You're doing a lot of anime references in thumbnails recently. Berserk for Gael, Vento Aureo for the Pontiff, and now SnK for Yhorm. I'm not complaining, I just wanted to state that.
I am of the opinion that Yhorm is a descendent of High Lord Wolnir. Aside from appearing as a humanoid giant when confronted in the Abyss, Wolnir was a renowned tyrant with paranoid proclivities against his own subjects. This is, perhaps, subjective but I like to think that Yhorm lives under the haunting legacy of his ancestor Wolnir and acts as he does as a means of repentance towards those who lived under the conqueror's reign. Perhaps it is coincidental but, in the Catacombs of Carthus, bodies can be found clinging to the walls in an eerily similar manner to the charred corpses of the Profaned Capital. I think that Yhorm, upon his resurrection, returned to his home and discovered the aftermath of his Linking of the Fire and the subsequent eruption of the Profaned Flame and fell under the belief that he had wrought the same kind of destruction upon his own subjects as Wolnir. Perhaps this was the basis of his pact with Siegward, that he, Yhorm, must be slain were he ever to show signs of the corruption that afflicted his ancestor and thus he waits for his end having failed to an inescapable destiny of death and destruction. Side note: Yhorm's legendary "smashing technique" is performed by the giant skeletons in the Tomb of Giants in DS1, thus, perhaps, providing a vague link regarding his lineage.
I hate that smashing technique. Although it's interesting those skeletons used murakumos, even though it's supposed to be an eastern weapon. Probably just a coincidence as that was the nearest thing to what they use. And for some reason I assumed Wolnir was a normal dude and he just appears massive in the Abyss for whatever reasons. Maybe I was thinking that goblet skull we find is actually his phylactery or something, I dunno. Scale is often weird in the Souls games because people/bosses are often however big the developers want them to be. Vendrick was, by all accounts, a human, and yet he's even larger than some of the giants / Lords from the first game. Same deal with V-stat.
I don't think the prince would have an Unkindled. He's not old enough - he hasn't even died yet - and he was intended to be a Lord of Cinders from birth, so nobody he knew growing up would have tried and failed to Link the Fire before it was his turn, and since his refusal was the reason the old Lords of Cinder were resurrected to do it instead, it's unlikely anyone else tried after his refusal.
Aren't those statues? But, I always figured the people who made it (and the other statues) made Yhorm out to be a tyrant, when really he just wants to drink juice and play video games with Siegward.
What you said about us being the unkindled connected to Prince Lothric is explained pretty well in the game theorists video on the matter, pretty believe able.
Matpat over on Game Theory acteally made a connection to our unkindled undead to Lothric’s two princes, and a mistake in confusing patches with Siegward too lol XD
Hey there Silver Mont, I have recently joined the dark souls community and finished the first game. I have watched your lore videos about the first game and would like to tell you about a theory i came up with. As a friend of mine told me ( he was the one that told me to play the game to begin with), i should go for the tail of every dragon i encounter. So i did some tail cuting through the game. And when i got to ashlake and found the everlasting there (i hope this is written corectly, because i'm from germany and i do not realy know how to write the english names) i cut of his tail. The item i received, told me he was a descendant of the ancient dragons. He was, compared to Seath and kalamet, very small and he was sitting in a nest of some kind. Wich led me to think he is a new born dragon. But that made me wonder, if he is a new born dragon, doesnt that mean there are dragon eggs? And if there are dragoneggs, wouldnt seath had known about them? We were told that seath betrayed the dragons, right at the start of the game. So why did he not tell gwyn where the eggs where, if he truly betrayed the dragons? And then it hit me. What if seath was a douple agent? What if gwyn found out by himself that the dragons where weak to lightning and afterwards the dragons where losing this war? Think about it. He was at a big disadvantage against all the other dragon and yet he could kill houndreds of them? A single hit of him would not even scratch their skin, cause of their scales. But one hit of them would tear him apart. I dont think that he was able to kill all of these dragon at the same time. that is just not possible without scales. Also why should you betray your own kind, leaving you be the last one of them? You would be lonely. I dont think that any creature can live a live like that. And if that is true, why was seath seeking imortality? To extend his suffering? I dont think so. But if he had a misson that he mussn't fail at? What if the dragons chose him because he was the perfect outsider? He was a scaleless, Albinodragon. Who would have been better for the job than him? But the fact that he was scaleless also meant, that he was not everlasting. So i think that he was running out of time and thats why he made such drastic decisions to reach his goal. He kiddnaped woman to experiment on them so he could become imortal, to take care of the dragon eggs. Wich would make his story one of the saddest in all of dark souls, as far as i know. He had to kill hundreds of his kind to gain gwyns trust and live a life of lonlyness, to watch over the eggs and ensure, that the dragons didnt die out. What do you think is my theory possible? I would be very happy if you would tell me.
We don't know exactly why Seath is searching for immortality, but my bet would be that he craves what he does not have, and is afraid of death. He existed as (so far as we know) the only dragon without scales of immortality, meaning he was, compared to the others, fundamentally lacking. And throughout the game we know he is researching things (presumably immortality) to the extent it drives him insane. He's also kidnapping women from all over Lordran - my thinking on that is because women / mothers "create" life, he thinks they might hold secrets to immortality or something.
"They're probably gonna need a latter to get on his back" I can't help but think of that one line from dragon age origins "can i get you a latter, so you can get off my back!"
I dunno, I guess I'll finish making the lore videos I want to and then see what there is to do after that. I've still got Demon's Souls to cover haha, now that there's no new games on the horizon, I finally have time!
God, everytime again, I love your videos, I love your adorable arts, and I mostly love you! Your voice is such a curing one, which brings up a little light in my little dark soul.. Im looking forward to the next video ':3
I do wonder what made Yhorm "go rouge" after waking up, but then again, I imagine being set on fire hurts, perhaps even more so if you're kindling for an entire world/age, Could be all the reason he needed? Not wanting to experience that again? Then again, they're is some mention about when Yhorm offered himself up, "a wave of fire swept through and burnt nought but human flesh in the profaned capital" perhaps after returning to life and seeing what he'd caused, went mad? or felt keeping the age of fire is all for nought.
All Lords of Cinder have lost their shit after the awakening, as a result of being consumed by the First Flame. The only exception is prince Lothric, since he never actually linked the Flame
The closest we see to any of this is in the opening cinematic - Yhorm sits up, looks around for a bit and then explodes into fire and starts tooting. So I'm guessing he was not happy.
It may not be canon but I like Game Theory's theory that the main character of DS3 is the third member of the Black Hand(who is missing from the game) who work for the royal family and is therefore connected to Prince Lothric.
They kinda sound similar, but I can't think of too many connections elsewise between Yhorm and serpents. Although Frampt and Kaathe obviously work quite well there, along with Ash Lake having world-tree imagery.
Kinda? I'll talk more about it in the next lore video. Less so "literally" Ocelotte and more of a symbolic or reincarnation kinda dealio. But it's by no means a solid theory, just a really weird one I thought it'd be entertaining to discuss.
I have a good question, is yorm an actual giant or is it just a title. Like is he apart of the giant race or because of his emmense size he is given the name the giant. His face is similar as it looks like the hole giants have but he doesn't have the sharp teeth and evil eyes of the one giant we can see the face off. We can assume those off all the cofirmed giants of the race, dark souls 1 2 and 3, have this greenish skin with hidden face to hide the off-putting scary face, while yorm has none of them
Technically, Lorian isn't a lord of cinder. So if we're going with the unkindled being somehow connected to lords of cinder, Lorian wouldn't have one. After all, the other lords and the unkindled were risen *because* Lorain didn't want to become a lord of cinder.
the only thing I can think of in regards to Yhorm's name is that it might be derived from the Hebrew Jhoram, which according to google, it can mean "Jehovah Exalted" but I don't see a connection there so I doubt it has relevance.
That was one of the names I found whilst looking stuff up, yeah. I think it's PROBABLY a case where the name has no real meaning. That is often the case, but I still think it's worth it to check it out and speak about a little.
who or what would Yorm need to protect? One would figure itd be difficult to imagine him in a marriage like/love relationship with an actual much smaller human *strictly due to the insane size difference mind you* and since nothing else mentions any other giants at the Capital it leaves one to assume he might be protecting an object or place of some sort *beyond the capital at least*. I've always taken the lonely part of his name more too the lack of his kind around or anyone that generally likes him *beyond us and ol siggy poo that is* again which leads me to him losing an object of value to him. BUT WHAT?!
"Following the loss of the one he wished to protect, he forsook his shield." I don't know what the original description in Japanese is like, but the English translation at least implies it's a person.
I always found it a little disappointing that the giants in 1 were always so over looked, we don't really learn anything about them, my personal head cannon was that since Nito resides in the tomb of the giants that they were some how associated with him and his soul, and that their backstory was cut by time restraints, along with most everything else nito related. The fact that Nito just kind of lays around in his coffin could explain why they were enslaved by the gods and used as labor, and the fact that Nito is roughly the same height and size of the giants only creates more connections to the mysterious race. As far as Yorm goes, besides the obvious dark souls 2 giants relationship we don't get to learn anything about him, where did he come from, what about the rest of the giants, why did the flame kill all the humans after he was burnt, is he somehow connected to why the profaned flame is so different from other flames? I think he could have been a lot cooler of a character if he was given proper backstory, but I find that to be the case with a lot of dark souls 3 characters.
I had generally assumed the Tomb of the Giants was the tomb for all the "lords" / gods etc. Of course, Gwyn has his own tomb in Anor Londo, but he's a big shot. Plus we do find that one NK related ring or whatever, in the catacombs.
I assume the carrying pillar statues is related to Yhorm's throne "crushing" people, but as for why Socrates? I got no idea. Maybe these statues were made to prostate themselves before Yhorm, making it seem like he was all evil?
Siegwerd was the one who doubted him. His friend who stood by him was killed when he became a lord of cinder. It has nothing to to with the people of the profaned capital. They were both his friend but siegwerd doubted him becoming the lord of cinder, and the other supported him, and was killed for it. The way you explain that in the video is completely wrong.
Yes and no. That's a really weird ass crackpot theory that I came up with that I'll be talking about in the next video. So yes, I was insinuating that, but no I don't really believe it. It's just a bizarre theory that I thought would be fun to discuss.
I don't believe that Yhorm is a DS2 giant. I believe that he and all the other lords are reincarnations of Gwyn's 4 knights. Ludleth, the pygmy lord would be a reincarnation of Ciaran, the pygmy knight. The Abyss Watcher would all be Artorias. That one is almost certainly cannon because of their connection to Artorias through the Blood Of The Wolf. Aldritch would be Ornstein because of the way Aldritch seeks Anor Londo. Now that's not to say that The King Of The Storm isn't Orny, it's my theory that when you fully become a dragon you stop living, just as the dragons are all abiotic. So, because of that Ornstein is still dead. And of course Yhorm, the giant lord (not to be confused with the DS2 Giant Lord) is the reincarnation of Gough, the giant knight. With that in mind, what people thought about Yhorm being a reincarnation of Gwyn is true, and so are all the other lords.
Hmm, I can't really see much in the connection between Ornstein and Aldy. As for the Abyss Watchers / Farrion's Legion and Artorias, I think it was more that they were a cult who had some faint heritage from Artorias, possibly from his (or Sif's) dried up blood, so in a sense there is a connection there, but I don't think they are supposed to be a literal reincarnation.
You also need to remember that the flame would always restore old souls. Just remember that the lord souls bosses in DS2 have the same as the lords from DS1. If I remember correctly, it goes; Iron King=Gwyn Lost Sinner=Izalith Rotten=Nito Freja=Seath Because the knights of Gwyn have parts of Gwyn's soul, it would make some sense that they would be reincarnated after death. We know that at least Ornstein has part of Gwyn's soul because of the sunlight and connection to nameless. So, i would care to disagree.
Dark Souls II established that the Lord Souls were brought back into the world and inherited by new beings, yeah. But they were fairly straight-forward with that, Dark Souls III never really seemed to suggest or hint at the same. And in some ways you could see how each of those in II inherited some trait of the original. But Aldritch and Ornstein are quite far apart, I would say. And even Yhorm and Gough, who don't share much other than both being big dudes. Ludleth and Ciaran... well, I suppose there's Artorias / Ciaran items being in the Untended Graves, but personality wise I can't see much between 'em.
That is true, but it is just a theory. I mean, if we can theorize that Aldritch is Ornstein, then we can theorize that Straid is Gwyndolin. Also, I'd like to thank you for going out of your way to reply to comments like these, its good to have these converstations.
Hmm - well it's def big enough for that! But Aldrich has his own massive tomb in the Cathedral of the Deep, right? Although you'd be right to point out that neither exactly match the opening cinematics exactly.
I have a theory! Who is Silvermont really? Well! If we look at his name it includes 'silver' and a colour close to silver would be white and maybe blue. Who else had white and blue in they're colour scheme? Priscilla and Seath. I had to re-watch many of his videos to find out evidance to support my theory and then I found his seath lore video! In witch he states that he belives the dragons are gender less. Priscilla appears to be a female but I belive she is half dragon, so maybe 'she' is genderless! This is why I belive Priscilla is Silvermont! I will be waiting to see silvermonts in game characters to gather more evidance, if he uses a scythe then this theory is cannon.
so. after playing this game many times, what if we all have the time line off. that ds1 is first. that ds3 is second. and ds2 is last. ive been thinking about it and it makes the most sense. why else would ds3 have all the buildings from ds1 but ds2 has nothing. time long forgottwn of whole civilizations
I streamed the first level (or so) of the second DLC a while back, I'll stream the rest when I feel motivated to do so, and that'll be on YT. I've not been super motivated to play Nioh currently, although I do enjoy the game a lot. I played it sooooo much when it came out that I got a little burnt out, y'know?
Silver Mont think about it. Gotthard helps you for a while till is clear you intend to betray the crown. There are supposed to be 3 members of the black hand but we only ever meet 2.
im pretty sure the third black hand refers to the corpse we find the hunters ring on. "The hunters serve Lothric on the fringes and in the shadows. For generations, rulers of Lothric have relied especially upon the Black Hand hunters to punish enemies in ways that the king's Three Pillars cannot." Pretty sure this suggest that the rings are only given to the black hand as this is the description of the ring.
Hey, Alex, on that little hint at the end there, I've got to ask: Did you see MatPat's video on the history of your character in Dark Souls 3? Worth it, if only for a bit of entertainment.

no, it means that the baby is hidden there somewhere, or the king madness is summoning the cries somehow. the point is, if he is invisible because of censorship and he does dies as it was supposed to be. then we wouldn't hear the baby crying after
The inhabitants of the profane capital could've been aristocratic which would explain why Gilligan is there.
I love the art of all your videos
You're doing a lot of anime references in thumbnails recently. Berserk for Gael, Vento Aureo for the Pontiff, and now SnK for Yhorm.
I'm not complaining, I just wanted to state that.
I think there's been a quite a lot of them, over the years!
oh it's been too long Alex
That's what she said
ZING!
'seems like a good guy'
>has several hundreds of thousands of scorched and rotted human bodies holding up his throne.
I'm not sure who that is, but it's extremely likely that a lot of people would come to the same kinda conclusion haha
Clever thumbnail
Good video m8 thank you
Matpat over on Game Theory acteally made a connection to our unkindled undead to Lothric’s two princes, and a mistake in confusing patches with Siegward too lol XD
Yeah, people have brought up the "Unkindled = companion to Kamui and Gotthard" thing, which I think is interesting.
Yhrom was the progenitor of the jotun of norse mythology.
Hey there Silver Mont,
I have recently joined the dark souls community and finished the first game.
"They're probably gonna need a latter to get on his back"
I can't help but think of that one line from dragon age origins
"can i get you a latter, so you can get off my back!"
+Cr1mson 1 Gilligan was too powerful for dragon agr
i just wanted to say that cause I've been playing a lot of dragon age recently...idk y tho
Just to put it out in japanese the Profaned capital is called City of sin, so that's a thing to think about.
So Silver Mont, now that the Souls series is officially over, what are you going to do now? Will you eventually go Hollow like VaatiVidya?
I dunno, I guess I'll finish making the lore videos I want to and then see what there is to do after that. I've still got Demon's Souls to cover haha, now that there's no new games on the horizon, I finally have time!
Thanks, that was clear as mud
God, everytime again, I love your videos, I love your adorable arts, and I mostly love you! Your voice is such a curing one, which brings up a little light in my little dark soul..
Im looking forward to the next video ':3
Thanks! I'm glad ya like it.
Yeah, I can't think of anything that would immediately discredit such a theory
such a gentle voice :3
Woa... so your theory is that the unkindled that we play with in DkS 3 is Ocelotte?
Or that our character has inherited some part of Ocelotte's soul, something like that. I'll go into detail on the next video.
What is laddersmith Gillegan doing in the profaned capital?
Dying or sleeping
I think Yhorm is probably Wolnir's child.
4:43 LMAO
there is an old swedish cartoon made in 1974 where the main character is called " Jorm the giant"
I'm glad Yhorm never spoke, if he was gonna have a thick Swedish accent.
hahaha come on it's not that bad
I've always thought that the name Yhorm come from the Midgard Serpent, Jormungand. Which grew tall beneath the deep. But that's perhaps a stretch..
They kinda sound similar, but I can't think of too many connections elsewise between Yhorm and serpents. Although Frampt and Kaathe obviously work quite well there, along with Ash Lake having world-tree imagery.
What if the unkindled one that has a connection to Lothric is the player itself ?
That's my thinking! But what could it beeee?
Silver, great video. Are you implying the ashen one is ocelot?
We can assume those off all the cofirmed giants of the race, dark souls 1 2 and 3, have this greenish skin with hidden face to hide the off-putting scary face, while yorm has none of them
there is two type of giant, one is faceless which have dry up skin and one is normal like yhorm, wolnir and even nito
RIP Yhorm's armor you sexy boss armor.
I think it suffers the same thing many armours suffer from - looks great on NPCs but dorky on player models
For some reason he looks like Magnus the Red to me
Technically, Lorian isn't a lord of cinder. So if we're going with the unkindled being somehow connected to lords of cinder, Lorian wouldn't have one. After all, the other lords and the unkindled were risen *because* Lorain didn't want to become a lord of cinder.
Yeah, technically Lothric isn't a Lord of Cinder as he never linked the fire.
Oh man I missed you
I didn't go anywhere!
Silver Mont I still miss
It sucks that they cut out Yhorm's armor, would've been sweet to cosplay as him
Yeah, I'm not sure why they ever do stuff like that. Especially when it seems to be complete.
Silver Mont they had special armor for silver knight ledo which looks badass but is sadly cut content
Barely survived. I had trouble with every song besides Shake it Off and Party in the USA.
you lost me
Nice video
Ayyy i missed these
the only thing I can think of in regards to Yhorm's name is that it might be derived from the Hebrew Jhoram, which according to google, it can mean "Jehovah Exalted" but I don't see a connection there so I doubt it has relevance.
That was one of the names I found whilst looking stuff up, yeah. I think it's PROBABLY a case where the name has no real meaning. That is often the case, but I still think it's worth it to check it out and speak about a little.
so... there is actually a chance that the undead from DS3 is actually a real chosen one instead of a random guy that got lucky ?
Another sad fight in this game
who or what would Yorm need to protect? One would figure itd be difficult to imagine him in a marriage like/love relationship with an actual much smaller human *strictly due to the insane size difference mind you* and since nothing else mentions any other giants at the Capital it leaves one to assume he might be protecting an object or place of some sort *beyond the capital at least*. I've always taken the lonely part of his name more too the lack of his kind around or anyone that generally likes him *beyond us and ol siggy poo that is* again which leads me to him losing an object of value to him. BUT WHAT?!
"Following the loss of the one he wished to protect, he forsook his shield."
I don't know what the original description in Japanese is like, but the English translation at least implies it's a person.
ahh fair enough, I reeeeeally wanna know who though hah
Yhorm the Giant? More like Yawn the Giant, amiright?
+Average Joe Gaming Show haha I see what you did there old chum
We must have the same gap in our front tooth ;) my s's whistle exactly like yours do lol
But why are there statues all over the capital of people carrying pillars ? And why is Socrates one of them ?
I assume the carrying pillar statues is related to Yhorm's throne "crushing" people, but as for why Socrates? I got no idea. Maybe these statues were made to prostate themselves before Yhorm, making it seem like he was all evil?
+Subject 0mega hue Hue hue aw snap
Siegwerd was the one who doubted him. His friend who stood by him was killed when he became a lord of cinder. It has nothing to to with the people of the profaned capital. They were both his friend but siegwerd doubted him becoming the lord of cinder, and the other supported him, and was killed for it. The way you explain that in the video is completely wrong.
wait... are you suggesting the player is Ocelot ?
Yes and no. That's a really weird ass crackpot theory that I came up with that I'll be talking about in the next video. So yes, I was insinuating that, but no I don't really believe it. It's just a bizarre theory that I thought would be fun to discuss.
It is possible that our charactar had a connection with lothric ?
Perhaps.
That'll be the topic of the next video!
nice :D
23k more till silver play button!
+The Gamer On Ps4 :P hmm?
Silver Mont once you reach 100k subs you get a silver play button from YT.
That looks more like Beerus than Yhorm
How long have you been under the impression that Dark Souls isn't in the same universe as DBZ?
VaatiVidya WHO!??
shingeki no yhorm
Norse Mythos: Jörmungandr (yörmungandr in Spanish I Think), means Huge Monster.
It's the only name Ican remember, that it's read like Yhorm.
Real men kill Yhorm without the Storm Ruler, or without any spells. Fists or nothing
You also need to remember that the flame would always restore old souls. Just remember that the lord souls bosses in DS2 have the same as the lords from DS1. If I remember correctly, it goes;
Iron King=Gwyn
Lost Sinner=Izalith
Rotten=Nito
Freja=Seath
Because the knights of Gwyn have parts of Gwyn's soul, it would make some sense that they would be reincarnated after death.
The actual question you should be asking is who is Ludleths person
Gundyr?
Silver Mont
Maybe, thats a good answer actually
I thought the grave in Index Gundyr was Aldrich's not Yhorms...but, I always like Yhorm cause onion bro fought with you xD
Nice try. But Priscilla is 5000% my size but only 25% of my power.
Are you some sort of trap thing?
No I'm Silver Mont. How big of a frog are you?
Silver Mont I'm about the size of a tomato. Length and width.
That's tiny.
Silver Mont 😢 right in the feels
so. after playing this game many times, what if we all have the time line off. that ds1 is first. that ds3 is second. and ds2 is last. ive been thinking about it and it makes the most sense. why else would ds3 have all the buildings from ds1 but ds2 has nothing. time long forgottwn of whole civilizations
I actually have a video on this exact subject! If you haven't seen it, it's called like "Dark Souls - Clock Theory" and I put it up a few weeks ago.
Silver Mont WHAT?! How did i miss this?! gonna go watch now!!
EXTRA THICC
Who is?
Thorn and you amazing vids
Oh, god, not the Game Theory theory....
please, don't do it Silver Mont.
Who and what? But I do have a pretty retarded theory that I found amusing and talk about in the next video.
Dark souls is the worst place to make friends... They all die.
True that
Yhorm is Nordic
You're not gonna complete Nioh, are you?
Do you mean the base game or the DLC? 'cos I have a LP of the base game up on the channel.
DLC.
I love your voice.
Thanks Giant Dad with a giant red ball
Attack on titan!!
Attack on titty.
the main character is a black hand
Like Kamui and Gotthard?
Silver Mont yeah, that has to be the connection to the prince. It's you
Silver Mont think about it.
You are wrong.
Hey, Alex, on that little hint at the end there, I've got to ask: Did you see MatPat's video on the history of your character in Dark Souls 3? Worth it, if only for a bit of entertainment.
I haven't, but people keep bringing it up! In general, I don't watch much RUclips at all.
Sie Sind das Essen nien weir Sind die jäger
Ha ha ha haaa
Eeeeereen
I'm soooooo sorry to tell this but:
2018 is closing and doing a Lore-Video now should include some new ideas.
This Vid is meaningless!
