    We have a 2003 Toyota Corolla that has done 183,000 miles, and it has all of the original parts still working perfectly. We might buy a new one soon though.

    I like these. I like how they look. It is a quality car that does not pretend to be anything it is not. I like the interior a lot. It drives like a quality car. Hoping to pick up a pre owned 2015 with very low miles soon.

    It's amazing how the Civic is suddenly getting all this love, when just months ago it was bashed to high hell. And the "refresh" didn't do much. The interior is better, but still cheap and ungainly, the 5-speed auto is still there, and it drives much the same as the 2012 with a slightly quieter ride and slightly stiffer ride.

    The rear looks like a baby camry! And I love the improved interior. Glad they added leather option now

  • @palebeachbum
    @palebeachbum 11 лет назад

    Looks so much better than the former and the interior is very attractive and distinctive. The Corolla was a fine car, but a very old and tired design. This new version is desperately needed. I just hope the seat is far more comfortable as the old one was poorly contoured and hard.

    I thought Toyota was losing their way with offering more cutting edge exterior design, but I am so glad I can still buy a Corolla with a 4 speed auto, torsion beam rear suspension, and rear drum brakes.

    I'm not sure what you mean. The only thing carry over is the engine. Body, interior, and transmission are all new. What Honda did for 2012 was refresh the interior and some exterior sheet metal on the same vehicle.

    What I mean by them being in their high efficiency forms is that almost all the manufacturers of compact cars like these are creating packages that are designed to get better MPG than their standard counterparts. The Elantra was the only car in that comparison that did not come in a high economy guise since it does not have one. What I was trying to say is a 5sp Focus SE would be a strong competitor with the Mazda 3 or Corolla.

  • @MalamIbnMalam
    @MalamIbnMalam 11 лет назад

    I agree that is one thing that still upsets me with Toyota and Hondas small car segment. It is as if they are afraid of adding more potent engines as an option. What's wrong with adding the Accord 4cyl as an option to the Civic or the Camry 4cyl as an option to the Corolla. The New Mazda 3 has done so, the top engine is the 4cyl found in the 2014 Mazda 6.

  • @revmotor

    Toyota's going to have no problem selling this brand new Corolla. They keep updating and building upon its strengths.

  • @lowincash

    Good question. That we'll have to see in the long run since this new 3 is built from the ground up, away from the ford platform.

  • @MalamIbnMalam

    I live in California where cars are always in top condition (as opposed to the midwest and east coast where cars are exposed to snow and salt on the ground during Winter). You would expect Mazda cars to look brand new, but when you see them a 2004 Mazda 3 always looks old same with Mazda 6. Whenever I see a Toyota or Honda or even Nissan (although I think Mazda >>> Nissan), their paint always looks brand new. I mean shoot I see Toyotas and Hondas from the 90s looking like they are in top shape.

  • @crackaddict444

    No, I'm just someone that actually has driven every single car in this class, rather than just going by what biased auto rags say. I do not own a Corolla so have no dog in this fight.

    I have a 2003 Toyota, the paint still looks relatively new (I do wash it on a bi-weekly basis, and wax as well at my local car wash). Maybe that is why after 10 years, the paint still looks new. Maybe it has more to do with the owner i'm guessing? If the new Mazda3 wasn't so expensive and had LED standard headlights I would want to get that instead of the Corolla. From what I can see, the Mazda is only superior by engine and possibly handling.

    The 4 speed will likely only be found on rental lots and fleets. I can guarantee the CVT will be the volume seller and most plentiful on the dealer lot.

    Though I've never been a fan of Toyotas, I always give credit when credit's due. They have a winner on their hands with this car. It's going to sell like crazy and is 200% better looking than the outgoing model. Finally, Toyota gives a crap about one of their most important models. Now, all that's left to step it up is the Jetta and Cruze.

  • @MalamIbnMalam
    @MalamIbnMalam 11 лет назад

    It used to be true about looks, new Corolla looks nice though. But you are right that Mazda does have better performance. But one would expect that because the Mazda3 is the most expensive car when priced with worthy options by far.

  • @Moyerboy78
    @Moyerboy78 11 лет назад

    It's a compact...economy car...that has sold millions....they can't be doing too much wrong with the Corolla formula all these years. It's about as exciting as an Elantra, Civic or Cruze....none of those scream performance either, but are all nice competant cars that get from point A to B, which is what most of America is looking for.

  • @crackaddict444

    A new 7-speed CVT and Valvematic engine don't count as updating the engine and transmission to you?

  • @abcd827
    @abcd827 11 лет назад

    I agree with you on interior quality in general. It seems like from the early 2000's to a couple years ago car interiors went to s***, but the models that are new for 2012 and later seem to be bringing back quality materials, and I mean that for all car makers. I sat in a few of these and the interior was way better than the previous model.

    I used to have a Jetta myself. I love the interior of the Jetta, but the exterior look is bland and the reliability puts me off buying another one. I eventually had to sell it for a low price because many of the parts failed. Now I bought a new mazda3 and love it.

  • @alicomputertech

  • @wnnarace

    If you continued through the reply chain I was not trying to say the Corolla is the slower car. I was making the point that the Jetta is as fast as a Corolla.

  • @abcd827
    @abcd827 11 лет назад

    Typically the paint thickness is the same on lower end and higher end vehicles from the factory. Sometimes premium paints on luxury vehicles will have an additional layer of color base or have the color and flake sprayed separately, but thicker film can lead to problems on its own.

    I have never driven a car with a cvt, but from what i have heard, they are unreliable. Honestly, i have a 13 corolla, with a four speed auto, and i think i prefer the four speed to the cvt... it may be old, but its good, and reliable.

    From someone that's not loyal to any car brand in particular, I too think the new mazda3 is better than the corolla in almost every way. From looks to performance to fuel efficiency. Corolla just doesn't wow anymore, actually never did =/ It's a car I'll get my mom or grandma so I don't have to worry about them. Since the 3 is new from ground up, away from the ford platform, we'll have to see how reliable this car is in the long run. Don't get offended now, I'm just saying.

    I would have appreciated it more if Toyota hadn't BS'd everyone and just said they were making a new version of their comfy reliable compact. This is turning out the same as what Honda did with the 2012 Civic. Big drastic promises but nothing really changed. Honesty would be a nice courtesy.

  • @wnnarace

    The Jetta GLI is in a different class than a Toyota Corolla S. Sure it is the same size as the Corolla but its built with a powertrain that is meant to compete with cars like the Ford Focus ST. I actually feel bad that out of all the other cars in that price range you decided on a GLI. If you spent the time researching the actual alternatives to the GLI instead of a Corolla S, you may have been able to pick a car you found more enjoyable.

    I may trade my 2005 Toyota Corolla LE for the new one I love the new style. I love the efficiency of my current Corolla with a average of 35 mpg and as high as 48 mpg on the highway. So with the Corolla LE ECO model getting 42 MPG I would love to have a updated car. Even though my 2005 still runs like new.

  • @bliglum

    Is the green color on the car featured in this review not available where you live?
    Honestly, I don't think the limited color choices are going to deter your typical corolla buyer.. Seeing as how Corolla buyers aren't really looking to make a bold statement, just nice basic transportation.. Let's face it, if they where looking for a bright, flashy car, they're not going to be looking at Corolla anyways! ; ).

  • @enemay
    @enemay 11 лет назад

    Hey Corolla lovers, I like the Corolla but I am more of a Mazda 3 and Civic guy. Anyhow I just want to say, I actually find the previous Gen Corollas exterior to be better looking than this and at one point actually considered it the better looking of the segment around maybe 2008 or 09, but I think the interior of this is much better. Despite being wider and apparently lower this Corolla just looks more of a toy than the previous one, which actually looked sporty and serious.

  • @MalamIbnMalam

    I always wondered why people go on Toyota pages and type comments like "yawn". If they had more interesting things to do, they wouldn't do that, so "yawn" is the only activity they do in life.
    I DO REALIZE that some people are upset about the styling, but it's not that serious as to where a person must habitually comment on all videos about it.

    When People say they have no interest in the Corolla, then comment on all of it's videos. I wonder
    There is nothing wrong with liking the Civic or 3 or Jetta. Just don't say It will mop the floor with the Corolla, because at the end of the day If it could do that, you wouldn't have to mention it on every video. Let the stats speak for themselves. Stop stereotyping Corolla buyers.

    I think this is fine for the mass-volume market, but Toyota needs to offer at least a sporty trim that mates the manual to the larger engine found in the TC with suspension upgrades. That's where Toyota has fallen down in the last ten years. Do something for the enthusiast for goodness sake!!

    True. I like how Toyota and Lexus owners claim that people who drive MBZ, Audi or BMW buy because of the badge yet many Toyota owners are guilty of the same. Usually I think the S looks better than the base models, however for this new gen the base actually looks better. The front of the S is pretty ugly. Overall not as bad looking as when I first saw it, guess it's grown on me a bit. Same low key vanilla, not too flashy and well, boring as before, just different looking boring. I'm sure a lot of people who buy this car don't care for the looks or (lack of) power. I'm glad I'm not one of those.

    The Mazda 3 is a product, just like the 2014 Corolla. The Mazda is a nice car, but the company cares just as little as Toyota about "exciting" cars. They ALL want to sell cars, as cars are commodities.
    The new Corolla is very nicely styled. It is Sports-conservative on purpose and it actually has more lines than the 3. They all cater to young people, so Toyota wouldn't have an interest in building a "boring" car. People have different likes, NOT NECESSARILY bad tastes.

    I assume you mean Mazda 3, because in other respective car categories, Mazdas do not perform better than Toyota/Honda/Nissan. In fact In Midsize Sedans, The Camry is second to none with a 0 - 60 time on it's V6 of 5.5 seconds. Also, Corollas and Civics are no longer cheap. To get any of those cars fully loaded you are paying anywhere in the $22k - $25k range. Pretty pricey if you ask me.

    No -- the complacency of incumbent sales leaders and the innovation of other manufacturers is what makes the world go round.
    I'd be happy to let the stats speak for themselves: Toyota has gone from 17% to 14% US market share over the past 4 years. And I'll bet that before the Corolla goes through it's next major update, it will have lost market share to its competitors.

    looking at if from the front it looks ok, like a step up in the right direction... from the back it look like its trying to dress like the 2011 Kia Optima SX.. from the side it looks like it wants to have curves but its not happening especially with that angle on the back door window
