Cheers, Iain! well I must admit that there is nothing better than a good walk to clear the mind and cleans the soul. Even better when you can bag an image for the effort. Thanks again.
Great video Adam. Love that you take the time to let us see and hear your thoughts when you look for the best composition.. More of that please😀 Looking forward to your future videos😀👍🏻 Keep it up😀 Roger
True enough Mike and I do have a pair that I use but carrying them with all of the other stuff can be a bit of a burden. Thanks for your comment, much appreciated.
All I can say is WOW! You put on such a clinic on how to work a scene. Just when you think the shot is good you keeping working the composition until it's great. You weren't sure if it worked, but I can say for sure the final image was a complete gem! Awesome job.
Thanks, Larry! Sometimes when the conditions don’t seem to be favourable it can take a bit more work to find something. I don’t always work this hard to find an image but my talking out loud to the camera seemed to help rationalize an approach to the scene., Glad to hear that you enjoyed the video.
Johnston Canyon is a great location, but there are hazards in the winter, in particular the ice on the trail. You may wish to highlight the need for traction aids to safeguard both self and gear. Great shot btw.
What can I say but you live in a gorgeous area where there seems to be a composition after composition. Your images were just magic. In this amazing winter wonderland. Do you ever great confronted with bears? Probably hibernating at this time of year. All I can only further say is I wish I was there, now !
Funny you should ask about bears as I just posted a bit about bears in my latest vlog. I do encounter bears quite often but it's not something that I worry about. Thanks, Allan!
Gosh, you’re good! Glorious image which I would have been over the moon about. Now about porridge...sweet? Are there no Scots in Canada? There was no refined sugar in Scottish crofts, that’s for sure!
Funny thing is that there are a ton of Scots here. I guess instant porridge is one of those foods that are made to make you feel good about your food choices but in reality, you might as well eat a bag of crisps, haha. Thanks, Mark!
Awesome vid, thanks. Quick question (I'm very new to photography). Just wondering if the icicles/snow pillows in the immediate foreground was your focal point was in the final photo?
Thanks dmonaghan99! I'm not sure if I fully get what your asking but I'll give your question a go. This image doesn't really have a definitive focal point. The foreground icicles and snow pillows are definitely one of the more interesting elements to the image. My goal was to emphasize the foreground by getting in close with a wide angle to almost exaggerate the size of that part of the scene. My other goal was (I think that I have been successful) in keeping the viewers interest within the frame by using lead in lines (the snow in the foreground) a point of interest to lead the viewer into the frame (the icicles and snow pillows) lastly the curve of the falls to bring the viewers eye from the foreground up to the top of the frame and back down to where the image starts again. I hope this answers your question? the image that you see was the last image that I took in the video, sitting down on that dicey ledge, haha. Thanks again.
Eh, and you didn't even use your tripod's snowshoes hah! Yeah things are always iffy on the edge of a snow overhang especially without a stout rope tethered to yourself + nearby tree. Ditto for tripod's near edges of cliffs and the like, no one ever seems to tether them to anything including themselves on the off chance they fall by wind or accidental bump. Incidentally this is where a drone is handy init. :)
That last comp looked the best !
DIY, oatmeal put together at home in a mason jar, much healthier choice, lol. Lovely area, thanks for taking me along. Thanks and cheers, G
I would imagine so, I'm not that organised though. lol.
Lovely images. Loved the last one, can see why you were so excited about it.
Thank you, Sherry!
I actually shook my head in awe at 10:20 That's a beautiful image

andy sheader thanks ever so much.
Insulated Hip waders would have been a perfect addition, to change up a shooting location!

After consuming bad oatmeal, I could see a downside too!
The word 'wheelbarrow' comes to mind.
It's nice that you used a leading line for the composition and the photo has beautiful cool tones. Good job!
Thanks, Nick!

Roughly 15.10% of the Canadian nation are of Scottish descent.

Yeah, I think if there was a big cliff I probably wouldn't venture that close to the edge. Thanks, Twizted Zero!
