Watched the whole series on Amazon prime a year ago. Brilliant. Having said that so was the original wolfgang petersen movie Das Boot my favourite movie of all time.

Hollywood directors watch this and weep. See how a film is really made instead of the crap that you keep churning out ( with a few exceptions). A really good film.

A wartime U Boat riddled with plots and intrigue on a par with a soap opera, the mid-ocean prisoner exchange involving a private American ship and the following mutiny, all rather a bit implausible. I had to give up halfway through #2
Not really things like this did happen...Just like the U.S Bush family gave hitler huge lones to build his ships etc & that's a fact....

At about 1:05 like find a needle in a haystack... It's not difficult when using logic. Remove the stack to another place and shake every handful, then you find the needle on the floor. If by accident it's not there, the you had moved the needle with you by accident. Then repeat to move the stack again, and shake the hay more properly. So simple.
Heartbreaking to see the number of blocked countries. Sad to see so much of the world shutting out, let alone so much of it.

This is artistic licence gone mad. Eight minutes in to episode two and I surrender my disbelief no more. Also, some of the crew appear to be shaving when there was no shaving on submarines.

In war there are only losers. Some loses their lifes , some their health but all loses their innocence. That s the same old tune since the stoneage and will keep going until the end of mankind. Despitenthis, what this movie shows is total rubbish. If you want to see something accurate, than you have to see the original german movie „Das Boot“ and movies like „Saving private rayn“ or the old german movie „Stalingrad“ from the early 90ties. Not this Disney rubbish with modern political correctness and drama. The real thing was true horror. And not this mixture beween kind of school kid drama and melodramatic or rude sexism of unpunished rape or muppet loonys like Capt. Wrangel. Someone like him wouldnt be allowed to lead anyone. Not in the navy nor somewhere else. Not on german side nor in any other army of the world. The time was totally different. People where different, germans and the others where different. I spent nearly my hole life with this part of history, but all you can see in this movie oart 1 to 4 is only stupid Disney farytale work of people which never engage themselve in the topic. Weeks on the see and no beards grow ? Come on, their might have been you, but not so young….cringe.
It may well be fiction but it is bloody good fiction - and the depiction of U Boot life really good...well,. as far as I know

Its real rubbish, Soap opera melodrama meets Disney adventure movies ( nothing of this had or could ever tookplace in reality) Puppet clown german officers without any kind of dicipline? and, come on. Weeks on the see and all stay clean and shaven? Repetion of dialogs from the original movie? No punishment for rape? Sexism? Might be. In thus way? Forget it, not at this time period, sry. It matches more to the present time. If you want to see something more accurate and true watch other movies, watch the original movie „das Boot“ from the 80ties.

Toll gemacht. Die Darsteller machen ihre Arbeit hervorragend, und die Story ist durchaus spanned erzählt. Allerdings finde ich die ganze Geschichte seltsam. Der Krieg findet hier zwar unter Wasser statt, jedoch Kämpft die Besatzung die ganze Zeit nur gegen sich selbst.

Unterwasser soap opera in places. There’s enough trouble and drama in wartime that the writers didn’t such a goofy storyline.
As I understand it, Germans of this time were devoted to duty and country, if not to the regime itself, or war-making. The mutiny is unlikely, despite the XO having PTSD, and the rescued captain leading the mutiny. Given that people were being shot for minor offences, there’s no way that the mutinous crew of this boat wouldn’t end up being shot.

This is the weirdest story .. as if a war patrol would not be exciting enough.. I'm pretty captivated tho.. with Hoffman back I have to know what happens.

I don't suppose any film will ever do justice to the unbearable boredom broken only by the absolute terror of living and dying on a WWII German U-boat. This series does a pretty good job of repurposing Wolfgang Petersen's theatrical version, one of very few films you have to watch a dozen times to truly appreciate :)
The other parts were way better than this one but still 10 times better than the average Hollywood crap. Also this one was very dark for the most part.
Plenty of German wild staring eyes features in this one 😂

I was on British boats for 25years and we never ever. got clean sleeping bags or pillows. Even on the original DAS BOOT they always had clean pillow cases. Good films though 😂😂

Part 1 was great. And yes the idea of editing was spot on as we've all seen a lot of movies about the resistance, but the original Das Boot movie and the submariner content of this tv series are comparatively much rarer in the subject matter. However, it didn't take long to jump the shark in part 2 here, and since I doubt that European tv producers even know what that is, i'm doubly surprised to see it here. A secret prisoner exchange on the high seas, at night, but it's a trap, but then it's a mutiny, but then we'll cast off the real captain like it's copied from the Bounty? Too much.
Saw the original movie at the theatre. It left such a lasting impression upon me that I am here watching this great series.

This is 1942, a point in the war when the USN were, due to their incredible incompetence, allowing U boats right up to their western seaboard to sink good tankers within sight of shore.
The U boat crews referred to their enemies as 'Tommies' because mainly that's who they were up against.
This movie while effectively representing the squalor of life on a WW2 submarine is garbage in every other respect.
The only accuracy is that American banks bankrolled the Nazi war machine along with their Swiss partners in crime

Its trash compared to original . "Das Boot " with Doldinger on Saxophon and all electronics composition, world class actors and original 1:1 Boot cafted by Geman engineers of Hamburg and Bremen. A Film with great color photography and original living in the Boat . So many awards all over the world ! A film as one of the best in the world. This here is a very low production cost film. Bad photography. A Shame compared to " Das Boot " !
I think this movie is less about the nazi, and more about men. Regular men could be anyone race,color,or creed.Just trying to survive the awful circumstances that were placed on them.
