    @oxcide101 Check out the other video. The notes was caused by a poorly installed aftermarket crossover pipe. I do not reccomend these. After removing the crossover the sound is much better. You can check it out in a newer video. Thanks for the comment good luck with your truck!!

    Hey there! I know this video is older but still awesome I have an 01 f350 dually superduty crew cab 8 foot bed v10 4x4 beast and am starting to go through it and make it my dream truck. I have all the front end parts to convert to 08-10 front end as well. I saw you posted that your truck has the Super chips 5 star tune. I know there is not much tuning for these 1st gen 2v v10s but exactly what tune did you get and did you think it was worth it? My truck is bone stock, but I have a set of stainless headers and stainless y pipe ready to be put on as 5 star recommends plus I will go with the flowmaster 40 you show in this vid. I like the sound. My truck, because its crew cab and long bed plus 4x4 ,weighs in at just under 12,000lbs. I don't care about gas mileage but care more about pulling power, especially uphills. I get the very common pinging under load going up hills even without towing anything. I usually have to add octane booster and put premium to get the pinging to not completely go away but close too it. I tow a 16 foot dual axle car trailer occasionally for project cars and just scored a 1978 25ft Argosy Airstream trailer that the wife and I are going through to make roadworthy and start doing some trips in it and of course towing it with our beast superduty. Again I just want a real persons input on the 5 star tune for these older v10's. I wish it was the newer 3v v10 but its not. I know the 5 star tune is not cheap and I don't want to get it if I don't see even a little help going up hills. Again nice truck you got there! Tony down here in EP texas!

      I did notice some low end torque. The problem is that I did the exhaust and regearing at the same time, so I am sure it was the combo. I had the same issue with pinging while towing up hills. Opening up the exhaust actually made the pinging worse/louder (more airflow made it run leaner) and I had the biggest benefit from putting in bigger injectors and doing all the coil packs. The 5 star tune did make a big difference and I think would be beneficial if you could take it to a shop and put it on a dyno and fine tune it. I went with a 91 octane performance, a 91 octane tow tune and a 87 octane tow tune. The biggest help was adjusting the shift points in the tow tune so that it would hold a gear and not "gear search." I didn't notice how much the tune helped until I put in the bigger injectors and went back to the stock intake with performance air filter. The aftermarket intake didn't really help. Anyway, this is just my finding. I still have the truck BTW and still going strong.
      I am older now and the truck does have a little drone when towing, I have been thinking about putting a 70 series on it.

      @@RamseysProductions Cool man. Appreciate the response. Yeah I guess these older v-10s just have their limitations but anything to get a little more torque and definitely the shift points changing up will help me. My truck just hit 200k have actually had it about 6 years and had no major issues at all. I keep the oil changes up and only thing I got now is the dreaded oil leak at the back bottom passenger side tiny oil leak.
      I think from the rear bottom part of the head gasket that drips over the starter. Its such small leak that it never drips on the ground, just a few drops that land right on the original exhaust and cause the burnt oil smell. I don't know if its true but all this time I used conventional motor oil from walmart ( super tech) and last month saw that the same oil but Full synthetic was the same price so I bought it! Then I swear right after this last oil change to synthetic i noticed the oil leak! Some people even techs say it should not have been the switch to full synthetic rather the miles of the engine and that I just had noticed it. Hmm. But I swear it happened like a week after that last oil change with synthetic! I just added a lucas oil leak sealer. Lets see if it helps.
      I know I will have to do the upgraded head gaskets soon and at that point I can redo the heads, do the timing chain service and install the stainless headers. We only travel up about 140 miles up to our place in Ruidoso Nm, and back to EP but plan on going further once the Airstream is ready so i can get all that work done first then get the 5 start tune as well. Will do like you said take it to a tune shop. So as far as bigger injectors what did you get exactly? If you can help me out with a link to those injectors It would be much appreciated. I love these trucks! only reason I bought this beast 6 years ago was because my dad had a similar truck years ago, a 99 f250 v10 long bed crew cab 2wd. It was the best truck he ever had so i was impressed and later search for this one. Ok man. Sorry I just saw I wrote a giant wall of response! Ok will still probably go with the flowmaster 40 first. I'm 51 and still like my trucks and car loud! lets see what the wife says when I put the 40! ha lol! Thanks, Tony in El paso,Tx!

    @Ford99F250V10 Flowmaster does not make the cat back duals for this vehicle. I went down to the local muffler shop told them what I wanted and they did it for about $300. I believe that the single in and single exit sounds better, but I wanted duals for the looks and the sound.

    Hi! I just bought a 2004 V10 Excursion 4x4 with a stock exhaust. I want to replace it but am still undecided as to what best I should put to get a NICE SOUND. The "cheap" solution seems to be to simply replace the stock muffler by a Flowmaster Super 44 single-in-dual-out and to put dual end pipes. What do you think? Actually, it would be great to discuss this via email if you dont mind? Thanks a lot for your help, best regards, Stefan (from Berlin, Germany).

    With the Super Chips tune, did it increase your fuel mileage? Love my Super Duty F-250 v10, purchased a year ago, but only getting about 11mpg is killing my wallet.

    • @RamseysProductions
      @RamseysProductions  4 года назад

      I only saw 1 mpg change. but over the years the mpg has gone down. I probably only get 9-10 now. That's with 4.30 gear, lockers and "35s"

      If you are worried about getting better fuel efficiency with a 5.4L or 6.8L,just don't get one in a Super Duty.The Triton is a awesome engine,but they do not get any great fuel economy.I had a 5.4L Supercrew and a 5.4L F-350,both trucks were bone stock and got 8-9 MPG all day long,and 10 MPG on the highway.My F-150 had 3.73 Gears and the dually had 4.10 Gears,the Gears do not really matter,they still have low numbers in saving gas.The 5.4L & V10 are cheap,and the Powerstroke can be expensive,the 7.3L & 6.0L are great engines too,and fuel efficiency is around 14-15 MPG,but costs to maintain them will be like the same amount as in making sure your gas truck does not reach empty on the tank.So it's a 'Pick Your Poison' kind of deal.

    Tks for video. You build a dual exhaust for your truck or was it a flowmaster kit?

      You won't get above 10 MPG out of a 5.4L and 6.8L.Both are bulletproof engines,but horrible on saving gas.

      @@Slim_Slid I regularly get 14 mpg with my 6.8L unless I'm doing only short runs with less than 10 minutes run time. '99 V10, crew cab, short bed, 4x4, automatic with 3.73 rear gear, factory size tire (265/75/16). Before I swapped out the 4.30 gears I would get 12 mpg pretty easily. Stock exhaust. Truck is bone stock other than the gears (3.73 was a factory option though) and some leveling airbags. Funny enough it feels faster unloaded with the 3.73's and I don't ever feel lacking in power while towing either. Haven't towed real heavy with it like that yet though.

      @@randr10 2002 F550 XLT with the V10 and 4:56 gears,I never ever got above 10 MPG,and I also had 265×75.16,and mine was a cabinet truck weighing close to 14,000 lbs.

      @randr10 3 года назад

      @@Slim_Slid Well, yeah, there's your explanation right there. Your truck weighs twice what mine does. Unless you run a diesel, you're probably not going to beat 10 mpg with something that heavy.
