The view atop Clouds Rest was absolutely stunning! The clouds were actually resting on the mountain tops. What a sight! Loved the cable climb up to Half Dome. Great views there too. You ladies were just giddy with your experience. So nice.
That was incredible! Clouds Rest looked like the end of the world!! It was super cool to see Yosemite from the top of Half Dome. Such a great adventure. Thanks for taking us with you. 🤜🏼🤛🏼
I think that’s my favorite hike with you two. What a view, no matter where you look, Yosemite is spectacular. You both have taken me places I never thought I would see let alone experience…and from my couch with an atlas beside me. Thank you so much. Take care. Be safe💕
Your timing couldn’t have been more perfect for the hike from Tuolumne Meadows to the valley. Usually, the number of people going up and down the cables to half dome is massive. To only have a few people on top with you is a rare sight indeed! Clouds Rest is amazing. I really enjoy the options for hiking out of Tuolumne Meadows. Such beauty! I’ve hiked the Hetch Hetchy loop. You are correct that it’s best hiked as early as possible in the year. It’s beautiful when the falls are flowing and it’s cooler. Good call on your part for turning around. The low elevation, sun exposure, and bugs past May or early June (in my experience) makes for a potentially hot and miserable hike. Thanks for taking us along!
Hey girls, its me ! Another big thank you for taking us along, sure enjoyed this one. And my theory of why the gov people were nice and gave you the permits is that they all are in AWE of you, they probably heard you all were in the area and were so thrilled to see you that they would let you have what ever you needed. A great trip, and hope you have a safe trip home.
I absolutely love this! My Dad and his partner worked in Yosemite from the late 60’s to the early 80’s. I have so many fond memories associated with this park! Thank you so much for the memories! ✌🏼🤟🏼
Amazing. Well done, ladies. What a wonderful summer of hiking adventures you've experienced. Thanks for taking us with. Now, enjoy a well deserved rest.
Wow just Wow!! What an amazing video, the views were fantastic! Thank you so much for taking me along. I just love watching both of you, you are amazing women and I love following along all of your journeys. Take care and stay safe. Can’t wait to see what is next for you. ❤❤
I always wondered how people get up on Half Dome! I’m trilled you took this hike!!! My very best friend,Al, was 97 years old and he told me of his many times of going up Half Dome, when he was in his 20’s. That would be in the 40’s, because he fought in WWII. I would imagine he didn’t have the chains and railings, back then? WOW! I loved this video!!! Thank you!!! I love you guys! You’ve taken me all over the world! Thank you! Thank you!!
Well done. I just saw Yosemite px of total winter snow I think the next day. You are so fortunate to have those cables and top to yourselves. I am sure how not fun!!!! it is to do those cables w hundreds of people going up and down. Lucky lucky. P S just wondering. Do you not carry head nets for mosquitoes?( if not for gnats) A necessity back East and North for midges, black flies certain seasons.
Glad it all worked out and thanks for taking us along :). Two memories: 1. I hiked Hetch Hetchy with my best friend when we were about 19 years old and I recall her running ahead of me on the trail through a forested section slapping at herself because the mosquitos were so bad. Overall, it was beautiful, though. Also, first time in my life that I saw a bear. 2. At some point in my mid-30's I hiked Half Dome. I think it may have been before the registration system and it was very, very crowded. I also left my pack at the bottom because I didn't feel secure going up the chains with it on (I recall it was also windy). It was before digital cameras and cell phones (or at least my ownership of either) but I think I have a print photo or two somewhere. Thanks for the memories.
I didn't know you could hike Half Dome, I thought it was for rock climbers. How beautiful, thanks for the adventure. Great summer of trips with you. Take care, be safe.
Love your ability and confidence to change your plan! And be mindful of using your time and experiences doing something you are enjoying. So many would feel compelled to keep going, esp. after putting in a few miles. It is a wonderful example on many levels, and a reminder for all of life.
Shhhhh…don’t let the youngsters know: being retired is the best! Getting to be so flexible with your itinerary reaps such rewards. I’ve loved these California videos. Is it time to start back to Arizona? Thanks, as always, for bringing us along!
Love everything about this! From changing plans, to saying Hetch Hetchy multiple times just cause it’s fun to say it 😂! and the amazing ending… love to experience these adventures through your eyes! Thanks for sharing ❤
Fantastic video. Thank you. Prompted me to read more about half dome, how many people have fallen off, jumped off, slipped off the cables, climbed per year, oldest person. We have been, but surely didn’t hike it. Y’all are cool.
I was a public relations ranger for two seasons at Yosemite when I was 60ish and I remember those gnats!! Glacier Point, the Mariposa Grove, and Tuolumne Meadows were my favorites. The first month I was there a man dropped his water bottle, let go of the cable at HD and fell to his death in front of the whole line of people on the cables. It took the rescue rangers all day and night getting people off that rock who were frozen in fear. I have so many stories from there! .
Thanks for sharing another great adventure! So beautiful! I love that you are wise enough to change course if things aren't what you anticipate. Happy hiking!
I went home early from Mount Palomar for the same reason - bugs are no fun! The big black flies were biting my dog so badly she was running to the tent or my car to get away from them! I will never camp with bugs...life is too short! I agree with your decision! Yes it has been warm here in SoCal the past few weeks - just cooled off a little! So fun to follow your adventures and one of my favotite places. I once arrived in a snow storm and was the first person in the valley covered in snow!
Just because you plan it, and get permits, doesn't mean you can't make changes. I'm such a Plan B, C, D person. LOVE that you shared this experience. Life is too short to be rigid. The change ended up being AMAZING and WOW so lucky to experience this without lines of people. Congrats on believing and turning lemons into lemonade. The views of low clouds at Clouds Rest was indeed a highlight. Perfect!
I live next to Yosemite. Just completed the JMT NOBO earlier this year. Yay. Some years back in April I decided to tackle Hetch Hetchy for an early season backpack trip. It was HOT. No water other than the reservoir you could not access. It was strange. It was unnerving. It was eerie. No one else out there. It was spooky and I knew I didn’t belong. After a series of strange mishaps I decided to camp for the night and just get out of there in the AM. Restless night, I told the Hetch Hetchy universe that if I could leave, I would not be back, I did and I will not be. My go-to in Yosemite is ALWAYS out of Tuolumne meadows. I feel you may have been around Tuolumne Meadows and out there when I was completing the JMT on 9/15, It was suppose to snow, but didn’t…that day.
What a fabulous summer you've had, and an awesome way to end it! Thanks for motivating me to do hard things. I've been training all year and doing some "easier" backpacking, and tomorrow I leave for a 2-night trip to the bottom of the Grand Canyon! I'm nervous and excited!
Hi. Exactly, did the Santiam pass section in OR last week that i missed due to closure and injury. I went with a friend, a guy some years younger and his marine nephew. I expected to be miles behind. First day out the super kind, sweet bean pole marine met a young woman. They hit it off and spent the rest of the hike giggling, eating chips and making memories ;) My friend was dealing with a death and I was the only one with navigation (farout app). We ended up stretched out along the trail in opposite formation than expected. Since it was everyone elses first hike and they were dealing with blisters and knee pain, i determined it needed to be as fun/ meaningful as possible so we asked my friend's wife pick us up at Timothy Lakes rather than gov camp. and paired down the daily miles. Turned out to be a great choice. The youngsters were adorable and my friend had a positive first experience jazzed to do the whole pct. We all learned a bunch. For me it was to be sure everyone had navigation and my original inreach mini did not communicate with the newer model....
Regarding Half Dome: Impressive! Especially in those conditions. A young, fit person slipped and fell to her death earlier this summer. I did it back in 2002 and seeing your shots going up and then down the cables reminded me that I have no plans to do it ever again, but very glad I did it at least once in my life.
What a summer full of adventures you two have had. Yosemite and Half Dome were the cherries on top! I have enjoyed every single minute following along. You all continue to inspire and motivate with every trip you take us on. Well done 😎
Thanks for sharing your adventures including mis-adventures. 😅 Really smart move to abandon and rethink your hike! This is supposed to be fun, not a slog. I have no patience for getting eaten alive by bugs either- life is too short, and there are many more fun adventures to be had. You rock!❤❤
Great video!... love the theme of change it if you don't like it. I did Yosemite a few weeks ago Glacier Point loop over Red Peak Pass Half Dome and back to Glacier Point... What a beautiful location...BTW I listen to Might Blue's podcast regularly and heard you guys interviewed on that some time ago.. I am planning the AT next year... thanks for the inspiration
I am going to quote you with the line "I am too old to do what I dont like". I did a backpack trip a couple years ago on the other side of valley, looking at half dome. Hardest thing with almost 40 lb pack! You would probably sprint it.
Loved seeing Clouds' Rest - I have never been up there. Think that I could do it next summer at 75.5? It was so nice you could do Half Dome without the crowds. I climbed it in the moonlight when I was 19 with a trail crew. They left before sunrise, so I had the whole top to myself in the morning. Would like to do it again -- but my somedays are getting away from me. Thanks for the tour. Happy Trails.
Check out area around Bishop. There’s some great hikes up there around Lake Sabrina and a series of lakes out of Big Pine. Also day hike up around McGee Creek. So fun you in California!
Impressive, inspiring wandering and timing. I've been at Half Dome when there was a line of 100 hikers at the cables! How do the Half Dome cables compare to the via ferratas you hiked in Europe?
I was wondering if you could go through your pack and show us what you take with you for your hikes. Do you really only sleep on that thin sleeping pad. My old bones would need a bit more cushion. I would love to see what you carry.
Love it! What trail did you start on to go to half dome? I’m thinking having a self arrest line would make me feel safer especially if rocks get a bit slick! What do you think?
@@windeaglemartin1800A via ferrata lanyard and harness kit is a good safety measure. If the rock is wet, don't attempt it with or without a harness kit. Even the best vibram soles on your shoes or climbing shoes won't hold you on Half Dome when it's wet.
You ladies are amazing and inspiring. Thank you soooo much.
Yosemite is my favorite for sure. Thanks for bringing us along. Hate to see the summer end
The view atop Clouds Rest was absolutely stunning! The clouds were actually resting on the mountain tops. What a sight! Loved the cable climb up to Half Dome. Great views there too. You ladies were just giddy with your experience. So nice.

Congratulations, you made that look easy, better than others I’ve watched!
Your timing couldn’t have been more perfect for the hike from Tuolumne Meadows to the valley. Usually, the number of people going up and down the cables to half dome is massive. To only have a few people on top with you is a rare sight indeed!

Wow! A big Wow! That was awesome! I have enjoyed your adventures all summer. Thanks for taking us along. 😊
Amazing. Well done, ladies. What a wonderful summer of hiking adventures you've experienced. Thanks for taking us with. Now, enjoy a well deserved rest.
Wow, what scenery! Yosemite is gorgeous. Thrilled for you guys-Half Dome…Woohoo! Another awesome 20 summers highlight! ❤💪🏻🥾🏔️
❤
I think this is one of my top ten videos of you girls. Beautiful and enjoyed the quiet, no music sections. just talking and sharing your excitement.
What a great finish to your 2024 backpacking season!😄👏
Just when I think you can’t impress or amaze me anymore you go and do the 1/2 dome. Continue to be a beckon of inspiration ladies.
I got to the cables and said no thanks. Loved seeing hetch hechy
How incredibly lucky you got with Half Dome virtually deserted! Great job.
OMGoodness that was epic, scary but so amazing. Thank you for taking us with you. Many more happy days to you both.❤🎉
Wow just Wow!! What an amazing video, the views were fantastic! Thank you so much for taking me along. I just love watching both of you, you are amazing women and I love following along all of your journeys. Take care and stay safe. Can’t wait to see what is next for you. ❤❤

I love Yosemite and your perspective was a gorgeous one and one I would not see without you. My knees were shaking just from watching you😮😅😊.
Nice to see your change of plans turned out so well! Great grand finale for the season!
I love the Sierra soooo much. Wish I could afford to live nearer.
Wonderful views of the amazing place, it was fun to come along. You are a real inspiration. Thank you!!!
Nice hike and congrats on the short hike and getting to hike the Half Dome! Awesome!
Wow another awesome hike! You two rock!! 😊😊
You ladies are absolutely awesome!
That was awesome! Way to go on half dome! I can’t wait to get out west someday and do what you’re doing!

Splendid!
You 2 are flipping amazing 👏
Wonderful video and I like the music you selected.
Girs I started watching some videos of you , are amazing I did half done 2 years ago it is so hard , you 2 are my hero’s
Thank you.
👌🏻awesome! Just go!

For me itwould of been scarier to come down the dome. You definitely to good tread on your shoes!
OMG, we just missed each other. We were at Clouds Rest on the 17th!
Aww, too bad. Would have been fun to meet.

Hey, best of luck to you on the AT.
It is not fun hiking with the bugs. The second area looks beautiful and it doesn’t appear to be so buggy. You got up really high. Amazing.
That was awesome! The cables were sketchy.
The view don't get better than at the top of Half-Dome!🎉
So beautiful! Thank you for sharing. I will not be doing Half Dome. Not for me
Nice.going here November myself

If you’re coming back through Truckee my guest room is ready if you need a place to stop for the night. Wishing you happy trails.
Thank you so much. We headed straight to Colorado.
I've never been to Yosemite. I hope to go soon with my travel trailer. It looks harder to go down the cables than up. True?
Thanks for sharing.
It was actually easier to go down. Have fun out there. We love that area.

BE CAREFUL SNOW!!!!
Be careful...snow
Things must b e good, Annette has a new pair of paints, did Pessky take the old pair? Kristy has a new top. We enjoy your adventures

We started at Sunrise TH near Tenaya Lake. 2 night trip into the valley. Several people used a via ferrata kit on Half Dome.
One slip of the foot and you could end up in another state.
Maybe it should be "itch itchy!"
