Idea for stealing points, possibly for a thieves themed episode. If you identify what is wrong but don't correctly correct it, either by incorrect correction or not trying, then if someone correctly corrected it they steal one of your points.

In Naruto Shippuden, the only person who knows these techniques is Itachi Uchiha due to a distinct lack of living Uchihas.

I was gonna say. It’s a school where you learn all aspects of combat, some of which includes magic. But I’d classify it more as a military school than anything.
@@EStramel09however, the main thing that sets SeeD apart from other armed forces is their use of magic, so in the context of being a military academy, they are the magic school.

Mike mentions Golden Age comics (at 19:48 and 20:30), but Beppo the Super-Monkey is actually from the Silver Age, as was Comet the Superhorse - I think Krypto just skates in as "Golden Age" but his family Zypto, Vypto and Nypto are also Silver Age (these three appear in only one story ever, I think - somebody did some DEEP digging). P.S. Comet is a rare example of the Post-Crisis version being even crazier than the Pre-Crisis one.
I think that's just every fandom if you reach a certain amount of people in it. Just the critical mass changes depending on what the fandom is and who the community is originally probably.
6:43 Um, actually, the original 1993 game "Doom" does not feature Mars as a location distinct from its moons. There are only three locations, Phobos, Deimos, and Hell. You could argue that Mars is a location because the first episode takes place on its moon, but we never see the surface of Mars in that game. Deimos isn't even in orbit around Mars anymore by the time the game starts, having been teleported to somewhere above Hell.
Um Actually 1939 was a banner year for movies. in addition to _Gone with the Wind_ there was _The Wizard of Oz,_ _Mr. Smith Goes to Washington,_ _Stagecoach,_ _Ninotchka,_ _The Man in the Iron Mask,_ _Goodbye Mr. Chips,_ _The Hunchback of Notre Dame,_ _Gunga Din,_ and like a ton others. It has long been considered the single greatest year in film. But then you didn't have TV, video games, youtube, _Um, Actually_ etc. to distract you from your sucky life. Books, radio and film, that's it.

The red one is the last remnant of OMRI, one of the stranded droid who gave his life to send a distress signal to the Resistance under the acid rain.
Um... Actually! "Balamb Gardens" is not a thing. It is "Balamb Garden". Also, it is not a magic school, it is a military academy for mercenaries that just happens to have some classes on magic, but we never ever actually see any of those classes, so it's only vaguely implied because some of the students use magic. Also also, Magic in that world is something you extract from monsters, it cannot actually be taught. Do y'all not have any Final Fantasy fans on staff?
Um... Actually! Jutsu are not magic spells. Though I'm sure someone else corrected that in a future episode, because I swear I saw that correction in another episode.

When he said and that brings us to our first shiny question of the game an ad popped up and I thought "And that brings us to our first ad of the video."
That's actually not a bad idea. You could implement a round called Nerd Rage or something where you ask each contestant a question that would be OBVIOUS if they were even remotely familiar with an IP. Each person's questions are different but are about the same IP, and if you get it wrong, your have a point removed. These would be super easy questions like "What is the name of the lead protagonist in the first Star Wars movie?" or "What is the name of the grey wizard in Lord Of The Rings?"
They need an episode where they correct movie conversions. Like, they say a fact of something that happened in the live action ATLA movie, and then the contestants have to correct it. You can do book to movie conversions, like eragon, or show to movie like ATLA, or even comic to movie conversions like superhero comics to movies. "The lead characters name is Ong, spelled with an A." "Um actually, it's pronounced Aang."

Um Actually we did know at this point where the red arm came from, simple answer was another droid. A First Order droid named Omri worked with C3PO in a droid-suicide mission to relay the location of the captured Ackbar to the resistance, Omri sacrifices itself and is torn apart by acid rain turning on the distress beacon, the arm was taken so C3PO would remember the fallen droids from this mission.
So where did his silver leg come from?
If I went to a wedding and I was seated at a table with these four people, I would feel like I got the best seat at the wedding. Y'all just have such warm, fun energy.
Um actually, the reason passports must be done by mail is because the postal service is (theoretically) accessible by anyone, so anyone can get a passport by visiting their local post office. Not everyone has access to the internet (or knows how to use it), but almost everyone can go to their post office and mail stuff with the assistance of the staff.
Um actually, that's not a reason to not also be able to do it online.
I love that the guests on this show are always a diverse group of individuals from different backgrounds, genders, races, experiences, etc but they all share their love of geekdom
Happy Friday, fellow routine watchers of Um, Actually!
Hello to you, Benton
Honestly looking forward to this is the only way I make it to Friday most weeks.
Thanks Benton! Happy Friday to you, too!
It's the only way I can keep track of time
Um, Actually there is the possibility of random watchers see this greeting. So is technically wrong.
I couldn't help but imagine a little old lady beating The Rock with a newspaper.
I've always wondered how gone with the wind managed to earn so much money...had no idea it was the only movie in theaters for a while...makes so much sense.
They were way wrong about that though. 1939 was THE best single year for movies of all time, or so the common belief has been.
They were joking about it being the only movie in theaters. However, it did stay in theaters for years and years.
Many releases through the years, as well as cinemas being much, much cheaper back then and it was a bit more of a casual thing to do, so loads of people just went to see it on a whim. Keep in mind that ticket sales weren't as vigorously tracked so the numbers are slight estimates, and inflation isn't always linear, as in not everything gets more expensive all at the same time.
Same!
Um, actually, Beppo the Super Monkey, Krypto the Super Dog, and Comet the Super Horse are products of the Silver Age (1959, 1955, and 1962 respectively) rather than the Golden Age which Trapp erroneously identified.
Supergirl, too (Power Girl didn't debut until 1976, well after the Earth One version)
Also, Supergirl has multiple origins. I DEFINITELY remember the billboard in front of the Superman ride at Six Flags identifying her as a literal angel from another planet (that was not Krypton), and in the DCAU she was from a sister planet to Krypton.
@@ccggenius supergirl has been a mess with dc occasionally wanting superman to be the true last kryptionian but her original and current origin is that she's the cousin of supes and from krypton
Um Actually: 3PO's red arm was a jab at the fans who didn't acknowledge that the droid had a silver right shin from the start. The comic came as an in-universe explanation.
At least, that's what Anthony Daniels said in a video with Wired I think, about the many versions of the costume over the years including the Disneyland animatronics.
Shin, not thigh, and I believe it was his left one.
@@krikorajemian8524 I meant shin haha I've corrected it now, thanks
Um, Actually the original 1993 Doom game does not take place on Mars. The first episode, Knee-Deep in the Dead, takes place in Phobos; the second, The Shores of Hell, takes place in Deimos; and the third, Inferno, takes place in Hell. Hence, only 3 locations.
While I'm sure someone has already said it, UM ACTUALLY 1993's Doom only takes place in three locations: Phobos, Deimos, and Hell. You never visit Mars. And if you count Ultimate Doom, episode 4's Thy Flesh Consumed takes place on Earth.
Umm Actually! Hobnobs are NOT candy Trapp, the contestant was correct in that they are a Biscuit (or Cookie to the yanks, which surprised me when they refered to it as a Biscuit) made of Oatmeal.
Me: "Disney villains? Quick! Go through all your memories of Kingdom Hearts!"
Um, actually, the puffins were on an island in Ireland, not Iceland (unless I misheard??)
Yeah, that was filmed in Ireland. Probably the confusion is because so many movies are filmed in Iceland and it is home to the largest Puffin population in the world.
Um actually Balamb garden is not a magic school it is a school for mercenaries magic in ff8 is not taught it is literally drawn out and stolen from the enemies the characters fight. the character if Quistis gets some of her spells my using parts collected from enemies to get abilities from them.
Ah but where do they learn how to draw out that magical power? That's a learned skill if I ever saw one.
@@Vaishino By that logic, all basic training for military is a school.
@@Lycandros yeah. I mean they're called drill instructors for a reason. Between boot camp and military academies I have zero problems saying there are soldier schools where they teach folks how to be soldiers.
Yes, it's not a magic school, it's a school for mercenaries who can sometimes use magic. Additionally: They also say "balamb gardens" which is incorrect, it's just "balamb garden"
@@carm3154 it's totally a magic school, it teaches them how to use magic. That's like the primary component of the training. If Hogwarts had an accounting course in addition to the magic stuff, you wouldn't say it's not a magic school.
Um actually, the 2005 Doom film specifically turned the demonic evil into an extra chromosome early martians discovered that can (and I wish I was making this up, but it's literally in the script) ... detect evil.
If your a nice guy or himbo you become super human.
And you are turned into a bloodthirsty demonic monster if you are either a murderer, or just even the tiniest bit of an asshole.
"himbo"?
UM ACTUALLY a hobnob is not ‘candy’. It’s a a biscuit, made of oats. Even if you were using the American term, it’s closer to a cookie than candy. Sincerely, a very annoyed Englishman.
Well put, I can't believe he said candy. They're my favourite biscuits. Ugh, I'm so annoyed.
I think England and America have different definitions of candy. If it's a sweet junk food, it's candy.
Idea for stealing points, possibly for a thieves themed episode. If you identify what is wrong but don't correctly correct it, either by incorrect correction or not trying, then if someone correctly corrected it they steal one of your points.
I really like this idea because it rewards full answers, but maybe if it is a permanent or trial thing, it can be used exclusively as a comeback mechanic to keep the game closer if the one who is down does the requirements for the steal.
Many others have said it but it needs to be said again that a hobnob is absolutely not a candy
If I recall correctly Justin Roiland got drunk and then locked in a room to do the improv scenes, pretty amazing
19:45 in: ‘In the golden age of comics they were printed on acid…’ Got me good on that one!
Um actually, there is a technique in Naruto called Izanami that traps your opponent in a Groundhog Day style time-loop until they choose a destiny that is favorable to the user. It was created by the Uchiha clan as a direct counter to Uchiha's who abused the technique Izanagi, which allows the user to essentially rewind time a few minutes/seconds and avoid unfavorable futures. In Naruto Shippuden, the only person who knows these techniques is Itachi Uchiha due to a distinct lack of living Uchihas.
Um, actually, Danzo also knew Izanagi
@@MafiaCow01 Oh shit thats right
Um, actually, the Ach-To scenes weren't filmed in Iceland, they were filmed on Skellig Michel, an Irish island that is also a puffin sanctuary.
aw joan, i actually love it whenever she's on an episode. it's just cool how fast she is on the buzzer and how she knows a lot of the stuff featured!!
This series is the reason I finally read dune and I'm now on the 3rd book! Love the show!
I'm thrilled to hear it! The series beyond that is well worth the pursuit, though I'll warn you that it gets pretty wierd, pretty quickly.
Trapp is right. In a previous episode of the show he asked a question about Samurai Champloo, which I never heard of prior and I checked it out because of this show.
I'm a simple girl, I see Wizard of Earthsea, I click.
It's a shame that you missed the Roke Island School for Wizardry from Earthsea in the question about Wizard Schools.
For the first shiny question, I was screaming Chernabog from Fantasia.
i was screaming for someone to mention sir miles axelrod. so thank you joan for my life
3:50. Um, Actually... Mike, you know that this game is all about being pedantic and whomever is absolutely correct gets the point over somebody who is just generally correct; therefore, the point should not have gone to Joan and should have gone to Jordan.
Um, Actually, Balamb Garden is not a magic school, but a mercenary academy (for teens, because of course). Also, I don't feel like calling magic in Final Fantasy 8 'magic' is particularly accurate since they're all consumable and extracted from monsters and the environment.
But you still learn how to draw and junction magic in classes at Balamb Garden, so it is technically a magic school.
@@FrankiePeanuts I mean, in the same way an architect school makes you a geologist since you’re stacking rocks.
@@FrankiePeanuts So I suppose my elementary school was a music academy because we learned to play recorder.
I was gonna say. It’s a school where you learn all aspects of combat, some of which includes magic. But I’d classify it more as a military school than anything.
@@EStramel09however, the main thing that sets SeeD apart from other armed forces is their use of magic, so in the context of being a military academy, they are the magic school.
its actually wild how i found this show today and was watching the Simpsons episode and this comes out 10 mins later
Um, actually, welcome to the fandom
Just wait for the board game to come out 😉.
17:19 Okay, that TUSHY bidet ad really made me laugh.
I GOT THE EARTHSEA ONE AND I NEVER KNOW THE ANSWER TO ANY OF THESE QUESTIONS
Um actually you should've mentioned that Supergirl dated Comet's human form and Comet decided not to tell her that he was also her horse.
That’s messed up
@@itslexactually yeah comics suck sometimes 🥲
Im loving that the year-old videos are in person again.
Trapp said in the first question "When they were filming in Iceland."
Um Actually... They were filming on Skellig Mhicil in Ireland.
I love how joan just nonchalantly goes through this game
I instantly knew the Question with Comet the Superhorse and I don't know whether to be proud or to be ashamed
Ummmm actually “jutsu” don’t *necessarily* create magical effects. Ninjutsu and genjutsu produce magical effects, taijutsu however is just really good martial arts and doesn’t require the use of chakra. They dont all create magical effects but they are all “jutsu”.
Gotta say-- I subscribed to Dropout specifically for Um Actually, with the plan being to binge all the old episodes and then cancel.
Of course, after seeing Jess Ross on this show a bunch of times I checked out her show with Rekha.
Yeah, I just cancelled Amazon Prime so I could keep my Dropout sub and still not be spending extra money.
The fandom for Critical Role makes me feel the same way sometimes. Like the people and show are great, but a portion of the fandom is insane
I think that's just every fandom if you reach a certain amount of people in it. Just the critical mass changes depending on what the fandom is and who the community is originally probably.
Um Actually, Strixhaven, the magic school IN Magic the Gathering is nerdier than all those other magic schools!
i can almost 100% assure you that this was recorded long before strixhaven
Jordan Doll is great. Love watching him on Better Than Heroes and Stream of Blood.
Loved Winston's excitement for the Naruto question
I just realized that the props in the background are full of "um, actually" material
Holy shit you just blew my mind
took me quite a few episodes to realize the joke, myself
It’s pretty amazing, right? My favorites are the Marty McFly BttF2 shoes and the Poke “balls”
@@dozer11 what got me was the Wayland Yutani ammo box
@@spiranomad I wonder what it says… Mayland Autani? Lol
um actually calling a hobnob a candy is sacrilege
18:52
UM ACTUALLY Krypton is mispelled.
Um Actually, Jordan should have one because you forgot to update his scoreboard after he correctly answered the Monsters University Question at 15:33
Um Actually 1939 was a banner year for movies. in addition to _Gone with the Wind_ there was _The Wizard of Oz,_ _Mr.
I always laugh at the fact that Trapp stretches the intro so someone interrupts him, but noone does
It it me or every single episode Joan is on, she just SMASHES and you don’t ever anticipate it!!!! She seriously knows her shit and the depth of some of her answers is so dope to see! Go Joan!!! You’re a FUCKin rock star!
I love Joan
Um actually Balamb Garden is NOT a magic school. They train SeeDs (child soldiers) to kill sorceresses. It's a military academy.
I was gonna be real mad if Monkey from Dexter's lab wasn't one of the monkeys.
You have escaped my wrath this day.
Similarly, I was thinking "Monkeys, huh? If there's a single gorilla here, I'm gonna lose it!" Luckily, it actually was just monkeys, so my wrath has been mollified as well.
It's explained in the comic The Phantom Limb : C-3PO got stranded on a planet along with a few other droids. Eventually his arm got ripped off by a swamp creature.
Umm, actually, Supergirl originally hailed from Argo City, a surviving fragment of Krypton, not Krypton itself, so "Supergirl was never on Krypton" is true for "A" Supergirl. And we don't speak of the others :P
Good episode. Never read earthsea, but for some reason I immediately called it the the answer would be about the skin colour. They would not have included that if it wasnt
Buddy deserved the point for puffins, Newfoundlander here, was so sad to here pelicans and penguins haha
it would be great if the episode descriptions included the date they were from for contextual reference =)
Um actually you can get a context for the date during the corrections section because the tweets/messages are dated
Um actually, Mike the fact checker says the Rescuers Down Under villain was Jack McLeach, but his name was Percival C. McLeach.
Umm actually, Balamb Gardens should be Balamb Garden. Gardens are multiple locations found around the Final Fantasy 8 world. Balamb, is just one of these.
Make it a lightning round too so you have to answer the questions in under a minute
This is a MBMBAM bit now lol
Dude, thanks for letting me know that there was a reboot of Rocko’s Modern Life on Netflix! That was my favorite show growing up!
They need an episode where they correct movie conversions. Like, they say a fact of something that happened in the live action ATLA movie, and then the contestants have to correct it. You can do book to movie conversions, like eragon, or show to movie like ATLA, or even comic to movie conversions like superhero comics to movies.
"The lead characters name is Ong, spelled with an A."
"Um actually, it's pronounced Aang."
I'm not sure, but I think Balamb Garden is more of a Mercenary/Military school than a Magic school.
I'm there with the people who use this show to update my Nerd Homework and Reading Lists. Because of this, I'm halfway through Name of the Wind and I can comfortably say that it's already one of my favorite books of all time. So thanks, Um, Actually, for the recommendations!
Um actually, Hobnob is not a British candy. It's a British cookie, also known as a biscuit.
Um actually, it's JUST a biscuit. Biscuits and Cookies are separate in Britain.
17:20
Sitting here, eating spaghetti, suddenly starts talking about Bidets and poop.
Thanks.
Um actually, in Michigan you don't go into a DMV you go into the Secretary of State for getting a license
Um, actually, Tennesse does not have a Department of Motor Vehicles. It specifically has a Department of Transportation that also handles what would be DMV procedures in most states.
Um Actually, They shot those scenes with the porgs in Ireland, not Iceland.
ive never benn jump scared by a bidet ad before thanks
