We lost Steve on March 7, 2024. He was incredible singer, actor. He and Eydie stayed married till her death 2013. What a loss!!!.
I believe that Allen greeted his mother-in-law, who was in the audience, with "Hi, Doll!" It happened frequently; so sweet!
His FUTURE mother-in-law, as Allen and Betty weren't married yet. They married in June 1963.
They weren't even MARRIED yet. Nor did they even MEET until she came on Password. I knew it already, but to make others happy (cause I've seen someone else say that), I Googled it again. So no, I highly doubt that he was saying that to his future mother-in-law since he didn't even KNOW here
Steve Lawrence was always so humble about himself. He was always so proud about Eydie too.
I have to say both Allen and Steve looked at Gail. She was pretty reminded me of Eydie.
And I do have to say, Steve Lawrence is pretty cute
I really enjoy watching this game.
Notice how Mister Allen Ludden snubbed Bossa-Nova, at 06:42 (... that Bossa-Nova thing...)
Little did Mr. Ludden know that (besides Eydie Gormé's "Blame it on the Bossa-Nova"):
01. Three months down the road, Ruby and The Romantics would reach Billboard's Hot 100 Number One spot, with their syncopated, Bossa-Nova rendition of "Our Day Will Come", and;
02. The following year (1964), this musical genre would take the United States by storm, with Stan-Getz/Astrud-Gilberto, and "The Girl from Ipanema".
Very cool to see this featuring Steve Lawrence DURING his song, "Go Away Little Girl," an enchanting song I've ALWAYS loved(!); & he's been blessed with that great voice which helped take it to #1!
Mrs. Brady! ❤
I think Florence is one of the best players, she's quick, smart and plays sensibly, I'd rank her with Carol Burnett and Anthony Perkins as the best three. Wouldn't it have been good to see those three play a special password show?
BTW I love the way women dressed in this era, smart, classy and chic but not too elaborate or overdone, or stiff. I loved Florence's simple updo and dress.
I have always hated when the stars laughed and wasted time at the contestants expense especially during the lightning round
The contestant Barbara won $500 after the 2nd lightning round. So given inflation, that $500 in 1963 would be worth $4, 054.67 today.
Florence Henderson 1934-2016
And since Steve Lawrence and his teammate never got to the 5th word when time ran out, it's probably why it wasn't revealed in this instance after that Lightning Round ended.
Steve Byrd and
Now , I thought for SURE Florence Henderson would say Brady for Bunch!
The really funny part of this clip occurs at about 17:00, when Florence Henderson had to get her partner to say, "bunch." Had this show been a few years later, the ideal clue would've been "Brady" ("Brady Bunch" being the title of the series Florence Henderson starred on).
I was thinking about that.
Thanks for the keen observation,
Captain Obvious
@@joeambrose3260 You're certainly snide and unpleasant.
@@karendeaton9297and accurate.
Florence Henderson is a pretty lady
Thanks!
Quite a natural beauty.
Not bad, but she's no Totie Fields
That hair-do was a hair-dont.
Great.
Idents:
Casino (5 seconds)
Formation (6 seconds; partial)
Didn't expect "bolt" to be so hard.
I was 2 years old at that time!
I believe you. Now what ?
That Barbara used a lot of gestures
The dictionary doctor wasn't really needed for bad clues, as seen in later years of Password.
After Florence said train, Steve shoulda said passenger
Wouldn't it be wild if steve said brady for a clue for bunch?? 6 years before that show even existed.
Weren't there supposed to be 5 words in the first lightning round. I only counted 4. Usually they show the 5th word as well. Thoughts?
I thought that she didn't get "mail". She went all the way around it. But they gave her credit for all 5 words.
Florence does look pregnant
There were only four clues, because they never made it to the fifth before the minute was up.
I find it interesting that when words like “bikini,” and “pajamas” come up as Passwords, no one uses “swimwear,” or “sleepwear” as clues. I can only assume that these are new terms that were not in use in this era.
I'm pretty sure the word swimsuit was around then. That's what I thought they would say. Maybe they thought it was two words, like bathing suit.
Yes I was thinking swimsuit, I suppose when you are under pressure something more obvious may slip the net. I thought atoll as well.
Their clues were from a hit song at the time. Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polkadot Bikini.
Funny when I saw bunch I wanted to say Brady lol
So do Allen's children get along with Betty White
Whenever it showed Allen Ludden in closeup, his strong glasses made him look Chinese.
It's too bad the show wouldn't come out for another 6 years, but Florence would have gotten Bunch with the clue, "Brady".
clues for bikini: swimwear, female, beach
I know swimwear is never given. This has been a password more than once on this show.
How foretelling that Florence got the word "Bunch" given the show she would eventually star in.
No shit, Sherlock
@@joeambrose3260 Go away, you unpleasant little man.
Swimsuit !!!!!!!
Right or swimwear!! I thought right away! I thought, was that word not heard back then??
Island
@@m.e.d.7997 It was. On YBYL
Groucho asked a model " Were you born in that swimsuit or was it painted on ?"
@@sst568 ...maybe it would’ve been considered two words instead of one. It’s a compound word and not truly one word clue...it’s...🙂
Wait was that Bob Mackey?
Women were known to be "expecting", never "pregnant".
I got smacked for saying pregnant. And i was talking about the neighbors dog.
That look like a fake audience shot at the beginning.
Swimsuit for bikini
Was this in NY ?
At that time yes.
No, Moscow
@@sst568 You're a riot, Mr Bill. You belong on the stage, the one to Albuquerque
In 1963, practically all tv game shows eminated from New York City.
8:35 Barbara is in the throes of ecstasy
:’(
What a stupidly designed set: people frequently roll backward off the dais.
Only once.
Enjoyable game
Why do we have to sit through that ANNOYING GSN garbage at the beginning?
The game is rigged. Her clue was "basement," and he implausibly answered "bargain." No way.
A bargain basement was a feature of many department stores. Don't judge a show as rigged, because of your own ignorance.
