  • I test Head's newest string, Head Hawk Power 17 alongside Poly Tour Pro. I talk about how strings work, launch angle, round vs shaped, sweet spot, control, and who this new string might be for.

    1:15 - Head's 17g is 1.25 vs PTP 17 is 1.20. What I meant was it looked & played more like a 16L.

I am not sure many pros play with sharp sided strings. Felix Auger-Aliassime plays RPM Blast rough which is octagonal and coated but not sharp

Yep, not sharp. It's funny how us amateur players want everything the pro's play with, with the exception of sharp strings. I swear it helps me though

Casper Ruud is said to hybrid Poly Tour Spin (shaped) with Poly Tour Pro.

I agree with most of the things you said. Also, try this along with Tecnifibre Razor Code. I think they are indistinguishable.

Nice, I haven't played with many of their polys, just stuck to their multis and triax

If I'm not mistaken, it's supposed to be the main competitor for Luxilon Alu Power on pro level. Ruusuvori and JJ Wolf play with it already (this was stated in a podcast I heard). I've just completed playtesting the Alu Power and I expect delivery of the Head Hawk Power. If the previous statement about the competition and target group is correct, for an intermediate+ level player like me, it's gonna offer 4-6 hours of good playability and then go completely off, like Alu Power did to me. Of course, the first 4 hours will be great. If it's gonna be a consumer friendly string will be defined by the price tag. Alu Power is great for a determined period of time, I would actully pick it over everything for an upcoming match, but for casual practices I'd go with something less expensive and more durable.

Can't wait to hear your experience. Without knowing much about it I wasn't trying to over analyze this one, just wanted to do some solid hitting with it. Thanks for the info

Good to see you back Rob. I'm also playtesting this string as well, have about 4 hours on it and I am really enjoying it. It definitely has a pingy sound for the first hour or so. Just a heads up 17g Head is 1.25 where 1.25 may be 16L for other brands. I know Querrey was using Hyper G before he retired and I believe there are a couple other pro's using it as well but not sure who. I ended up buying a couple more samples of Hawk power from TW so I can try out some hybrids. Some people have been reporting that the playability falls off after about 4 hours which is a bummer, but its basically on par with ALU power for what its worth.

It all makes sense. I guess I meant more like a 16L than a ptp 17. Thinking back, I tired Hawk Touch 18 iirc it was 1.20, seemed much softer than hawk power. Keep me posted I think I need a little more extra spin right now in my mid-life

How would you compare this string to Hawk Touch?

Lorenzo Musetti has lynx touch on mains and lynx tour on crosses, might be interesting to try out

Have you tested Head Lynx Touch? I absolutely love it and switched to it from Tecnifibre ice code. Interested in your thoughts.

I skipped normal Hawk and went straight to Hawk Touch, which I love because it felt so stretchy. Any good?

Tour Bite Soft 18g, I just have to restring before every match to keep control. I just love the comfort of it when in a tournament or important match I am going all out and not worrying about perfect form
