Following the instructions in this video I was able to upgrade the stock opamps in the E600 headphone amp to the recommended EAKLIAM LC5 class A discrete opamps. Wow, my first technical operation ever! The stock opamps from Texas Instruments sounded very good, neutral and engaging, but I couldn’t wait any longer to hear the LC5’s. Before starting I had already bought a 161-piece (bit) screwdriver to be sure to have the right bit to open the case. Check! Thanks to the clear explanation in the video it should be very easy to stick the opamps with pin 1 in the corresponding position in the socket. Only, there was initially not enough space around to accomodate these big monsters. Huh? After watching the video again I noticed for the first time that the two black ‘licorice rods’ which were standing in the way, had made a small bend to give the LC5’s a bit more room. Aha! I did this bending very carefully by hand, hoping for the best. Cover plate screwed back on top and… Bingo! After only a few hours of playing it started to sound better and better. I am very familiar with the typical sound of Class A amplifiers. It is not just about fast, direct, snappy, exciting and engaging, for me it is more about being absorbed in the enchanting beauty and richness of the sound. This is what these LC5 opamps bring to the audience. Wonderful, most wonderful! Mission accomplished. Thank you very much, Mr. Hifi Zone!

Hi again! I just posted my experience with replacing the stock opams in the E600 headphone amp as a new post in the comments section of your instructions video. I have thanked you twice before - third time's a charm - but now I've earned a cup of coffee or beer for myself too. One for you, One pin(t) for me. Phew! :-)

Thank you so much for this very clear explanation. Just thinking about it made me break out in a cold sweat. But the way you explain it, it actually makes it very easy. Thanks to the very instructive video footage, I will be able to perform this swap upgrade - without blinking an eye... Wow!

Thanks for the video! After watching it I proceeded to replace the stock JRC 55320 for the LC5 on the TPA3255 monblocks. First listening: more bass authority with them, voices are more natural but mids and highs are now less pronounced/detailed. Did the sound signature change after the initial hours for you?

Like many others i would like to hear your impressions of the various op amps you have. At the moment I am looking at op amps from Akliam and various op amps sold by Audiophonics who sell a large selection. Are op amps specific to class A or D or can they be used in either?
    Keep up the good work.

@@aurallychallenged Hi! Yes I will do videos on my collection as these will be short and easy to make. Opamps are not class dependent, these are small amplifiers on their own, however there are a couple of important things to know when rolling opamps. I should probably do a video on that too, as this would help to understand following opamp reviews. Noted!

Depends on the circuit and currents. Best case is nothing happens, no sound. Worst case - no sound, yes, but also some smoke effects ;)
