Paladin Leroy was a paladin of the Way of White, WoW for short. Leroy Jenkins was a paladin in World of Warcraft, WoW for short. So either this is a series of wacky coincidences, or this truly is a WoW reference.
I love your voice... It has something... magical inside... and your narrating is also very magical - it's like a reading from a very, very old book, when your listeners sit around a fire in cold winter night...
Nah mans needed the humanity bad bruh. He died in his boss room, he definitely need humanity to summon some help, and yes I’m commenting on a comment from 8 yrs ago.
Leeroy still seems like a reference in one way or another to the WoW player. After all, Leeroy will jump down into the pit without you into probably the most dangerous enemy in the game. He will also charge to the boss fog and will go out of his way to engage any enemy he meets.
Silver Mont In Dark Souls 1, all other summons will follow you. Maneater Mildred does this more than fighting the boss. I've ganked sometimes with the AI summons Lautrec and Solaire in the Parish to get my revenge on twinkers and hackers
I've already watched all your lore videos, but I keep coming back. I know it sounds silly but I like putting these videos to play while I'm going to sleep. It's like grown-ups' bedtime story. hahah PS: I'm not saying they are boring or that they make me sleepy. On the contrary, I love them. But I like to re-watch videos when I go to sleep.
Nah, I can understand that! I used to have insomnia when I was younger, and putting audio-books on would help me get to sleep. I still do it, out of habit.
"Incompetent Dark Spirit Siver Mont has invaded" Or hey, if it's an NPC, From should know I am willing to swim over to Japan and voice a character for free.
I missed that - about his strength increasing when he invades you, it's quite interesting huh? But I suppose it's not all that surprising? After all, Maneater Mildred has barely any health when she invades, but when you summon her, she has boats of it - same with Leeroy I suppose, he traded his health for strength! And thanks for the praise! I'm glad you like them.
At your point around 10:40, the Zweihander also says 'inhuman strength', indicating it may just be a form of eloquent wording than anything else. Unless of course they're indicating that undead have the potential to be inhuman...
well, leeroy is a paladin sent by the way of white to protect and help nito, nito does have a "friendship" with gwyn, nito have to spread death to the undeads so they have to feed the bonfires with humanity to turn them human again and to extend the flame by turning bonfire's flame stronger, leeroy isnt evil, he is just doing what he was sent to do
The royal soldier helmet from DS2 (and to a lesser extent the armor) have *strong* resemblance to Leeroy's gear. The hollow soldier shield (the hollow soldier set is just a tattered version of the RS set) says this... "The accoutrements of royal soldiers feature a depiction of a brave knight from an old parable." Wonder if there's a connection. Here's a comparison of concept art between the HSS and the paladin set: i.imgur.com/HW3Js6j.jpg
The resemblance is even more striking when you compare Leeroy's armour to the armour of the Royal Soldiers we encounter in the Giants' Memories: www.google.com/search?q=Drangleic+soldiers&safe=off&rlz=1C1CHBF_enCA958CA958&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiYxcq41azxAhWAMVkFHQQGCsoQ_AUoAXoECAEQAw&biw=1920&bih=969#imgrc=PY_k4eIzJzsdZM There aren't many coincidences in Dark Souls, and so, the similarity of the armour suggests to me that the Way Of White had a hand in the establishment of Drangleic.
Leeroy was a paladin whose only purpose was to retrieve the kindling. He died trying, and he died in the cursed Catacombs, so his spirit still wanders trying to retrieve the rite. So you can summon him in order to get it, but once you get it, he will stil try to get it from YOU. Either you are becoming the bad guy, like Pinwheel was, getting in the way of the church, or his ghost can simply not tell or does not bother with the difference between ally and foe. He died for the Rite of Kindling, and his soul will be relentlessly searching for it... At least that's how I see it.
Maybe Leeroy didn't really abbandon the Way of White. You know, Nito is not an antagonist to Gwyn's, in fact he is in charge of taking the humanity and souls back from humans to feed the First Flame and keep it lit, placing bonfires for the undead and creating the rite of kindling... which Pinweel stole. There are to opposing factions: the propagators of the First Flame and the Age of Fire (Gwyndolin, Frampt, Nito...) and the promoters of the Age of Dark (Darkstalker Kaathe, maybe Velka?). Which side do you think the Way of White teams with? It sounds quite obvious. And what woud the WoW want the Rite of Kindling back for otherwise, if not for giving it back to Nito?
I love the thumbnail. Little Nito. I imagine him saying "ᵇᵒᶰᵉˢ" like some adorable British toddler... I'm a late convert to the Souls series (though I certainly do remember King's Field) and I've really been enjoying your videos.
David Hoffnung I was actually speaking to the artist the other day, about which of these are our favourites, and this was one of hers - because of mini-Nito haha.
If you look closely, it says "herp herp herp" on Leeroy's amor. Was hoping for a derp at the end, unable to find it. Great vid BTW, love your lore series. Keep it up Alex :)
Hey all, being french let me give you some info about the Leeroy name, wich clears up some of the hypothesis in this video. Roy meant king in old french, but it comes from "regal" wich means "the rule", usually "the divine rule" or "the one who follows the rules of god", wich goes for kings, since they were such of divine rights. As for nowaday names, and derived of it, it comes from the age of crusades. The strongest, most respected amongst the knights was given the honor of setting foot first on the holy land, and was then given the name of Roy, or Leroy. See it as an honourific title. So yeah, Leeroy was the most honourable of the knights of white. Also, dragons represent the devil and/or satan in christianism, prolly makes sense in that regard that Leeroy uses a dragontooth mace.
I know this vid is pretty old but… maneater mildred invades and can be summoned as a reference to the outcasts of the depths. people outcast into the depths were put there because of their greed. so her invading, she wants your souls, yknow? then she doesnt get them so she decides to work alongside. i remember hearing that if she makes the last hit on quelaag that she'll disappear with the souls and you won't get any. havent tried that myself yet, but it's what i heard
Could it be that leeroy was slowly going hollow in the tomb of the giants and the reason why he invades you is to claim your humanity.if this is the case I dont understand why leeroy would go into the tomb of the giants.his task is only to kill pinwheel and get the richt of kindleing and you help him do so
Parker Benfield yea but time passes and you and leeroy are now in the same ''time''.Just like you and I aren't born on the same date but we both life in 2015.Leeroy is just older than the player
To put a comment towards the end of your vid: In Dark Souls 2 (yes, i know, not vid related... not really) "When Zullie the witch learned of Alva's dedication to Saint Serrate, she used all manner of tricks and deceit to ruin him, but in the end she would spend her life with him, supporting his endeavors." Zullie started out trying to beguile, and decieve Alva, but ended up being his support, and possibly his love. Interesting...
I always thought this was what happened paladin leeroy made it to nito to get the right of kindling but pinwheel already left with it. nito kills leeroy, you then summon leeroy fight pinwheel and gain the right of kindling and so leeroy invades you to claim what he was there for in the name of the way of white
i dont think he was protecting nito. i think that after helping you take the rite of kindling, he invades you in order to take it from you to bring it to the way of white. that was his mission after all.
because he needed help getting the rite of kindling. then when it was obtained he found an opportunity to get it. our weakest moment isnt directly after the boss fight, its after the boss fight and finding a ridge where it is safe to take a breather where we are most vulnerable.
I was surprised that you found significance in Leeroy being the "first but not the last" Undead of the Way of the White, yet forgot that you meet four other members of the Way of White that are Undead.
I know that it has nothing to do with the vid but i think the order of lordran from highest to lowest is: Anor Londo Sen's Fortress Undead burg Undead parish Firelink shrine Oolacile/darkroot garden Catacombs Tomb of the giants Demon Ruins/Izalith/queelag's domain/depths Ash Lake Abyss
There is that, yeah. It's a broken archstone, right? It could be an easter-egg, a secret, or an actual lore connection, depending on how you look at it. Some people like to think DeS and DaS are in the same world or universe. I don't personally think they are, but that's just me. It mostly comes down to individual preference, like so many things do, concerning the lore of these games - which is why forums of discussion are so good for 'em!
Alex, which shield did you end up designing in part II ? I heard it was the Phoenix Parma, & have been using it w/ a few characters. Fused it into their fighting styles. As a big fan of using the various polearms/twinblades, heavy shields can be cumbersome & just get in the way. High fire resistance, and significantly lighter ; the Phoenix Parma isn't obnoxiously large and heavy. Pretty good and the design on it looks cool, too.
Mont, your videos are awesomely informative AND entertaining only coming second to Prepare to Cry series. What a great job you are doing. BTW Leeroy has 50+ STR when he invades you.
While the Capra Demon had to be externally fertilized to death (by standing outside the arena while hurling dung pies over the wall.) and Lion Face with Hippo Buddha had consumed 4 days, several dozen attempts (roughly 40...), and cost me several hours, I actually enjoyed running through Sen's Fun-Time Party Lounge. Sure, it was incredibly cheap, arduous (Why does the boulder-puncher sporadically change directions?), and took me about seven hours of cumulative attempt time, I still realized how fantastically designed the level was. I'm currently donating the remainder of my teeth to The Duke's Archives.
just a quick theory but Humanity and souls gained by invading are considered a great power source, maybe Leeroy invades us to gain strength in order to fight Nito
I think in Leeroy's case - he helps you with Pinwheel to try and get the Rite of Kindling, the thing that all Pilgrims of the Way of White are after. Once you defeat Pinwheel, who has that Rite? You. So it makes sense that he'd try and take it. It's possible he thought you'd be an easier fight than a duplicating, fireball throwing, family conjoining necromancer so thought it would benefit him to help you get the Kindling so he could take it from you later.
I believe he isn't a gravelord. If he's the first undead sent by the Way of White, and they've been sending them for a long time, I think he's from the past in some way. Before Pinwheel stole the Rite of Kindling, when Nito still had it. He's invading to keep you from getting it, so he can insure it's kept by the Way of White.
We would summon leeroy and then push him off the platform into the bonewheel skeletons to see if he could solo them. He not only destroyed whatever one's attacked him, he ran through the ravine and out of the area like the Tasmanian devil, leaving destruction behind him. One time we happened to find where he went. This dude ran through the entire catacombs in his goal of getting to the host, he fought his way up to where you jump down to summon him but couldn't jump down. Dude is legend
The other day I actually found Patches and learned that he actually appears sooner in the Catacombs and later in the Tomb of the Giant's if you enter the Catacombs before the Thorolund pilgrims.
the fact havel can one hand is shield is much more impressive than his dragon tooth. leeroy can apparently one hand his grant at the ToTG so he's got 50 strength by then. but, tarkus does have at least 34 strength at a much earlier portion of the game (black iron greatshield needs 34) so maybe he would have gotten even stronger if he had gone on.
Leeroy was the first to enter the catacombs and did so to obtain the rite of kindling. Tahat is his purpouse there. When you get Ahold of it you become his target. And the corpse, my speculation is that by the time Leeroy enterd the catacombs the rite wa still in the hands of Nito and he fell in battle aginst the lord.
strongest npc in the game: smough, who has at least 58 strength if that doesn't count, i'd say andre of astora, because he can beat you to death with his fists
sadly leeroy doesn't fit into the forest of fallen giants. sad they just basically copied his armor with minor changes. would have loved to see the actual paladin armor in ds2
if I recall, the nexus is a place "outside" time. as time and space are constantly connected, to be outside time, would be the same as being outside space. If the nexus can connect to any time, it could also connect to any space as well. also, there is nothing in the game to say that boletaria doesn't exist.
I wonder how Leeroy would fare against Nito? He is one of the most powerful phantoms... he could probably WoG the skeletons and then batter Nito like 3-4 times with Grant and kill him.
Silver Mont i actualy used it to fight the dragon ontop of the dragons shrine the first time. i wuldent have made it the first time whitout that shield. and it looks cool so why wuldent you use it from time to time. i mean in ds you can do whatever aslong as it looks good right?
sebb999995 That's why I use it a lot haha. I mean hell, when entering the contest I just thought "I want to make a shield that I'd love to use." And I do really love what they've done with it. It's very faithful to the original design. They actually sent me a life-size version of that shield lol. I have it hanging up on my wall.
Shitstain McGlee Yeah... in the end though, nothing much came of that. Looks like it was just coincidence, unless you want to make some crazy ass speculation/theories, haha.
fb-apps.namcobandaigames.eu/darksouls2/upload/f/f/93b1f3d009a89a877d59c030553350ff.jpg There you go! Of course, I expect it'll look better in game, as modeled by From! There's a video on my channel detailing all the winners, too.
Paladin Leroy was a paladin of the Way of White, WoW for short. Leroy Jenkins was a paladin in World of Warcraft, WoW for short. So either this is a series of wacky coincidences, or this truly is a WoW reference.
Ordinarily I'd say it is all a coincidence, but... It FITS SO WELL!
OMG I never tought in that way, sir, you are a great man.
NotSoSeriousNick I've never put the Way Of White =wow part

I love your voice...
It has something... magical inside... and your narrating is also very magical - it's like a reading from a very, very old book, when your listeners sit around a fire in cold winter night...
Tom Riley Well thanks, man! I'm glad you're liking the videos. And hell, I'm glad someone likes my voice haha. I'm not a fan of if myself.
There should be a lore video about you, [insert your name here] the lore teller
CrokeyTV That's grand idea!!
whos that one on your profile pic?
CrokeyTV On mine? It's Dio, from Last Exile.
I like the idea that dark souls takes place a few hundred years after demon's souls and that Patches unlocked time travel
What if Leeroy attacked us to protect us from Nito?
Nah mans needed the humanity bad bruh. He died in his boss room, he definitely need humanity to summon some help, and yes I’m commenting on a comment from 8 yrs ago.
Leeroy still seems like a reference in one way or another to the WoW player. After all, Leeroy will jump down into the pit without you into probably the most dangerous enemy in the game. He will also charge to the boss fog and will go out of his way to engage any enemy he meets.
NoHomeLike 192.168.8.1 Don't most summons do that? They have pretty aggressive AI for the most part haha.
Silver Mont In Dark Souls 1, all other summons will follow you. Maneater Mildred does this more than fighting the boss. I've ganked sometimes with the AI summons Lautrec and Solaire in the Parish to get my revenge on twinkers and hackers
Well it certainly wasn't intentional from FromSoft, the translaters named him Leeroy.
I've already watched all your lore videos, but I keep coming back.
I know it sounds silly but I like putting these videos to play while I'm going to sleep. It's like grown-ups' bedtime story. hahah
PS: I'm not saying they are boring or that they make me sleepy. On the contrary, I love them. But I like to re-watch videos when I go to sleep.
Nah, I can understand that! I used to have insomnia when I was younger, and putting audio-books on would help me get to sleep. I still do it, out of habit.
So, I ain't the only one.
Doing it right now
I HEARD THAT JOJO REFRENCE.
Do you suppose when Paladin Leeroy infiltrated the Gravelord Realm, he was all like...LEEROOOOOOOOOOOOY!!!!111
Leeroy's helm looks kind of similar to the knight's helm from dark souls 2 in Drangleic
Royal Knight Set To be Exact, The entire set looks similiar the only Exception is the Chest piece with a Slight difference and a Different Color
"Incompetent Dark Spirit Siver Mont has invaded"
Or hey, if it's an NPC, From should know I am willing to swim over to Japan and voice a character for free.
Awwww yiss! I was waaaaaay too excited to see this video. Great work!
LEEROOOOOOY JEN- oh....ohhhhh....wrong Leeroy...uh *awkwardly exits the room*
god damn pinwheel's theme is so fucking creepy. i imagine if i ever got raped in jail this is exactly what would be playing through my head
+Toxically Masculine
Well that was....descriptive.
:(
dark :)
Pinwheel is Jeff Goldblum and pregnant Geena Davis in an alternate reality where they actually do get into the telepod together
+Jadervason Oh gross
I missed that - about his strength increasing when he invades you, it's quite interesting huh? But I suppose it's not all that surprising? After all, Maneater Mildred has barely any health when she invades, but when you summon her, she has boats of it - same with Leeroy I suppose, he traded his health for strength! And thanks for the praise! I'm glad you like them.
Ok you made Havel sound even cooler thanks to saying Havel beating his way out of a dragon with its tooth
At your point around 10:40, the Zweihander also says 'inhuman strength', indicating it may just be a form of eloquent wording than anything else.
Unless of course they're indicating that undead have the potential to be inhuman...
that would explain 20 str being in human and you being able to reach 99 which would be godlike
Avacyn, The Purifier It’s funny cause Zweihanders in real life aren’t heavy at all
Cold Moonlight
still, 4 kilos is more than enough
So nice to find new lore videos! Gonna watch all of them!
well, leeroy is a paladin sent by the way of white to protect and help nito, nito does have a "friendship" with gwyn, nito have to spread death to the undeads so they have to feed the bonfires with humanity to turn them human again and to extend the flame by turning bonfire's flame stronger, leeroy isnt evil, he is just doing what he was sent to do
I'm working on the next one right now! Just finished the pre-production script.
LEEROY JENKINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Silver Mont: The Illiterate Undead
Brilliant. Congrats on your shield being selected. Can't wait to see it.
as a relatively new Dark Souls player I can't stop watching your videos, so interesting ! :p
TheAlimech Well, thanks! I hope you enjoy 'em

Drew Roberts Yeah, all the contest winners got re-named in the actual game I believe. Mine went from "Shield of Ash" to "Phoenix Parma"
Great video man, got me thinking a lot - hope you keep making them
Thanks! And thanks to MrMisticoPL and Vi3tLoser and everyone else, too!

There'll be a vid about all the dragons, for sure.

Leroy invades you to steal the rite of kindling. He helped you kill pinwheel to see how strong you’re and he was too scared to do it alone.
Goddamit You make me really want to see the forur knights of gwyn versus Havel,Tarkus,Leeroy, and shiva that weel be so AMAZIIIIIIIIIIIIING
Wouldn't it! The Knights of Gwyn vs some of the best humanity has to offer.
To put a comment towards the end of your vid: In Dark Souls 2 (yes, i know, not vid related... not really) "When Zullie the witch learned of Alva's dedication to Saint Serrate, she used all manner of tricks and deceit to ruin him, but in the end she would spend her life with him, supporting his endeavors." He probably attacks you because you have the rite of kindling, which is why he also is a summon for pinwheel from whom you take it

just a quick theory but Humanity and souls gained by invading are considered a great power source, maybe Leeroy invades us to gain strength in order to fight Nito
Incest is the sport of the gods.
He's a unit, all right!
I always just assumed Leeroy was after the rite of kindling, and he simply invaded you for it.
Whoa, my favorite character's lore video came out on my birthday!
What a coincidence!
The other day I actually found Patches and learned that he actually appears sooner in the Catacombs and later in the Tomb of the Giant's if you enter the Catacombs before the Thorolund pilgrims.
You are very welcome!
What armor are you wearing at around 11:20?
Leeroy invades you because he needs humanity so he doesn't go hollow.
Paladin Leeroy. Both Paladins. WoW. World of Warcraft. Way of White. CONSPIRACY
I'll try lowering the volume of the music further in future videos, then. Thanks for the feedback!
Dude you kick so much ass keep the lore videos going!
GFWL has been replaced, do praise the sun for this.
You made a shield in Dark Souls 2? What does it look like I want to see if I have it!
the fact havel can one hand is shield is much more impressive than his dragon tooth. leeroy can apparently one hand his grant at the ToTG so he's got 50 strength by then. but, tarkus does have at least 34 strength at a much earlier portion of the game (black iron greatshield needs 34) so maybe he would have gotten even stronger if he had gone on.
Leeroy was the first to enter the catacombs and did so to obtain the rite of kindling. Tahat is his purpouse there. When you get Ahold of it you become his target.
And the corpse, my speculation is that by the time Leeroy enterd the catacombs the rite wa still in the hands of Nito and he fell in battle aginst the lord.
patches has a massive schnozer
yeh
Leroy ties with Black Iron Tarkus. If you pit them head to head it really is a toss up between the two.
strongest npc in the game: smough, who has at least 58 strength
if that doesn't count, i'd say andre of astora, because he can beat you to death with his fists
"feet"
Ano Namus Harr!
Silver Mont Dropkicks.
You would never expect them in a game about Knights and Magic and all that stuff from the medieval age.
Untill it happens.
LEEEERRRRRROOOOYYYYY JJJJEEEEENNNKKKKIIINNNNSSS!!!!!!!!!!
Omg he went in
god damn it Leeroy
i think leeroy was trying to get the rite of kindling from you after noticing that he didnt get it while helping you
Good video!
LEEEEEEROOOOOYYYY JENKINS!
sadly leeroy doesn't fit into the forest of fallen giants. sad they just basically copied his armor with minor changes. would have loved to see the actual paladin armor in ds2
At least you can do a Leeroy's cosplay with the helmet and some other armor.
0:44
Oh god that Nito
if I recall, the nexus is a place "outside" time. as time and space are constantly connected, to be outside time, would be the same as being outside space. If the nexus can connect to any time, it could also connect to any space as well. also, there is nothing in the game to say that boletaria doesn't exist.
Why I think Leeroy fights you is his way of saying "Nito's mine; go home, fool!"
I wonder how Leeroy would fare against Nito? He is one of the most powerful phantoms... he could probably WoG the skeletons and then batter Nito like 3-4 times with Grant and kill him.
what is that armour your wearing in the giants tomb ?
shadoguy1 The silver stuff? That's the Brass Set, but with texture mods to make it silver.
What armour is he wearing at 11:27?
Modded brass set on PC version.
witch shild in ds2 did you design? it wuld be cool to know if i used it or not
sebb999995 The Phoenix Parma, it's not a very popular shield cos... well, it kinda sucks, lol. 90% fire block though, so I guess it's good for that.
Silver Mont i actualy used it to fight the dragon ontop of the dragons shrine the first time. i wuldent have made it the first time whitout that shield. and it looks cool so why wuldent you use it from time to time. i mean in ds you can do whatever aslong as it looks good right?
sebb999995
That's why I use it a lot haha. I mean hell, when entering the contest I just thought "I want to make a shield that I'd love to use." And I do really love what they've done with it. It's very faithful to the original design.
They actually sent me a life-size version of that shield lol. I have it hanging up on my wall.
incredible how your speculation of his helmet and the Royal Soldier helmet from DS2 is close
Shitstain McGlee Yeah... in the end though, nothing much came of that. Looks like it was just coincidence, unless you want to make some crazy ass speculation/theories, haha.
where i can find a pic of your shield for D.S.2?
fb-apps.namcobandaigames.eu/darksouls2/upload/f/f/93b1f3d009a89a877d59c030553350ff.jpg There you go! Of course, I expect it'll look better in game, as modeled by From! There's a video on my channel detailing all the winners, too.
The Way of White is basically a gods' prptectors and servants covenant, maybe Leeroy was just protecting Nito's lord soul from the chosen undeads?!
***** That could make sense!
Where did you get these great character arts? Did you make them?
Edit: also lol GER vs. D4C, lol, love jojo. Speculation is fun.
Should be links in the description for 'em
Silver Mont cool, thanks.
