Jimmy Stewart "the fella, no the manager!" xD
1:12 - Even the password person can't contain his laughter!!
A better time was when Jack Benny and daughter Joan were the guest players and the Password was "Miser". Allen and Joan cracked up. Jack didn't miss a beat: He gave the clue "Me" (his playing partner didn't get it)
Hostess?
Stewardess?
BAM
Doctor Reason A Goodwin just shot himself!
-fell out of my chair
All those years of Password that I missed because I didn't watch it because I was young and those were adults. Now that I'm a very old adult, my goodness!!! Best kept secret is Password and other game shows during the 50s 60s and into the 70s. And now I can see why Alan Ludden was considered a great host.
??? I started watching Password when I was 5-years-old. I'm sure I didn't understand all the jokes, but I enjoyed the game.
Me...... HAM!!!!!!!
2:06-2:25
Loudest lol I've had in ages. This fellow deserved double the prize for that.
9:08 It's always especially funny to see someone who makes a living making people laugh absolutely crack up.
0:15 when you can't land the plane in Top Gun
In that last one, as soon as the audience started laughing Allen had to yell STOP THE CLOCK three times; here's how it went before the clock was finally stopped:
FIRST TIME: guy who worked the clock couldn't hear him; laughter was too loud.
SECOND TIME: host yelled the command louder; clock guy still couldn't hear him; audience laughter nearly drowned it out.
THIRD TIME: host yelled the command to stop the clock over the audience laughter; clock finally stopped with about 47 seconds left.
After the clock was finally stopped, the host said this:
"You give a clue like that, you leave yourself wide open."
Listen closely, he actually said it 4 times.
8:27 He walked _right_ into that one.
RIP Allen Ludden, Jack Clark, Peter Lawford, Sammy Davis, Jr., Eydie Gorme, Jack Paar, Alan King, Jimmy Stewart, Gloria Stewart, Peggy Cass, Tom Poston, Arlene Francis, Lauren Bacall, and Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., Dorothy Loudon, and Florence Henderson, and Shelley Berman, and Carol Channing.
R.I.P. Betty White. She is at 2:24. How young and beautiful she is in this clip.
I'm sure these people are dying laughing so hard in heaven 🤣🤣
Lawford acquired a lot of debt in his later years including a huge back tax bill. See: 0:38
So much fun!! Thank you for this posting. I'm still laughing.
4:00...It's a family show Arlene! :-P
I just love this show
4:28 For "Host", Peter Lawford gives the highly questionable clue "Hostess", but it is accepted. Then a stage light explodes off-camera with a BANG!
Lawford: "Dr. Reason A. Goodwin just shot himself!"
Apparently the clues were just too much for the good doctor!
They were well-known at the time to be looser with the rules on the Lightning Round :) That said, Peter Lawford's remark was hilarious!!
"Dr. Reason A. Goodwin just sh*t himself" might be the greatest ad lib in history
BANG!
4:31 "Dr. Reason A. Goodwin just shot himself!"
LMFAO
8:27 Savage. =D
Hi friends, watch the espiode of Peter Lawford and Sammy Davis jr. In black and white. They are so funny. One of the best passwords
Pam Hi True to dat
6:12 They were more strict on later versions of Password. "The fella" is clearly a two-word clue.
The moral of this is what the Host says at 8:53. "You give a clue like that, you leave yourself wide open"
And not so close to Passover!
still very funny! thanx for posting!
@gameshowluvr86 Two of Peter Lawford's were the ones I first really fell on the floor over. But, yes, Carol Channing
8:29-"Me"
"Ham"
Pandemonium ensure!
A Ham is a term to describe an excessively theatrical person.
Jacob Fisher That was the best one by a long shot.
Carol's scream was the clincher.
I kinda thought it meant like a Newbie not there yet.
Paar looked like Johnny
Too much fun! wonderful!
Hysterical
That was Jimmy Stewart 💔
that was funny!
Not sure why Carol Burnett is listed in the description, she's not in the video at all. The "Frantic" incident was obviously Carol Channing, as her last name was what finally gave the contestant the right answer.
Carol Burnett is actually the woman you hear laughing in the last clip at the ham answer. She was the female celebrity in the episode opposite Alan King whom you see giving the clues.
So I'm assuming Peter Lawford had tax issues at one point?
The future MRS BRADY!!!!
One classic not on this video was when Jack Benny and daughter Joan were guest. The password was "Miser" (which the audience, Joan and Allen cracked up on). Jack did his classic stare and said "Me!" Even funnier was that the playing partner didn't get it.
The mischievously announced password STUPID was greeted with naughty audience delight when PETER LAWFORD was to give clues to his Rat Pack pal, SAMMY DAVIS, JR. Upon further hearing clues “dummy” and “dumb” Davis apprehensively warned Janet Leigh’s partner Polly Bergen, “If you say SAMMY, I’m leaving.”
1:01 - Is that a young, and for once youthful, Steve Martin?
unlikely, as he wasn't a Harvard student, which Allen referenced
1:09
lol! smoking!
Part I, it's a family show please.
"Ass" XD
I can see why Lauren Bacall would find Whistle funny.
Philip Monihan i dont please explain why
@@caremell To Have and Have Not when she said, "All you have to do is whistle. And you know how to whistle, don't you?"
Philip Monihan “You know how to whistle, don’t ya, Steve? You just pucker your lips together, and blow.”
@@fever_spike That's exactly it.
Why didn't she say lips?
1:07, 4:28, 5:15
Why does it mention Carol Burnett in the description? It was Carol Channing in the "frantic" clip.
I mentioned Carol Burnett for reference regarding the final "ham" clip, as being from an episode where Alan King and Carol were the guest stars. (There's just a glimpse of her hand as Burnett shrieks.)
Plus you can hear Carol shriek in laughter when the contestant said "Ham: That laugh is unmistakable
Rooster.
Rooster?! Stop the clock! 😂😂😂😂😂
Had to listen to this several times to realize Stewart was saying "Hell"... I thought he was saying "Hal. The fella. The manager. Hal. The fella...." I went looking for sports teams with 'Devil' in the name with managers named 'Hal' before I figured it out.
@@boggy7665 OK!!!!
What happened on the 2nd 1
Weird to see them smoking cigarettes during the show.
Buzzr is showing Password Plus this week from 1979, and George Peppard is one of the celebrity players and he is seen on camera frequently puffing away at a cigarette.
Why did he keep sticking with “Hell”?! He should've gone with *DEMON!*
He's James Stewart. He can do whatever he wants. ;-)
4:33 doctor reasoning Goodman just shot himself
Reason A. Goodwin, actually.
Couldn't figure out the reference for Marvelous-->Me. What's the history behind this epic q&a?
Don't think it's a real reference. Just someone trying to be funny and it somehow worked out.
That's Jack Paar, the famously emotional 2nd host of The Tonight Show.
I didn't know there were police officers on game shows @7:05.
Most television tapings have some sort of security or police presence
Do u have anymore?
Of the 20 episodes I last watched, my recommendations are: the PeterLawford/Sammy Davis/Polly Bergen/Janet Leigh episode, and Otto Preminger/Peter Lawford/Pat Carroll.I haven't been watching the wealth of more recently posted “Password” episodes for a “Stop the Clock!” sequel. Out of watching some 20 episodes posted at archive.org in 2015 I may have found a Sammy Davis quip borderline for inclusion. Binge-watching that batch, they over-used the same words, but it's not tee-hee funny seeing “lingerie” or “bikini” every episode, or “stupid” predictably whenever Sammy Davis is paired with Peter Lawford. In February 2017, 20 more episodes were posted at archive.org , which are likely here at YT, too.
I really thought that this was funny and being straight I like this either way. I also like listening to the old radio shows. Is there any chance that you can get more of this type; older game shows or even radio shows. I actually would like it.
who is the other celebrity on the clip with lauren bacall?
Douglas Fairbanks, Jr.
Thank you :)
Jack Paar was being a jerk at 2:02. The contestant had an easy win right there, but Paar had to be a jokester. It's only a fluke the contestant got it and won the round, but the vast likelihood was that he wasn't going to, and then it would have flipped to the other side for 9 points, letting them back in the game.
History seems to dictate that Jack Paar was a bit of a dick in general.
this use to be a classy show what happened to it yuk yuk yuk
"Yuk yuk yuk"? 😄 What's that? 😅
@@DkViking1 It's the end of a bad puchline
@@louistenore2185 It's like "ba dum tss" then I guess. 😃
@@DkViking1 You know who Curly is?
@@witherblaze No I don't. Who's that?
Allen Ludden was a great host, but his "we have to move on" wasn't very professional". Let the audience have a good laugh and stop rushing it!
In those days, the show was live and it was pretty strict to fit into a timeframe. He had to rush a bit more than in the days of syndication when you'd be able to stop tape and cut it to time.
it wasn't until Gene Rayburn (sp) that comedy started happening on game shows
you are, of course, joking

Surprised they allowed smoking from Allen. I know he is a celebrity but still.
