I love it how Bioware finally put more character development into Shepard on an emotional scale, it really shows that Shepard is under a massive amount of stress, plus the PTSD of being blown up in ME2, then having the fate of the galaxy rest on his hands in ME3, because deep down, he knew he was fighting a losing battle, even if he said he was hopeful.

thats the true story of Mass Effect 3. It shows, that there are some things, that you cannot stop. And whatever you are going to do it will end the same way. The 4th ending shows it. The very end of it, when the catalyst dissapears, and Shepard just look at the schorched Earth... Thats life. Thats true face of your own life. It hits hard, and takes no prisoners.

Shepard was doing exactly what Saren told him not to in ME - miring him/herself in pointless revolt and sacrificing everything for the sake of petty freedoms, driven by emotion instead of logic, fighting a fight that cannot be win, something what even Shepard admitted before Harbinger in Arrival but chose it regardless, because it's perfectly organic reaction.

Wow, that was beautiful. It was so beautiful that you inspired me to extend your small stanza, i hope you don't mind. Here it is:
I walk through a cold forest of grey,
      My name echoing,
      Whispers through the wind,
      Time slows to a crawl,
The shadows of those I could not save standing close,
A manifestation of all my fears,
But amongst the trees, a child,
      Playing,laughing,
      Innocence embodied,
      A sudden flash of red,
      Followed by a thunderous shriek,
      The child cowers with fear,
Then disappears within the forest of grey,
      I find myself wandering deeper,
      The whispers grow louder,
      The child emerges once more,
I extend my hand, my comfort,
But alas, it was not enough,
Embers are born at the childs feet,
      The embers turn to flame,
      The child engulfed, now ash,
      I could not save him,
      I could not save them,
      I could not save myself.
It describes the first dream that Shepard has. I hope you like it!

Part of ME3 is that Shepard is deteriorating, kid or not, IT or not. A huge amount of soldiers have PTSD, and look at what Shep lost. The dream sequence was good, and could have been brilliant. Story of ME3 as a whole I guess.

Each empire studied the mass relays and can understand how it works. We know that the mass relays are using element zero and a single kind of physics. I mean, if you don't choose the Control ending with the Reapers repairing the mass relays in a few months, I think all races are capable to repair their own mass relays and my Shepard might go to Rannoch again, building a home for Tali... ;)

Shepard has the weight of the galaxy on his/her shoulders. The child represents everyone he/she can't save. I think these scenes are really brilliant and show the gravity of Shepard's situation. I don't think these scenes were at all out of place. I'd have to say that if you think it's out of place then that's pretty much completely wrong. I've seen no compelling arguments that would state otherwise.

    Nightmares of the Shepards:
Earthborn - Running down an endless back-alley after after the boy (in this dream, a younger version of your created Shepard)
Colonist - Running from Batarian pirates past other colonist's bodies and ruins
Spacer - The Normandy slow crumbles around you as you try to escape
Sole Survivor - Flee the thresher maw as it devours your squad on Akuze
War Hero - Fend off pirates for a certain amount of time on Elysium
Ruthless - Capturing and executing pirates on Torfan
Seriously if they had incorporated your characters pre-service background and psyche profile into these sequences, it would of added an extra layer of immersion and flesh out how your Shepard came to be the man/woman they are. Such a missed opportunity.

This is one of the many things why I loved Mass Effect 3 and why I consider it as the best game of the best video games trilogy ever made. We always heard that Shepard was an alone kid without parents who grew in the streets of a big city on Earth, who engaged himself in the Alliance army very young and who's a lonely survivor from a disastrous mission. We could expect that he was suffering of some guilt, some trauma, but they gave us that scene only in the third game. It showed us how Shepard is fighting against his past and himself. As people die again and again, you will hear their voices, whispering to you all these moments you've been living with them. All those scenes, all those lines, all of this, gone. And if you did the choices that made them die, you'll feel guilty, you, behind your screen, because you *ARE* Shepard. It showed me why I took the "good" decisions. I wasn't playing a certain amount of pixels in a video game but a character, as sensitive as the others, it showed me how my Shepard loved Tali as the only real family he's got. This dream, much more a nightmare, is one of the best scenes in the trilogy, and in video games. It's worthy of Mass Effect.

i once read a criticism of the dreams at the beginning of each act a failed attempt at trying to make an empty game more emotional for players but actually resulting in revealing shepard as feeling guilty for killing his friends.
which suffice to say i disagreed. if shepard was a real man, I doubt hed be getting any sleep with such a weight on his shoulders. unless the had some sorta interstellar "long nap" drug lol

The ambiance this melody created was to surreal. Shepard struggling with every decision he made. It's fitting for him to go through these struggles in a dream sequence. As well his struggle for indoctrination. That kid in his dream appeared to him in the end as "The Citadel", but really it was "Harbinger" trying to indoctrinate him. But not me, I made the ultimate sacrifice and...destroyed legions legacy.

the canon ending is to not chose. The cursible is Reapers tech. Shepard was indoctrinated. He was under they control from the beginnig of Mass effect 3. The nightmares. There wasn't any child. No other person In the game actually interacted with this kid... Why cuirsible had things to destroy? Why few milions of technicians and scientist build a device, that need to be destroyed? Why catalist didnt looked like someone Shepard actually loves? You cannot control the reapers. Saren and Illusion man trayed, and they end indoctrinated. A symbiosis? the whole galaxy and everything there lives would turn into half machine. The Reapers would achieve they ultimate goal. Destroy? you would destroy Geth too. Shepard wouldn't sacrifice whole race. And the mass relays are destroyed. There is only one ending. The not-choose-ending. Only then, the Shepard will be finnaly free.

The lasting essences of war are the weapons which the soldier of creed or calling wields. With every push forward and every hill taken, the costs to those whom wield the tools are which the most diligent face. Battling on the front lines, their metal and resolve are tested and strained to breaking. Yet long after we have all gone the weapon remains a testament to an endearing truth of war: the most immediate victims are those who must pick up their tools again and again for creed or calling

Clint Mansell recycle parts of his songs most of the time. But I think he does it to keep the atmosphere of the game (and movies in other cases).

If listen to it through headphones you can hear the piano playing normally then it plays backwards in some parts. It's pretty haunting but awesome at the same time. :)

As I said, it's preparation. Writers use many preparation sequences before player makes important decisions; wander about the cultural side of Krogans, watch Geth holograms about the conflict with Quarians, learn about the Reaper making process in Collector Base, etc, so you have the necessary context to make decisions. When Reaper child asks you to decide about "synthesis" or "control" you have zero context. Instead you've been given these dream sequences to not to trust it's word one bit.

  • @Godrip
    @Godrip 12 лет назад

True I can't imagine any other reason why they put in the dream parts in the game. The commander is not that kind of person who suddenly start to have nightmares just because a kid got exploaded, sad but Shepard could have delt with it. The dreams must be slow indoctrination attempts, Because I cant imagine that after the shitstorm your protagonist went through during her/his life ( if you are a Sol survivor, Akuze for example) now from all the sudden s/he is starting to have bad dreams....

I liked this song in the game with the big bass Reaper sounds that scared the child away. That sound reminds me of Inception, and it just adds a lot of tension to it, I think :D

couldn't agree more. I found the movie the fountain because of his work. when I heard he'd be doing the composition for mass effect 3, I insatntly said SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY. fosrs.
the music was easily one of the best parts of mass effect 3, aside from the kick ass gameplay and the parts that aren't the ending. I kid. the whole game was amazing, and clint mansell made it an incredible journey, even if the final sequences didnt do his work justice.

  • @chrispy9229
    @chrispy9229 12 лет назад

Yeah, well, you know what's the difference? Hudson and all the other Bioware guys said that we'd get a group of big epic endings that was vastly different from each other, and that every decision we made affected the outcome.
Instead, we got a 'group' of endings that were 90% the same, aside from a pallete swap, and all of your choices are ignored in favour of a last-minute, nonsensical A,B or C decision.
That's why we're not happy. We feel as if we were downright lied to.

If you do Tali's loyalty mission in ME2, she becomes an Admiral, and then she can help you settle a truce between the Quarians and Geth. But otherwise, no I don't think so.
