An AWESOME display of this monster sized Yak-54 by Steve Carr at the East Kirkby Large Model Association Show 2017.
Wingspan: 180 in (4.58M)
Wing Area: 6290 sq in (40580sq cm)
Fuselage length: 161 in(4.1M)
Weight: empty weight with hardware 65.9 lbs (29.9kg)
Engine: 400cc min (Self designed/built 550cc engine used by Steve Carr)

That's the first video I've seen of a Steve Carr plane that didn't break apart during the flight.

Just spend the extra money and make one you can get in and go wherever you want to go.
I was thinking the same, a little bigger and he could fly IN it instead of just flying it.
Rc is about building and flying. doing things you cant do with a full size plane. Its not about flying to a destination.
Why? This is way cooler….. and safer

Is the engine a 550cc flat four cylinder? I had a 50% Edge 540, wingspan 4.40m I believe. I had a 300cc flat four cylinder engine in it but never managed to get the engine running right. Everything truly slows down when the airplanes get this big but the pucker factor also grows exponentially. Nice flying, would like to have seen the inverted flat spin transitioning into high alpha rolling, to me a natural end to the flat spin.
Wow!! That is one impressive plane. I would think you could put a person in it. Did he turn the 400cc into a 550cc engine? It definitely has the power. As always filming was done professionally. Great job

My dad built RC models,,, I decided that for the cost,, with a little more $$ I could ride in my airplane builds. .
i was wondering which servos that plane needs cause your huge size.
why dont you take a c152 and make that radio control. only a few more feet long
If you are going to build a plane this big, then just build it a bit bigger so a human can fit in it.

It's possible, but FAA would like to have a word with you after you land.
Wouldn't it be so cool to have a full size sport plane like this with a power to weight ratio of like 2 to 1.... That would be awesome....
They are pretty close now the limitation is the pilot can't take anything close to the g load these guys fly at your body would totally shut down.
Why not build one you can fly in?
Because RC is something completely different. This particular guy does also fly full size aeroplanes.

what sort of engine does a plane need to power a RC that large
550cc custom engine built by the owner several years ago. 3W and a few other companies make big engines for RC now

You are obviously a wayyyyy better cameraman than average, but you really should do something about the wind noise. I mean REALLY do something. All it needs is a little piece of something 'fluffy'. I used a piece of the wrist band from a fur glove. Works a treat. It makes it so uncomfortable to listen to/watch otherwise. Shame really because everything else is pretty good. Yak-54 was not made to hover - not natural. Get a very large chopper & hover all day long.
RC would be very boring if they just flew scale all the time Roger. No human passenger so they can do this type of stuff with no risk. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
