Great review. I use the extension cord so I can use my Tesla level 2 charger for my RAV4 prime that I just bought. The RAV4 120 plug takes about 10 hrs to charge where the Tesla level 2 charger with the extension charges in 2.5 hours.
I may consider buy one and put it in the truck What I have experienced is, when I arrive in certain Supercharging station, certain spot got ICE-ed :-( With this cord, I can still charge my car in front of that vehicle who took that spot. However, of course I will need to stay in the car while charging. At least, I am NOT blocked by that car 🙂
Although that does sound like a smart idea, this cord cannot handle supercharger speeds.
Serious question here. Wouldn’t it make more sense to use a NEMA 14-50 extension cable over this? I assume that would allow you to retain the charging door opening feature on the Tesla handle. I’m having a NEMA 14-50 installed soon for my new Model Y and will probably end up going that route.
I’m not sure if I knew that was an option I will have to look into that. My understanding of the NEMA extension cable is that it is not meant to pull 40 amps for hours at a time. It would likely be fine if you stick to a slow charger, but for anyone wanting to be able to maintain higher charging speeds this should help. Thanks for sharing!
I'm certain that the cable has an amperage rating. Will it allow you to DC supercharge and automatically sense the amperage limit? I know supercharger cables are liquid cooled.
This would be extremely helpful in towing situations...
Great point! The cable supports 48A, 240V, and 11.52 kW charging capacity. This does NOT work at superchargers. That would be a great idea for future products though. I agree for towing I can see an extreme benefit.
Looks great!
Thanks for the comment!
Thanks for video. Question - will it “turn off” or quit charging at your set point? I’m a new Tesla Owner. Thanks.
Yes, it will turn off at whatever you have the charge limit at. Welcome to the Tesla club!
Does your tesla not have the feature to open the charge port by pushing on it? my M3 2023 can do it
Yes, that is what I do when using this. Just have to gently push on the port. It still will not unlock though without using the app after charging is completed
In that case press the door handle to unlock the car before you handke the charger @DrewsReviews2023
This seems like a real gimmick product. I mean, how often do you really need to charge your car when your friends are over? And most Tesla owners I know back their car into the driveway anyways.
It’s nicer than you would think. I live on a busy street and backing in isn’t always the best solution. Mainly because when cars are behind me I can’t just quickly throw it in reverse. When I don’t back in I have to use this if I want to charge because the cord won’t reach.
@@DrewsReviews2023 I gotcha. Good point.
@@DrewsReviews2023 You’ll have to excuse me. I’ve been up all night. Had neck surgery yesterday morning and I’ve had horrible sleep, so RUclips has been my BFF lol
