I must admit quite a few years ago when Slate started putting out a lot of this gear, I thought the guy came off as very cocky and I sort of looked forward to watching him go by the wayside, but I now am a big fan. In fact, I'm pretty blown away in general at the quality and quantity of his work. I have been a long time UA fan, got quite a few pieces of their hardware, and thousands of dollars in just plugins alone, but they should see Steven Slate looming ever closer in their mirror. Honestly I think the guy is the next Neve, he's just changing everything, and his timing is perfect. Like it or not, the industry is going to "in the box" for many reason, money among the most basic, and Slate is fixing a major problem in that "conversion" for many-----plugins that truly can perform at such a level the difference between them and the actual hardware is impossible to detect in a blind listening test. I would put many of these plugins up against my best UA plugins, anyway, and in many cases, I find I am opting for the Slate offerings over my long treasured UA gear/plugins. Just amazing, and the price is the thing that is really nuts. I purchased the monthly "everything" bundle and was just blown away, so much so I am ordering not only the Virtual Mic system just released (Sweetwater $999) AND two Raven units (Sweetwater $999)----so for 3k, I am getting what by all accounts is an outstanding option for mics AND a whole new way of editing and mixing via the Raven units----which are truly just badass, I loved the idea when I saw them at NAMM, but when I saw them being used in an actual studio, I went home and placed my order for two units (you have to pre-order, they will be shipped late summer:( Hats off to Slate Digital, sympathies to UA, Waves, et al, sorry guys, you are going to have to majorly step up your collective games.
Just used the modern blue on my slap bass tracks. Bass has dual coil pups with aguilar onboard preamp. I found i was over eq-ing my bass. Now, just vcc, pre, and modern blue. Double tracked with lift (just a touch) added on one of the 2 tracks. Bussed to an aguilar cab sim. Kills it! These videos are indispensable. Thank you Mr. Slate.

"well tell me whatever happened to forever, tell me you still can't picture me and you together..." Sorry if this was already answered, but who is the vocalist? Song title?
*stares longingly at air eq modules* Awesome stuff though guys. Really stoked to use these! The everything bundle is proving to be the best value I've found in a very long time!
I fought the subscription model for awhile. Back when Adobe went that route I cringed. My brother in law is a graphic artist and he had also fought the idea until he went all in. Now he raves about not having to worry about purchasing the big upgrade packages…they just happen. So I took a dive into the plug-in pool and got the Slate All Access Pass. THAT was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Not only do I get these great products from a cutting edge company, I get the most current versions as soon as they are released and every new plugin that gets released as well. Being able to access my plugins on any of my work stations via the iLok Cloud has made working away from home stress-less. I have to admit, the 1st time I saw Steven present one of his plugins I was skeptical! I though “Who does this guy think he is? He’s laying on the “cool” factor a bit thick!” But after awhile I came to realize that Steven and his team are some of the most hard working folks in the biz. The passion is infectious and I have come to appreciate their business model and forward thinking attitude.
Another nice feature would be a link between the input and output so you can increase or decrease compression with constant gain. It should be selectable off and on.
Two questions: All-buttons-in mode? And is the meter switchable, so you can view Output level and not just Gain Reduction? That's something I do all the time to view apparent volume increase. Demo sounds GOOD!
I like having that too David! Since DAWs have the metering post insert (usually) it is very easy to get modestly accurate gain variances there. When you need/want ultra accurate metering, just insert a good PPM post everything else on the bus. I like Brainworx bx Meter. Have fun, this sounds pretty good!
+John Chase I'm old school: I like seeing the VU ballistics (even if in "digital form") on the compressor itself. But thanks for the comment. Interestingly, he never went beyond 4:1 in the demo. I would've added 2:1 to the Modern version, as 4:1 is sometimes TOO aggressive. But definitely a fan of the slower attack. Kudos, Slate!
Slate has a free VMR module coming that is a simulation of the 1176 with all buttons in. He's modified it to sound better too. It's called The Monster. Also he has a Distressor coming caled FG-Swiss you can google images of those names to see what they look like.
The price for the "everything bundle", as of this writing ( October 2016) is $14.99. Even though I already owned the VCC collection, I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the everything bundle. Fifteen bucks a month to have nearly all the VST's I could ever want? And that are VST's that sound great? Ya... no-brainer there. Along with additions they included last year, like the various 1176's, and the Eiosis EQ's, Slate has also recently developed and announced some very cool plugs that are coming soon, and that will automatically be included in the bundle as well; a Distressor emulation, a reverb and a delay plug. The only thing missing that I feel would make the Slate collection truly complete ( in my opinion) would be a great Pultec emulation plug; of both the EQP1 and the MEQ5 series. I've used other manufacturers Pultec style plugs, ( Waves, T-Racks, Softube) and some do sound very good, but so far they all seem to fall somewhat short of the real thing sonically...I don't know... just thinking out loud here...maybe Pultecs are a few examples of gear that can't ever be emulated? I know that if Fabrice can't do it, then no one can. ;) - IMO, of course.
+Miroslava Trtekova I hear that too. I think it's probably just a bright mic with a voice that has a lot of high frequency content. I get it sometimes when I use my MXL Genesis FET - which is a really bright mic.
What's the difference between this compressor and DAW built-in compressors from FL Studio and Ableton? Any honest opinions on this? Or is this just marketing?
Slate Blue model at least two versions of the UA 1176 it has a different behaviour and saturation than the one in Ableton or FL. Ableton does have a world class compressor though The Glue made by Cytomic. Get the demo Put the FG-116 on the drum bus turn the release fully to the right and the attack fully to the left then turn input and mix to taste it will put a smile on your face.
I was pissed about you guys moving the goalpost for 3 months following NAMM with these things...but I can't stay mad at you. This is great work. I'm in the studio tomorrow so I can install my copy.
Nice video! My only question is workflow. Preamp > Comp > Eq > Eq again? It might be wiser and less redundant this way: Preamp > Eq > Comp > Eq again. May seem like I'm nitpicking but Eqing into the compressor helps the compressor do it's job better.
take care you are thinking of signing the digital slater, their support is not good, I signed for a year and is giving out expired, I contacted the support but they do not respond
+SlateTV Oh jeez. I don't remember reading about that in the PDF guide... maybe I overlooked it. Now I can make a bit more sense of what I'm doing, haha. In this case, I just kept tweaking till it sounded good, and I always found myself gravitating to the release at 7.00 and the attack at 1.00... I was so confused by that, thinking the attack was super fast - how could it possibly be pushing transients out like that... Now I understand. Thanks slate! Love you long time.
+Aaron Christopher The 1176s work the other way around, the number has nothing to do with ms like on other compressors. It is counterintuitive but think of it like the more you turn something up the "more" fast you get. So 7.00 is always fastest for attack AND release.
Cheers Steven. It just keeps coming, how do you do it? All these superb 99% accurate emulations, candy on our mix, niiice! Everything we could have ever wished for really, can't thank you enough. Note to anyone wondering... forget "Waves" plugins, not only are they not accurate, but you have to deal with their shitty software protection crap which often trips-over and causes issues, thus interfering with your precious mix time. Get the real-deal, Slate Plugins, on reliable efficient iLok 2. All we need now from Steven is an emulation of the Vintage and Modern LA2A, then we'll really be cooking with oil.
Nice. Since I appreciate every penny I do not have to waste on the criminals of any energy company it seems I can left another piece of hardware switched off in the future.

Steve, you're getting better at these voiceover demos. Much more natural, and it sounds like you're having a little more fun.
+Dan Bieranowski Except that reverb.... can't concentrate on the words hahaha. Not sure why.
These plugins are legit.. His voice is so damn soothing! haha
Steve should be in some action movies. He could be good in films.
Steven.
Any chance you guys would consider doing a DBX 165a?
Cheers
As always, Steven, you continue to release the best stuff when it's ready. Slate Digital is one company I'm always proud to support.

I've always found the metering a bit confusing on the 1176 emulations. Does it really take so long to reach 0db of compression?

what we hear on these video demos do no justice to how good slate's virtual gear sound, VTM still my favorite can wait to test these,
I am so happy I gotbthe everything bundle my mixes sound even better

awesome piece of gear :)
song?
love it!
anybody who the artist of the first song is. great pipes
Are worth it though. love your products
Could someone explain to me why longer attack and release times are "faster"?
Hi! Remember on the FET compressors, higher values are fast and low values are slow!
I see. So it's an inverse proportion (i.e. as one increases the parameter to 7.00 (in this case) one inversely decreases the time)?
Look at it like a speed control rather than a time control.
take care you are thinking of signing the digital slater, their support is not good, I signed for a year and is giving out expired, I contacted the support but they do not respond
any indication to when the airs get released?

abit high pricing for slate digital customers who already own lots of your products. thought their would be a really good introductory offer

Bravo!!!
With another plugin compressor that has serial multi compressor option really brings out the circuit...
very very good
Fastest release? Do you mean slowest?
I thought 7.00 was slower than 1.00
+Aaron Christopher on the classic FET Compressors, they attack and release are reversed, so 7 is the fastest! :)
