your water supply before moving to a dry camping area or do when you get there?

I think you will see a lot of bigger city dwellers go back to the cities once they are fully up and running again. I work remote full time, but my company still has a office in Chicago that they still havent reopened yet. I got a couple of friends that just got RV's for covid to travel and have said they are selling them once things turn more normal consistently. I'm looking into a TT for me and my GF and our kids to get out and travel and stay at state/fed parks for a couple of days or a week at a time. I could never full time RV. I enjoy my house too much, but I still like to get out into parks and hike and explore. I'm just getting too old to tent camp for any longer then a couple of days.

Sandra Westley uk, most RUclips people run several weeks in hand, there’s a lot of work editing and it takes time to do these things and enjoy your holiday destination.

@@robwestley7370 Ok…….. I was asking them not YOU. I understand the RUclips process BUT was just asking THEM when to see if they were still in my area. So unless YOU can answer my question that was asked you should have passed by. Thanks though for waisting my time in responding.

So how do you like your Wrangler? I'll be going full time in a month or two and am looking for a good toad and most opinions lead back to the Unlimited. I have a '14 Silverado 4x4 but don't want to flat tow that for the obvious reasons. Also it's my understanding you can't back up when flat towing, which would be the only reason I'm not down with flat tow. Thanks for all the good info!

If some people quit so be it. More campgrounds for us.

  • @RVMD95

The more people that quit are quickly replaced with people starting out. I’ve had my fifth wheel for two years now. I bought it used it’s a beautiful trailer 2006. If you can believe it it has 0 miles on it. It was delivered to the campground from Illinois. It stayed in that campground for 15 years and then I went and picked it up. The tires still had those little rubber knobs on them brand new tires unfortunately the 15 year old tires can’t be used but it still neet. The reason we’re stuck in our sticks and bricks is because we need a new heavy truck to tow our 18,000 pound fifth wheel. I have a 2008 GMC 1 ton it’s a WT and it has every towing option that you can get and the tow rating is only 12,500 pounds. Back then that’s the way it was. Now I need a heavy truck that can tow 18k! There are none available? If one does come available it’s 15-20 grand over the MSRP! Can’t afford that. I can hardly afford the truck as it is 80 grand? Ouch!

I've heard this.... trucks are crazy priced as well but really???? They're jacking the price THAT crazy? I was debating getting a newer truck than my 2014 dually ram but I'm thinking it'll do for now

Well, I live in Florida and I haven't heard about7000new spots, but I have seen the prices go sky high in the parks, there are spots that aren't exactly amenity filled and there going for a hundred bucks during the season.
Since Florida is a tourist state there ten free parks in the state and most are primitive.
So if you buy a r.v. in Florida your gonna pay the same as going to a resort where you don't have to buy all the fun stuff that a resort supplies. People bought r.v.sbecause of covid to get out, eventually it will end and the price of the average r.v. is going to tank.
The real fact is the best camping and the most is out west, the east coast is tough to get spots that are affordable, and there very few blm land.
Florida beaches mean red tide a good portion of the time, but most people totally miss central Florida.

I hate to complain but I totally agree. 6 month in advance reservations which used to be 2 weeks in Florida for such State Parks as Anastasia and Sebastian is depressing. Did an August trip to Sturgis, Yellowstone and Grand Tetons have to spend $3000 in fuel.

I wish it was untrue. Have you seen the prices of even used models lately????!!!!! I'm looking at a $60k coach used at the least so far, looking at the 40+footers. It's hard to find a reasonably priced one with the good sized kitchen and living with a bunk house/ office.
