Guessing the difference in streaming quality back and forth is due to less speed when going back. Its just easier to get a better stream when the drone is moving a bit slower: less packet loss due to less speed/easier for the signal to find its way back to the controller. Cheers - great test! :-)
Nice video, thanks! I'm not sure what the preoccupation with range is all about though. As long as you can have about 1kilometre of useable range, thats good enough for most circumstances. What are you realistically going to do with a range of 4/5 or 6 kilometres? You certainly can't have visual contact with the drone at any distance over 250 meters in any event. I'm more than happy with the range of my Magic air, it does me just fine.
The reception gets better with height so this is a completely unfair test and worthless in my opinion. 30 meters spark 120 meters air, I would however be interested in seeing this test done again at the same height. Thanks anyway
I use MIMO wifi repeater (TP-Link something) to my parrot bebop. hopefully it will also work for dji wifi drones. my repeater is 2.4 ghz, I wonder if there any budget price 5.8 mimo wifi repeaters. by the way I love your apps, use them ever since no problems. keep up the good work!
It always a guess...I just choose the channel with less noise at the moment (the lower bar in the graph).. at the moment I was recording the channel 4 was not the lower but it was when I looked before recording ... I used the same channel on both drone for a fair comparison. Anyway as said the channel is guess.. cause a free channel at takeoff point can be “busy” 1 - 2 km away ... if flying in congestionated WiFi area (city center ) expect less than half the range done in this video..
Thanks for interesting comparison. since about 1200-1300 mt the video of Air isn't good, so what's real difference if both have a quite similar range of usable, continous video? Of course the upgrade addicted and Sunday recordmen jump quickly to buy the Air, that's a quite similar toy, in concrete, practical, real use. In FCC there's a strong difference in distance and in signal strenght. But who want to fly with a toy so far from sight, most of all in Italy? And the purpose for a 2-4 Km flight, with remarkable height for (often) boring videos?
anyway the fact is the the air is superior to the spark under any aspect (portability included), that said i also flying 90% under 300/500m but with the spark i normally (always except the day i made this video) get disconnect or heavy drops frame...at that distance.. Also i believe than not only me but nobody fly normally so far cause as you said its pointless... its just an empiric method to find out the quality of the connection...
installing a simple FCC mod also Spark connection is stronger and more stable. Have fun with new toy, expecting Mavic Air Pro, Spark Sparkly, Mavic Pro 2 before the end of 2018. If you want to fly with a quite simple ENAC registration, you need an under 300gr. drone (in Italy) and your Air is more than 400, folded or unfolded..... It's an interesting comparison, but the real problem is CE. A ognuno il suo giocattolo.
Michele Vagnetti I'm confused how is the air more portable? That small case fits only the air and a battery. So there's a need for yet another bag to hold the remote the other batteries extra props charger and whatever else you want so to me yeah it's a very good drone but not more portable .
foldable legs doesn't means "more portable". Almost double weight (with 2 batteries) means less portable. The Spark in FCC mode have a connection more stable than Air in CE.
FCC, Federal Communications Commissions, includes rules for telecommunications (numbers of channels, frequencies etc.) in USA, Canada and many more countries. In Europe they are different rules and specs, the authority is named CE. FCC have a stronger and more stable WiFi signal, but in Europe Dji Spark setting is related to CE specs.
Pedro Struk I know my fault... but believe me not change much ... I tested and flyed several times both drone..the point is that the Mavic Air have a stronger connection.
Not a good Test, cause the Altitude of Spark and Mavic Air was not the same. Spark 30m and Air 120m.
Yeah this whole test is bull. 30m vs 120 that’s the first thing I looked for thumbs down!
MICHELE THIS VIDEO IS VERY GOOD. informative, head to head comparison.. love it.
Józsa Márton thanks
Hai proprio gli attributi per poter mandare così lontano un gioiellino del genere senza vedere dove va complimenti

ma la banda del 2.4 non è quella dell'fcc anzichè del ce?
Nice video! Please make this test in the city. Thanks!

why didnt your mavic air switch to 5.8Ghz signal? I think you have a bad unit

is the drone coming back to home automatically when signal is totally lost??
Travels etc yes
Great video mate can't wait to get my air for my rc channel
If I change to fcc, it goes how much more?
¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡ ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ Yes , its drammatically change the quality and range of the connection..
Hopefully will be able to test soon...
Michele Vagnetti thank you....i am korean and i will switch to fcc....
Can you make a video when you just use GPS/Positioning mode, I think you will get better results.
Hi, what software did you use to create the on screen bubble information that was tracking the Spark. thanks
I live in the U.S. can someone explain to me what the CE MOD is? Compared to the FCC MOD? Is one better than the other??? Tks. In advance....Joey.
FCC is better (more strong wifi signal) since you are in US you will be in FCC by default and will have no problem...
Michele Vagnetti thank you...😁
With both drones your could have gone way farther, in sport mode the drone signal sometimes had trouble keeping up with the drone
Interesting ! With the Spark, did you use a OTG cable ?
Jm P no
Thx
I hate to inter up this excellent. Review but are you still even considering your software for us Bebop 2 people?
i released 3 updates in last 30days
Michele Vagnetti I am asking about the android version which may not have been made yet.
Nice video.
What kind of plugins callouts did you use? Thank you
i was trying the free trial of "coremelt" for fcpx

Nice real world test in non FCC Europe! A question: how did you determine that channel 4 was the best channel to use?

hi, very good video! but, wich phone did you used to it? thank you!
an iPhone X
How do you record the iphone screen?
since iOS 11 the screen recording is a function built-in in the iOS
I had no idea! You learn something new every day! Thanks!
Hai un link per il gancio porta spark da appendere all’auto?
Marco Cozzo link in descrizione:)
The spark does really well all things considered, and would have probably performed much better if the altitude matched the air.
you might not know that, but mavic air output is already close to fcc, so you cannot really called it ce mode.
what is FCC?
I’ve already hit close to 8000ft with my spark in 5.8ghz with a pretty open flight path with some trees
Excellent editing- ✅
Good video. Probably you already know but if you set it up to auto I´ve seen people flying longer and with less interference.
Ciao Michele di dove sei ? Ottimo test
Alessandro Morolla Ciao, grazie! sono di San Marino
Mine goes to about 600m and then loses signal. clear and open field I dont know what to do...
tmzko range in EU is 500 meters
ye if i knew that when i bought it instead of the advertised 2km from FCC, i certainly wouldnt have bought the sparkie
tmzko Wait.. do you have The mavic air or wut?
Smartphone utilizzato?
Mr87toeight iPhone X
Thumbs ⬆!! Well done video.
N'th DEGREE AERIAL PERSPECTIVES thanks man
fly with my Drone DJI Spark using Litchi in Wifi mode 3,250 km two days ago at 290 meters high, I did not use OTG cable on this flight.
i didnt know they fly that far in km

where did u fly?
Bastifly San Marino
Kinda odd that u flew the spark at a lower altitude than the air 🤔

Michele Vagnetti io sto a Dubai. Chissà qua come si setterà. Ti farò sapere.
thanks a lot for this video....

Teste propre - merci
Enjoyed that
Tnx
Love the WOW
Seem to be a lot of second hand sparks for sale. Wonder why because their not very old.
because mavic air came out and people that had the spark for a while are looking for something new and better?
1181 for spark wow I get about 500 before it disconnects
NIce! but once it starts to get laggy (at 1000 M) it is useless beyond that point.
The video onboard won't be laggy, only the onscreen video.
You're right, but how can you control what you want to film if your reception is laggy?
WiFi will make it choke in a city or town. It is also near 90 decibels. LOUD!
Nice
my mavic air is laggy at 100m -________-
Spark H:31m and Mavic Air 100m
Pedro Struk I know my fault... but believe me not change much ... I tested and flyed several times both drone..the point is that the Mavic Air have a stronger connection.
Chinuiala....
