    I am lower advanced player that hits flat with a Head Gravity Pro with Lynx Tour 1.25 at 53/51lbs. I love the Lynx Tour but it's bugging me a little. I feel like I should either slow my stroke to keep the ball in but I want to have a faster stroke. What Head string/tension should I do in either case? If I slow up my stroke I'd need a more powerful string or lower tension. If I want to try to improve by increasing my stroke speed, I'd need a stiffer string or higher tension. Please let me know your thoughts.

    • @tenniswarehouse
      @tenniswarehouse  2 года назад +1

      You could try going up in tension a bit, or possibly try a different string. The Head Hawk or Hawk Touch are pretty control oriented strings from Head. Also, have you considered that the Gravity Pro is a pretty hefty feeling racquet (higher swingweight), so maybe there is something happening there with maneuverability, and being able to control the head of the racquet easily enough to help keep the ball dipping down into the court. Not saying it is the issue for you, never seen you play, but I know that has been an issue for some players when swinging a hefty feeling racquet, especially over a long period of time. Troy, TW

      @@tenniswarehouse It certainly does feel that way as well but I do like it and I wanted it to force me to use better technique. I've considered making it more headlight to ease it a bit for me. Also, could I also switch my tensions up from 51/53 to 53/51? I've tried the Hawk Rough in a Boom Mp before and it was quite nice, so I'm considering the other Hawk variants but I'm not too sure. I quite like the Lynx Tour as well. Thank you so much for your help so far

    • @tenniswarehouse
      @tenniswarehouse  4 года назад

      There are a lot of good racquets out there, and sounds like you are looking for a well rounded racquet based on what you want from it, spin,power,control,feel,speed, comfort. Babolat Pure Aero, and Pure Drive racquets are very popular, but also a little on the stiff side. I'm not quite sure how heavy you want to go with your racquet based on your age, stature, and current racquet you are playing with. Some of the ones I might consider are: Yonex EZONE 98 or 100, Head Graphene 360+ Speed MP, Babolat Pure Aero, or Aero VS (although both a little on the stiff side for comfort), and Prince Textreme Tour 100 (290) or (310) depending on heavy you want to go. You might also consider the Babolat Pure Strike 98 or 100, as they offer a bit more feel, and comfort compared to the Pure Aero. Hope that helps, and maybe let us know which racquet and weight you are currently using so that gives us a gauge of what you're coming from. Troy, TW

    • @tenniswarehouse
      @tenniswarehouse  6 месяцев назад +1

      So typically for beginner to intermediate level a good multifilament string will be the best option. Head Velocity MLT is a very popular option and is a good choice. But you could also possibly consider a hybrid for a bit more spin. Head has a string called Lynx Touch, which would be a good string to use in the mains and Head Velocity in the crosses. Those are a couple options I would consider. Troy, TW

    I have a Babolat Pure Strike 16X19 3rd gen. I'm a regular club player at an intermediate to advanced level. I'm exploring a hybrid string setup to bring out the best in my game. Around my area where I live, we don't have a lot of fancy options but I was able to find Head Challenge Multifilament for the crosses at 50lbs and Head Lynx Edge Polyester for the Mains at 52lbs. How would you rate this setup? And what would be your best pick for me?

    • @tenniswarehouse
      @tenniswarehouse  2 года назад

      Not for sure if we have tried the Head Challenge string, but assuming it is a decent multifilament, it will likely play just fine in a hybrid. Head Lynx Edge is a good string, although I believe Head has now discontinued that one, but most really like the Head Lynx Tour, which could be a good replacement for that one if you run out. Also, if you are willing to try other strings, it might be worth trying a round shaped or smooth poly in the hybrid with a multifilament, to see if you notice a significant difference in the notching or durability of the strings, as the sharp or edged poly sometimes cause extra friction or notching. • @tenniswarehouse
      @tenniswarehouse  7 месяцев назад

      Lynx Tour is a good option but is also pretty firm and low powered, so we would probably go close to 50 pounds with that one. The Head Lynx is a bit softer as well as Hawk Power, both pretty solid options, and likely about 52 to 53 pounds with those. If you want to get more comfort on your arms, the Head Velocity MLT is a good option at about 55 or 56 pounds; however we primarily used poly strings like the Lynx and Hawk series when we were testing the racquet. What do you usually play with and what is your general level of play? Troy, TW

      FXP is technically a multifilament, but plays with more control, being that it has polyester fibers infused in the string. So not as control, and spin-friendly as a co-poly, but a little more control than most multis. Troy, TW

    hello, which string would you recommend for gravity MP and the tension? thank you for your help

    • @tenniswarehouse
      @tenniswarehouse  3 года назад

      The Gravity MP is sort of borderline for the weight that we usually recommend poly strings, but if you want to maximize the control and spin, and maybe are accustomed to using poly strings, then we like the Head Lynx Tour, and would probably string it around 52 pounds. That said if you want a bit more power and feel, a hybrid might be a good choice, for example something like the Wilson Duo Power, maybe around like 54 or 55 pounds. And for the most power, comfort, and feel, you could go with a full bed of multifilament, like Head Reflex, or Velocity MLT. What strings have you used in the past? What's your level of play? Do you break strings often? Do you have a history of tennis elbow or arm problems? These are typical questions to consider when picking a string... Troy, TW

      George S, I strung up 17 g Lynx Tour at 54#’s on my 2018 Pure Drive. This produces quite a firm string bed, but I personally enjoy that. Control and spin is really good at that tension, but feel suffers a little.

    • @tenniswarehouse
      @tenniswarehouse  4 года назад +1

      Lynx Tour is a good one, and we would likely go somewhere around 53 pounds, however it will vary between our playtesters, as I like it at about 48 pounds, some like around 52, and some like it in the mid to upper 50's. So 53 is kind of like our middle ground. Cyclone is one of our favorites as well, a little firmer, and crisper feeling. What type of string have you been using? I haven't experienced so far, any arm problems or tennis elbow and at this moment my desired way of playing is baseline with top spin drives and one-handed backhand. Great video! So just to make sure I heard correctly... a multifilament is going to provide a little more power than a synthetic gut?

    • @tenniswarehouse
      @tenniswarehouse  4 года назад +4

      Correct, multis having all those strands or fibers create a more elastic string providing more energy return to the ball, compared to traditional synthetic gut strings. That said, poly strings are the deadest, or lowest power, however some of the most powerful players, a lot of pro tour players use them, and hit with the most ball speed, as it allows strong players with great technique to swing big with confidence, thus creating more speed. Troy, TW

      @@ericshine1, I see where you are coming from now. Velocity will give more feel, and better tension maintenance, but maybe a little more lively than syn gut. We always like to try and keep the strings soft for growing junior players, but it sounds like maybe a soft poly mixed with a string like Velocity would be a good set-up to try. Some good softer polys that we like are, Volkl V-Star, Kirschbaum Xplosive Speed, and Yonex Poly Tour Pro. You might also drop the tension a couple pounds from his usual syn gut, as you are adding a more controlled poly string into either the mains or crosses. Troy, TW

Even 18 gauge could work well, something in that 1.15-1.20mm range is good. Then again some players prefer a hybrid, as on the pro tour, natural gut main, and poly crosses is very popular. Troy, TW
