That Bern guess was pure madness
Abso. frigging. lutely.
I'm from switzerand and I knew it was somewhere here but too make a perfect guess like that is insane o.O

Thank you thank you for bringing the old series back. These are what I subbed you for and the ones that I enjoy the most. I like the newer series but An Urban/Diverse World playalongs will always be my favorite.
Agreed
Yes! I don't have a premium account so GeoWizard’s playalongs are my only chance to play GeoGuessr 😂
Hear hear!
"I imagine the Raiders are pretty big over there" Oh boy when he'll learn that they moved out to Vegas...
I don't know how updated geoguessr's street maps are, assuming it's using Google maps, but Gabby's casino is permanently closed, which could explain why it's not on there at all.
I would imagine their maps update straight from Google very quickly. Like maybe they update every day or so
Given the George Floyd mural in the later round, I'd say they can be very recent
@@andyrooiam Can be, but sometimes it takes years for the Google car to reach a certain location a second time around. The Ukraine round was advertising something from 2015 for example.
You gotta knock three times and ask to see "Bruce" then they open.
Yes, they can be very recent or 10+ years old. All footage from Germany for example is from around 2008-2010, which makes it pretty easy to guess a lot of the time, since all the cars you see in German rounds tend to look quite old.

in countries like Russian Ukraine Belorussia and etc the “look” doesn’t work like in other countries if you think that city looks more like Europe than it’s probably just in the center of the capital
other small cities even if they’re near to other countries rather will probably look dirtier and poor except maybe for Kaliningrad because it was build by Germany
@Christopher Wrigley And they were part of austro hungary until 1918, which makes at least Lviv look very central european.
@@AlfaGiuliaQV Lviv doesn't look very central European due to it being in Austro-Hungary, it looks like that because it was a part of multiple European nations from the beginning and AH was just a short episode

In order to educate this fine Brit, the "I'm trying to heal" art is in reference to the police killing of George Floyd. A large portion of the United States has become exhausted, traumatized, and deeply saddened by George Floyd's killing, as well as all of the other killings like it. George Floyd's name is also on the same building. The killing happened in Minneapolis so my first hunch was to pick MN. Well done getting Oakland.
French cars have blue stripes on both sides of the license plate too.
Tom: This is Italy
Me having seen the bin straight away: Ha you fool!
Me after he sees the bin: Aww
But how on earth did he not see Rue Barrier on the building to the right? I wasn't sure if it was Barrier/Marrier/Harrier however at first.
i‘m german and been to oakland only one time for a day and still instantly recognized it. crazy how unique places are
Totally got the PE reference. It was either in the lost and found PE kit box or a hand me down which got a bit too much of the Daz treatment.
I'm glad you said this is your favorite way to play, these are easily some of my favorite videos of yours to watch
That Kiev one. I was there a year ago exactly that intersection where there was a movie being filming
Great video as ever. :) Just fyi, as a french person, I can reliably tell you this: we also have blue on each side of our registration plates, since 2009 when they changed the system again (that's when they also stopped being yellow). Left blue part is the usual country letter 'F', and right one is for for département (county) code.
Everytime Tom gets USA he ends up saying "oh, that's a bigger place than I thought"
it's because US cities/towns are a complete sprawl from a European perspective
@@P1ranh4 Yes it's crazy how you could be in a large city but then leave downtown and it feels like a little town or a village .
@@P1ranh4 yup. Most cities here are sprawls bc we have all this space so why not? Haha

Always nice to see your city popup in a round! Just a tip regarding EU plates with blue on both sides. It is not always Italy. French ones also do this but not everywhere. On the right side it is basically the departement/county. Many of them are actually using blue. So in Rhône, where Lyon is for instance, pretty much all cars have blue on both sides.
Incredible Bern round, well done!
That Bern one was massively impressive!!!
I throw these on in the background because I find them soothing, anyway, I grew up in Billings and heard him say Gabby’s Casino and I was like “hold up” then pulled up the video. I immediately knew exactly where he was. Then he pulled it around and I saw the back of the Albertson’s and then he whipped it north and saw the rims. Easy one… assuming you grew up there. Not often Montana gets thrown into Geoguessr. Nice to see. Wyoming really wasn’t an awful guess though all things considered. Well done.
In the USA there are 30 or more states where casinos are illegal. Should you come across another concrete oozing small town casino that info might help!
Billings has a population of 110k, but you wouldn't really guess that from this round
Really?! I had no idea there were so many states where casinos are legal. Other than a very few Native American resort type casinos, we don't have them at all in northeast USA, and in all of my travels around the rest of the country I've never seen one outside of Nevada. But then I wasn't looking for them either. And tiny things like that one in the video are obviously easy to miss.
@@slendercraft Yeah, I definitely had no idea that NY had casinos. But I also wasn't thinking about New York when I said Northeast USA. I should have just said New England. Somehow I imagine that New Jersey does have casinos, though I could just be thinking of the mobster type movies with illegal gambling. :-)
@@thewiseturtle There's a thing about it in Montana. You know you're in Montana because even the smallest towns have a casino somewhere. You'll pass through a 4 block town and know you've hit "downtown" because the gas station has a market and casino. Just weird quirks of the state.
It was immediately my dead giveaway for Billings, especially with the plateau the airport is on and the 406 area code on the for sale sign.
For the last round in France Tom, we have new registration plates now that specifie the country with F on the left side, and the region we're from with a number on the right side of the plate. That's why you saw two blue marks on the truck's license plate.
For all you know that casino is one of the nicest places in existence, with a really nice staff and a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere, where everybody is genuinely having innocent fun.
It's permanently closed and from what I saw on the front page of Google it got robbed 4 times in a year.
@@Flaruwu LMFAO

I already watched this video when it first aired, but I came back here to say that that Bern round is still one of Tom's single greatest achievements on Geoguessr. An unforgettable moment. Absolute Madman.
On your Ukraine round the left flag is actually the Swedish flag, with a "dalahäst" below it. Don't know why it's there though!
It was installed after the 2012 European Football Fhampionship in memmory of the Swedish team and fans (Kyiv was one of the host cities)
that bern guess is the best you've ever made, impeccable reasoning, from the side of driving, to the bridges, realizing that there is no blue on the numberplate, BUT NOT LEAVING EUROPE BECAUSE OF THAT, and thereby concluding switzerland. Just crazy

I can’t wait for Ludwig to play this for how mad he’ll be at Tom for getting perfect scores.
I made the exact same guess as you on the Bern round one block from the actual location. The combination of no blue strip on the plate combined with the meta and low cam made me guess Switzerland. Then, I just went around Bern looking for large-ish north-south bridges and roads that matched the curve on the map.
Never thought I'd see my hometown in a vid, Oakland represent!
i'm from switzerland and that Bern one struck me right away as switzerland. we have lots of japanese cars, especially these smaller ones, and the 30 on the road (for 30km/h zones) is something i've never seen in any other country (might exist, though, i haven't been looking out for it).
Sign says Oakland with number area code 510, which is Oakland CA. The street signs clearly say Franklin and 15th st. That took like 5 seconds.

Blue on both sides of the license plate is in France, Italy, and some in Albania. The car probably didn't travel, it's part of France's license plates too. It's just only the newer cars that have it in France I believe, so you see it a lot in Paris, but also in other cities.

Even being from Bern I wasn’t totally sure, but sure thought it might be there. But your thinking putting all the pieces together combined with your subconscious memory of the area was brilliant 👍💪🤩!
14:46 - 17:33 I was saying It's Kyiv after every guess and option Tom suggested. You don't get these old metropolitan streets in smaller cities + Kyiv must have the most data from Ukraine. Just look to all sides and see urban jungle and old houses for miles in every direction. Clearly this doesn't look like a small city, I am baffled. The only explanation I can think of is that Tom hasn't visited eastern europe much. Btw the "X" is pronounced the same way as J in Jacques and is somewhat frequent.
