It's amazing to see how many iconic images (copyrights) that they got permission to use in this film.
I have a feeling they were lined up around the block to have their property represented in a spielberg film
The book uses pop culture from about a decade earlier. So glad I'm old enough to understand the refs from the book and young enough to also get the refs from the movie.
the grenade she threw was a Madballs toy from the 1980s and the thumbs up is a callback to Terminator 2!
The old lady in the Shining attacking with the knife reminded me of the nurses in Silent Hill

I'm impressed that Marian recognized the "original Easter egg" from the early Atari video game Adventure. That was a fun game as a kid in the early '80s.
By the way, the book is a fun read. It actually had a hidden game in it, and if someone figured it out they'd win an actual Delorean car. The writer, if I recall, owned two of them, so he could give one away. The puzzle in the book was too hidden so no one figured it out at first.
For real? I actually read this book when it was new and I never heard this! Oh man I coulda had a DeLorean!!???

The state I am from actually has The Stanley Hotel that inspired The Shining. I've been to the Stanley Hotel and let me tell you, it is SUPER eerie and while walking around, there are times where it will get extremely cold in certain areas, especially outside room 217.

Hello Marian & Joy!😊 This one is definitely very interesting visually.🏆 There are many things in this movie from other notable films. This takes place in 2045, only 21 years from now.😉 I think the main bad guys avatar is suppose to be a version of Superman, Marian. Great reactions to this very well made film, Kids!!!!🎬🎬👏👏👏👏 "The Shining" phrase is "Here's Johnny" which was originally from the late night talk show "The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson".😉

If you have the time, I would suggest to listen to the book or audiobook version of the story, the movie is only an adaptation (a fun one), but in the original you get to dive much-much deeper into the world and the characters.
In the book the author gets the chance to geek out frequently on old games and movies, along with TV shows and finding clues is much more of a challenge.
Obviously the movie had to cut corners to jam the general idea into like 90 minutes, but if you enjoyed this, you might enjoy the book too.
Especially if you feel like present day entertainment is anything but entertaining.
The book inspired me to dust off ancient games and play them again, and I have to say I'm having more fun with them than with the AAA publisher's flagship releases. I've had enough with games being stuffed full with micro transactions and DLC's and season passes, and all kinds of BS.

In one aspect, this film is terrifying. We are so willing to place ourselves in a world of fantasy, only to be trapped and enslaved by both corporate and government forces, just so we can continue to play the game.
We already are enslaved, chasing the ol mighty money, so we might be able to live better...that is just how life is, no point in thinking it's any different in this movie than the real life

This is one of Spielberg worst in my opinion. It drowns you in so much nostalgia that you forget about all the goofs and plot holes this film had. I had the same feeling you guys had when watching this for the first time.

This is a movie and not at all a film. It's just for fun and not for everybody. But it's great to its intended audience 🤷♀️
