I has gas cars for 20 years. Changed plugs annually, never altered the gap, never had a problem. Got a diesel now....
Being the only wrench at my job, I maintain a fleet of 40 vehicles, and any nut or bolt that comes off, gets never seize on it. "I" am that NEXT guy !
Kenny UR killin' it with tons of content, and zero fluff space filler vids... keep up the good work
As a millwright for thirty plus years and working on many things including tractor cars, machines, and everthing related, I aways thought someone would follow me to repair what I worked on.And I too keep my vehicles till they're dust.Good job Kenny.
30 years ago I bought plugs gapped at 60 for my 84 mustang. Lost all high end power. Flame was blowing out. Gapped at 35 picked power back up. It made a difference
you must have had a spark arcing from a wire somewhere, yes a smaller gap will turn that into a non problem, I was working at a Cadillac dealer in the 80s when GM tried .080 gap plugs misfires every day, the fix was .060 plugs
@@JimSix-jo6hf no. It was just the gap alone
.060 will fire on a lot of things, especially the hei. However, it basically eats ignition components like the coil and can overwork the module as well due to the voltage requirements. .040 to .045 is the sweet spot for a lot of ignition systems. Naturally aspirated of course. Motors with some “power adders” do better with like .035 to not blow out the spark.
Oh, you'll really love those new 8.1 mounts with the heat shield blocking most of the fasteners. And yes, iron heads
Thank you for taking the time and film your repairs.i know it can add alot of time to the job
Nice job Kenny, once again. When you showed us that plug the first time, the first thing that came to my mind was it was blowing oil. I'm with you on that, the rings. They make products you can use to try and clean and free them up, but it's a long shot. On the old rides I would use an oil burning plug or just a hotter spark plug and keep going. I also was going to comment on these wire covers or whatever you call them. Can't they think of something better? Geech, how many years have they used that failing product. Engineers, don't get me started.
Ever get one of those ratchets that dont quite work right and you have in a tight place. Then all the sudden your Yosemite Sam cursing!? LOL🙃
I agree about spark plug gap, it is more important to have the electrode square and flat so the spark is not always in the same place, also different brands may have a different gap for the same application, just look at them for damage and leave them alone
The concern over the gap is a hold over from non-computer controlled ignitions and non-fuel injection engines. No longer an issue as you state.
I have a few G Bodies and change the plugs through the wheelwells, especially the right side.
Congrats on 100K Kenny
I haven’t heard Kenny say “ don’t go bananas “ lately.
The Chevy 8.1 is a Brute. Had one in a 03 3500 Dually. It was a pain in the a@@ to work on. Sad they stopped making them.
The S10s,S10 Blazers,GMC Jimmys and Sonomas with the 4.3,go through the wheel well too changing plugs in.The passenger side are easy to get to.The middle one on the drivers side, steering shaft in the way either unbolting the steering shaft or the steering box.I keep an old boot off a plug wire as a spark plug starter starting the plugs in the hole
I love the sound of a v 8 always will .
Used to have a 76 trans am 400 I went through the wheel well to change the spark plugs much easier.
All metal to metal stuff should get it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You know can I agree with you I didn't put any anti-seize on the plugs and I ripped the threads out on a Toyota 2.4 never listen to him again
Im only 41 and I'm always forgetting where I put tools or parts down at.. Maybe too much partying and racing might have done it when i younger still race but not partying 😊
Dont go bananas with the gap!
A little dab’ll do you!
When should change the spark plugs an wires
That black&white ground wire looks suspect.
If the plug gap was not important, the manufacturer would not cite a specification. It's like saying the tire inflation isnt important
Most auto trans problems are usually not auto trans problems. It often comes down to a bad sensor or engine performance issues.
Bet that oiled plug was due to the dod
Need to send you a pic of the plugs i pulled out of a Honda. They had just over quarter million miles on them. Still looked decent
Hello Mr Kenny, hope all is well and you had a wonderful day. 😊 Tell Mrs Kenny I said hello. Thank you for the great videos Sir.😄👍
Could be less hours to pull the wheels and liners to get to plugs
Spec it out.run the numbers
Kenny love your videos,But I have a question for you . Why do the head lights go off when you turn on your blinker? On the new cars .I was driving at night and came up to this car that was going to turn in front of me , and it would of been easier to see them if the light wound have stayed on.
If its one side, its so you can see the indicator without the headlight washing it out. I kinda like the, what i call, winking headlight for turn signals. Now if both go out for a turn signal, theres a wiring or computer issue.
Install new wire loop protector on annoying wires hanging down??
How about replacing the wire loom? 11:30.
A little dab will do ya.
Add Yamaha ring free to the gas tank, it might help🎉
Two bottles didn't make a difference with my oil burner. Next is seafoam.
I’m getting to the age where I will hire a mechanic to fix my car.
Your eyecromiter is off by at least 1 or 2 thousands
