I went through a terrible 5 years of alcohol addiction. I lost my job, my girlfriend, and myself. When I finally decided to quit, I went through hallucinations and was put in a coma for a week. Worst drug I've ever encountered. I almost killed myself many times on it. If your bloodline has addiction problems, stay away.
This is what separates Maddie from other dancers - She LIVES the dance. She feels it, she breathes it and she makes the audience feel something. It doesn't feel like a rehearsed choreography, it feels so natural, raw and real. It's not always about having the perfect technique, you need to be a dancer by soul too. Sometimes the imperfect makes it perfect.
This video makes me cry!! To me, I see an adult suffering strongly with an addiction and her inner child comes out to rescue her but she can break free and she's begging to but no matter how hard she tries she can't give up her addiction and is so scared of losing everything. Sia is a beautiful artist, singer and protrayor of dance and pain!!
That’s one side of the song, but there’s a positive side of the coin that balances it out. Forget you! Forget the record label people at the after show! I’m going to swing from a chandelier! Tomorrow doesn’t exist! Party girls don’t get hurt! Let’s ride the bipolar ups til we crash, like tomorrow doesn’t exist
Ryan Heffington is a big part of the success too. The team Sia put together created some amazing movements. Like the finger pointing gesture at the very end, I suddenly sobbed. Maddie Ziegler is of course a brilliant dancer but Kristen Wiig being more clumsy also fits perfectly with the theme of the adult losing the effortless joy she knew as a kid; for a second she gets it back! And then viciously hisses it away. It’s so good. In hindsight, I think this is high art.
That’s why I prefer Love performances over playbacks. This performance, the song, the message is all raw. Awesome performance by Asia, Maddie and Kristen.

I cry every single time I hear this song. I was an alcoholic. For 2 years. My daughter was 3 and 4. She looks identical to me. I was a "functional alcholic." I got very sick. I almost died. I was rushed to ER..basically my nurse said, your little girl needs you. I said detox me. I have been sober 7 years and now have 2 more kids. I will never forgive myself for becoming an alcholic when my daughter needed her momma. This song and performance reminds me what I went through and how much I've changed and grown.
That can’t be Kristen Wieg. No on can be that talented. Comedian, actress, impressionist, & now dancer. Is there anything she can’t do. And, of course, there’s Sia & Maddie
I’ve always loved Kristen since SNL and this just shows me how much talent she has, she goes perfectly with Maddie and Sia. Three women with so much talent and emotion. Love them❤️
This is the performance for me that represented the meaning of the song most. The one that helped me really get what it was about. Moreso even that the original video. The emotion Kristin puts into this is jaw dropping and it's heartbreaking at the end when she snarls at her child-self and sinks back into her addiction. I just watched it again for the first time in over a year and I have tears falling.
Yes, I agree. The video struck me as being about an adult, but we are reminded that we were all once precious children. This version makes the inner child vs adult reality theme more explicit. Then what sends it over the top is Maddie looping back to Sia and admonishing her, the gesture saying “you did this, you ruined us.” Crushing emotional impact!

I just watched this video on mute at my desk at work after being reminded of it in passing conversation. It is incredible what the imagery depicts with the representation of the inner child conflicting with the current mental state of the main lead. Anyone who has struggled with addiction, depression or has just been mentally lost can painfully relate to the abandoned, desperate inner child that wants so desperately to console us, seeming almost wiser than the person we have become. It is truly amazing the assault we mentally - and sometimes physically - inflict on ourselves from past unhealed traumas. Kristen Wiig absolutely crushed it! That was amazing!
So lovely and great and raw and sad. So many of us use alcohol to dull our true feelings, overcome our inhibitions, fit in, succumb to peer pressure to make the right faces and noises... Kristen Wiig is amazing. Seems like she can do just about anything. Love this little girl who is so expressive and talented. She just bursts with ENERGY out of her tiny little body. Blows me away. Such an amazing fully realized piece of art.
Making peace with your child self ❤
