My friends were shocked when they would slide in that magnificent sedan. The D2 is stunning. Please build it and bring it into the USA. The times are much different now since 2006. Love this video.

Oh Thomas. Isn't that a beautiful design. I was very fortunate to own 2 VW Phaetons, both from new. The first one was purchased in 2006 and the second in 2010 and I specced it and took delivery at the Glaserne Manufaktur in the wonderful city of Dresden in March 2010.. I am 74 years of age and been lucky enough to own many fine cars. BMW's, Mercedes and Porsches. But nothing that I owned ever came close to my 2 Phaetons. They were a marvel of automotive engineering and far ahead of their time. The build quality was second to none. I completed just over 200,00 miles in both cars , many of thos miles were spent on the autobahns to Deutschland....often in the fast lane ! I reluctantly had to sell my last Phaeton in 2020 as it made financial sense and replaced it with an Audi Q8. The Q8 is a very fine car but it doesn't come close to the ride quality , the comfort and the integrity of engineering that the Phaeton had. If ever VW decided to put a Phaeton MK 2 into production I would be first on the order list. I very much doubt that will happen though with the climate regarding cars....and especially large luxury ones in the D2 segment. One can but dream
@@pickle24 Hi Pickle. Interesting question. My 2 Phaetons were owned over 14 years and both were magnificent. I picked my second one up from the GlaserneManufaktur in Dresden in 2010 and it was to my exact specification. We were one of very dew Brits who did that so it was a special and much loved car. I am in my 70's and do no maintenance myself. Took it back to the Factory each year for servicing. In 2020 the car had completed 120,000 utterly trouble free miles but I suspected that there were some rather large bills on the horizon as it was such a complex car. So I reluctantly decided to get rid. Even then it had no squeaks and rattle and ran beautifully. We cried a bit when we saw it off to a Polish gentleman who planned to drive it to Poland each year to see his family. So, we thought long and hard on what to replace it with. An EV was out of the question as they dont work for me and I am not convinced by the whole EV Schtick. We decided that our priorities were anough power, comfort, a bit of special uniqueness....and above all, build quality. After 14 years with the Phaetons we could not have handled a car that rattled. It really was that special. We thought an A8 woud be the natural successor to the P but on driving some demos and reading some of the websites, A8's have a reputation for poor build. So, being in our 70's we decided to go for an SUV. Never had one before but at our age they seemed to make sense for ease of entry and comfort. After alot of test drives we narrowed it down to a BMW X5 or the Q8. And we plumped for the Q8. We liked the styling, the uniqueness.....there aren't too many around.....the comfort and the decent build quality. We chose the 55TFSI over the 50 TDI as diesel seems to be bad news now. After 23,000 miles and 2 long drives to Deutschland we think we have chosen well. No problems, no squeaks and rattles and very comfortable for big miles. It looks good and we have had a ceramic coat put on it. Also calipers painted black as they look ordinary otherwise . The 340 bhp engine pulls it quite well seeing that the car weighs almost 2 and a half tons. Bit of lag in the gearbox but we think that is an Audi software thing that all owners complain at. If I am being picky I wish now I had chosen the SQ8 for the 500 bhp ....but that might come next time. So, in conclusion , the Q8 is a very fine car. However we dont love it like the Phaeton. The P was a very special car and if VW had decided to go ahead with the D2 we would have been first on the list to have orderd one. I hope this isnt too long and is of interest to you
@@mary-roserussell8097 way more interesting answer, kind sir, thank you! It was lovely reading about your insight, thoughts and decisions. Overall, i think your decision is a fine one, seeing as the audi a8 and s8 reportedly have poor build quality, though the q8 might not be all too far ahead, since it's manufactured by the same company. Also, it being an SUV in itself makes it a little more less comfortable on the road than it could have been. Otherwise it's a great vehicle. More than enough power, all the latest and most useful tech and electronics, very stylish and more unique than others. One good alternative for your phaeton though could have been an S class, have you ever looked into that? Anyway thank you for taking the time to reply.
Phaeton is the most underrated luxury car. Drove it a lot as rental, much better than S-class and BMW 750 (never drove an A8 sadly). Almost bought one 7 years ago. You can get a used one for anywhere between 4000 (V6 first gen) to 20000 (V12 second gen, little mileage) which is a bargain. If you know that service costs are high and can afford those, it's a no brainer.
This would be a stunning car to buy nowadays, due to the huge devaluation that it would suffer. That said the D2 looks amazingly fresh despite its 8 year old design. As usual the flagships get the novelties years ahead of the most common models. Great video as usual guys!
Phenomenal car, especially taking into account the year in which it was put together as a concept. Thank you Thomas for presenting to us such unique gems!
It’s sad that circumstances didn’t allow the Phaeton D2 to go into production, there is so much care and attention to detail in the design - the interior and exterior design still looks so fresh after 8 years under covers … the only element that I would exclude from production is the capacitive touch buttons, they’ll never catch on in popularity 😬😆 I would replace all capacitive touch buttons and touch screen controls with tactile buttons and switches, this would mean you don’t have to take your eyes off the road to adjust temperature or volume, or adaptive cruise control 😊✌️ Thank you Klaus Zyciora and VW for sharing this vehicle with the public, and thank you Thomas for another excellent edition of Autogefühl 🙌
You wouldnt buy it, considering even how the 4 cyl Arteon R is around 55000 usd and nobody bought it because it was too expensive, this would be over a 80 thousand "for a VW"
I have always thought VW is a phenomenal company with stunning designs. I bought 3 new VW's over about 10 years. A 2012 CC, a 2017 Tiguan, and a 2019 Golf Alltrack (manual). I loved them all, but ended up recently buying a Volvo as they were more in line with the design I like. Something graceful with an edge. I want to get back into a VW, but the capacitive touch buttons give me pause as does the current styling (Mk8 Golf and ID4). - Greeting from the US
It's great to see a VW with a quality interior. I would like to see better interior finish options available on other models too. Exterior looks better than the Audi A 8 to me.
I think the Volkswagen Phaeton would be an amazing fully electric vehicle. I truly hope that Volkswagon will revisit this project and produce a second edition of the Volkswagen Phaeton.
Excellent video, Thomas! Love this Phaeton D2 and equally sad it never made it into production. Great interview with the salient question about capacitive buttons. I totally agree with you on this subject, Thomas.
The VW Group has a wealth of talent with proven engineering backgrounds who have moved upward into senior management. You can tell by his deportment Mr. Zyciora shows humility and passion for the work he does for the company. The decision to cancel the Phaeton was the right decision despite the investment in the next generation product.
I love that this channel gets to interview the guys behind these vehicles. I am so curious about their reasons for their design decisions (for example capacitive buttons etc).
Fantastic car, since an early age I was fascinated by the Phaeton and the materials used on the inside, the craftsmanship is top notch. For me, It has to do something that you have a VW badge and modest design outside but whenever you open the door you are delighted with the finest materials, I just think that its cool to be able to have a luxury VW car that is very subtle and yet can compete with an A8 or a Continental GT. So sad that they ditch the car!
That is honestly so gorgeous. I wish i could be a reason VW might produce it but i don’t think id ever be able to afford such a machine. This is better looking than ANY of those other cars he mentioned. The A8 used to be timeless and beautiful but they have lost it somehow in recent years. it just is not the golden rectangle it used to be (so to speak). This car is WOW.
This still looks like 2022 imo. Anyone else looking at this will think it’s 2022 no matter what you will try to say. Modern cars are no different much to cars back from 50s with curved bodies and more tech. I actually thought it was 2022 xd. Still looks good and something enjoyable to look at..no arguing here. Just looks so timeless forever. Only now know it was from 2014. Still exists! Cheers VW! Chinese will love this. Now we know Phideon sells incredibly well in China, this could sell very well, bishop of Shanghai also in Macau drove in one of the Phaetons down the road really looked elegant.
I don't agree. The design on the outside, especially the front, looks kind of dated and the materials used in the interior are also not up to date anymore. The car only looks new because nobody had seen it but it's appearance is certainly not " fresh " ...
@@rel6294 Don't get your point. Yes, because it is from 2014 it looks dated now. But the post I was answering to said, that it still looks totally modern like it is from 2022 ...
It is a visionary car, nothing more to say. The design is still remarkable after almost a decade. As a loyal Volkswagen customer, I will consider it if it comes back on the market.
Very good interview. You asked all the right questions and Klaus answered the questions clearly and intelligently. This Phaeton project has benefited VW and all of their other brands. They developed a lot of practical technology that is being used across the company. Thanks
Looks really great. You can see both A8 and Passat B8 in this. I think the design looks timeless. I did not think this concept was from 2014. Thank you Thomas for showing us this brilliant car!
Gorgeous sedan. The problem is that it steps on the Audi's demographic and has a VW badge that made it sales-proof. If they brought it out as the Phaeton with no VW association, they would have a better chance of success.
It depends. In another case, arguably more people prefer the name "Honda NSX" to "Acura NSX". The VW badge appeals to a set of people who want their luxury subtle.
Personally if I was in the market for a luxury sedan I would happily have bought a VW, just to remain as anonymous as possible in such a large luxurious car. That was the appeal of the original too - discreet luxury.
@@Zenvo-uu9tm Have you looked at the grilles of the 2022 Audi A8, 2022 Mercedes S-Class and 2022 BMW 7-Series? What are you even talking about If anything this grille isnt chromey enough for 2022
actually, the best thing about the original vw phaeton was, that it had the highest depreciation of any car on the market (mostly because of the brand, which wasn’t associated with luxury cars), around 70% after three years. so you could get a top notch S class level limousine for real cheap on the second hand market ;)
@@kam_iko yes that's true, if only someone bought them in my market. I have seen more W12 Touaregs and V12 TDI Q7 than I've seen Phaetons in the last 5 years for sale. :(
Its amazing to me how many people constantly complain about sedans merely for their entry/exit height. I really feel like the Audi A8 that raises to greet you upon entry is one of the least marketed "features" that could really make a difference if people just knew about it. I absolutely love the phaeton and large sophisticated sedans. Honestly I wish someone would market a true 6 door rather than a 7 seat SUV like a Cadillac. People almost never use the off road features but I believe they buy them just for the seat height.
I dont see anything wrong with sedans. I am 187 cm tall and can comfortly exit and enter sedan. as a matter of fact I own small hatchback kia rio and i do not understand whats all the fuss about the stupid SUVs, If you want space and height then might as well buy a bus or a truck... people ridicoulous nowadays.
Agreed, it must be the ride height because it can’t be styling or driving dynamics. My A6 has some work being done on it and I’ve had a Q7 for the last week and it’s objectively worse in every way. The road feel through the steering wheel is worse, the ride over uneven road surfaces is wayy worse and jiggly, it’s much more jarring over pot holes, it’s slower, it gets around 10mpg worse around the city, it’s not even remotely fun on B roads, the extra height dose not give you that much more visibility, and I could go on. The ONLY redeeming feature is the ride height is nice for entry and exit.
The secret is that people only use that excuse to rationalize for themselves why they are buying an SUV. The biggest reason: Everyone else is doing it. The biggest driving force when people choose a vehicle is what they perceive will make them more accepted by society and their peers. And before that it was that the celebrities did it. Many also buy SUVs because they subconsciously want a vehicle that can do anything. An SUV is also bigger and make people feel safer and like they get more car for their money. Especially insecure people with complexes love the feeling that SUVs give them. Ease of entry/exit has already been addressed with old-people cars like the Mercedes B-class and the BMW 2 series active tourer.
@@jimj2683 That has to be it but I think where I am in the US most people with complexes drive trucks (or Jeep like “manly SUVs”) lol. With that being said, we don’t really have cars like the B class or the 2 Active here so we don’t really have anything besides SUVs for old/reduced mobility people. The closest (and I think only) vehicle we have similar would be the Subaru Crosstrek which I believe is called the XC in Europe.
Really wish they would make something like that again. I owned an ‘05 V8 Phaeton. I had the car for 5 years. The most amazing car I have ever owned. I still really miss it.

What an elegant and stylish ageless classic design.Looks far better than the A8. The interior was far in advance of its time and still looks great by todays standards. They did a fantastic job, such a shame it wasn’t put into production
As a VW Gal, I once saw a Phaeton, and followed them home, just so I could take a look at their car. They were amazed that I knew what it was, and happily showed me their car. VW Forever!
Things like this make me wish Dieselgate never happened because this looks modern even today!!! How can VW make something this timeless?! This is astounding!!! Would I have this over a Lexus LS600h? Absolutely. Would I have it over an Audi A8? Quite possibly.
If I could be totally honest, I think it’s better looking than the S Class, 7 Series, and yes, even the A8. The horizontal lines, angles, and specifically that C Pillar are beautiful!
Its design, subtle elegance, precision, attention to details and raw power is the perfect and rare mix of essentials. Its a no brainer for me, and im disappointed that we will never see this beautiful beast on the roads (and in the garage).
I still own a 2004 Phaeton V8 and believe it was a vehicle decades ahead of its time. VW should reintroduce this car in gas/hybrid or all electric models.
Definitely should I would hope they would bring the Phaeton back very unappreciated vehicle I always liked the Phaeton people didn't even know it was a Bentley with the VW badge and was also built on the same assembly line with the Bentley continental gt and flying spur.
I love the first gen of the Pheaton just the same I love the first gen of the Touareg! Those first gen vehicles were like a bomb, so good and spacial in their category that the second trial just lost it!
I hope that the luxury car (Phaeton) will be reproduced, it has a beautiful past, in the past I used to look at the Volkswagen logo as a classy sign because of this car, as well as the Touareg.
I've seen one on the road here in the UK. Before the Arteon was released. I assumed that the Arteon replaced it, but looking at this particular one, it's not in the same class! beautiful and very luxurious looking.
As an owner of many VW’s, I wish VW would listen to their customers and give them products they want. We want diesels in the USA, they can sell all they can make. I like the Touareg’s from Europe and the Phaeton. I currently own 2 VW’s including a 2016 VW Touareg TDI.
Yes please ,put it in production ,I think it will be able to make a lot of people happy , and the market will have 1 more good car to pick for VW fans!
At first, I thought this was a 2023 model. Looks a LOT better than it’s sibling the A8 and also a lot better than the current BMW 7-series. It is sad that this beauty never made it to production!
I am a hugee fan of VW Phaeton, i had the opportunity to drive the w12 , a fantastic car , please produce again this car and i would be one of your customers again :)
I can't believe it had a virtual cockpit 8 years ago. That screen too looks very 2020 ish atleast. Amazing design. If it had ambient lighting. No one would have thought of it to be 8 years old.
I' m a VW fan and I look forward to seeing many _VW Phaeton D2s_ everywhere on streets, roads and highways in the near future, and of course, me at the wheel of one of them.
With the exception of the steering wheel styling, I would go so far as to say that the interior of this Phaeton is 10 steps ahead of even the Audi A8. Not quite a rolls or a bentley but astonishing for a Volkswagen.
If they put this car in production now I’d still buy it even knowing it was designed 8 years ago cause the tech in the car is still futuristic and beyond current!
I would love to see these on the roads, I daily drive the first gen V10 TDI vier-sitzer and I love it. This looks a lot better and more classic and classy than the A8.
Wow, this car is so beautiful! I'm normally not so big on chrome on a modern car, typically I prefer S-line trim, but the black and chrome on this one really looks fantastic! This is possibly the best looking car I've ever seen. I feel so disappointed it didn't come out in 2014. It would be affordable today and I would have bought one for sure.
classy and timeless design! Glad to see the VW Group Design head acknowledge the customer unhappiness and open the door to a u-turn. latest gen interior is like a tablet/laptop: good to operate when the vehicle is stationary, but rather stressful and distracting when the vehicle is moving.
Very interesting and honest responses from a designer at this level. Quite rare. Usually a lot of question dodging. Make another phaeton so that in 15 years I can buy one for 3,000 and pretend I'm rich! Lol
Volkswagen is an iconic brand I hope their electric cars will help put them back on top ,their latter products have got a lot better but still not as good as they once were.
AMAZING concept. A mix of Audi A8 and Touareg ... could be produce it. It's very elegant and actually in all details ... the impression of Elegance and Tech its impressive. Great job VW.
Really enjoyed this and love that you got to interview Klaus and ask some of the questions we’ve all been wondering about! Definitely would love to see capacitive buttons removed and climate controls returned to real buttons and dials. But if they do choose to continue with everything in the infotainment system, maybe out source to a more specialised software company and consider at the very least backlighting the climate controls
From the interview you can see they are way too invested in using touch screens and a new design for a Phaeton would not include a steering wheel. They keep making this mobile phones / tablets with some seats, a motor and wheels around it and people think that luxury is a 18" screen on your centre console. Every electric car from VW is like this now, a screen stuck on the console, capacitive button bs on the steering wheel and that's it. Terrible ergonomics inspired by smartphones.
I’m so sad about this car being cancelled 😭 especially since it would have had the W12. I wish Piëch insisted it was produced despite dieselgate, it would have been his final send off 😔
I saw maybe 2 phaetons in person, ever. great car but people will always go for the more prestigious brand while cross shopping at the same price point.
@@thejake8099 they have century and LS, but not many will buy them compared to the S class. So the only reason of having them is to show you are capable of producing them, not really to make money from it (but again if you can make luxury vehicles it might help level up your brand and help with sales, so who knows which is better :)
No wonder B7 passat look so good. Liked it first time I saw it. The hood, eye lash on light, side chrome trim, grill all from phaeton. Had it for 5 years still looks new.
I think it was the right decision of VW not to continue with the D2. It would have sold well in Asia ( China ), but not so well in the rest of the world. That said; I really like the car and i'm glad we got to see it. Thank you Autogefühl for this video. Your channel is awesome, like always.

I really hope this comes out as an e-vehicle in the future. This is incredibly well-designed. Echoing the consensus that this looks brand new today!
Очень очень жаль Phaeton !😢
Phenomenal car, especially taking into account the year in which it was put together as a concept.
Thank you Thomas for presenting to us such unique gems!
in your service !
The disappointment from the head of design was palpable. He really wanted this to go through.
Beautiful car. The Phaeton never came to my country (South Africa) so if VW does bring it back, hopefully it makes its way down south.
It’s sad that circumstances didn’t allow the Phaeton D2 to go into production, there is so much care and attention to detail in the design - the interior and exterior design still looks so fresh after 8 years under covers … the only element that I would exclude from production is the capacitive touch buttons, they’ll never catch on in popularity 😬😆 I would replace all capacitive touch buttons and touch screen controls with tactile buttons and switches, this would mean you don’t have to take your eyes off the road to adjust temperature or volume, or adaptive cruise control 😊✌️
Thank you Klaus Zyciora and VW for sharing this vehicle with the public, and thank you Thomas for another excellent edition of Autogefühl 🙌
Looks great and wish they made it.
Now, I don't it should've been released, because it would undermine the mad genius of the original...
You wouldnt buy it, considering even how the 4 cyl Arteon R is around 55000 usd and nobody bought it because it was too expensive, this would be over a 80 thousand "for a VW"
Back în the day, the Phaeton was misunderstood, now, as more and more people drive one, they simply fell in love (me included).Best drive quality.
- Greeting from the US
What a beautiful car! It shows what the designers had in mind. So far ahead of its time to still look current 8 years later.
It's great to see a VW with a quality interior. I would like to see better interior finish options available on other models too. Exterior looks better than the Audi A 8 to me.
the previous phaeton had actually better quality overall than the A8 and 7 series:)
Phaeton гораздо лучше чем A8! Как жаль что его больше нет
Vw have good quality interiors in his class
1000% agree; this is WAYYYY better looking than the current gen A8
also interior looks better than a8
I think the Volkswagen Phaeton would be an amazing fully electric vehicle.
I am so curious about their reasons for their design decisions (for example capacitive buttons etc).
unforutnately the guy didn't really anzwer why. my guezz for capacitive buttonz iz that they are CHEAPER to make. a [bad] cozt-cutting decizion.
Thank you so much for VW for bringing back the Phaeton and huge thanks for you Her Thomas Majchrzak for making such exquisite in-depth car reviews.
Absolutely beautiful design I would definitely buy it one day they should release it with an electric motor hybrid car come on vw
@@mart_en Still looks quite modern on the front imo than many other limos. 😊
@@mart_en yeah it looks dated and not up-to-date because its a 2014 concept car??????, but still looks good.
@@rel6294 Don't get your point. Yes, because it is from 2014 it looks dated now.
But the post I was answering to said, that it still looks totally modern like it is from 2022 ...
Он же в 2016 должен был быть вроде представлен
It is a visionary car, nothing more to say. The design is still remarkable after almost a decade.
As a loyal Volkswagen customer, I will consider it if it comes back on the market.
Why wont you buy Arteon then? Too expensive for your taste? This would be double that money, at least.
👍
Gorgeous sedan. The problem is that it steps on the Audi's demographic and has a VW badge that made it sales-proof. If they brought it out as the Phaeton with no VW association, they would have a better chance of success.
Exactly. They should have created a separate division like Toyota did with Lexus, but then you end up with a direct competitor to Audi. Dumb.
It depends. In another case, arguably more people prefer the name "Honda NSX" to "Acura NSX". The VW badge appeals to a set of people who want their luxury subtle.
@@dannyz955 Acura is North American-only badge...even in China, Acura is gone...
So..Honda brand still stand alone for rest of the world...
Personally if I was in the market for a luxury sedan I would happily have bought a VW, just to remain as anonymous as possible in such a large luxurious car. That was the appeal of the original too - discreet luxury.
Phaeton should be it's own brand.
To me, this is the best car from exterior, it is almost perfect in form, perfect in any views
What a shame that VW cancelled this car. I would buy it today without hesitation. So classy.
I cant believe its from *2014*
*WOW*
It can literally still be a concept car for 2022
A 2022 concept ?, with this front grille and chrome histeria ? In 2022 where car manufacturers are heading toward tech ev designs? ... No thanks
@@Zenvo-uu9tm
Have you looked at the grilles of the 2022 Audi A8, 2022 Mercedes S-Class and 2022 BMW 7-Series?
What are you even talking about
If anything this grille isnt chromey enough for 2022
Not that I could have afforded it so my opinion is mostly irrelevant but I LOVE that. Looks fantastic.
actually, the best thing about the original vw phaeton was, that it had the highest depreciation of any car on the market (mostly because of the brand, which wasn’t associated with luxury cars), around 70% after three years.
so you could get a top notch S class level limousine for real cheap on the second hand market ;)
@@kam_iko yes that's true, if only someone bought them in my market. I have seen more W12 Touaregs and V12 TDI Q7 than I've seen Phaetons in the last 5 years for sale. :(
This is a beautiful sedan and I wish they would put it into production!
Absolutely beautiful car. VW should bring this car to market.
I'd buy it. Looks stunning an timeless, an less "in your face" than an Audi.
@@jimj2683 I really don't think the average buyer thinks about what others think as much as that. They only care what they think.
Having owned both the first phaeton and currently owning a facelift one, I would love to continue the tradition! Amazing car! Please bring it back
Someone please make Volkswagen put this beautiful car back in production

Die müssen den auf den Markt bringen! So schönes Design wow
If it were priced like the old model, I’d buy it straight away. Nice evolution of the design.
It's a shame that this car won't come to production its really beautiful and luxurious . This was Ferdinand Pierch's dream
Volkswagen please just make it now it’s gotten so much positive feedback from the public
I love that VW is a premium car manufacturer, the subdued and nonchalant image with Mercedes or BMW luxury is exactly what I want.
Had they released it in 2014-15, it would’ve canibilized A8 sales
I still own a 2004 Phaeton V8 and believe it was a vehicle decades ahead of its time. VW should reintroduce this car in gas/hybrid or all electric models.
Definitely should I would hope they would bring the Phaeton back very unappreciated vehicle I always liked the Phaeton people didn't even know it was a Bentley with the VW badge and was also built on the same assembly line with the Bentley continental gt and flying spur.
@@shadowthahedgehog33 It is more like the other way :D Bentley is a rebadged VW Group D2 platform car :P
Ganz ehrlich, dieser Phaeton sieht sehr schön aus! Schade, dass dieses Modell abgesetzt wurde.
I love the first gen of the Pheaton just the same I love the first gen of the Touareg!
Those first gen vehicles were like a bomb, so good and spacial in their category that the second trial just lost it!
Thanks Thomas and Klaus for the insight 🙌
Absolutely love the C pillar . Fabulous looking car , frint end maybe needs an update but don't change anything else.
Agree 100%.
I hope that the luxury car (Phaeton) will be reproduced, it has a beautiful past, in the past I used to look at the Volkswagen logo as a classy sign because of this car, as well as the Touareg.
Most beautiful sedan I’ve ever seen in my life.
Absolut an beauty! Such a shame VW axed it! This car was really an opportunity for VW, hope they bring a similar car in the future
They should have produced it. Looks much better than the current Audi A8.
This is an outstanding luxury car. IT MUST BE PRODUCTIVE.
Yes please ,put it in production ,I think it will be able to make a lot of people happy , and the market will have 1 more good car to pick for VW fans!
They should put that car into production. It looks way better than most sedans on the road today.
any return of the phaeton would be a win!
Yes, yes and yes! This new Phaeton is for all day every YEAR!!
If it’s as over-engineered as the original it would make excellent addition to the luxury segment.
We owned a 2006 Phaeton. Would love to have one with modern electronics. My favorite car ever.
I' m a VW fan and I look forward to seeing many _VW Phaeton D2s_ everywhere on streets, roads and highways in the near future, and of course, me at the wheel of one of them.
Well it looks very nice. So glad u showed us
With the exception of the steering wheel styling, I would go so far as to say that the interior of this Phaeton is 10 steps ahead of even the Audi A8.
Not big on the grille, but otherwise it is absolutely beautiful. Still looks very modern as well!
Amazing, the facia looks far more luxurious than that of the A8
Definitely not
Very interesting and honest responses from a designer at this level. Quite rare. Usually a lot of question dodging. Make another phaeton so that in 15 years I can buy one for 3,000 and pretend I'm rich! Lol
Yes VW bring back this "smart person's" luxury sedan. Phaeton gives us the luxury and comfort we want without the splash. I love it.
This car has aged like fine wine.
Volkswagen is an iconic brand I hope their electric cars will help put them back on top ,their latter products have got a lot better but still not as good as they once were.
Beautiful car, great review 👌.
Dream car. Never wanted a car more than this one. Just incredible.
Hope they will not repeat the mistake by pricing it close to S class, 7 series or A8..🤕🤕🤕
They definitely won't be, because it's been cancelled.
It looks better inside and out and the new S class. Elegant, majestic, and distinctive. The wood accents are beautiful
I saw one at the Natural History Museum...🤣😂
@VOREVOX why are they cowards? I think vw is to blame for developing a car that it couldn't sell.
Indeed. The Phaeton demonstrate that brand perception has a lot to do with our purchasing decisions, sometimes way more than actual facts.
People would have bought the A8 instead.
Toyota can sell the Century and Lexus LS, why can't VW have the Phaeton?
@@thejake8099 they have century and LS, but not many will buy them compared to the S class. So the only reason of having them is to show you are capable of producing them, not really to make money from it (but again if you can make luxury vehicles it might help level up your brand and help with sales, so who knows which is better :)
