I don't care who sings for VH as long as I get to see Eddie play!
Dude knows how to comment .....
Ditto
Eddies playing on VH3 is killer
Best VH album! Look how much fun Eddie is having! 💚🎸
@@syfman6WHAT?????
No.
Eddie’s playing on the 98 tour was so crisp . Flawless !
honestly MA's best bass performance holy cow
wanted to hate this. is actually very good. eddie guitar playing is top notch here..
All the positive comments below are totally on point. Their sober playing was tight on this tour with Gary.
THis is better than the album version....
That's what I thought! :D
The whole album sounded like crap. Eddie knew it before it was released and went to Warner Bros to try and stop it from being released the way it was mastered. I don’t remember the details as to what he said was wrong with it but something about the mix having no bottom end. These songs sound so much better live because you can actually hear the instruments and how they’re suppose to sound. I don’t know crap as far as the technical side of mixing and audio recordings but as a drummer I know Al’s drums sounded beyond horrible on that record and Al knows how to tune his drums. Van Halen 3 even if it had been mixed better just wasn’t a good record. As a die hard VH fan I tried to like it but this song, Without You, Fire in the Hole and Year to the Day were the only good tracks. Even those 4 weren’t great. I think this is the best song on the album because it’s got a lot time changes while still jamming. Bottom line Gary Cherone wasn’t a good fit for Van Halen and at the time Eddie was in the beginning stages of what would be a downward spiral and a band that, despite the singer drama, was as solid as a Rock Band as their was and it just all came crashing down starting with this. The band rebounded with Roth to put out a good album and some good tours (yes Roth can’t sing anymore). So the band at least finished on a high note and it didn’t end with VH3 or that disastrous 2004 tour. Bottom line the best American Hard Rock Band Ever!
@@breauxcewayne1971 Yeah, it was such a shame as Balance had such a great sound to it, from the way it was mixed and engineered by Erwin Musper, right down to Eddie's guitar tone. I really believe Van Halen III would have been received so much better if Bruce Fairbairn had produced it and Erwin Musper engineered it. Bruce would have had the good sense to admit Gary was singing out of his range, trying too hard to sound like Sammy!
@@breauxcewayne1971 I keep saying it. While Gary may not have been right at that moment in time when people got all excited in 1996 thinking Roth was back...I still put a lot of blame on the fans. I've been a VH fan for decades and have long thought VH fans are the worst. This album was not horrible and the tour was great if you managed to see them live. But, fans were assailing the band and album before it was even out. Van Halen is a band whose fans flatly refuse to accept anything that doesn't fit into their narrow perception of what THEY think the band should be. Music changes as those who make it change and grow. THIS was the direction Ed was headed creatively. A more mature tone to things. But, it wasn't Hot For Teacher or 5150, so the fans pitched a fit. Eddie wanted to evolve. GUARANTEED that's part of why 2004 was a disaster and why there's been virtually no new music in 22 years. He was unhappy being a fucking circus monkey for a bunch of entitled ass-clowns with their heads stuck in the 80s.
@@crazysnarfy861 yeah you made another good point about this album and that’s the fact Gary was singing out of his range. Listen to Gary sing Mean Streets during this show and it’s pretty good. When he tried to sing the Hagar stuff it was out of his range. On Van Halen 3 he was singing out of his range. He was kind of in the middle of Roth and Hagar range wise. He has charisma but of course not as much as Dave because nobody did. He had range but not as much as Sammy and I think Sammy had the perfect range for a hard rock band. They should of just let Gary be Gary. Maybe they did and Gary felt the need to try and sing as high as Hagar. Year to the Day and Learning to See are similar types of songs. Where the singing and music very melodic and soft at first and then it the music and singing both get heavy. Cherone did a better job on Year to the Day than Hagar did on Learning to See. Gary was good at singing something soft and low then suddenly transitioning to hard and heavy. They were doing a follow album to Van Halen 3 with Gary and I heard it was a lot better than VH3. I don’t think Gary was a good
fit overall but it could of been better and probably worked if they had a producer that would of actually challenged and pushed the band to get it right. I’m all for evolving. Balance was completely different than anything they’d ever done but it still sounded like a VH record. VH3 did not sound like a VH record.
By the way if you respond it’ll probably be another year before I respond. I was watching this video and saw that I commented on it and you responded lol
=\/|-|= Forever!!!
Love Gary Cherone and Extreme. R.I.P. Eddie Van Halen ✝️🙏❤️😓
to watch Michael Anthony play with his steady playing, timing and singing is absolutely amazing this is why all the members in VH works... MA doesn't get enough credit
Mike has always been awesome but he really turned it up a notch on this tour. I have a feeling that Ed loosened his grip on him a little and told him to go all out and he played his ass off.
So true!!
@@jeremysenecal5340 Probably had something to do with the fact that Mike barely played on VHIII. Eddie didn't come up with any particularly special bass parts so he probably just let Mike do his thing. Might have also felt bad, or Mike felt like he needed to prove he was still useful to the band if Ed was going to start recording bass parts too.
This is the best Van Halen. The only album of theirs I like
wow!
Troll post lol
Eddie Van Halen the greatest innovator....
I`ve always thought this was the best song they did with Cherone.
One of their best songs was one they didn’t even release, “That’s Why I Love You.” You can find the demo version on RUclips. So dumb not to release that song, it could’ve been a real hit at the time.
Ant Man! Not in Infinity War.
Giant Man! That's actually Ant Man again.
Triangle Man! Hates Particle Man.
They will fight! Triangle Man wins!
From Toddintheshadows
I miss Van Halen 3 - this song was insanely good
I feel genuinely sad for all the losers that never gave Gary Cherone or VH3 a chance - you missed out! Big time!
For me VH3 is a big part of Van Halen and Eddie’s legacy.
I feel sorry for losers who think people are losers who didn't like VH III. I gave it a chance, and it fucking sucks
You're probably one of them guys who think Blaze bayley is better than Bruce Dickinson too LOL
Agreed
@@mikebasterd9645 lol for real hahahahaha
VH3 is Shit. Complete Shit.
The III record is now becoming a go to as well as the other albums. its just a little different. From Afar and Dirty Water Dog are also cool
Um nah. It’s a really bad album.
No.
Love Ed’s wah solo here.
No one else could do it like him!
One of Ed’s best rhythm playing and solo.
One of the better songs from the VH3 album. This is even better than the album version
That shit sounded damm near just like the album. Awesome.
The solo is heavy , great stuff
I agree but lots of people apparently shit on this album cause it wasnt with Roth or hagar tbh I thought this album has alot of great songs and gary took on the challenge he knew it would be to be the lead singer of vam halen and did it like a champ you gotta give him credit for that pretty sure he was only kicked out cause the album didnt sell as much as eddie wanted it to dont think the halen brother faught with him we know Michael sure didnt hes one cool ass bass player seemed to love everyone and just wanted to play music for us fans
Fire in the hole sounds awesome as well
Of course it's Live
Anyone that believes ed taught mike how to play bass is delusional. Great job Mickey
Btw, that's not a slap on anyone in this song. Just pounting out how freeking great mike's influence is on this band as a whole. No matter who the feont man is. I like sam dave and gary. Mike is the binder.
Michael is an absolute beast.. to watch him keep it all in check with timing... Hes so Fing GOOD!
My favorite song from "III".
No.
This song was really good live. RIP, Eddie!
Gary Cherone Love you so much ❤️🎶 ... Eddie Van Halen is a Legend R.I.P.
No.
Love this song
This guy is awesome & he can sing & entertain
He's should have stayed in the band
No thanks.... I went to this concert. He gave a valiant effort.. but was not a great fit...
@@MOPARMANIATEXAS and all the fans bitching led to what? More break ups! No albums!
I agree Gary was really good , he just wasn't excepted by lots of VHs Fans .
It wasn't the fan's fault VH broke up all the time. It was Eddie and Alex's fault. @@stevenlornie1261
This album very weird, unusual!!! Also brilliant . ✌️it’s one of those rare gems 💎. Long live Eddie !!! Fucking awesome 👏!!!
Im a total EVH freak..... I always wanted to hear what they would of came with if the had a "darker" singer like Chris Cornell. Anybody else?
Pink Floyd. Listen to Roger Waters and EVH collaborating on the film “The Legend of 1900” soundtrack. Gives one a hint how Eddie playing for Pink Floyd could sound.
love this song
Great album awesome show
Perfection
:/
This was an absolutely outstanding concert.
No.
There are some good rock songs on VH3.
Van Halen
"One I Want"
Live In Sydney, Australia
On Their Van Halen III Tour, 1998
This is my favorite drum set of big Al's
I love EVERY song on Van Halen for one reason or another.
EVH is the Only One I Want .....
Cool song, sounds waaaay better than the studio version. Hopefully they release some VH3 live versions of the album songs at some stage.
I guess they had a live album planned from what gary has said, you can find the show that was supposed to be released but its pretty raw
Sacked man, used to play bass in this band....Wolfgang, got the gig with uncle and dad....Roth man too big for his britches, he comes & he goes......Tequila man , he add structure, making song outta Eddie noise......Gary man , imitate Sammy , he do what Ed say.....Illiterate man writer of “One I want”.......Tasteless man, setting for subpar lyrics, got a seat up front......
This was their best tour post-1986. Edward never played this well and with such passion after this.
Nice wah solo..ED..!!
1:22 I don't think Alex gets the respect he deserves as a drummer. This camera shot shows he was still keeping the beat and playing with a sense of urgency, broken neck and all. Nothing short of impressive.
Underrated singer.
This Tour of OZ was AMAZING and 'One I Want' is a Fantastic Song....One of The Standout Tracks on Van Halen III....Sales were poor 4 the Album, but it is One of Van Halen's Gr8est Albums, IMHO....Cheers from Damo.
The vocals in this incarnation of the band are stellar

@howzaou812 Dude, check out VH's new album "A Different Kind of Truth," 'cause Ed has never sounded so good. If you like this, you'll LOVE their newest album w/ David Lee Roth.....at least Gary Cherone can say he fronted Van Halen....I wish I had that on my job description......peace+love2all......
Don't know why VH3 gets so much hate. It's such a good album
I never knew Billy Squire played guitar that good.
Good God Gary I mean really
not a great album, but this is a great fucking song.
steve h sure a great tour
agreed. best setlist they had since Dave left by far. Ed's playing was phenomenal on that tour.
my song for my wedding
I agree good song their playing is very tight here. To bad for Gary too much history here man. DLR was the frontman. Even Sammy had trouble I saw them 3 times in 5150 tour, San Diego, Los Angeles and Connecticut were they did live video tape. In Los Angeles Sammy had a hard time with the crowd...
hilarious lyrics
I was there
When did Ted Danson sing with VH ??? Seriously though, Cherone sounded great with VH ... They never gave him a real chance
Eddie, Alex n Mikey played better with Gary Cherone in the band
No.
Alex be like "Gary get the fuck away from me and my drums"
I love this album Too bad cherone didn’t stay
Rodman. Grabs a rebound and passes to
Jordan. Drives it right to the hole
Pippen. Gets back on defense
Longley. Gets in on the block.
Harper. Under rated in his prime
Kukoc. 6th man is good for a dime.
Good riffs by Eddie and good groove by Alex and Mike. The issue is Cherone's vocals and lyrics.
I know Ed's sober on this ; )
I think this tour is the best Eddie's played in a while..Man he was on fire this night. This song is really good..I just cant stand Gary's onstage persona.
I totally agree,, his playing was great on this project.
Why Mike Post produced this album is beyond me.
Great song! Smallest rig I've ever seen Edward use. Pretty weird.
The rig probably isn’t any smaller than his normal rig, he just doesn’t have a wall of dummy cabinets and amp heads behind him. At most, these guys are using one or two amps and cabs mic’ed up live, anything else is overkill. The rest is for show
@@GeorgeZimmermen Actually I think you're right, I think I remember Edward saying that in an interview.
@@deanallen927 well, that’s not just particular to Ed, most guitarists in big bands do the same thing. A wall of dummy heads and cabinets for the stage show, but only one or two each are actually turned on.
@@GeorgeZimmermen Gee d'ya think? Not only has judas Priest has been doing that since they started, but they'd open the show with four of them opening up like a door and Rob riding onto the stage on a Harley.t they
@@deanallen927 I’m aware. Priest is my second favorite band of all time behind Van Halen. Seen em twice live.
It’s too bad this line-up couldn’t make it commercially. Their album was really good, but nobody could get past all the drama. (Another big mistake: They cut a more poppy song, “That’s Why I Love You,” which could’ve been a real mainstream hit.)
Who came here cause of Todd In The Shadows?
Mr. Music Fan meeee
Not me. Just came up in my YT feed. I’ve been watching interviews from this era recently though.
Is that steve miller?
He had to get away from the Sam and Dave tones and try to discover something new on his own. That is Van Halen 3. So when everyone bad mouths the outcome....Well guess what'...Ed wanted it and Ed discovered these new chops as a result
Anyone know whats hanging off eddies guitar here? Looks like his cable is managed down it
Honestly Gary sounds better than Dave live
This entire album gets slammed all the time. I don't get it. It's not amazing but it's not terrible by any means.
I see it the same way I see "Balance" some good songs and some bad songs , neither of these two albums represent VH anywhere near their creative peak.
Mark 3 был неплох, вот только недооценили его капитально..
Thank God they did 1 album , like this. THIS IS NOT VH !!||
All Van Halen is Van Halen!
Open your VH horizons!
Shit , I opened my VH horizon in 1986. That worked out ok. I actually saw Gary an the rest of the band live. Like I said, thank God Gary only did 1 album. VH with Gary sounds closer to Sam then Dave . but Sammy can write lyrics , way better than Gary. VH III is more like Eddie joined extreme !!!
Damnit Gary stop trying to sound like Sammy
Obviously the candy man couldn't....
Van Halen III was a strong producer away from being a success. There's some killer riffs and playing on this album but the whole band, including Gary, could have shined with a great producer. Ed was on the verge of becoming a mess and didn't want to listen to anyone. One of his bad decisions.
shit this is great but almost (gulp) cocaine fast!!! no wonder cherone is winded. poor guy
Gary tried hard in this band but he just wasnt a good fit for this band.
Worst. Lyrics. Ever.
Horrible.
Don’t admit to the whole world that’s your stupid
this is my like 👎from Gary cheronne 🎤👎man is wrong from Van Halen 👎👎👎
Dude sounds like a.cat when it gets it's tail slammed in a door. Good thing Sammy came around dude couldn't get a gig signing back up for the Red Rock. But no one I repeat No One can hold a candle to Diamond Dave what a showman. R.I.P -Mr. ED CU soon .
