- Former editor of NME and Q and now broadcaster on Talk Sport Danny Kelly shows us just a few of his treasures, including a 1954 record with shrink wrap still intact, hip hop singles which are worth more than your house, an actual Curtis Mayfield record contract, a signed album by the most frightening man in rock and roll, wonders why the Groundhogs never became Led Zeppelin famous and explains how all those saucy covers of Trojan albums had something familiar about them.

We need Part 2 asap could isten to Danny for ages.
Danny Kelly, Great guy, always interesting........
could listen to him read an instruction manual!
I had the great privilege of meeting Ansell Collins when he brought over the original 2" 16 track multi-track tape of Double Barrel for a remix I was engineering. Lovely man and what an absolute classic track.
Another great half hour! Thanks gents....keep them coming, they are a highlight of these times.
An absolute joy!
Wow!! Danny Kelly should be doing this with you chaps every day, fantastic stuff
I can only say, more Danny please. Wonderful.
just brilliant!
Music journalists are very clever and erudite people. Fantastic.
Once again Dave and Mark present another gem of an interview. Your RUclips views are woefully low for such great content and entertainment.
Thanks chaps!
Superb, felt like a breath of fresh air for Word with lots of reggae chat. Get this man back every week please!
In fact I can remember Richard Skinner showing the JAMC's vid of You Trip Me Up and 'warning' us that it 'could be in the charts next week.
Wow, all three of you have no idea how you formed, affirmed and connected the important pathways of a curious young mind! Thank you, now don't you stop!
Great stuff, as ever. Yes, more DK please. One of my favourite items of memorabilia is the 'Behind NME Lines' badge he gave me at Glastonbury '92.
Really enjoyed this one. Thanks.
I suppose ''Looking after 20,000 records in a cowshed with Danny Kelly'' was a better title than ''Double Barrel Drive By's and Guns Against The Head''
great interview, keep up the good work lads.
Great interview, and agree with Danny that Bob's best work by far was between 1967 and 1972 for his Wail'n Soul'm and Tuff Gong labels - plus Dave Barker was a cracking singer, check out his duets with Glen Brown in the sixties
Record collecting drives you mad as an obsessive. I used to be one and sold my collection apart from albums I really like and play. I feel so much better and don’t drive my family mad seeking out records when on holiday.
I love how he describes his collection in feet! ie. ‘I’ve got about 6 foot of Bob Dylan!!’ Brilliant.
'Strictly Personal' is woefully underrated - it really is the perfect missing link between Safe as Milk and Trout Mask.
Went to Charlton football ground “ the valley back” in 1974 the who,bad company, humble pie ,Danny Kelly was there with a few mates , car battery, blacknwhite 📺,because England V Scotland was on tv, that was our version of I phone 😂
wonderful
An object lesson in how to make time absolutely fly by.
This are terrific guys, thank you so much! Any chance of getting Danny Baker on?
This was so fun more more more
sorry for being ignorant, is this the Danny Kelly who used to hang about with Chris Evans, Paul Gasgoine etc in the 90's?
Danny Baker, his best friend
"People talk about Pol Pot... this is much worse" 😂
Nice to hear some love for the great MF DOOM. He is a huge loss.
Danny is a fascinating charachter. He Snd Baker
Who would have taken him as a hip hop fan
And the recently deceased MC Doom too. Would never have thought he was hop hop fan in a million years. Could listen to Danny for hours such a likeable and interesting chap.
Get the books of Mark Ellen and David Hepworth.... Brilliant!!
any chance of danny doing a weekly show?
Give this man a weekly spot.....never knowingly undersold.
more kelly please...
No Spurs memoriliabia?? Danny Cmon
Shout out for The Bells and Families. Love them too, pity Lou didnt stick more to the Jazz path, cos his 80s guitar albums are dull.
I think Danny is brilliant & that is from a Gooner
Danny Kelly is so much more engaging than Danny Baker.
Wish this was 4 hours long because theres nowt but crap on t.v..
ahhh, apologies, the other is Danny Baker I was thinking......
Shock horror, journalists make stuff up, I'd never have known!.
Reggae yes, Hip-hop, no.
I just do not enjoy urban chit-chat and boasting.
Danny tells some great stories!
You reminded me of a youtube video with a guy who does a dance about the early work of Frank Lloyd Wright, but I can't find it, maybe it was blocked..?
But this is also good:
"Ein wurd in dein cellar"

I really liked Danny, until he mentioned the amount of Dylan albums he's got...
20 songs in 6 hours? Total Beefheartian myth
'The Jesus and Mary Chain got 4 (stars)'. I'm with Charles Shaar Murray, it's better than Sgt Pepper!
all this flailing tedious one upmanship is getting rather wearing. There is no poster in Approximately Infinite Universe; it's in Fly the previous album which is much better. The UK pressing is much nicer than the US edition which was dumped at HMV and shops in Detroit. He should take a leaf out of CSM's book and pay attention!
Vauxhall Vivas were shite !!!!
Hip hop?
Nah.
Cant relate to it at all.
