- French President Emmanuel Macron and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen are in China for a three-day visit where they'll meet with President Xi Jinping and other top Chinese officials.
Their joint trip is the latest in a noticeable push from European leaders to engage with China, which has seen German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Spanish PM Pedro Sánchez paying visits in recent months.
Mr Macron and Ms von der Leyenwill be pressing Mr Xi on taking further steps to halt the Ukraine war, while also finessing the increasingly fraught trade relationship between the European Union and China, its biggest trading partner.

This is the specific challenge with UK. If it pursue isolationist policies that attempt to decouple from China, other European countries, particularly France and Germany will fill the gap leaving the UK suffering alone.
The UK is not isolationist, it is the complete opposite. UK has been busy signing trade and military agreements with all of China's enemies.
That's why leaving the EU was stupid. England will be slowly marginalized in wealth and power like they did other European countries during the colonial era. Italy used to be one that favors engagement with China too before it's new ultra right wing PM> They all know that it is impossible to follow the US policies to decouple from China. France particularly wants to pursue an independent foreign policies from the US. So it is business as usual with China and a slap in the face of Biden. The call between Biden and Macron is just for show and as is Von der Leyen coming with Macron. Von der Leyen is going to be out soon and her wish to become the first female NATO chief and hence the bearer of US foreign policy makes her visit redundant as China would not really want to talk to her.
