I understand that it's personal preference, and some of the custom design features are definitely better, and I prefer the ucs, but I find it weird when some lego fans don't like seeing studs showing, because that makes it look more like lego rather than a moulded AT-AT toy.
It definitely is a preference. I'm not opposed to studs in general, but in the case of the UCS set it is mostly the imbalance. Some areas have almost none and other areas have a ton. The official set is still fantastic regardless.
yeah I like studs showing a bit because it kinda gives it more detail. When people complelty get rid of all the visable studs in a build it makes it look weird to me. like the MOC looked too smooth to me in the video.
Im definitely one who doesn't like studs. It just looks cleaner, and even greebling looks better than the studs. Just maybe the way they stick out in the same way makes it look very unnatural.
@mreggs3731 but I like Lego. If you dont the government, how about you just form your own country. If you don't like this game, just design your own game. If you dont like youtube, just make your own social media platform.
I have my AT-AT on display with bent legs and it just looks great and there is no sign of it collapsing. I think the straight legs look weird so i really prefer thicker but bending legs.
You can definitely tell the differences in the legs! I prefer the UCS’s interior, but I love the custom’s way of looking like an actual AT-AT without too much horrendous studs
The interior on the UCS is far superior and the look of the legs on the custom one are a lot better, though unfortunately they don't have any posability.
The set does have a better head overall, the guns in particular. I'm kind of torn between the body of the two, but overall I think I like the custom one better. The interior on the set is by far superior to the custom one.
I’ve made a few large MOCs and I will say it’s a huge task to inventory and sort the pieces. UCS having the bags ready to go way more convenient. Those MOC legs are a clear win though!
i prefer the set but thats just because i feel like it looks more accurate (other than more studs, but i prefer more studs so its easier to see its lego) but both look great. also cheaper for the set so its my overall pick. dont get me wrong, the custom one is great to. just my opinion
You certainly could, though it would take a bit of work. There are very large tires in the feet of the custom version, which really helps keep it stable and not slide even a bit.
It would take extensive redesigning. The attachment designs are completely different, so you would need to completely overhaul the hips sections. The length and size of them would work well though.
Ohhh…full interior is the deal breaker for me. If it’s minifig scale and comes with all those minifigs, I want it to look great BUT have the opportunity to create many different scenes with those minifigs in it. Feels like a mini MBS play set or modular within a UCS set. Not sure I like it without the leg articulation also. If I were to create the MOC, I would just have it stand straight up only instead of at the walking angle. Regardless its a great MOC.
I will never understand why a lot of Lego designers hate interiors. I love interiors on Lego builds because it adds so much to it. To each their own, i guess
It does add a lot, but I've had the UCS Falcon sinced it launched (2017), and it has been 6 years since I've opened it up to look at the interior. It isn't that interiors are not cool, they just don't add much value for me. The builds just sit on display. But as you said to each their own, for some people interiors are very important.
Love those thinner legs especially that front look on the custom. But here's the thing...the Lego official is $850 now roughly. But if Lego had it at $1500- like the custom, it would first be in the 12,000 piece range, it'd then be bigger, more detailed, better stability, better way for the panels to be secured, less gaps, more minifigs, etc., better in every single way compared to the custom.
I bought the UC lego walker and the legs collapsed on me and the structure broke. I had the legs slightly angled as instructed too. I was on the last box too! I was so upset and angry too. In my opinion there’s nothing locking the legs in place so I told them you gotta add something to help the gears lock into place. Due to the weight, I think it turned the gears in the legs, even when the legs are angled
That's what happened to me but I was on the page where u are building the top panels then i moved it to make room then the two front legs went and it fell but it did look cool when it fell but a part off me did die
@@johnturcsik2906 You sure? You're the only person I've heard complaining about the set collapsing. I own the set. I finished it a few days ago which is why I took long to respond. From the hour or so I spent "playing" with it it seems incredibly sturdy to me, especially for a model that size. I mean Lego couldn't even make this set for a while as they couldn't make the legs strong enough to support the body and head. So it must have been made strong enough or else it wouldn't have been created and sold yet.
I bought the UCS because its very difficult to collect the pleases to build the custom!, i personally think that the UCS is almost 100% accrete to the ATAT on Star wars, I think the UCS if far better for that fact!
Brick Vault estimates somewhere around $1,500 for the custom version. I was able to everything for $700. (I skipped the lights/battery pack.) The final price is greatly impacted by how many pieces you already have.
The heavy blasters stick out too much on the custom. I do like the profile of the official better, but there’s no denying straight on the custom looks so much better with the skinnier legs.
@@annstevens6223 Yes, they each have there strength and weaknesses. Fortunately with LEGO you can go back and make changes to get stuff closer to how you like it.
What are you on about? The instructions for the LEGO set don’t specify not to have the legs bent, it just shows not to go to massive extremes with them. You can have it in a walking position without issue.
They have three examples for the leg positions. There is an extremely mild bent position that is approved, but the moderate (still realistically) bent legs are not approved and of course the comically over bent legs are also not approved.
Oh I am obviously well aware of why there is a height difference. I was just saying how much there was. If the legs were straight on the Brick Vault version I'd expect that one to end up being 1 or 2 bricks taller than the set.
Personally I love LEGO and have no interest in Bandai kits. I don't inherently feel like studs are ugly, it depends on how how they are used. My main issue with the LEGO set is they were very inconsistent on when and how they used the studs. Some parts had a lot of studs, and some areas had very little and the inconsistency is the main issue. Studs can be used intentionally and look great, but on this set for me they most of the studs felt haphazard and distracted from the overall look.
@@BrickNinja still sound like you should buy Bandai.... They look better, more consistent and incredible models, give one a try, I bet you love it. And they are a little cheaper.
Whats the point of lego if you want something so accurate… its lego, not an action figure realistic toy. If you want realism idk why go for lego? Just ruins the whole point
@@CaptainGrat75 To each their own. I find it really fascinating and interesting to try to see how accurate and intricate you can get details and shaping with the none dedicated pieces of LEGO. I prefer the UCS LEGO Set because once it's retired, it will double in price to where the MOC version will always stay within the same price range... I also don't mind the studs showing on the UCS set at all. That's what identifies that' it's a true LEGO Set...
I will always make a choice based off of what I prefer, not based off of what I think will be more valuable in the hypothetical future where I possibly may want to sell it.
looks better with the studs. Thats what lego is. Thats my personal preference. If you want a smoother version, why not buy a full hasbro plastic prebuilt verson.
LEGO both has studs and doesn't have studs. Some people prefer seeing more studs and some people prefer seeing less, but they are both equally LEGO. My personal preference is generally (though not always) to see fewer. I have no interest in just a model of an AT-AT, I specifically want a LEGO AT-AT. LEGO can do both a smooth build and a studded build so there is no reason for me to abandon the brand I love for a pre-built model.
