What I liked about it was that there was no hazing or anything like that and we looked out for each other and helped one another with homework and studying and stuff like that. We even meant once a week to discuss our emotions, for lack of a better word, just things that were bothering us at school life and family life. Even when I took a 15 month or so sabbatical, I was allowed to go to those meanings and did so with great pride. We had meetings just to make sure we were ok cause college can be freaking hard. I don’t think I would have graduated without the friends I meant there. That is how I think all fraternities should be. I also remember making a lot of fart jokes with my brothers. I haven’t really seen anybody explicitly talk about why this is a GOOD thing, but it’s probably a major part of the reason that the show is still almost unstoppably successful to this day despite the literal creators’ best efforts. The writers are perfectly confident in their and the audience’s mutual low standards.
People watch it for low-brow chuckles, familiar and comfortable characters and humor, and unobtrusive background noise. Nobody knows that better than its audience today. Yet for like an actual, literal decade people have been saying, “Family Guy is such a terrible show! You know, at this point Family Guy almost feels like the real-life version of Wacky Delly, where Seth desperately wants the show to be cancelled so he can invest more time and focus into his other shows, so he constantly pushes his writer to set the bar lower and lower with each passing season. However, because the show's primary audience is preteen boys, it keeps backfiring and the show becomes more popular than ever.
