I'm 70 and I still load & unload my Ocean kayak Frenzy by brute force. Maybe I won't be able to do it by next year, so now I have a choice.

      - That's how I always did my Ocean Kayak Trident ... until shingles hit me New Years ... and then nerve damage. Trying to get overhead strength back but not there yet. I have to make one of these contraptions. Brute force ... ha ha, I like that!

genius level idea. I just bought a two person kayak and it's just at my limit of what I can lift on my own at my age and put on my Honda Pilot's roof. In a year or two I wont be able to anymore. But with this idea, I think there's no end to how long I can use the kayak. Thank you for this idea.

Genius! Thanks so much, can't wait to try this. The oar trick addition makes this ingenious!

Very nice. Thank you for sharing. Especially like the holes and bungee cords where the pipe meets the roof rack.

I like how your using the paddle to separate the pcv pipe. Very innovative. I'd also run the strap under the cross bar just incase the jbar loosens but that 's mostly for long distance. Thanks for the video.

This is brilliant! I bought one of those suction cup things from Amazon and load mine at the back of my suv, which works fine because even though I’m small, my kayak only weighs 45lbs. Nice to have an option for a heavier kayak!

The best one man load so far. but you will have to bring those massive pvc pipes with you on your trip eh. What's important is you're not breaking your arms, shoulders, back, and knees.

Awesome video. I need to make the same thing. We have a tandem kayak and my wife's car is too high for her to give me a hand.

Absolutely brilliant my HERO 🦸‍♀️..... I have recently purchased my first tandem kayak and I was wondering how I was ever going to be able to use it solo.
    Thanks very much 👌🛶🛶🛶🛶

You can add a safety line to the end of the kayak in place of another person to hold the stern.

  • @paugren

Run your straps through the j hook, over the kayak (like you did) and then UNDER the cross bar near the side of your vehicle. That would be a big more secure.

Yes we do. Pretty easy to strap them to the racks with the holes 👍🏼

  • @patriciamumy5816

How do you store them for the trip to the water and back?

    • @TopDadDIY
      @TopDadDIY  Год назад

I strap them on to the roof racks - you can even thread the straps through the holes to make it more secure

Great video and idea. How do you transport the long PVC pipes with you to the water to use after you are done paddling? Also, there are often people parked next to me at the lake, so I am not sure how that would work.

With the holes thru the tubes you could easily tie the tubes to the roof rack alongside the kayak.
People parking right next to you is a problem tho.
