Your instruction is FANTASTIC! I’ve learned so much from you it’s amazing. Easing sleeves is an anxiety ridden experience and I can’t wait to try this out. Your humor, tone, and demeanor is infectious and even adds to the fun of sewing.
Joy, I have learned so much from your "techniques that work!" Today, the fact that the notches don't always match sure made my day! I find this all the time, no matter how careful I cut out the fabric. I thought it was me causing the notches not to line up. Thank you dear heart for stating that fact. Sure made my day! Hugs
Hey Joy, Thanks for sharing another way of putting in set in sleeve. I have been sewing 54 years ( yikes) and have never come across this method from Louise Cutting.
I thank you sooooo much for sharing this technique : I tried it on a mens lined jacket and it really works. I can't even begin to tell you how much I disliked doing sleeves for fear of the ease not laying right but this actually works. THANK YOU! !!!!XOXOX
Wow! I have seen Louise do that on a sleeve but had forgotten it. Thanks Joy! I have pretty much taught myself to sew by watching Sandra B, Linda Lee, Louise Cutting, Nancy Zieman, Peggy Sagers, and "some others!" So I enjoy your comments about "more than one way to do a thing!"
Hi Joy YOU are a life safer.. I have not done gathering in years and I was struggling with the needle and threat.. I looked us an easier way to do the sleeves and look you were found... I love, love, love this thank you so much...
Hi Joy, You're a Nut, you make the tutorials fun to watch plus you always give really good tips and hints. Thanks a million for sharing this technique. I was sitting at my computer with my sleeve and garment in hand, I couldn't believe how easy this method is and how perfectly it worked. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. I'll be watching all the rest of your videos from here on out.
I can't wait to try this technique! I don't have many sleeves I've put in with gathering stitches, and still had fight not get any puckers. I loved that you mentioned Sandra Betzina, her shows were the best!
Brilliant, thanks Joy. I used to hold pins in my mouth till I read about someone swallowing a pin that ended up in their lung. They had to have an operation to remove. No pins in mouths 👄 pretty please 🙏
Hi, Joy! I just found your channel, and I am loving your tips! You are so fun and a great teacher. Love this tip for a set in sleeve to ease. .....and hope your ear heals fast!
hi i like your show, but on one of your shows you said to sow the rest seam first then the shoulder, wont that throw your length off to your rest line, i am just sating,i am a man single man doing things on my own thanks keep up the good work
Can't thank you enough! This works really well. I combined the easing method (from your earlier video) with this one, and my sleeve turned out perfect. Not one pucker! I was at my wits end until I discovered your videos. So grateful.
At 10:28 great tip for taking the ease out of the sleeve. Great tips before that too about making the shoulder seam as invisible as possible (press it towards front) etc.
that said, I only had success doing it the other way around, wrapping the 2 layers around my finger but with the garment layer right on my finger first and sleeve layer on top. It makes sense to me that the sleeve (which has the extra fabric) has to travel further around the curve. Either way it's a brilliant, instinctive way to replicate the curve of the shoulder and so much easier! Thank you!
You're hilarious!! (No one would have noted that band-aid!). Love the sleeve technique, but would that work for cotton as well or only knits? Also, you're too close to camera--step back a little ☺️
Don't put a pin in your lips , teeth , mouth ! Please Joy , you are busy talking , sewing and I am so afraid you will suck that pin into your body , lungs or whatever ! Don't tell me you've done that and never sucked it into your lungs before ! I know that is true and you may never have a problem . I worry . I'm older than you , I'm almost 78 ! Please listen to me , take care of yourself !
I LOVE THIS LADY!!! Just found her tonight...but we are now best friends! 😍

Thanks so much for this! I anticipate a lot less frustration and seam ripping the next time I set in a sleeve.
Brilliant, thanks Joy. I used to hold pins in my mouth till I read about someone swallowing a pin that ended up in their lung. They had to have an operation to remove. No pins in mouths 👄 pretty please 🙏
good information, hadn't seen this before
That is the best idea for easing. You are so cute Lady! ty
Hi, Joy! I just found your channel, and I am loving your tips! You are so fun and a great teacher. Love this tip for a set in sleeve to ease. .....and hope your ear heals fast!
The 2 notches are at the back because more ease is needed for arm movement. Will have to try doing sleeves this way in future. Thank you Joy.
Ok Joy are you always this bubbly ? What a pleasure to watch.
I’m a beginner. I’ll practice this method
LOL. No, I am NOT always that bubbly. I try to not make videos when I'm blue though.
You’re hilarious but I learn so many tips lol thank you enjoyed very much 😊

Sorry Joy. I just saw the video where you did it. Thanks
Great fit Joy.
very cool Joy
what pattern is the blue tee shirt you are wearing. very nice.
I bought that at Belk. It ties in the front at the hem.

It actually works either way for me. Good thing, because I'm not sure which part goes on top. LOL
Great idea .Thanks for sharing .
does that work with other fabrics or just stretch fabric?
I have used it with WOVENS and KNITS.
Man, you're funny! loved the tips
💖Thanks!
When I draft my first sleeve I will try this method. Great tutorial! 🙂
Thank you Joy!
JUST FABULOUS.

great tip! 😊
You are supposed to stay stitch the garment before you put the sleeve in...
