He's so much fun to use, he feels so snappy. Don't get me wrong, I still love Zhongli, but holding his skill down and watching the meatball cutscene feels so slow compared to Thoma's instantaneous flip kick and burst.
I agree but I have to say I love that with Zhongli. When he ults it feels like you're telling everything to kneel before your might. Plus that cutscene of that impending doom is sick
Yeah, I wish those burst animations were optional. Sometimes they even change the camera angle. I don't like when games do that. (Also I love when the camera bugs and you can see the burst from the angle you were playing, without the cutscene)

They weren't wrong when they called him a Pyro Xingqiu, since his ICD, burst attack interval, burst energy cost and even the backflip on E lmao. He would be awesome with Cryo Diluc/Hu Tao and I can't wait. Edit: If anyone says he's not with the reason "he can't make Childe Vaporise every hit", I don't even want to bother arguing with you when you want to correct someone without knowing about Elemental Gauge. Edit 2: For those who don't want to see me yelling and see someone that actually got things right, look at crest9881's replies, he has proven that Thoma will struggle if a weak Cryo applier applies Cryo too fast, hence he can still enable, but not as good as Xingqiu. As you may have already known, Xingqiu loopholes ICD because he has multiple rainswords, Thoma does not because he only burst out 1 rush of flames. Therefore Xinqiu can apply Hydro very fast which can be vaporized every hit, whilst Thoma can only apply Pyro every 3 seconds(mind you it's a weak application too), you can't melt or vaporize his application consistently because he's the one trying to react. His damage compared to Xiangling in terms of Vape comps, is vastly underwhelming. He has low burst multipliers and he's trying to do reaction, If you're looking for a meta vape comp just use Xiangling, If you like him enough as a husbando why not? Just don't expect as much damage potential as Xiangling.
@@meltederaser376 You can Melt his Burst consistently, though? Unless someone thought people could use Ayaka to Melt all her attacks. No one should use him to be the trigger, just like how no one uses Xingqiu as the trigger(unless you're a Xinqiu E main). As for enabling Melt, the only problem would be when you trigger Melt with a Strong Cryo attack, which is not what Diluc and Hu Tao, they are weak element appliers, and what Thoma needs in a Cryo on-field DPS for him to be fully utilised. Also, dmg wise, his modifiers are understandably low due to how it's AOE. People argue his damage is lower than Xiangling, which, sure, because she's pretty much broken, but compare that to Xingqiu and as long as he hits more than 3, he outdamages c6 Xingqiu, 2 if not C6 Xingqiu. Sure he has the issue of not replenishing the element affliction as fast as Xingqiu, but with a shield that is tankier than Zhongli(unless against Cryo and Hydro) and AOE, while Cryo on-field DPS won't need to worry about his ICD anyways, I don't see how he's not Pyro Xingqiu.

People like to use Xingqiu and Bennett as a standard to measure new 4* characters against, but a year ago everyone was crapping on them. They complained you needed constellations to make them good, that Xingqiu's E was too costly, that Bennet didn't heal enough, etc etc. And now they're golden. It's true, they're amazing, but it's a bit unfair to expect new characters to be on pair with characters we spent a year building and studying. Thoma might not be great but I'm sure people will find a way to make him excel at something. Sometimes it takes a new weapon, the right team, the right enemies. This community is way too toxic, trying to shred to pieces every new character that comes out, and for what? Really, what's the reason?
Thoma is god tier to Xiao. I've deleted so many powerful enemies when they're both using their burst. Even before I had Thoma to C6, he's can help Xiao destroy enemies.
I needed more pyro particles. And not gonna lie, i was disappointed when i got thoma. But once i researched about him a bit and built him properly. He worked so well with anemo and hydro characters. Like fr, i was super surprised when he helped me reach 49k crit once. (I’m not op, just started playing recently). Now, he’s constantly replacing zhongli on my team and works so well with hu tao and jean. And his character is so cool too, his attacks are very interesting to use, and a polearm player just comes in handy. He’s so good, don’t judge him by looking at our community, try using him for yourself and oh my, you’ll see his potential. (He is perfect with a battery btw.)
@@andreaplatz_yt4086 For another good option, you could add Yun Jin to that Xiao Thoma team and then flex in whatever healer. Yun Jin offers an attack buff on normals etc on par with Bennett's buff, and is a geo support designed to work with multiple elements.
Kinda jelous cause I was planning to fully max Thoma, possibly make him C6 until getting Hu Tao(was lucky enough to get her), but instead I got C6 Sayu LMAO
I'll be honest, when I got thoma I felt him very useless and I felt bad because I love his design BUT I tried him on a monopyro team and I must say that he is amazing there. Bennet, xianling, thoma and kazuha are able to crash enemies easy. super recommended with this team!
I don't see the point of building him with a standard set, no one really expects damage from him due to the low multipliers even with reactions, I think recharge and health is more important for him
i built him the standard way and can hit 44k w his skill. thing is, his shield gets broken from one arrow of a hilichurl. it’s pretty hard balancing him tbh
@@quin2171 i think focusing on his shield is a better choice, his skill's multiplier is slightly higher than one hit from guoba, and has a 15 second cd, he still can deal some damage with reactions, but i think sacrificing his recharge and shield for that tiny bit of damage is kind of a waste of his utility

I agree I’m really shocked he even suggested a dps build nonetheless said it’s the BiS artifact set for Thoma lmao…. His damage is garbage no matter how you build Thoma. You might as well put nobelsse or milelith on him so he can buff your DPS more while shielding them. The only build from Gacha I don’t agree with….
one team that I’m building is yoimiya, thoma, xingqiu and diona. I like to call it the backflip team and it’s really entertaining to watch in battle, but alternatively it’s also called the icd pain team.
I once built a team that I liked to call "i refuse to die" - team with Kaeya, Xingqiu, Lisa and Jean. Like they kept healing themselves and Lisa was healing herself from the catalyst she was using where she'd get hp for every particle collected. It was fun to watch. I like building weird/funny team comps in the open world sometimes when I am bored lol.
backflip team sounds so cool omg I love that! I also want to set up a team with Yoimiya (if she comes home ofc :’’)), Thoma, Zhongli and Yun Jin. Because i really want to make use of Thoma and Yoimiya’s normal attacks because their animations are so smooth and pretty!! Actually, come to think of it, Yun Jin and Zhongli’s normal attacks are also amazing and beautiful to watch, so that team really is a dream team for me lol
i think the mindset that any new character has to have the complete set like crazy crit, dmg, er and so so is ridiculous. if every single character is going to be like that, why make new characters? they're not unique anymore and that's just down right stupid. people need to lower their expectations and screw their heads right
Ur right, but it's not players fault. Mihoyo set those expectations by making initial characters who can do everything like Bennet and Xinqiu. Thoma is great in a vacuum but compared to existing 4 stars he is reverse power creep. Why make new 4 stars when it doesn't fit into anyones teams and therefore no one feels any desire to pull because it's just a downgrade most of the time? Other than with hutao when U don't have Zhongli, he's just worse than Bennet or Xinqiu in every way
@@killcount6994 you're not wrong, mihoyo did set that expectation up but one way or another all players will get bennet and xinqiu eventually. but people going into the game expecting that every character has to be perfect is dumb, and I mean new players that have no idea how old characters are like. i personally felt that each character has their niche and fit a certain role, i just cant fathom how anyone can think otherwise. thoma might not have much synergy now, but this game is in it for the long run. there's bound to be new characters that'll work with him other than hu tao and a few characters
@@killcount6994 What Mihoyo could have done to balance Xingqiu Xiangling, and Bennet is to make the newer characters more niche but more powerful. For example. Kujou Sara, They made her damage buff specific to Electro users but what Mihoyo should have done is to make her buffs stronger than Bennett since it's limited to Electro and she can't heal like Bennett. This will make players think if they want Sara with a niche but more powerful buff or stick with Bennett who can give a lesser buff but also can heal. Right now, Bennett is an all around character that works in any team. How can you even top this character. He's literally Archon level when it comes to utility. We don't even need the Pyro Archon at this point.

I’m so heartbroken I didn’t get him. I prefarmed for him and even farmed an Emblem set for him but then then Albedo and Itto showed up so I can’t risk getting Hu Tao anymore. I did 3 ten pulls and got Diona, Sac Bow, and Sac Book -_- I don’t even have Sayu yet either. I’m hoping I get him off banner when I summon for Albedo and Itto but until then, goodbye my house husband. 💔
I feel you, I did 52 pull and I got only Diona. Many Dionas. I have like ...c15 Diona. It appears I'm cursed, whenever she's in rate up in a banner she's the only character I can get. Sigh :( I gave up, I'm waiting for Itto and Gorou now.
Ahh I had the same! I was at a 49 pity, had 80 wishes to splurge since I wanted hu tao and Thoma. Won 50/50 in my first 10 pull but it took another 60 wishes to get a C1 Thoma haha. I already had a c6 diona, but I pulled a tonne of her and sayus so uh, ig there was that too. But I'm very excited to play around with hu tao and Thoma
He works great with Xiao. Xiao's special attack of jumping up and striking down harms him but with Thoma's shield it is perfect. Also makes Xiao sling fire from his attacks which I didn't expect. I paired them with Bennett for healing and Sucrose to round up the enemies. I'm not sure if I necessarily need Thoma though... maybe I could do the same thing with Zhongli or Diona? But maybe their elements might not flow well with the wind & fire thing I am doing with current team. Idk. Building teams is terribly confusing to me.
Then you take up 1 space for Benny. Xiangling burst snapshots so Benny buff is really good for Xiangling. If you put both Thoma and Benny in then you lose 1 slot for an Anemo char like Kazuha/Venti for CC and applying Viridescent debuff for -40% Pyro res.
@@JFrog12 Uh you could put both Thoma and Xiangling together BUT no one will battery them, so you have to pick out one of em that's less ideal with Childe, obviously it's Thoma then put Bennett in to battery Xiangling and the fourth can be VV/crowd control character. Xiangling's burst reacts every swing, Thoma's burst reacts every 3 seconds. You can still partner Thoma with Childe just for husbando reasons, meta wise not suggestible.
@@meltederaser376 together especially with thoma's c4 in theory you should be able to keep both of their energy high especially if you have thoma with er investment and eosf xiangling, not needing to have bennett. He is incredibly useful for most teams so finding ways to work around using him is good

A Childe Vape team for example, Childe Bennett Xiangling Sucrose/Venti Kazuha •Pyro Resonance, Attack Buff, Healing, High energy generation, VV Shred, Crowd Control Vs another variation of a Childe vape comp Childe Thoma Xiangling Sucrose/Venti Kazuha •Pyro Resonance, Both Pyro has high energy cost, without constellation on Thoma the rotation is inconsistent, Strong enough Shield, VV Shred/Crowd Control. Honestly, adding Thoma just to do minimal amount of vape dmg and sufficient shield is not worth compared to adding Bennett which has great energy generation and healing/atk buff for the party. Alright now how is he incredibly useful for most teams, other than Hu Tao? He can't do consistent Pyro application like Xingqiu so no to Reverse Melt and Vaporize. (Example Ayaka and Thoma, she can't reverse melt all of Thoma's Pyro because Ayaka is a fast Cryo applicator, this is the same for Childe) Thoma can work with Hu Tao and Mono Pyro comps since he doesn't ruin reactions.
While Thoma isn’t really a great damage dealer, I personally think he’s one of Mhy’s best work with what they’re currently trying to do with characters, which is giving them potential at a single point and being great at it. It’s a pattern we’ve been seeing they’re trying to do with the Inazuman characters. I mean, shield out then burst and you can get back to your dps right away. And still see your shield get even stronger. Better QoL with constellations without being too broken, but probably very helpful and has great synergy with most teams since it lessens the things you need to think about him. All these done, without him being too OP. I can see a good direction with how they’re creating new characters.

@@nikishiko It's not to lower your spirits, but that damage is only from your Childe + abyss buffs + vaporize, Thoma doesn't boost reactions but he is ok as a shield-bot

If you think about building him to deal some damage here and there, I suggest not. I think it's best to build him with full Hp% as shielder and pyro enabler.

Very late but I just start to build Thoma and so far I like the melt - comb Kaeya + Thoma, they support each other and in this way any of them could be DPS . But yeah I'm using Kaeya more often as a DPS.
One thing I'm sad is that Thoma just confirms that mihoyo won't buff less used characters I mean most of his gameplay can be seen as a Ctrl+c Ctrl+v from xinyan meanwhile she still has lag problems since Day 1 Edit: I forgot to put it earlier but the lag problems of xinyan is that her skill doesn't computate when you hit a enemy with it sometimes making you have to fight with lvl1 shield most of the time
Defense scaling character with physical damage boosting ability and guaranteed crit on burst with c2. At c0 gameplay revolves around hitting multiple for strongest shield and pyro application. Thoma cant apply pyro with ult. Copy paste my ass
@@takeru91 idk this game seems to suffer from reverse powercreep. launch characters are the best as far as 4 star go. mihoyo struggled for 10 months with how op venti was too, they literally had to tailor the whole of inazuma around making him less op so samurai boy seemed better in comparison. thoma brings too little utility to be of much use in the vast majority of teams. he's basically a waste of a slot. he needs a new hydro or cryo (dendro!?) characters to be released to bring out his potential as a reverse xingqiu, but as of now he's trash.

I went hp hp EM, catch, so he does a bit more damage than shieldbot build, less shield strength, and can have powerful reactions since he has regular ICDs. I also think his biggest strength is the shield too but more with the stagger resist rather than damage mitigation.

Me and my sister were soooo lucky, we both got hu tao on our first 3 ten wishes and won the 50/50. We then pulled for homa and with no pity we both got in on our first 10 pull. I also pulled a Jean on the standard banner today!!

Thoma also works really well with Diluc, like Hu Tao his burst won't get in the way of the Xinqiu combo. Give the Mondstadt boys an anemo character for the 4th slot, with 4pc vv, and they'll be doing some pretty solid dmg.
He is perfect for hu tao. C6 tohma +pyro reso is like zhong+ geo resonance too Hu tao+Xq+tohma+sucrose But keqing should benefit as much too Bennet+tohma+keqing + kujousara/sucrose Perma Anti flinch, shielder, pyro resonance. Low pyro reaction. Works well with many normal,charged atk character. Ganyu in melt can works well too. Just normal atk for pyro apply then charge it
I actually farmed artifacts for Hu Tao since previous update stream when she got her rerun announced and stuff. I got 4 very decent pieces of Crimson Witch. My intention to pull for Hu Tao was ceased when Itto and Gorou was presented on Twitter but I wanted Thoma too. I finally got him and a copy (C1) and I lvl him up to 60/70 today, I equipped him with the pieces of CW i farmed for Hutao and gave him Dragonsbane (80/80 R1) and he easily performed very very good Dmg numbers (skills on lvl 5 each) getting done between 8k to 13k per Pyro hit no buff, no food, no resonance. I think he’s pretty awesome character very valuable and very fun to play.
people are calling him trash when they haven't even built, that's the GI community for you, not as broken as xiangling, bennet or xingqiu, which does not mean he is "trash" necessarily.
I lost 50/50 to C1 Jean and didn't get Thoma Sad, but at least I finally get Sayu so it wasn't that bad, and I got Aquila for some reason in standard so imma make physical Jean/Keqing I guess
I use him with childe and raiden and I don't notice his er problem. So I just added atk sands with him, pyro cup and hp for circlet. He's doing fine in applying pyro while childe is on field
Wait i didn't realize how good the first constellation is for Hu Tao, after she gets hit the E cooldown would become 12 seconds instead of 16 and the skill uptime is 9 seconds so really you just need to wait 3 second to use E again.
Honestly, Thoma really feels like a disappointment. But can we be real for a moment? Your view is a bit biased because of the Character you own. From your view and from what i can see Homa/Hutao and definetely c2/3 Raiden for example. You could put those on a 2/2 team and still clear abyss perfectly. Now give it a shot with lower cons/0cons 5 stars and 4 star weapons and you'll notice immediately how much Thoma is of a dead weight. No joke, it's actually sad. So in other words, can we rally justify his slot? The answer is honestly, no...at least it doesn't seem like it. Even at c0 his shield uptime doesn't seem as bad, so c1-c4 will definitely make him feel a lot smoother and even when we compare him to Diona, our other true shielder which really wasn't this bad (like all contrary, 0 dmg output but she really makes up for it with her amazing utility and team flexibility, you CAN justify her slot even tho she's a shield bot -and also a healer to some extent). I love your videos, just wish the tittle and the final thoughts weren't so much of a clickbait. I don't want you to go on full hating because you did point his flaws as a character on the middle part, but even then i don't think you need to sprinkle so much on him to even try and say he's "soso but good". He's definitely disappointing and I really feel sad because I liked Thomas a character overall but uness i start getting 5 star weapons, I can't even justify using him over the usual pyro character.
I share the same sentiment. It's disappointing to see your favorite character not picked for meta OR having a favorite character you can't bring into the Abyss. Well, I did manage to use him in place of Xiangling as a Childe main BUT it was a lot of hard work. Even his shield at c0 feels a bit underwhelming for me, or not really the kind I expected. Mainly, my disappointment comes from his ICD which Xingqiu and Xiangling don't even have. I feel like MiHoYo is careful not to make these new 4-stars as OP as the first few ones. They'd like to keep 4-star characters that work like 5-stars to a minimum.

The inmense loss of DPS of bringing someone like thoma is insane, the youtubers i've been watching saying "he's fine" are dolphins or whales who own c1/2 of 5 stars and 5 star weapons. Obviously if you own these you won't have issues having thoma in your team, but then again you could probably slap in a potato in the team aswell and still finish abyss without noticing any change. Sight, well nothing to do. Doubt we'll ever see any changes or buffs for 4 stars
Imo he is trash, he needs a lot of investment and a team that can generate energy for him. I have Zhongli and I'm not worry, I'm really sad about how dirty they have done to Inazuma characters, except for Kazuha all the supports have big handicaps

i actually have him on a mono pyro team with hu tao xiangling and xingqiu, the 2 supports r both c6 too. works pretty heckin well with tenacity xiangling and noblesse xingqiu

Got Thoma on first 10 pull and put the artifacts that suit him on him and tested him as lvl 1,lvl +80 hillichurls and he wiped them all put along with raidans electric buff and caused chaos...if anyone wants to know which artifacts then it is the one with 35% bonus to shield and dmg bonus with a shield and put the reach weapon on him. He is lvl 50 right now.
I’ve been trying to get Thoma and I got him. It took me like about 8 pulls to get him. I was so happy when I got him because he’s like my most fav character.
I pulled yesterday in the most cursed domain of fire witch. Got Hu Tao on 50/50, got Elegy first as I thought its too optimistic to win her weapon too. Then I spend my glitters and did 10 pull and got staff of Homeless on my first 10x after pity. Got c2 Thoma, c6 my diona, finally got a copy of Sara and Sayu. 10k+ primo budget and 20 fates budget. Now im zero primo, no glitter to exchange but a happy damn Hu Tao haver finally.
His base HP is low for a shielder based on HP, and his ascension stats screams a typical 4 star character that won't get their best one. Why Mihoyo make our boi like this. ^What complainers would say. As a non-Zhongli haver, he is one of the best addition to my team yet. Goodluck for those pulling for him!

(Sad story below) I was with my guaranteed, but pity 0. Well, I didn't want any 4 star character in hutao banner, so I spent Just 40 wishes in Childe banner to get some cons for yanfei and chongyun aaaaand... Tartaglia is being leveled up right now... Then, I thought all my bad luck was gone, and I was next to the weapon banner pity, and I really wanted a homa for my zhong li, spent 20 wishes and do you have a guess? Now I have a fischl with elegia. Low spender btw (genshin stuff is Very expensive in Brazil). almost cried, but I'm an adult...
I'mma just be frank. Thoma is the living embodiment of mediocre (in terms of gameplay). High burst cost for no reason, only really works well with Hu Tao (and he's not even her best partnered shielder), low numbers, and his burst can eat up elemental reactions due to the slow aftershock. If his burst applied Pyro as fast as Xingqiu's swords applied Hydro, then it'd be a completely different story. But as it stands, if you have pretty much any other shielders there isn't much reason to build him other than for his personality.
@@amari7782 well you aren't wrong But many peaple own zhongli or diona I generally don't need shield for abyss because I don't run hu tao or xiao. For those characters maybe Thoma will be good. But it's very dissapointing nonetheless. Thoma could have been an enabler. Now it's permanant xiangling supremacy. The problem with Thoma is diona and Beidou exist. Which is unfortunate and as more shield characters genshin has. More worthless Thoma will be. If he didn't have Icd then he could have been a decent enabler. Which is much better than a shield bot long term
@@Lilliana1 even without icd the issue is that his fire comes out just too slow in general so even as an enabler he’d be ok at it wat he’d really need is for his pyro application to be much stronger. Also in terms of shielding he’s much better than beidou and diona since keep in mind he can keep his shields active indefinitely and diona is pretty bad at applying cryo. I’d have to disagree because it depends on the shields in terms of raw power it’d be hard to beat him out for awhile and all the current shielders are only good at shields and no real enabling either so he’s just fine

NEW Edit: Noblesse Oblige 4-set is decent on him - but at this point you don't need to be told because it's a set that basically works on almost any support. (It's a highly situational set that depends on your team and you usually equip on a character that has best position in rotation to give the boost to everyone) In Hu Tao team - it can be either Thoma/Xingqiu, in Mono Pyro - it's usually Benny.
Edit: Forgot to include Skyward Spine in weapons T_T It's a good alternative if you can't get your hands on Favonius Lance/The Catch.

Yeah, I wish those burst animations were optional. Sometimes they even change the camera angle. I don't like when games do that. (Also I love when the camera bugs and you can see the burst from the angle you were playing, without the cutscene)
If you build him full hp he's basically a second Diona which is great if you don't have Zhongli or want pyro resonance and more pyro particles.

Learned about ICDs today. I'm glad I built Xiangling. That's explains why she works really well with my Childe.
They weren't wrong when they called him a Pyro Xingqiu, since his ICD, burst attack interval, burst energy cost and even the backflip on E lmao. He would be awesome with Cryo Diluc/Hu Tao and I can't wait.
Edit: If anyone says he's not with the reason "he can't make Childe Vaporise every hit", I don't even want to bother arguing with you when you want to correct someone without knowing about Elemental Gauge.
Edit 2: For those who don't want to see me yelling and see someone that actually got things right, look at crest9881's replies, he has proven that Thoma will struggle if a weak Cryo applier applies Cryo too fast, hence he can still enable, but not as good as Xingqiu. I will apologise for overrating Thoma's enabling capabilities, and causing a ruckus, but that and only that. I never once stated that Thoma can Vaporise every hit, and I never said Thoma can enable Childe to Vaporise every hit, because both ideas are fundamentally wrong and shouldn't be an idea in the first place. As you may have already known, Xingqiu loopholes ICD because he has multiple rainswords, Thoma does not because he only burst out 1 rush of flames.
Therefore Xinqiu can apply Hydro very fast which can be vaporized every hit, whilst Thoma can only apply Pyro every 3 seconds(mind you it's a weak application too), you can't melt or vaporize his application consistently because he's the one trying to react.
His damage compared to Xiangling in terms of Vape comps, is vastly underwhelming. He has low burst multipliers and he's trying to do reaction, If you're looking for a meta vape comp just use Xiangling, If you like him enough as a husbando why not? Just don't expect as much damage potential as Xiangling.
@@meltederaser376 You can Melt his Burst consistently, though? Unless someone thought people could use Ayaka to Melt all her attacks. No one should use him to be the trigger, just like how no one uses Xingqiu as the trigger(unless you're a Xinqiu E main). As for enabling Melt, the only problem would be when you trigger Melt with a Strong Cryo attack, which is not what Diluc and Hu Tao, they are weak element appliers, and what Thoma needs in a Cryo on-field DPS for him to be fully utilised. Also, dmg wise, his modifiers are understandably low due to how it's AOE. People argue his damage is lower than Xiangling, which, sure, because she's pretty much broken, but compare that to Xingqiu and as long as he hits more than 3, he outdamages c6 Xingqiu, 2 if not C6 Xingqiu. Sure he has the issue of not replenishing the element affliction as fast as Xingqiu, but with a shield that is tankier than Zhongli(unless against Cryo and Hydro) and AOE, while Cryo on-field DPS won't need to worry about his ICD anyways, I don't see how he's not Pyro Xingqiu.
I was scared Hu Tao would spook me but I was lucky and got Thoma in my first 10 pulls. If he can function as a shield-bot, I will be happy.

People like to use Xingqiu and Bennett as a standard to measure new 4* characters against, but a year ago everyone was crapping on them. They complained you needed constellations to make them good, that Xingqiu's E was too costly, that Bennet didn't heal enough, etc etc. And now they're golden. It's true, they're amazing, but it's a bit unfair to expect new characters to be on pair with characters we spent a year building and studying. Thoma might not be great but I'm sure people will find a way to make him excel at something. Sometimes it takes a new weapon, the right team, the right enemies. This community is way too toxic, trying to shred to pieces every new character that comes out, and for what? Really, what's the reason?
Thoma is god tier to Xiao. I've deleted so many powerful enemies when they're both using their burst. Even before I had Thoma to C6, he's can help Xiao destroy enemies.

I needed more pyro particles. And not gonna lie, i was disappointed when i got thoma. But once i researched about him a bit and built him properly. He worked so well with anemo and hydro characters. Like fr, i was super surprised when he helped me reach 49k crit once. (I’m not op, just started playing recently). Now, he’s constantly replacing zhongli on my team and works so well with hu tao and jean. And his character is so cool too, his attacks are very interesting to use, and a polearm player just comes in handy. He’s so good, don’t judge him by looking at our community, try using him for yourself and oh my, you’ll see his potential. (He is perfect with a battery btw.)

@@andreaplatz_yt4086 For another good option, you could add Yun Jin to that Xiao Thoma team and then flex in whatever healer. Yun Jin offers an attack buff on normals etc on par with Bennett's buff, and is a geo support designed to work with multiple elements.

I'll be honest, when I got thoma I felt him very useless and I felt bad because I love his design BUT I tried him on a monopyro team and I must say that he is amazing there. Bennet, xianling, thoma and kazuha are able to crash enemies easy. super recommended with this team!

I don't see the point of building him with a standard set, no one really expects damage from him due to the low multipliers even with reactions, I think recharge and health is more important for him
i built him the standard way and can hit 44k w his skill. thing is, his shield gets broken from one arrow of a hilichurl. it’s pretty hard balancing him tbh
@@quin2171 i think focusing on his shield is a better choice, his skill's multiplier is slightly higher than one hit from guoba, and has a 15 second cd, he still can deal some damage with reactions, but i think sacrificing his recharge and shield for that tiny bit of damage is kind of a waste of his utility

You might as well put nobelsse or milelith on him so he can buff your DPS more while shielding them. The only build from Gacha I don’t agree with….
one team that I’m building is yoimiya, thoma, xingqiu and diona. I like to call it the backflip team and it’s really entertaining to watch in battle, but alternatively it’s also called the icd pain team.
I once built a team that I liked to call "i refuse to die" - team with Kaeya, Xingqiu, Lisa and Jean. Like they kept healing themselves and Lisa was healing herself from the catalyst she was using where she'd get hp for every particle collected. It was fun to watch. I like building weird/funny team comps in the open world sometimes when I am bored lol.
backflip team sounds so cool omg I love that! I also want to set up a team with Yoimiya (if she comes home ofc :’’)), Thoma, Zhongli and Yun Jin. Because i really want to make use of Thoma and Yoimiya’s normal attacks because their animations are so smooth and pretty!! Actually, come to think of it, Yun Jin and Zhongli’s normal attacks are also amazing and beautiful to watch, so that team really is a dream team for me lol

i think the mindset that any new character has to have the complete set like crazy crit, dmg, er and so so is ridiculous. if every single character is going to be like that, why make new characters? they're not unique anymore and that's just down right stupid. people need to lower their expectations and screw their heads right
Ur right, but it's not players fault. Mihoyo set those expectations by making initial characters who can do everything like Bennet and Xinqiu. Thoma is great in a vacuum but compared to existing 4 stars he is reverse power creep.
Why make new 4 stars when it doesn't fit into anyones teams and therefore no one feels any desire to pull because it's just a downgrade most of the time?
Other than with hutao when U don't have Zhongli, he's just worse than Bennet or Xinqiu in every way
@@killcount6994 you're not wrong, mihoyo did set that expectation up but one way or another all players will get bennet and xinqiu eventually. but people going into the game expecting that every character has to be perfect is dumb, and I mean new players that have no idea how old characters are like. i personally felt that each character has their niche and fit a certain role, i just cant fathom how anyone can think otherwise. thoma might not have much synergy now, but this game is in it for the long run. there's bound to be new characters that'll work with him other than hu tao and a few characters

What Mihoyo could have done to balance Xingqiu Xiangling, and Bennet is to make the newer characters more niche but more powerful. For example. Kujou Sara, They made her damage buff specific to Electro users but what Mihoyo should have done is to make her buffs stronger than Bennett since it's limited to Electro and she can't heal like Bennett. This will make players think if they want Sara with a niche but more powerful buff or stick with Bennett who can give a lesser buff but also can heal. Right now, Bennett is an all around character that works in any team. How can you even top this character. He's literally Archon level when it comes to utility. We don't even need the Pyro Archon at this point.

He works great with Xiao. Xiao's special attack of jumping up and striking down harms him but with Thoma's shield it is perfect. Also makes Xiao sling fire from his attacks which I didn't expect. I paired them with Bennett for healing and Sucrose to round up the enemies.
I'm not sure if I necessarily need Thoma though... maybe I could do the same thing with Zhongli or Diona? But maybe their elements might not flow well with the wind & fire thing I am doing with current team. Idk. Building teams is terribly confusing to me.
You can probably also use him well with xiangling and childe for that juicy shield and energy generation without being intrusive with reactions
Then you take up 1 space for Benny. Xiangling burst snapshots so Benny buff is really good for Xiangling. If you put both Thoma and Benny in then you lose 1 slot for an Anemo char like Kazuha/Venti for CC and applying Viridescent debuff for -40% Pyro res.

@@JFrog12 Uh you could put both Thoma and Xiangling together BUT no one will battery them, so you have to pick out one of em that's less ideal with Childe, obviously it's Thoma then put Bennett in to battery Xiangling and the fourth can be VV/crowd control character.
Xiangling's burst reacts every swing, Thoma's burst reacts every 3 seconds.
You can still partner Thoma with Childe just for husbando reasons, meta wise not suggestible.

He is incredibly useful for most teams so finding ways to work around using him is good

Childe Thoma Xiangling Sucrose/Venti Kazuha
•Pyro Resonance, Both Pyro has high energy cost, without constellation on Thoma the rotation is inconsistent, Strong enough Shield, VV Shred/Crowd Control.
Honestly, adding Thoma just to do minimal amount of vape dmg and sufficient shield is not worth compared to adding Bennett which has great energy generation and healing/atk buff for the party.
Alright now how is he incredibly useful for most teams, other than Hu Tao?
He can't do consistent Pyro application like Xingqiu so no to Reverse Melt and Vaporize. (Example Ayaka and Thoma, she can't reverse melt all of Thoma's Pyro because Ayaka is a fast Cryo applicator, this is the same for Childe)
Thoma can work with Hu Tao and Mono Pyro comps since he doesn't ruin reactions.
While Thoma isn’t really a great damage dealer, I personally think he’s one of Mhy’s best work with what they’re currently trying to do with characters, which is giving them potential at a single point and being great at it. It’s a pattern we’ve been seeing they’re trying to do with the Inazuman characters.
I mean, shield out then burst and you can get back to your dps right away. And still see your shield get even stronger. Better QoL with constellations without being too broken, but probably very helpful and has great synergy with most teams since it lessens the things you need to think about him.
All these done, without him being too OP. I can see a good direction with how they’re creating new characters.

small enemies getting knockback by overload has to be the most annoying thing ever, thats why i dont pair my raiden with hu tao 🤷

I tested his burst in abyss and my Childe did 37k vaporize (highest dmg I ever had) so I think he's gonna be useful :')
@@nikishiko It's not to lower your spirits, but that damage is only from your Childe + abyss buffs + vaporize, Thoma doesn't boost reactions but he is ok as a shield-bot

Dragons Bane is amazing as a f2p weapon mostly for 2 pyros and hydro for Thoma since the passive is pretty good.

If you think about building him to deal some damage here and there, I suggest not. I think it's best to build him with full Hp% as shielder and pyro enabler.

I wish his shield applied pyro to enemies, other than that I have no complaints about him. not everybody needs to be a DPS
Very late but I just start to build Thoma and so far I like the melt - comb Kaeya + Thoma, they support each other and in this way any of them could be DPS . But yeah I'm using Kaeya more often as a DPS.
One thing I'm sad is that Thoma just confirms that mihoyo won't buff less used characters
I mean most of his gameplay can be seen as a Ctrl+c Ctrl+v from xinyan meanwhile she still has lag problems since Day 1
Edit: I forgot to put it earlier but the lag problems of xinyan is that her skill doesn't computate when you hit a enemy with it sometimes making you have to fight with lvl1 shield most of the time
Xinyan has a different role as phys support and burst damage
Defense scaling character with physical damage boosting ability and guaranteed crit on burst with c2. At c0 gameplay revolves around hitting multiple for strongest shield and pyro application. Thoma cant apply pyro with ult. Copy paste my ass

@@takeru91 idk this game seems to suffer from reverse powercreep. launch characters are the best as far as 4 star go. mihoyo struggled for 10 months with how op venti was too, they literally had to tailor the whole of inazuma around making him less op so samurai boy seemed better in comparison.
thoma brings too little utility to be of much use in the vast majority of teams. he's basically a waste of a slot. he needs a new hydro or cryo (dendro!?) characters to be released to bring out his potential as a reverse xingqiu, but as of now he's trash.

His burst shield (Q)generates (E)new shield if u use normal attacks when his (Q) effect is On . Best shielder for Hu Tao . C6 thoma with C0 Hu Tao . On Emblem artifact his Burst is used on Cd even while his Shield is on

I’ve been liking Thoma with elemental mastery. I went hp hp EM, catch, so he does a bit more damage than shieldbot build, less shield strength, and can have powerful reactions since he has regular ICDs. I also think his biggest strength is the shield too but more with the stagger resist rather than damage mitigation.
When I cast his ult, I was imagining he'll say "getsuga tenshouu" 🤣
I needed more pyro particles. And not gonna lie, i was disappointed when i got thoma. But once i researched about him a bit and built him properly. He worked so well with anemo and hydro characters. Like fr, i was super surprised when he helped me reach 49k crit once. (I’m not op, just started playing recently). Now, he’s constantly replacing zhongli on my team and works so well with hu tao and jean. And his character is so cool too, his attacks are very interesting to use, and a polearm player just comes in handy. He’s so good, don’t judge him by looking at our community, try using him for yourself and oh my, you’ll see his potential. (He is perfect with a battery btw.)
since the release of Inazuma Characters i feel like their basic attack recoveries are much smoother and faster than previous characters...
Never expected to even get Thoma but I now have C3 Thoma, in the 40 or so wishes it took to get Hu Tao
Thoma is a very good support to HuTao. Just be wary of xinqiu's hydro swords.
The kitain cross spear works on Thoma pretty well that's what I'm doing and it is working well

Thoma also works really well with Diluc, like Hu Tao his burst won't get in the way of the Xinqiu combo. Give the Mondstadt boys an anemo character for the 4th slot, with 4pc vv, and they'll be doing some pretty solid dmg.
It seems like they're trying to prep up for mono element comps, especially for next patch. New abyss might have that kind of meta

I actually farmed artifacts for Hu Tao since previous update stream when she got her rerun announced and stuff. I got 4 very decent pieces of Crimson Witch. My intention to pull for Hu Tao was ceased when Itto and Gorou was presented on Twitter but I wanted Thoma too. I finally got him and a copy (C1) and I lvl him up to 60/70 today, I equipped him with the pieces of CW i farmed for Hutao and gave him Dragonsbane (80/80 R1) and he easily performed very very good Dmg numbers (skills on lvl 5 each) getting done between 8k to 13k per Pyro hit no buff, no food, no resonance. I think he’s pretty awesome character very valuable and very fun to play.
people are calling him trash when they haven't even built, that's the GI community for you, not as broken as xiangling, bennet or xingqiu, which does not mean he is "trash" necessarily.
I can't help but use Blackcliff Pole on Thoma, for the aesthetic and gonna make him a dps

I use him with childe and raiden and I don't notice his er problem. So I just added atk sands with him, pyro cup and hp for circlet. He's doing fine in applying pyro while childe is on field

Wait i didn't realize how good the first constellation is for Hu Tao, after she gets hit the E cooldown would become 12 seconds instead of 16 and the skill uptime is 9 seconds so really you just need to wait 3 second to use E again.

Honestly, Thoma really feels like a disappointment. But can we be real for a moment? Your view is a bit biased because of the Character you own. From your view and from what i can see Homa/Hutao and definetely c2/3 Raiden for example. You could put those on a 2/2 team and still clear abyss perfectly. Now give it a shot with lower cons/0cons 5 stars and 4 star weapons and you'll notice immediately how much Thoma is of a dead weight. No joke, it's actually sad. So in other words, can we rally justify his slot? The answer is honestly, no...at least it doesn't seem like it. Even at c0 his shield uptime doesn't seem as bad, so c1-c4 will definitely make him feel a lot smoother and even when we compare him to Diona, our other true shielder which really wasn't this bad (like all contrary, 0 dmg output but she really makes up for it with her amazing utility and team flexibility, you CAN justify her slot even tho she's a shield bot -and also a healer to some extent).
I love your videos, just wish the tittle and the final thoughts weren't so much of a clickbait. I don't want you to go on full hating because you did point his flaws as a character on the middle part, but even then i don't think you need to sprinkle so much on him to even try and say he's "soso but good". He's definitely disappointing and I really feel sad because I liked Thomas a character overall but uness i start getting 5 star weapons, I can't even justify using him over the usual pyro character.
Thoma is just a spear xinyan. Also xinyan deals significant burst dmg.
I share the same sentiment. It's disappointing to see your favorite character not picked for meta OR having a favorite character you can't bring into the Abyss. Well, I did manage to use him in place of Xiangling as a Childe main BUT it was a lot of hard work. Even his shield at c0 feels a bit underwhelming for me, or not really the kind I expected. Mainly, my disappointment comes from his ICD which Xingqiu and Xiangling don't even have. I feel like MiHoYo is careful not to make these new 4-stars as OP as the first few ones. They'd like to keep 4-star characters that work like 5-stars to a minimum.

The inmense loss of DPS of bringing someone like thoma is insane, the youtubers i've been watching saying "he's fine" are dolphins or whales who own c1/2 of 5 stars and 5 star weapons. Obviously if you own these you won't have issues having thoma in your team, but then again you could probably slap in a potato in the team aswell and still finish abyss without noticing any change. Sight, well nothing to do. Doubt we'll ever see any changes or buffs for 4 stars
Imo he is trash, he needs a lot of investment and a team that can generate energy for him. I have Zhongli and I'm not worry, I'm really sad about how dirty they have done to Inazuma characters, except for Kazuha all the supports have big handicaps

i actually have him on a mono pyro team with hu tao xiangling and xingqiu, the 2 supports r both c6 too. works pretty heckin well with tenacity xiangling and noblesse xingqiu

i mean it works pretty well for me and i prefer xiangling as a buff support for hu tao rather than secondary damage, thats just me tho lmao

Got Thoma on first 10 pull and put the artifacts that suit him on him and tested him as lvl 1,lvl +80 hillichurls and he wiped them all put along with raidans electric buff and caused chaos...if anyone wants to know which artifacts then it is the one with 35% bonus to shield and dmg bonus with a shield and put the reach weapon on him. He is lvl 50 right now.

I pulled yesterday in the most cursed domain of fire witch. Got Hu Tao on 50/50, got Elegy first as I thought its too optimistic to win her weapon too. Then I spend my glitters and did 10 pull and got staff of Homeless on my first 10x after pity. Got c2 Thoma, c6 my diona, finally got a copy of Sara and Sayu. 10k+ primo budget and 20 fates budget. Now im zero primo, no glitter to exchange but a happy damn Hu Tao haver finally.
His base HP is low for a shielder based on HP, and his ascension stats screams a typical 4 star character that won't get their best one. Why Mihoyo make our boi like this.

I was with my guaranteed, but pity 0. Well, I didn't want any 4 star character in hutao banner, so I spent Just 40 wishes in Childe banner to get some cons for yanfei and chongyun aaaaand... Tartaglia is being leveled up right now... Then, I thought all my bad luck was gone, and I was next to the weapon banner pity, and I really wanted a homa for my zhong li, spent 20 wishes and do you have a guess? Now I have a fischl with elegia. Low spender btw (genshin stuff is Very expensive in Brazil).

never take a risk when you have guaranteed, i pulled tartag with just one 10 pull after losing the 50/50, it's real risky after the 50/50.
I pulled both him hu tao and staff of tohma so I am MORE THAN READY FOR THIS
I'mma just be frank. Thoma is the living embodiment of mediocre (in terms of gameplay). High burst cost for no reason, only really works well with Hu Tao (and he's not even her best partnered shielder), low numbers, and his burst can eat up elemental reactions due to the slow aftershock.
If his burst applied Pyro as fast as Xingqiu's swords applied Hydro, then it'd be a completely different story. But as it stands, if you have pretty much any other shielders there isn't much reason to build him other than for his personality.

@@Lilliana1 even without icd the issue is that his fire comes out just too slow in general so even as an enabler he’d be ok at it wat he’d really need is for his pyro application to be much stronger. Also in terms of shielding he’s much better than beidou and diona since keep in mind he can keep his shields active indefinitely and diona is pretty bad at applying cryo. I’d have to disagree because it depends on the shields in terms of raw power it’d be hard to beat him out for awhile and all the current shielders are only good at shields and no real enabling either so he’s just fine
