Maybe you expected it to be more like Dexter? That's a more light-hearted show despite the main character being a serial killer/vigilante. Hannibal on the other hand really goes a lot darker. It's also very psychological at times with conversations that can be taking more ways than one.
Will's warning to Freddie Lounds, while unwise as it backfired on him, was perfectly delivered by Hugh Dancy. He is a great actor. I love the Hannibal character. But he's definitely not the kind of person I want to be alone in a room with. Hannibal is a manipulative bastard. How he played Abigail, putting her a position in which she would be indebted to him, and she sees that while holding her own bit of leverage over him. Mutually assured destruction if either would turn against the other.
4:26 "Does she know?" I think a connection is established at the very least. There are some parallels between his and Abigail's brutally murdered families. Hannibal is feeling her out. Seeing if she might make a good surrogate sister/protégé. I also like the idea of him simply wanting a "Mini-Me". This is his version of an offspring.

Abigail is now nice and dependent on Hannibal. He has effectively made her keep his secret. Also, Hannibal gets more and more hilarious the more I watch it. Seriously, so many cannibal puns, and foreshadowing that gets funnier the more I watch it. :)
He also made the underrated Wonderfalls and wrote some of the episodes of Heroes that were actually good. He's a unique and good writer and showrunner that has never really gotten the mainstream recognition he deserves.
What I really like about this episode is we understand that Hannibal is a monster. He's a known quantity and just reacting to the events that unfolded in front of him and took advantage those events (like his nature). Freddie is a monster for putting the events in motion.
i love this show sm! The next 3(?) episodes are a little slow because it’s building for the latter half of the season. BUT it’s such a good show the way hannibal plays everyone in this series is amazing.
Like someone already said it, next episodes are a little slow but I'd say from episode 6 on things get really interesting and season 2 and 3 are amazing! The first time I watched the show (yes I've seen it many times by now lol) it was a little hard to digest 😅 but it'sso good I couldn't stop watching! I think most of the people that I've seen reacting to the show don't like Freddy because yeah, she's kind of a bitch, but you'll see later on that she's also kinda cool (not so much 😅) And about Hannibal motivations for doing what he does, it's mainly about his entertaining, but later on this season you'll see that everything he does has an end. So yeah, great reaction! Hope you continue watching ✌
I still think that actually worked out in the show's favor. They couldn't use stuff that is considered "adult" such as swearing and nudity, so they had to ramp up the weirdness and pretentiousness (but like, the good kind of pretentiousness). It ends up feeling like a fever dream.
@@ninjatoriumnova2483 There was that one scene later in the show that I guess that the censors did not allow them to show too explicitly, so the show just drowned it in shadow and ended up making it look even more gruesome. And the censors couldn't do anything about it.
