There are no guidelines as such, maybe you will get advice from others, I personally try to understand the philosophers as much as I can. Spending time with the material helps a lot. If you are reading a certain concept or philosopher try to understand the historical background of it. And if you have a knack for philosophy you will automatically create counter-arguments while reading the material. Also, don't read it like a novel or story, its philosophy demands your full attention, and the moment you flicker, you will find yourself confused.

Bro pls tell me your opinion on it and why you decided to make philosophy as career
First of all, you're absolutely right that reading philosophy as a hobby or watching philosophy videos online is very different from studying academic philosophy. The philosophies you're interested in fall under continental philosophy, which is only a small part of academic philosophy. You can explore it as you progress, but don’t pursue philosophy solely because you often think about life. Almost everyone contemplates life, but philosophical thinking is a different approach entirely. Since you mentioned that you’re not interested in your current field, I would suggest exploring what genuinely excites you, and philosophy is a good starting point if that's where your interest lies. If you want to go further, try watching some introductory philosophy lectures and see if you can sit through them without feeling bored. Also, never choose philosophy just because you believe it will help you navigate life. It might help, but that alone isn’t enough reason. I’ve seen people remain just as distracted or clueless after studying philosophy. Remember, philosophy is an academic discipline like any other. You’re right that it might be just a hobby for now. But to understand whether it could be more, you’ll need to explore philosophy deeply. If you pursue philosophy academically, be prepared to study it as a whole, not just the parts that immediately interest you. Keep in mind that, like any other liberal arts subject, philosophy doesn’t have a direct career path. You may need to aim for academia or consider government exams, at least in India. I’m not trying to discourage you; I just don’t want you to dive blindly into something just because of videos or the internet. Explore any subject that interests you, not just philosophy, and then ask yourself if you’re willing to dedicate three years to it without any feeling of regret. I love philosophy from bottom of my heart, everyday 24/7 I breath philosophy, and that's why I didn't care about what future will it bring, the only thing which excites me is philosophy, even tho I'm from a commerce background I still choose philosophy. But I also know that it is not for everyone, me loving philosophy doesn't mean you will too. Maybe it can maybe it won't.
I got my 4th preference because there is only 6 colleges (boys) for philosophy hons. I literally study 2 weeks before the examination... mainly from youtube, 12th books and a third party cuet book (I don't remember the name) that's it.
