    Thank you so much for showing us your very creative pvc loader. I took your idea and made one to help me load my kayak solo over the front hood of my suv. I have a winch mounted on my trailer hitch and your device allows me to slide my kayak over the front hood and up onto the cartop without damaging the front hood or requiring 8 ft pvc rails, etc, to slide up. Your idea was the key to my success. Thank you!!! I place it on a towel before strapping it down both top and bottom. I love that your design opted for 3 inch pvc as that holds the kayak keel off the car very well. It is very sturdy and does not stress the front hood of the car. Brilliant and innovative idea.

    I will make one similar but with foam protection (using pool noodles). Thanks for the idea

      With my experience pool noodles fall apart rather quickly/seasonally. Wonder if the kayak would slide less easy.

    A small rubber -backed mat (or 2) seems to be sufficient to avoid scratches, and permits a kayak to slide up with minimal difficulty. Still, that's a nice design, Hugh. :-)

    The pipe isn't doing anything. Just lay a piece of carpet on your car so not to scratch it.

    Do you suppose that would work with a 46kg kayak?

  • @scottybutterworth666
    @scottybutterworth666 2 года назад +1

    Mate the amount of times you bashed the pvc into the paint and scrubbed it over the back of the car you may aswell have just thrown the kayak up there. Some padding would work or a peice of carpet over the paint would cause less damage and would roll up and store easier. (I’m not saying that’s a good solution either but it’s better) maybe a rethink as I don’t think any special devices are needed to mount it just watch some videos on technique a strap or rope should be all you need. However if it works for you that’s great, you had an idea and you went out and made it so full points for following through with it.

    Rover Dude Adventures here, Great idea , I’m thinking of making one for my Chevy Trax , but the cost of the PVC tubing is high like 135.00 , I may just build one to test for viewers, but I would suggest padding on parts touching the car or SUV , that would definitely put some dings in the Paint 😳 , but awesome idea , great job. 👍

    Hugh luv the idea and I will build one - my modification will involve two extra T's to address some of the comments - after (behind) the 45 degree elbow I will fit a T either side with a piece of 90mm between them (a cross brace so to speak) then your 2 T's angled out at what looks like a 45 degree angle which will mean that when the kayak is first lifted up it will sit on the 90mm cross piece and not the tailgate. Thanks again for your idea/design - Regards Ian

    Sorry Hugh, its a fail.
    That contraption will just fill up cabin space in the car when you go away.
    Completely over engineered , all you need is an extension arm to the front bar and slide it out next to the car when loading and slide it back in when traveling.
    But your idea has been funny to watch, and gave me a laugh !

    • @hughf4011
      @hughf4011  3 года назад +2

      Thanks for your feedback espen as mentioned in the video this is meant to be cheaper option. I’m sure an extension arm is just as effective and compact but some people might not have the budget for it so this solution was developed. It is also more designed for trips out just to go kayaking instead of camping and the like. But once again thank you for your feedback and it’s good to hear you enjoyed it

      @@espenforfen1334 FYI his design helped me figure out a different problem I had do it was the final piece of the puzzle I needed to figure out how to load my kayak over the front hood of my suv rather than the back without using long rails, wheels which could deform the front hood, etc. . It works perfectly because it is sturdy, keeps the yak keel from touching the car, distributes the weight across multiple points, etc. I am grateful for his idea and post.
