I tend to just lift 200m before hard braking zones, and then break accordingly later. If it's not enough, I raise than number for the harder breaking zones.
Ben got the order wrong, and missed the biggest tip... The biggest tip about fuel saving and tyre wear practice programs is to do the fuel saving program FIRST and abuse a fresh set of tyres to try and get the purple score (coasting before heavy braking zones is the key). After that do the tyre wear program in the same session with the SAME set of tyres as the fuel saving program (the slightly worn ones). Why? Because tyres wear at a more rapid rate when they are fresh, and after a couple of laps the tyre wear curve starts to plateau. This means the tyre wear program will always be harder on fresh rubber than slightly worn ones. You'll find it much easier on set you've already used. And also try and do all the paractice programs in 1 or 2 laps each and save your engines!
Hadn't played an F1 game since 2010 but just watching this career has really helped, have only done a few races in my Sauber career mode, started with traction control on medium and other assists etc. but have quickly picked up how to do well without them thanks to you. Now using no assists, outperforming my teammate and occasionally squeezing a point or two. So thanks, Ben, from a thankful sub :)
Indeed I'd love to have some good setups, I only touch wings, differential and brakes but like I've no idea how to setup the suspensions, aarava had actually decent ones for F1 2016, not optimal but good enough
random t-rex stock set ups always work well, basically adjusting wings for top speed and downforce. On time trial, just pick someone near the top, and try their setup. Not always good for full race distance, but will give you good qualifying pace
Ben, let's Go! Now just make a Tips and Tricks to racing video. How to drive, Attacking, deafening, consistency, breaking techniques, Component Management etc... That could be entertaining.
Its pretty easy to pass all tests this year, started my Career yesterday with Sauber and got everything purple first time. the little explanation in the screen helped a lot, espacially for fuel saving
The team overfueled me by about 4 and a half laps for baku but it actually helped me a lot. I ran rich through the entire 3rd sector for every lap and i finished 7th in a sauber
This is probably just me but I found the qualifying test to be a good start to free practice because looking at my delta while running a hot lap always gives me a good idea on how I'm suppose to adjust the balance of the car. Once that's done, every other practice program becomes incredibly easy to accomplish.
Your right about the fuel saving. I had to figure out how to pass it and what I do to pass is exactly what you said, about 100 ft before you would brake to go into a corner, just lift off the gas and coast then brake after you coast for 100-200ft. Now I pass every time racing on difficulty level 95.
For tyrewear test, slow your downshifts down, a lot of people lock the rears. For lift and coast lift 50m before you'd brake and let it roll in to the corner
When he was talking about running rich on the race strategy and said it might start you with too much gas but remember, you can change the amount of gas you start with before the race starts.
Doing really well in my career. At monza in the Renault and currently 6th in the championship. Had some really good races and the Red Bulls have had many disasters which has allowed for me to get higher up the grid
Always helpful Ben, nice one. I'm struggling trying to make Sauber competitive, those resource points are like gold mate! I always try to upgrade quality control before big upgrades so that hopefully they'll be successful first time out. Keep up the good work, enjoying career mode videos immensely
Your statement excludes the possibility of You being quick, though. You meant to say you have one lap quick pace, but lack of consistency. Being quick is a sum of all the skills, mentaly and physicaly. If you cannot keep it on track, you cannot say you are quick. In my races, Expert/Legend I do not have quickest one lap pace, but I rarely have collision or crash or miss breaking points, in like full career mode left the track or span maybe 3 times in total.
I'm driving with a keyboard, and using automatic gears. These tests are miserably hard with this setup. You can either NOT turn the wheel, or turn 100%. Coast, or accelerate 100%. Saving tires this way is so hard, you have to "tap" the steering in corners...
I found it much easier to manage tyre wear on wheel. Used a pad for years and just switched to wheel a week ago and pretty much getting same lap times but tyre wear is full purple compared to before when it would be a more mid green (same track)
These things are easy xD They tell you what to do: Tyre management: Slow acceleration out of the corner and being on the racing line Fuel saving: Lift and coast, the time they give you is very generous
I don't use flashback in track acclimatisation, If I miss a door, then I restart the program from start. The only time I use flashbacks is when I'm using a worn gearbox and that a gear problem happen within this program. I just flashback before the problem :)
For tyre wear I brake earlier and less harshly into the corners, I don't accelerate whilst turning and I ease onto the throttle rather than going full revs straight away and I almost always get purple and within the lap time
I play on pad and when you learn how to take it easy on the steering then you perfect that. Through the high speed corners don't jack your joystick to the right or left I find that that is key
I don't really upshift early for fuel saving, as much as I do to save wear on the ICE. As it is now my second power unit has maybe 20-30 more laps on it that my first power unit and it's only at 50-60% wear. Granted reliability upgrades help (and the patch) but in this game how you drive is extremely important.
Couple of questions: 1: i got 285/275 possible resource points for one of my practice program. How is that possible? 2: Could you make a tutorial on setups, downforce, wings, brakes, fuel management and other choices you make before and under the race? Love your vids. Keep on keeping on!
Yeah that would be nice. But to be honest, it is written in Components their description of why those components wear. So you just have to avoid doing those things, like riding on Curbs, or high reeving the car etc...
Spiros Kaftanis I figured it out if you play on 50%race length you will be fine, the game has a glitch on 25% . I had my gearbox last 9 races on 50% and on 25% I was only getting 3 races per gearbox.
It's depends on what difficulty your on how easy they are to pass. The race pace seems a lot slower than the delta times. Which I was struggling with at the beginning so for practice and qualifying I lower the difficulty by 2 notches to make it more believable and fun for me.
You're giving me a new perspective. I've just been trying to stay on the track, but if I have to be that precise with braking and saving gas...then this game might just go into my list of games I play, but I don't see winning the career.
Found the tyre management is more evil than in 2016. Also think being in the McLaren doesn't help either. Will ever have a green delta and a high wear rate. Or a good wear rate and a red delta. Can't get a green on both yet. The fuel save I found took a little getting us to as well.
Ben, could you go through a tutorial of this for a pad because it seems to be very difficult to pass some of these practice programs on the pad. Compared to a wheel you can see a big difference.
Hey dude! Thank you for the tutorial. When you are playing with pad is more difficult to save tyres and fuel because is not so gently the gas / brake (at least in my case).
Any tips on tyre saving for the pad? On the corners I just get from half to 0 in one corner, just can't get it through, also any tips on fuel? Rest is ok, btw if it helps I'm in the Renault
Tyre Wear program in Brazil is horible, i think its gliched. No matter what i do or what setup i use or even going slow and not making the delta time the bar stays in red. Edit: and btw, when i went from Brazil quali to race, everyone got penalty, i don't think that all AI changed the gearbox or something all the same time. Maybe a glich.
Hi men! This video helped me a lot to pass the fuel test. I wanted to know if you know or could help me to have an optimal configuration in the game. I have a Logitech G27 steering wheel and I do not know if I have it properly configured. If you could help me with an answer or a video would be great! Thanks for everything!
The only problem i have is my car losing the back end during track acclimatization programme on australia, I can't keep my torro rosso straight for the life of me.
Where do you find the menu with fuel, brakes, ERS and so on that you have in the right corner by the gears? There is no explanation where to find it anywhere (Im playing F1 2019) but I think it would be basicly the same
I never actually tried this but I wonder if it would be much more difficult to do the practice programmes with automatic gearbox, I played manual gearbox since F1 2010.
Thanks for the helpful vid! Particularly tyre wear, I’ve had the most trouble with that. I usually start with the fuel program. Anyway, I’ve watched a few vids now, other producers as well and I’ve noticed the camera view you use is the normal. It surprises me many others don’t use cockpit view. Any particular reason why or personal preference?
I just got a wheel today and I'm struggling to keep te car in a straight line let alone turn a corrner It doesn't help I'm not used to a wheel but have you got any tips and how long it took for you to get used to the wheel
I have a load of setup questions. I started a career in Sauber and I pretty much know nothing about ideal setups and if a particular track needs more downforce or a better top speed setup. Is there anybody who can give me a rundown of good Sauber setups on the different tracks?
What is best way to adjust setups for race from TT ones like TRL Limitless' ones? Also, is this a way to make practice programmes easier e.g. Softer suspension for tyre wear test?
Hi i bougjt 2016 and 2017 really like the sport sure makes u a better driver i never use rewind because it kills my immersion of realism but i am enjoying the challenge. I am midway through my 2016 season then i got 2017. I almost feel i should at least do one full season in 2016 what would you suggest because i hate how they have these really extensive season or career modes but i never can do them before the next game comes out. So should i abandon 2016 and just do 2017 or should i continue with 2016. ? Not sure about online mode but I am on xbox one and is the online career possible
In my career I drive Williams and play on difficulty at 95. During some practice programs and especially qualifying I struggle to get good lap times or at least 95% of the AI lap faster than I do, yet during the race I can pull off a P5 finish without problem. Am I the only one who has this issue?
I have a question on the game, the resource tree, does it reset every season while keeping the progress you've made? Another question, if everyteam has maxed out the resource tree, are all the cars equal or is it the standard picking order of the teams? (merc/ferrari 1, RB 2, etc...)
aah, well thank you for explaining. I don't like the way codemasters did that. You can make a team WCC but you can't keep them (for the lower teams that is)
I usually play motogp game and when I try this game few hours ago I was confused as hell. I thought it was not gonna be that hard but man I was wrong. Motogp game doesn't offer as many as details as this game. Also the last f1 game I played was f1 06 and the new one feels very very very different. I know that the words im about to say is probably not supposed to be said here but I hope motogp18 will be at least as good as this. Thanks for this video giving me a few tips. Cheers from a motogp guy trying to get a grip on this f1 game✌
I am racing in 85(Expert) with DS4. Is it too low to improve myself? I tried 90(Master) with McLaren but sometimes ı cannot catch AI and thats feel bad. Any suggestions? Should ı play 85 and enjoy or else
during the fuel saving if you're on the final straight and you have excess delta time, you could lift off and it helps save a lot of fuel
I tend to just lift 200m before hard braking zones, and then break accordingly later. If it's not enough, I raise than number for the harder breaking zones.
thats what i do it takes me like 3 flashbacks to get it perfect
Aryan Jolly wow flashbacks what a noob jk i use flashbacks
Or use high gears with low speed, it helps too (:
m8 u probably use assists
Ben got the order wrong, and missed the biggest tip... The biggest tip about fuel saving and tyre wear practice programs is to do the fuel saving program FIRST and abuse a fresh set of tyres to try and get the purple score (coasting before heavy braking zones is the key).

Can't wait for tips from Ben on how to get out of Q1 in career mode.... oh wait
conor spencer Set difficulty to 20%, play in a Ferrari/Mercedes, and voila. You can even lap other cars after a few laps.
When you have a keyboard and tyre wear is for you impossible
Next Tutorial about Career Mode Car Setups?
Kanjee xd watch TRL limitless for setups
Eric Flame that are time trial setups not career setups. And his setups are based on pad so pretty much useless for wheel users
Indeed I'd love to have some good setups, I only touch wings, differential and brakes but like I've no idea how to setup the suspensions, aarava had actually decent ones for F1 2016, not optimal but good enough
Cousin have a look at Trl limitless vids on YT, really good, also talks through braking points, turn in points etc
random t-rex stock set ups always work well, basically adjusting wings for top speed and downforce.
I only just jumped into the F1 games (started with 2016 in June this year) and I've been loving these videos. Keep up the great work.
Its pretty easy to pass all tests this year, started my Career yesterday with Sauber and got everything purple first time. the little explanation in the screen helped a lot, espacially for fuel saving
Maybe I can finally pass the fuel tests xD
The team overfueled me by about 4 and a half laps for baku but it actually helped me a lot. I ran rich through the entire 3rd sector for every lap and i finished 7th in a sauber
and it probably cooked your engine as well haha
Most of these depend on the game difficulty too.
You could talk about tyre regulations, i do understand them, but you explaining them could probably make me remember them a whole lot better
This is probably just me but I found the qualifying test to be a good start to free practice because looking at my delta while running a hot lap always gives me a good idea on how I'm suppose to adjust the balance of the car. Tip on the fuel saving test: go full tryhard so you are 2 ro 3 seconds up, and lift on the straight, works for me 😂😐
Thx. I can't seem to do tyre wear without moving like a snail
the key is not so much speed of the corner but realy to feed the car in. just realy smooth wirh minimal corrections
I feel fuel saving is a piece of cake. Lifting and coasting is by far the easiest
Always helpful Ben, nice one. I'm struggling trying to make Sauber competitive, those resource points are like gold mate! I always try to upgrade quality control before big upgrades so that hopefully they'll be successful first time out. Keep up the good work, enjoying career mode videos immensely
Imo best way to do fuel saving is with softest tyres on that track. You get more grip and can do that lap faster, so you can stay more off throtle.
BEN USES FLASHBACKS!!!! TIAMETMARDUK EXSPOSED!!! 😂😂😂😂 Nah joking, i always do it😂😂
I use a controller. Without flashbacks I would have commited suicide by Monaco.
Same especially when you get a pen for passing a car that has spun out.....
Your statement excludes the possibility of You being quick, though.
You meant to say you have one lap quick pace, but lack of consistency.
Being quick is a sum of all the skills, mentaly and physicaly.

+Aurora Music You're not a quick driver until you cant do 6 laps without mistakes.
I use a controller too, no assists, no flashbacks, ai set to 92
Thanks Ben. Appreciate it. This is really a nightmare to do, but after watching this, should be acing it in no time. Keep up the great work.

Tim Suetens Unlucky
Tim Suetens y tho, don’t you have a controller?
Tyre wear: don 't push the trigger all the way try to softly push
What about Baku though, the tyre-ware shoots down even on the straights. Didn't have a clue how to do it.
I found it much easier to manage tyre wear on wheel. Used a pad for years and just switched to wheel a week ago and pretty much getting same lap times but tyre wear is full purple compared to before when it would be a more mid green (same track)
Make also sure that you are done breaking before turning in when you are doing the tyre wear test.

i do tyre wear with lift&coast.. it worked for me.
Edit: and i use rich revs so i get a good delta
Couple of questions:
1: i got 285/275 possible resource points for one of my practice program. How is that possible?
2: Could you make a tutorial on setups, downforce, wings, brakes, fuel management and other choices you make before and under the race?
Love your vids. Keep on keeping on!
For the fuel saving ... go on a fast lap and then before the line shift to 8th and coast
Please we need a tutorial about how to save your engine and the gearbox :)
Spiros Kaftanis and mgu-h
Yeah that would be nice.
But to be honest, it is written in Components their description of why those components wear.
So you just have to avoid doing those things, like riding on Curbs, or high reeving the car etc...
Fabian der Reiter der Nation that is the engine
They patched it for 25% races. Easier now

Thanks Ben! The fuel saving tipps helps mutch!! Cheers mate!
This is a blessing. Tyre and Fuel tests are the worst XD
in fuel saving program. if you stay in low r.p.m in straights. you can pass it easyly

no assists for me btw....and I'm a noooooob.
The race strategy rich revs thing explains why my mclaren had 12 laps of extra fuel at Monaco then XD
Try turning all assists on for the first 3 practice programs then turn them off for the last two, qualifying and the race
Compared to a wheel you can see a big difference.
never had any problem getting purple with the fuel savings. just the tire wear giving me trouble sometimes.
Hey dude! Thank you for the tutorial. When you are playing with pad is more difficult to save tyres and fuel because is not so gently the gas / brake (at least in my case).
Thanks heaps for this mate waa struggling big time on the pad but watched this then nailed the next lot of them
With fuel saving lift like 50 metres before you brake then shift up at 10,000 rpm btw dont shift down too agressive
I was going to ask about Powertrain management. Look forward to it 🙏
Any tips on tyre saving for the pad? On the corners I just get from half to 0 in one corner, just can't get it through, also any tips on fuel? Rest is ok, btw if it helps I'm in the Renault
Nicely done. I'm looking to get this one very soon and your vids are very enlightening. Thanks again and keep up the good work. Later from the states.
Do setups for all the tracks in career mode for both wheel and pad users.
Hey Ben, could you do a setup tutorial? It would be very helpful for me. Thanks!
The problem is not to pass them, but how to finish perfect😏
Could you please make a Tutorial of the engine and gearbox management??
Ben mate, cheers for the vid as it has given me a hand on passing these bloody tests :) When does the league racing recommence????
Hi men!
This video helped me a lot to pass the fuel test. I wanted to know if you know or could help me to have an optimal configuration in the game. I have a Logitech G27 steering wheel and I do not know if I have it properly configured. If you could help me with an answer or a video would be great! Thanks for everything!
For some reason in my friend's copy of the game lifting and coasting actually uses more fuel so......ummmmm.......good one Codies
Can you do a video teaching us how to use a wheel and no assists! Also what's your camera settings
Ben, any Gamepad specific advice regarding the tyre & fuel programs?
Could you do a video about driving in the wet/ changing conditions
Thanks so much, I remember sending a tweet to you about this topic!
The fuel saving one is so much easier then tire wear imo
4:20 now I know what Stroll did today at turn 1 :D
Im able to do everything besides tire wear. I find it very tough to do it on a ps4 controller personally.
There's this Brazilian guy on PS4 who's career score has almost a million 😨
Cool F1Racer239 the top spots on these leaderboards are always reserved for cheaters
Jan Philip Ikr
The only problem i have is my car losing the back end during track acclimatization programme on australia, I can't keep my torro rosso straight for the life of me.
Thx for this video. Good info, well explained
Now I know what to do on my next career vid
Thanks this really helps!!
Thanks
Really helped me with fuel saving
Ben I love your vids and thanks for the help!
Where do you find the menu with fuel, brakes, ERS and so on that you have in the right corner by the gears? There is no explanation where to find it anywhere (Im playing F1 2019) but I think it would be basicly the same
the tyre program is such an imposible thing in pc with keyboard... when you do the corner u can do it with out agression.
I never actually tried this but I wonder if it would be much more difficult to do the practice programmes with automatic gearbox, I played manual gearbox since F1 2010.
I run low Revs down the straights for the fuel saving
Thanks for the helpful vid! Particularly tyre wear, I’ve had the most trouble with that. I usually start with the fuel program. Anyway, I’ve watched a few vids now, other producers as well and I’ve noticed the camera view you use is the normal. It surprises me many others don’t use cockpit view. Thanks this tips helped me a lot :)
Is the tyre wear test still a nightmare to do for pad users?
Thank you for the tutorial, in my career mode I'm p6 in drivers standings with force India
i can never seem to complete the extra objective you get in the team objectives tab whenever you upgrade the tyrewear.
no idea how it's done
I just got a wheel today and I'm struggling to keep te car in a straight line let alone turn a corrner It doesn't help I'm not used to a wheel but have you got any tips and how long it took for you to get used to the wheel
Can you cease R&D in this game like in f1 2016 to have a nice bonus next season?
I have a load of setup questions.
I started a career in Sauber and I pretty much know nothing about ideal setups and if a particular track needs more downforce or a better top speed setup.

What is best way to adjust setups for race from TT ones like TRL Limitless' ones?
Also, is this a way to make practice programmes easier e.g. Softer suspension for tyre wear test?
When you do these, are you using her car setup that you set, like down force and all that, or does the pc/ Console have pre set setups that it uses?
Is it worth it to run the Race Strategy program on different tyre compounds?
