    Reacher has a great philosophy when it comes to fighting: "Get your retaliation in first." Also note that in the first fight Reacher said he would count to 3 but used the element of surprise and attacked on 2. In the 2nd fight Reacher understood that it was possible that the new baddies were aware that he started the 1st fight on 2, so Reacher again seized the element of surprise and attacked on 1. Details matter.

"Forgetting" Cruise is easy enough - I think the differences are so substantial that I won't confuse one version for another. The one thing I like about Cruise - he's a small enough fellow so other guys might challenge him - as was done. But in this series? Seeing that angry-husband turn on Ritchson and threaten him with ugly tones - li'l scrawny and angry hubby versus Reacher? Uh... no way. The motel parking lot fight with the 4 high schoolers? No way. With Cruise, they might have. With Ritchson though? Uh... no. I thought the "in prison bathroom" fight scene was reasonable since any two of those inmates might have ganged up on Ritchson, and certainly with all four.

    I had read the nvel that this season is based on, 'The Killing Floor' by Lee Child, and I was so pleased that they were faithful to the novel. Reacher is one of the most singular characters ever. He is a simple man, but with hidden depths and amazing talents. Alan Ritchson is superb as Reacher. I also fell in love with Roscoe (Willa Fitzgerald)...she plays the hell out of her role. She does it so well, that she impressed author Lee Child so much that Child said he wished he had written Roscoe into other books (alas, she is only in this story.).

      That's Reacher's appeal -- it's a wonderful fantasy in which the 'good guy' always wins! The amazingly capable fighter with eyes in the back of his head who literally brutalizes bad dudes, and we can cheer for him while he hospitalizes people and not feel one bit guilty because he's the 'good guy'. And if he does happen to get thrown in jail, he's there for only a short time because he doesn't get caught up in miles of red tape like he would today, in 'the real world'.

    YES! THIS IS JACK REACHER!!! I've read all 26 books and I could not wait for this series. By far my favorite fictional character. Most Reacher fans were disappointed when Tom Cruise was cast in the movies. He did a nice job of capturing Reacher's attitude, but Reacher is 6'5" 245, and it's made VERY clear in all the books... Cruise is what... 5'7"? I was completely sold that Alan Ritchson was Jack Reacher. I re-read 'The Killing Floor' just before this series premiered, and they did an exceptional job honoring the novel. Don't get used to any of the other characters, because Reacher is a drifter and each novel takes place in different parts of the country with new intriguing characters being introduced. I can't wait for season two!!!

    Happy to see you guys react to this. I've seen it three times through myself. It's outstanding. Alan Richson is exactly as Reacher is described in the books. Way better than Tom Cruise who isn't even close in any regard. Of course, that's just my opinion.
    Lee Child was helping his wife while out grocery shopping and since he's tall, people ask him to get stuff from the higher shelves. A little old lady asked him if he could reach something up high for her and his wife said to him "if this writer thing doesn't work, maybe you can get a job as a reacher." He also wanted the character to have the simplest first name he could think of and decided on Jack. Not Jack as an alternate to John either. Just Jack and no middle name. The origin of the name Jack Reacher.

    I read the books maybe 15 ,20 years ago, this is the only Reacher that does the books justice, I don't have cable, but I'm getting Amazon Prime now just to watch this ,even his stone face and short answer and warning folks,that they don't want a piece of him,it's so on the money just like the books, this is going to be a hugh hit.

    This series follows the book almost to a tee. Tedious details are skipped but, the story is on point. Alan is missing 2” on the book character but, definitely more believable than Tom. Alan appeared as Aquaman near the end of Smallville as well. I really hope the get to the story that Tom Cruise did based on One Shot. Oh, had to add that your wife is gorgeous. Addendum: the actor playing Finley was in a series, “I Zombie”. Good series if you didn’t watch it.

    Great reaction! I love the books and this is a fantastic translation. Reacher has learned to strike first and fight dirty to win (especially against 4 or 6 people). A recurring line in the books is "Reacher said nothing" which shows he doesn't need to talk alot, but is always analyzing things.

  • @npatch
    @npatch 2 года назад

    "He didn't give anybody till 3." That's the point. He knew he'd have to take em by surprise, especially when multiple of them encircled him and he had no one to watch his back. Maximum efficiency by striking first when they least expect it. And only because he has the raw strength to follow through with it, otherwise it could fail. First group were kinda lax, so a count to 2 worked, but the second group were there to kill, so a count of 2 could be expected, but not a count of 1. Great scene, nice choreo.

  • @grafffuller3265
    @grafffuller3265 Год назад

    You asked if anyone has read this series, yes and a few of them twice (twenty seven novels...and still one comes out each year).
    Alan Ritchson IS Reacher. He plays him JUST like in the books. This first season is the adaptation of Book One - The Killing Floor. It isn't a one to one adaptation, but it is truly careful in paying homage to the character and the story. Slight differences are needed in written books versus live action...and this is a "Chef's Kiss" to the fandom of Jack Reacher and the author Lee Child.
    It has been a pleasure to have watched three times, and nearing a dozen reactions to this season...and you have now become the next wave.
    It's fun to watch YOUR reactions and picking up the sublties...that they've laid out.
    Will keep in touch.

    So glad you guys are reacting to this... really enjoyed the series and was especially happy that the series managed such a great adaptation of the original source material. Makes you wonder why some filmmakers can figure out how to respect the IP (i.e. Cobra Kai, Reacher, LOTR) while far too many others fail so miserably (Star Trek, Dr. Who, Star Wars, The Wheel of Time, The Rings of Power, etc.).

    that arrest scene, Reacher is not surprised. He has seen this moment coming and has played it enough times in his mind that he know the drill so well, he just put it away and never worried about it anymore. Smart and calm, knows to keep shut, and waits. Let the system do the work and try.. just try to pin something on him, He for sure wont 'help.' He was the best military cop of his time, and he always did the work, and now he wont do it for them. When they finally explain the case, he starts speaking because its got nothing to do with him, Not this one lol.

    I am a fan of the Jack Reacher books and read almost all of them up to date. Amazon finally got a show right with Reacher. Good casting amd sticks to the story for the most part. No spoilers on future seasons, but Reacher is not so much a hero out to do good, he does break the law at times. He is a man who just qants to be left alone and gets himself in situations where he has to step up amd become the hero. He is a classic anti-hero.

    The books are set a few decades back so his mother was part of the French Resistance during WW2.
