This is a question about water baptism. Why did you only mention it in passing at the last 5 seconds?

Definition: A body is many members governed by a single spirit. 1 Cor 12:13 is saying that because you have the Spirit you are part of the body. It is NOT saying the Spirit puts you into the body - because if you have the Spirit you already are part of the body. That would be creating a new doctrine not corroborated by any other passage in the NT.

1 Peter 3: 21 - "And this water symbolizes the baptism that now saves you- not the removal of dirt from the body, but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. It saves you through the resurrection of Jesus Christ." Your sins are not washed until you are baptized, which is not a work, but your FAITH in ACTION. Christ ask of you to do things, not just believe. Works do not save, but Faith without Works are Dead.

Baptism of fire refers to the winowing fan which separates the wheat from the chaff on the threshing floor. He will gather the wheat and the chaff will be burned up. This is not some kind of reference to a superior form of baptism. Its pointing to the innevitable consequence of the Lord's coming which is judgement by fire. Matthew 3:11 states that Jesus will baptize with the Holy spirit AND with fire. Those not born again by water and the spirit will be burned up.

I’ve been studying this to death. The way I see it, and I’m open to being wrong, is that baptism is an act of obedience but not the *point* of salvation. Water has very deep symbolic meanings and best explains what Christ does for us in light of his death and resurrection. I believe it all starts in our humble heart condition where we stand with God. If someone dies in a freak accident on their way to being baptized, it seems true to God’s character to allow that person salvation. If someone refused to get baptized, it would make me question where their heart is, though I cannot judge like God does.

How can I get converted if God alone chooses who will receive it? I cannot choose Christ, but Christ has to choose me in that context, am I right? If I am unregenerate by my very nature, and my will itself is corrupted by sin, I cannot by my own will choose Christ. This indeed makes me wonder if I have true faith, because I have not yet been born again or converted (if they are the same thing)

Pray Unceasingly No one should ever be assured that they are regenerated or born again until they are converted. Repent of your sins and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved. And when you are saved, the Holy Spirit will then come to live in you, Christ will live in you. In your heart. You will know Him, not just intellectually but personally, And that is a sure sign that you are chosen in Christ from before the foundation of the world, that Christ reconciled you to the Father by His death for your sins and resurrection from the dead, and the Spirit coming into your soul means God has applied Christ’s saving work to your soul forgiving you of all of your sins and sealing as a child of God forever.
