You can be an honorary British person! ...If you can't already tell from the comments, that may not be something you'd want right now. But hey, at least you don't have to live here!
I know you always preface these videos by saying it's mostly for British people, but as a Canadian who has never stepped foot in the U.K, this Wetherspoons series is one of my favourite things on this channel! It's all very interesting to me!
@@GeoKyle Wetherspoons are basically the pub equivalent of McDonalds here, with burgers to boot. You'll struggle to go to any town/city here without passing by one.
Imagine having to kill a few hours in Bradford and you see on the map this green park with a lake and walk paths. Then arriving to that concrete desert.
I played along with this one and found York from that sign advertising the Viking play ... so when Tom saw that sign I thought it was a done deal! Of course, rather than spotting the word *York* he instead used his knowledge of British viking history to zoom into the correct location anyway 😂 Also, on the Welsh one, the street address was written in the window of one of the houses!
the Bradford mirror pool drains on a night to stop people rolling out of spoons and drowning (not kidding)! Loved this Tom was really shocked to see Bradford, my home town, when playing along!
Also from Bradford and can confirm they drain it every night to stop drunks drowning in it. Tbf the previous water feature, a drunk did fall in and drown it one winter, some kids found him floating under the ice
As someone who is (unfortunately) from Bradford, the last round took me all of about 10 seconds - felt good to be faster than Tom for once! I can also confirm that the mirror pool isn't really a pool, it's more like an underwhelming water feature with a very shallow layer of water and a few jet fountains. And it's usually turned off so you can just walk through the 'pool' (probably the case when the imagery was taken)
I'm not even from Bradford and never been but I got it in about 10 seconds too but got a score of 4997 on it, I was soo surprised when I got it because I gave up in the end trying to get a good score 😂
I don't know why people feel the need to bash it. It's a huge improvement on what was there before and it's really nice for the kids to splash around in during summer.
As a non-UK viewer I can't believe I can actually finally relate to one of the locations. As soon as you panned to the gate in the York guess, this feeling of "I've been here" overwhelmed me and I knew!
Same here! Was coming to York every month or so for a couple of days for some time. Been to Punch Bowl several times without even knowing what the Wetherspoon is!
I'm an American and I literally parked my rental car in the long skinny lot behind that Wetherspoons which you can see when he marks the map. Recognized it immediately.
@The Office Clips A lot of the old STD codes were based on letters, 9 covered W,X,Y and possibly Z. I grew up in Worcester which had the code 0905 (0WO5), now 01905. Wolverhampton was 0902 (0WO2), it seems that York was 0YO4

Yeah, that was a bit of a frustrating round to watch! The city gate gave it away straight away for me, so I was wondering if Tom was just dragging it out for effect and then the Yorvik Centre banner just cemented it. I guess it's why the series is so much fun to watch when there's some you know but Tom doesn't!!
Yeah I learned that from Assassin's Creed: Valhalla. In fact, since that Wetherspoons is on the river near the bridge, I've probably visited that exact location lol

I'm American and I'm terrible at this map but I really like playing along with this series for some reason. I guess there's usually enough clues to keep me feeling like like I'm in the game but at the same time very challenging. Very proud of myself for knowing to pick somewhere Vikingy in the first round. I would've got no. 1 really quickly because I recognised where the gatehouse was from its style of architecture, & there are only 3 gates in that city so it wouldn't have taken long to scour. I would've also done well on 3 because I know whereabouts in London the 125 runs (it's an east-west bus route that runs past Middlesex University). Wilton is a patisserie chain originally from Cyprus. They have only 1 shop in the UK. I bet you the two Wetherspoons in 4 are actually the same pub inside, or at least have the same kitchen. I immediately recognised the last one as Centenary Square. The pool there is not a pond, but a reflecting pool. When switched on, it has a thin layer of water on top of it which reflects nearby buildings. In this view, it's switched off.

Canadian/American here, amateur geoguessr as well. Here's how I did. First three are strange because I was quite high from a legally acquired THC edible so forgive me. 1. The Punch Bowl These first ones I did quite quickly, and luckily I saw the "Jorvik" poster which I knew to be the viking word for York, so I guessed York from way out, 4,996 points in 7 seconds. If I had taken a couple more, I would have realized my marker was within meters of the actual Wetherspoons. Ah well. 2. The George Hotel I saw "Lloyd" as a name, which I know to be Welsh because of the double L, so I guessed Cardiff. Was kicking myself when you saw Powys, which I know Cardiff isn't in. Was pleased with my intuition there, but it was a wild guess. 3,111 points. 3. The New Crown This one was embarrassing. The edible really kicked in and I had no idea where I was. Saw Halifax which is a place in Canada, so I guessed Scotland in a town called Banff, which is also a place in Canada. Sherlock himself would be proud of that deduction. 12 points. 4. The Widow Frost Returning to this the day after, sober, I felt confident. I immediately saw "The Cheeky Monkey" and "Sally Twinkle", two profoundly English sounding stores, as well as "andwhynot", which did in fact say "Mansfield's leading live music venue" on it. Had heard of the place but wasn't sure, zoomed in around Sheffield and found it immediately. 5,000 points. 5. The Turls Green Wish I could say I was high for this one. Saw the clock tower and thought, "surely I should know this place," and therefore went straight into the middle of London. Big Ben? Nope. Tower of London? Maybe, there was a starbucks there and a little courtyard perhaps. I didn't want to trust the photosphere's compass so I felt alright about it. Couldn't see the Wetherspoons, but I thought maybe the map maker screwed up somehow. Too many assumptions and excuses, but there was no shot of me finding that building anywhere else. 435 pitiful points. Grand total of 13,554. Awful score tbh, I'm still super green on the UK and I need practice, but it could have been worse.
I noticed and loved the calibrated compass at the top of the screen and thought Tom had added it in! Good to know there are helpful upgrades showing up.
We have had the delight of being in Wales four times over the years and on one of our Where, When Wales tours we stopped in Brecon for lunch. We were given a choice of where to eat and we chose George’s Hotel so when I saw it come up on the screen I was trying to tell you where it was. Thanks for the entertainment. Loved all of the UK and Ireland and will be back once the Covid pisses off!👍🏻🇨🇦
Played along before watching, haven't watched yet so I'll be interested to see how you find things. Perfect score with some painful searching. 1) Don't know why, had a feeling this was York from the off, before confirming after spotting the green bus. Finding the pub then was easy enough. 2) Powys on the bin, I knew roughly the region of wales so checked Brecon first and bingo. 3) This one sucked, I knew it was London. I knew the road thanks to Halifax. Being able to see that buss top would of been lovely. Spent some time scouring London till I found the road. If I missed an obvious clue then pain. 4) Just a few moves would of been nice to make out that sign, knew we were north of Derby and Nottingham and we were still in Nottinghamshire. Went over Mansfield several times. Really had to zoom in to spot that one. 5) Oh its blurry as anything but that city hall is a decent giveaway if you've been Bradford.
Hey there I'm from Germany and I've never heard of the evil Wetherspoon conglomerate until your videos. That however does not prevent me from enjoying the heck out of your content. Keep up the good work!
Though being from Germany I love this Wetherspoons series! It's interesting to listen to your thoughts and experiences =) Thank you for this fun round! I'm so looking forward to the next mission across Wales :)
Edit: I'm also baffled at how finding the location is still such a big moment too. Its like watching your football team score. Get in my son! Still baffles me that locating Wetherspoons can make for such an interesting and enjoyable video. I've never enjoyed anything relating to a Wetherspoons previously!
If you watch his old videos, it's really incredible to see how good, confident and professional on all levels Tom got. You sir, came a long way and now you're getting the attention you always deserved. I'm stoked to see every new video :)
I love this series, and it has become a life goal of mine to buy cheap alcohol from one of these establishments next time I am in England. I look forward to buy 4 units for the price I would get 1 in Norway.
Funny to see you stumped by bradford. The "pool" is a thing, although it has spent some time out of order lately, its surprisingly popular and in the middle is the tallest or second tallest fountain in the uk. The photo was also relatively new, the white tents under the town hall building are covid testing sites. Love the vids mate and can't wait for mission across Wales 3
I commented on one of your straight line missions a while back but hearing you mention upcoming missions, I'm re-commenting 😂 I know you are a fan of The Slow Mo Guys and they're a fan of you - you should ask Dan on a mission! He lives in Britain and is ex-army, it would be such a treat of a collab. Also - Australian viewer here and I love all of your content.
😂 I got excited seeing Bradford! It is a pool, just not on the photo you were looking at, sometimes they turn the water off, and it looked fairly recent, I think that was a covid test site in front of the town hall
I am From Germany and really enjoy watching your videos! It would be great to see you playing something like an only Germany map, but StreetView coverage here is worse than in the smallest village in Kenya
As a Canadian I like watching your videos and visiting all the places. My city actually came up in a video one time. Was weird seeing it and knowing I’ve been in that exact spot.
I literally walked past the Punchbowl on Sunday, that’s absolutely crazy, sadly never been inside tho😔Also fun fact, Jorvik is actually the Viking name for York
Damnnnnn just dropped on the first one and instantly recognised the little Italian place... first time playing along, you've got me hooked already mate. Great vids man keep it up, also well done on the most recent Wales mission, looking forward to more. Edit: Round 2, not so lucky
This series is fun even for a Norwegian like me. I got the York one but was super bummed that i did't get it by reading the Viking poster, since i know that the name "York" comes from the viking "Jorvik" which was on the poster. That would have been a proper detective round! Other than that i found som welsh writing on the 2'nd round, and did pretty shit on the rest because i couldn't find Mansfield on the map. Good fun though. Love the vids.
My favourite part of all these videos is the judgement of the British population and the detective work that goes into environmental storytelling. Absolutely hilarious
At The Punch Bowl once a waitress gave me a glass full of gin and an extra bottle of tonic because she didn't know how to make G&Ts... all for £4. Good times.
I'm from the US and I like these maps. Never been to the UK but watching your videos and a lot of Premier League 'football' has made me want to visit. I saw the York bus in round 1, a Southgate sign in round 3, and the Mansfield Palace sign in round 4. I did terribly in the other 2 rounds.
Danish aspiring Geography wizard here. I did okay, I got a perfect score in York (perhaps because of my Viking heritage). I also got 5000 in London. Had no clue in Brecon, Mansfield and Bradford though.
Congrats on the perfect score, Tom! I'm not from Britain (across the pond in the US), but I really enjoy these and learning more about the culture over there. Keep these vids coming, and I can't wait to see the new content you've been teasing!
I got married on the 30th September. So, what, 2 months ago? And I spent the whole morning, maybe 6 hours, sat in that very punch bowl (York) absolutely bricking myself!
I'm from Texas. I love the Wetherspoons vids because I can vicariously travel to UK for a virtual pint or 5 with you. Now that UK is opening up I'll be able to get a real pint there soon. Cheers!
Watching from the USA and Wetherspoons are so much fun. I was on a streak until the last one. How I solved it: 1. Saw York on the Viking sign 2. Saw some Welsh on a sign in the window of the Wetherspoon, and just started going through all the towns I could. 3. Saw the London bus, and very similar to you guessed north on my search and so started in Tottenham, since I recognize it from the football team. 4. the Andwhynot sign said best in Mansfield. 5. I gave up before trying your method. Also great to hear you are doing another attempt at crossing Wales.
Hello Tom, I'm from Slovenia and for some reason i enjoy this serious even though i don't know any of these places, i have tried playing along but wasn't lucky in doing so, only go 3 perfect scores. Keep it up:)

Returning to this the day after, sober, I felt confident.
5. The Turls Green
Wish I could say I was high for this one.
Greeting from Sweden Tom! I love the hard work you putting in every week mate. All the best!
Tom: "Dessert places, why are they popping up so much?"
Money laundering, Tom, money laundering.
Yep. Just like all the barbers too.
and mattress shops xD
@@junebug3719 And 'American Candy' shops, and vape shops
We have had the delight of being in Wales four times over the years and on one of our Where, When Wales tours we stopped in Brecon for lunch. We were given a choice of where to eat and we chose George’s Hotel so when I saw it come up on the screen I was trying to tell you where it was.
Thanks for the entertainment. Loved all of the UK and Ireland and will be back once the Covid pisses off!👍🏻🇨🇦
Mansfield, Nottinghamshire!
Until recently we had 3 Spoons close together.
I'm in hucknall but used to drink in Mansfield hahaha, finally got one faster than Tom!
That Leeds badge messed me up big time 😂
Played along before watching, haven't watched yet so I'll be interested to see how you find things.
Im waiting for the day when a spoons I've been to pops up, please don't stop the series
Love this series it’s so fun hearing your banter and jokes
I'm from the US and have been to the UK once, proud to have known that was York because I went to the Jorvik Viking museum thing!
Hey there I'm from Germany and I've never heard of the evil Wetherspoon conglomerate until your videos.
That however does not prevent me from enjoying the heck out of your content. Keep up the good work!
Though being from Germany I love this Wetherspoons series!
It's interesting to listen to your thoughts and experiences =)
Thank you for this fun round!
I'm so looking forward to the next mission across Wales :)
Ja mann. Aber eine Frage dein Kommentar ist bei mir in schwarzer Schrift. Wie machst du das?
@@muffinpieceyt bei mir nicht
I'm not British nor American, I'm just a supporter from the Netherlands. Keep up the funny and educational videos! 👍👍
"Professional"
22:17 Of course, this is a very professional reaction to reading the words 'Adult Learning Centre'. Naturally.
Also - Australian viewer here and I love all of your content.
how do you know the slowmo guys are fans? have they talked about him?
These videos are cheering me up in a difficult time, thanks a lot
😂 I got excited seeing Bradford! It is a pool, just not on the photo you were looking at, sometimes they turn the water off, and it looked fairly recent, I think that was a covid test site in front of the town hall
Jorvik is what York was called during the Viking times in England, it was also one of their main strongholds after they invaded it.
05:01 "Take your r*ping and pillaging elsewhere!" Glass houses, Englishman. Glass houses.
I’m from arizona and i love watching your vids man. Brings me joy every single day.
If Assassins Creed Valhalla has taught me anything, it's that Jorvik means York
All the characters from round 3 and your comments on them had me dying of laughter. God I love this channel. Can’t wait for the next mission!
I walked past on Saturday on my way for a pint in Gibson's 😂
Damnnnnn just dropped on the first one and instantly recognised the little Italian place... first time playing along, you've got me hooked already mate.
Great vids man keep it up, also well done on the most recent Wales mission, looking forward to more.
Edit: Round 2, not so lucky
So hyped for the upcoming mission
This series is fun even for a Norwegian like me. I got the York one but was super bummed that i did't get it by reading the Viking poster, since i know that the name "York" comes from the viking "Jorvik" which was on the poster. That would have been a proper detective round! Other than that i found som welsh writing on the 2'nd round, and did pretty shit on the rest because i couldn't find Mansfield on the map. Good fun though. Love the vids.
I love the Wetherspoons vids, a typically British map!
My favourite part of all these videos is the judgement of the British population and the detective work that goes into environmental storytelling. Absolutely hilarious
At The Punch Bowl once a waitress gave me a glass full of gin and an extra bottle of tonic because she didn't know how to make G&Ts... all for £4. Good times.
Damn. I bet you were rolling about after that?!
I'm in Charleston, SC. Never played but have discovered your videos and enjoy watching you.
Thomas, that was a Stella… Moretti hasn’t made it to spoons yet 😢
Just in bottles
I'm German and I enjoy watching these a lot.
Loving seeing non-brits enjoy this series! You all need to come here and experience a spoons for yourselves
Had no clue in Brecon, Mansfield and Bradford though.
this was really good fun to play with the fam!! we love the playalongs! full marks obvs keep up the geo vids!!
Wales? Damn I was hoping for a straight line mission across Texas 😂 That would only take a few months and a couple hundred angry farmers
I am from Luxembourg and i love watching vour videos! Keep it up!
I'm from Texas. I love the Wetherspoons vids because I can vicariously travel to UK for a virtual pint or 5 with you. Now that UK is opening up I'll be able to get a real pint there soon. Cheers!
Made me laugh so much Tom! Great video as always, one of my fave videos this series. Keep them coming
When you're from San Marino and you come here to watch Tom's video as a way of relief from that crushing 10-0 defeat. 😬💪
Tim the Time Traveller has a whole video on the San Marino soccer team and its illustrious history.
I knew my day wouldn't be a total waste of time....Tom to the rescue again!!
Hello Tom, I'm from Slovenia and for some reason i enjoy this serious even though i don't know any of these places, i have tried playing along but wasn't lucky in doing so, only go 3 perfect scores. Keep it up:)
Watch Mapmen if you want some insight on the vikings’ roam around in the GB
"more money spent on drinks than trouserware" - love it
Imagine seeing an "Adult Learning Centre" and then mocking it like you did mate. That's pretty shit form.
05:04
Good man for correcting yourself.
I used to live in York, and I'm scottish, so it was hell.
I'm american but I've been to london twice and leeds once. I got the london round pretty close and thought the last round looked vaguely like it was outside of tate modern so I guessed there which was wildy wrong lmao. All the others were far off. 11k points total.
The London one is crazily right where I live, out of all places they put it round the corner from my house
I'm from North Sentinel and I enjoy your content.
