Man, I remember seeing those auto rack trains every morning on Busch on my way to school. And seeing how awful my experience at school usually was, that was usually the highlight of my day, and I'm not even that big of a railfan.
Danny, you have the best video's i've ever seen. I think that it might be that you give a thorough detailed explanation of information to further educate us train buffs including my children. Train i.d., Point of origin, destination, the manifest of what its transporting, signals, Location, I mean you cover everything!! and that's what makes a good video. Thank you for the education and keep them coming!! Florida's sun rail is getting ready to take off by the way!!...hint hint
Okay, I'm arriving late to the party, but I recognized Paul Newtson right away. I lived almost across the road from the tracks in Clearwater for a year before I moved back to Maryland and enjoyed watching the rail activity.
Thanks for your videos. All of them are great, and this one is no exception. The narration is what does it for me. I live right there a couple blocks from the Ocala station and have all my life. I know a lot of spots up north of ocala thru anthony, sparr, citra, and then to the alachua/marion county line. I'll be glad to put you on them.
WBill Bailey you ever have anything nice to say on this Page? The Riverfront isn't everything you expected we get it. Go back 10 years and it was a 1980's time capsule full of run down derelicts people only drove by. We've got 3 multi story hotels erected in just the last 5 years. That's an accomplishment to be proud of. It's only a matter of time now before we see more residential development. This town deserves to be pulled out of the 1950's barge canal flop of a mistake that's kept this City from competing with the rest of North East Florida.Bill Bailey you ever have anything nice to say on this Page? Danny, this one's great. Even though it's a potpourri of footage from around the years, it still all comes together for one great compilation. I've got day and days worth of footage I've never dealt with, maybe I should consider making a video like this or two...
Love your videos and the excellent commentary that goes with them. Would love to spend a day railfaning with someone who knows the area so well. Scott H. Bradenton fl
Good old Charlie tore up our condo in Ft. Myers Beach. Thanks to a really sharp manager it was repaired within 6 months. I never realized how it affected the CSX operations until now.
My mom got stuck at the crossing at Busch by O-700 she was amazed by the length and variety of cars. I wonder why CSX seemed to always have derailments in the mid 2000's.
@maintguy69 Ohhh... So from what I gather it's similar to Occupancy Control System (OCS) up here in Canada. OCS is a system of where the RTC (Rail Traffic Controller) gives a train a clearance (lead locomotive and direction) for a train to enter OCS territory; OCS is practically dark territory and the RTC cannot see on his screen where the train is. OCS is also given by radio. However, there are some OCS that operate with block signals as well.
I have seen only once in the last several months any rail cars at Plant City Steel. I'm wondering if they are taking in shipments via truck nowadays...
That train collision at Vitis Junction, FL at 5:52 Both the conductor and engineer of the northbound train based out of Miami, Florida and the turn around point was Baldwin, Florida. Correct? The conductor of the southbound train was based out of Bartow, FL and the engineer of that southbound was based out of Baldwin, FL. Correct?
Mr.Hartman,i just started watching your videos, and i am i did,i didnt know a train engineer had to know so much about signals, speed ,i also didnt know a train was measured in feet, before i started watching your videos ,i usually just counted the engines,i thought the length of the train, was determined by the engines it had, like i said,im glad i found your U-tube channel, since i started watchjng,i was wondering, did you work for any rail compines before retiring?any way keep doing what youre doing, its very, very interesting ,and educational, look forward for more videosNo
Awesome video! Things certainly have changed over the years. Even the B36-7's, as shown at 5:00 are all gone as of December 2009. As for the derailment on November 29th 2004. Its very sad that someone had to die in the crash. In the video, it appears as these kinda derailments are not so uncommon, i really hope that's not true.
Holy smokes! that is great footage there, esp of that derailment. Damn CSX track maintenance. Seriously their tracks are suspect. Should take lessons from NS. oh and GP60s are AWESOME!!!!!! nice catch!
More than likely, leaser power will return to CSX rails because of the current oil boom, but there is a more than likely chance that leasers won't make it down to Florida. The only reason CSX is getting leasers is because they're using more power than they have to use.
@maintguy69 The only thing I see common between control systems between the US and Canada is the CTC system, however, after studying the Canadian Rail Operating Rules, I find that the US signals are more complicated. I know for CN and CP, the CROR doesn't apply down in the States. Once that boarder is crossed, it's either the NORAC rules or the GCOR rules that apply, depending on where you cross the boarder.
nope, dont miss CR locos. 1st CR loco i ever saw was 3091 GP40, btw , it was also the first CR blue engine. i saw it in carlisle, ohio may 1976. the problem i have with CR is the utter devastation to predecessor lines here in the ohio area. lines torn up everywhere. screw big blue.
always wanted to say this, but wow, all that TONS of rolling steel, tossed like toys into a BUILDING, WOW thank god danny wasnt hurt, and thank god nobody was hurt. just wierd to see TRAIN CARS, TOSSED, like toys. scary sometimes.
Man, I remember seeing those auto rack trains every morning on Busch on my way to school. And seeing how awful my experience at school usually was, that was usually the highlight of my day, and I'm not even that big of a railfan.
It amazes me that with train traffic in Florida drops from 60-80 trains in Jacksonville to barely 15-20 trains once south of there.

I remember Charlie, greetings from Orlando
Great video Danny, nice to see all them spartan cabs operating on manifests back in the day before widecabs took over.
Wow, nice catch with that YN3 painted C39-8 7483 on the train at Crawford. They were retired not long after this.
Great video, Danny! Great to see the various CSX footage, especially the older videos.
Jesse Ferguson Thanks Jesse! Much appreciated. I'll send you my email address.DH
Danny your videos rock

Nice catch on the GP60!
The headlight betrays it as an ex-Southern Pacific unit.
Excellent Video Danny! I still miss the lease power CSX seemed to always have and I can't wait for the S-Line intermodals.
Keep the video's coming.
Fascinating video and informative commentary. 5 stars !
2020 this video is still hot
Way cool Danny. more, more more please!!!
Danny, this one's great. Even though it's a potpourri of footage from around the years, it still all comes together for one great compilation. I've got day and days worth of footage I've never dealt with, maybe I should consider making a video like this or two...
That flagger at 2:18 is the same man who rode the Newtson Florida Special in May 2014. It's one of Danny's newest videos!

I love your commentary. Very informative.

Another video watched and enjoyed.
Good old Charlie tore up our condo in Ft. Myers Beach. Thanks to a really sharp manager it was repaired within 6 months. I never realized how it affected the CSX operations until now.
Thanks, now I'll finally know what YN stood for. Was never able to figure it out, course I never really put it on the top of the list, but thanks.
Wow! What a great video! Loved the narration! Great Job, reaaly enjoyed it!
My mom got stuck at the crossing at Busch by O-700 she was amazed by the length and variety of cars. I wonder why CSX seemed to always have derailments in the mid 2000's.
It sure is nice to look back on where we've been!
Alex
Excellent Video Danny. I hope you have more hodgepodge of stuff laying around to put on video.
Caught that last engine in Plant City at the junction back in 2015 but not sure if it was the same number
excellent video as always danny

Cool shots Danny, Always an enjoyment watching your videos 5*****
Great video!
Good commentary and good voice
where is part 1 of this video? great video
I have seen only once in the last several months any rail cars at Plant City Steel. I'm wondering if they are taking in shipments via truck nowadays...
Should have done close-ups of the track crossing. But I know they do not show enough engines and rail cars.
Hey, it's Paul Newtson! What are the odds that you would see him again on a PV?!
Nice package, Danny.
my grandparent live in Waldo i rail fanned that Amtrak station before...
i'm supposed to be going there this summer....
I wish this video is 2000000 hours

Nice video .............?
hey the second train that is shown take a look at second locomotive 7483
What do you mean the railroad runs backwards for a while?
More than likely, leaser power will return to CSX rails because of the current oil boom, but there is a more than likely chance that leasers won't make it down to Florida. The only reason CSX is getting leasers is because they're using more power than they have to use.
The leasers have returned
So Danny, who was the train you shot at 7:15 with the CONRAIL DASH-8 leading?
wish we could turn back the time to the good old days...
CSX2665 probably long gone but I know what you mean

CSX C39-8 at 0:56... woah
The voice, the voice! Absulutely hilarious... blahblahblah.... :)
Where's Waldo. Oh I found him. He's in Florida. Haha
That's what happens when you pass a signal at danger (SPAD). You get a train wreck. Great video! No, I'm not British.
Hopefully when those GP-60's are retired, one will be saved and restored to the EMD demo colors.
5:53 Shows The CSX Trains Crash Some Units Were Scrapped Or Repaired
What does DTC stand for? I'm not too familiar with the American side of the railroads.
Do you miss seeing Ex-Conrail locos? Never saw one.
nope, dont miss CR locos. 1st CR loco i ever saw was 3091 GP40, btw , it was also the first CR blue engine.
i saw it in carlisle,ohio may 1976.
the problem i have with CR is the utter devastation to predecessor lines here in the ohio area.
lines torn up everywhere. screw big blue.
@distantsignal Ran, and than kept rolling because there was an empty gon sitting right behind me.
always wanted to say this, but wow, all that TONS of rolling steel, tossed like toys into a BUILDING, WOW thank god danny wasnt hurt, and thank god nobody was hurt. just wierd to see TRAIN CARS, TOSSED, like toys. scary sometimes.
That line into Plant City Steel no longer exists. The switch leads were removed.
Yep. They took it out two or three years ago.
Distant Signal no they removed it in 2018.
Is that the same Newtson that had the special charter waggons for his 40th birthday that you have a video on?
Yes, I think it is.
2:15, CSX executives are not afraid to do ground work, nice.
1:13, love the diamond intersection
0:20,bnsf and fax locomotive
@AmtrakFlorida Ran.
Did enjoyed this one😎
Seeing an imminent crash, it's easy to forget that the safest choice is to stay inside the train cab.
CSX is damned!
I was born on 2006
3:19 - I thought the gates were supposed to go down when they don't have any power
