Agree, I went with a 16gb / 512 M3 Air though. My iPad M2 Pro was so powerful but the Ipad OS made that power unusable for me even though it ran full Davinci resolve, I almost bought the Yoga with Snapdragon X but seems Windows Arm With Snapdragon X is not fully cooked yet but when it is tine to upgrade My air I will look at these again.
Keep in mind it's a huge difference there if the about 4W power consumption from display (also generate heat) is far away from the chip (alias a laptop and the chip under the keybiard and the display is opened up) or the chip and the display close to each other (alias tablet). That 4W heat lower the avaliable power for the chip too, like the chip only can use 11W for the same 15W heat.. and that is basicly the difference between the rarely throttling and the constantly throttling which is visible in the usage too, while throttling everything a bit slower..
@@TamasKiss-yk4st wouldn’t the same thing apply to the current iPad Pro but worse because it has two OLED screens and no fan while being ridiculously and pointlessly thin?
Ahh, that makes more sense. I didn’t own one myself but I remember the tiles on windows phone having too much information on them causing the phone to be cluttered But in a tablet it probably made more sense since there was more screen real estate
@@YonnyDigital the tile was a nice idea, but you’re right. It was too busy! I just wish they would have kept some of the gestures while on tablet mode. I really enjoyed closing apps from swiping down from the top middle of the screen, using the Split View, etc.
Yea, and some will be emulated until they can get native apps on there. Just wish more was done before launch. But this device will only get better with time!
Seems like developers have been working on porting their apps over. I know that Premiere Pro, which is a must for me, is now supported. I'm not sure how many more apps are now native to windows on arm but maybe that's a video I could make in a month or two. Just to give them enough time to work on stuff
I'm blind, so don't need the screen. I bought this device to have an urtra portable windows experience. Because I don't use the screen, this thing lasts me way over 10 hours while doing stuff on it. In this very unique case, the battery is absolutely to die for
It’s like a Toyota. Kind of ok but is not till you compare it to the nerfed 50 miles per hour Ferrari that is an iPad that it starts to look really good.
Yes, these Snapdragon chips are misleading as battery life is poor when multitasking in high-performance mode to get the fastest results. For example, 4K video uses 14 watts alone compared to 7 in balanced mode. So for power users, battery life is around 5 hours on best performance. On balanced mode, recommended for the average consumer and probably what the vast majority will use, reviews suggest 7-8 hours at mid-brightness. So, the much-advertised battery life is nothing more than marketing. You can use the lowest performance mode, but like balanced, they reduce performance to a point where you will take ages to get anything done, like rendering. It is amazing that in 2024, you do not have one mode to optimise the chip for whatever you are doing, like Macbooks from 2020! My take is a step up from previous WOA attempts; remember, ARM on Windows has been around 8 years longer than on MacOS, but it is still trailing Apple by a long way. Saw a video (Max Tech) comparing the base M1 MB Air with 8GB and no fan versus the Surface Laptop, and it was shocking to see the MB Air match or beat the latest and greatest from MS at half the price!
I agree. I think they have some work to do to catch up to MacBooks but I’m glad there’s competition & I hope they can close the gap more on the lead Apple has. I saw the video comparing the two & was surprised to see the results But it’s at least nice to see them have a fighting chance because we, as consumers, win in the end 😁
Yup lol, but I hope they can get it together ASAP because this could be a win/win for consumers and Microsoft. They have potential to give the users something special & make a whole lotta money. Hoping they can dedicate proper resources to it
@@YonnyDigital they dont have a choice. Cause Microsoft covers so many business contracts with organizations. They have no choice to provide solutions ASAP.
so you want micrsoft to wait for enternity when lot of work is done using browsers. Browsers are working fine and they are much powerful software that are present in Ipad OS and can get lot of things done for so many people
The processor change is no different than when Apple did the same thing. It is up to third party companies to get their programs compatible. It isn't like Microsoft is pulling the rug out from under anyone. Intel and AMD processors are still going into laptops too. In fact Intel is coming out with an upgrade this fall for the 8086 based system.
It does a decent job with Lightroom & light photoshop work. Any other apps, not so great. Drive works as long as it’s on the web ofc. Overall, I was hoping Microsoft would do more for Windows on ARM by this time
Yeah.... these content creators/professionals on RUclips are power users and expect the same towing ability from a Toyota Prius as they do with their Chevy Silverado. 🤦🏾♂️
This thing is gonna replace my iPad. It’ll be nice to have a full uncompromised desktop OS after being stuck on IPadOS for 4 years
Yea, I think it’ll only get better with time too. Would also like to see some competition from other manufacturers making ARM chips
