      V10 with 4.30 is great for towing but with 2000rmp at 60mph you're taking some serious beating on fuel on the highway.
      Get bigger tires, that might actually raise your MPG On the highway and lower the axle ratio artificially. My ram 2500 with hemi runs 1800 RPM at 70mph. And 2100 at 80mph.

    • @Slim_Slid
      @Slim_Slid 3 года назад

      @@gc99289 Large and heavier tires on a truck decrease fuel efficiency,it never raises it.And the V10 is not a gas saver engine.If people are worried about fuel economy with a huge size gas engine in a heavy truck,then either they should consider a diesel truck with more deceny on fuel but more costly on mainteance,or just not purchase a truck at all.My 2002 F550 XLT had the 6.8L and I got 7-9 MPG,but keep it in mind that my truck was a estimate of 12,000 lbs because it had a service bed on the rear and it had 4:56 Gears too.

Been driving it 1 year love it,found a tune place had it tuned and by all means its not a race truck but if you punch mine like he did your asshole will suck seat when that f650 jumps to 65mph in just a few seconds. Its tuned at 550 hp and 500ftp torque i get 10 mpg if i keep my foot out of it 8 in the city. Should be able to tow more than 8600#, depending on rear differential and cooling systems in the truck. My previous 06' Expedition 4x4 w/3.73 gears towed a u-haul full car hauler and 89' Lincoln Towncar with ease, but rear sag was more than I would have liked, and that combinaton is relatively heavy. One may buy a 3/4 or 1 ton truck not only for towing, but payload capacity as well. For example, my father-in-law has a 2009 Hemi Ram crew and I have a 94' F250 supercab, and yes he has more power, but when loaded with concrete bags and lumber for fence building, he could not drive faster than 45mph without swaying all over the road. I, on the other hand pull a 34' travel trailer close to 10k lbs fully loaded with equipment and water with an 850lb tonque weight, not including firewood and other camping gear in bed at 60 and sometimes 70mph with little worry on vehicle handling. Hauling almost two cords of oak firewood in bed puts no stress on my suspension or engine performance.

    Whoever owns that truck, probably didn't re-gear after the lift and tires. I've driven a V10 F550 1.5 ton truck, and with the 4.88 gears it pulls like a diesel. That truck might have 4.10's or even 3.73's, so a jump to 4.88 or lower will bring it back to stock tire acceleration or better.

      That's a good point man and probably what the answer is. It definitely did not feel right but I had no reference since that's the first v10 truck I've driven. Diesels I've been in plenty and this specific one wasn't even close. Thanks!

    had a uhaul with this v10 in it, useless engine in my opinion. would have rather had my 2000 chev 2500 with the 6 vortek.. but i ended up with the v10 which was useless for power/towing.... 6.2 v8 ford engine would have been a better choice for towing, but it is what it is . v10 has more torque but doesnt use it at all with the gearing the trans computer uses. 6.2 v8 has more HP, a bit less touque but would still out perform the v10 POS... just a pile a trash the 6.8L is. climbing a hill with a load and a trailer with the v10 is a joke, if the trans shifts down to any gear, all that happens is the engine makes a bunch of more noise, with no additional power. Good job having a big 6.8 v10 that doesnt offer any real power for towing. for a 6.8 v10 you would expect more, but you'd be wrong.

    • @LJsGarage

    • @stephan4490
      @stephan4490 4 года назад +2

      Why would you pick the 6.2? It has less torque then the 6.8? That would have been the f53 chassis so 320 hp and 460 lb/ft compared to 385 hp and 430 lb/ft remember horse power is how fast you hit the wall and torque is how far you take the wall with you.
