The Meat Puppets are in my bag
"Head Over Heels" from Cocteau Twins is one of my top 20 favorite albums, all genres. Shocked and excited it was chosen by Meat Puppets.
One of the best live bands ever, I'm not a big fan of all their music but I'm an AZ native and they are one of the many reasons I am proud of where I'm from. Amazing, talented and entertaining! These old dudes SHRED!!!
I always felt like they get overlooked because of some of their wackier stuff, but they've written some downright beautiful songs over the years. Curt is underrated as a guitarist.
I love, *love,* LOVE the Puppets and seeing (/hearing) their choices was really fun. Ravi Shankar! I'm down with it.
Kurt likes the Bee Gees? I would never have guessed. I love the Bee Gees and the Meat Puppets even more.
Curt is awesome.
I got my first Boredoms record back in the early '90s when then played a gig in a small (now long-defunct) independent record store in Frederick, Maryland of all places.
i really love this because the meat puppets have no idea how to publicity
@John M Elmo ain't talkin either...you know, that publicity thing
LMFAOOOO LITERALLY
“I like this album cuz the cover looks like poo😂” 😭😭😭😭😭 i fuckin love curt SO much
auuuuuughhhhh. love that Cocteau Twins song so much.
After a meat puppets concert, a young fan commented to one of the Kirkwood Bros. “It’s cool you guys are playing a Nirvana cover”. LOL
hahaha that is kinda ignorant really , i feel conected to meat puppet music around my early 20 and i knew this band because of nirvana and melvins but i think people not matters the age need to know about the things they said before said it haha
There is the same story about David Bowe and a fan. (I mean The man who sold the word).
I love Boredoms Vision Creation Newsun
Hell yes!!!
Jerry Reed - Amos Moses is one of my favorite songs.
Wow, this is awesome. Good to see the albums that influence these masterminds!
I'm surprised that Captain Beefheart "Trout Mask Replica" didn't come up in their repertoire of influential music. That was an eclectic, trail blazing album. Some say Captain Beefheart flies on gargoyle wings.
Glad one them picked up that particular Cocteau twins album, it's just so good.
Ha, as I clicked on this video and waited for it to load I had the music of "Backwater" in my head and then it started playing ! Thats Awesome ;)
Wow this is damn near 10 years years old by one day. Happy New Years y'all!
They've become synonymous with Nirvana since the Unplugged concert
Some Great picks, no wonder I've dug these guys since high school late 80s
How come all the CDs are still in the security cases? Were you afraid the Meat Puppets were going to shoplift?
I know this is 9 years later. But that’s how Amoeba packages their CD’s.
They are in cases because they haven't purchased them yet.
Cool to see these guys open for STP back in 94’.
fuck it, good music is good music.
Didn't turn out well. STP big heroin users
are there any recordings of this show?
Too high to die is a sick record
Love live at the witch trials. They had Ligeti from 2001 soundtrack playing before theMP came on stage at lounge axe in Chicago on that snowy night.
3:244- Gyorgy Ligeti wrote some eerie, scary and hauntingly beautiful modern classical music that sounds kinda like 'Orchestral Dark - Ambient', if you can dig the analogy.
I fucking love Live at the witch trials, great record
recently got in to the fall and I heard this one first. A band truly like no other.
Puppets are in my top Ten Fave Bands.....
cool that curt like the fall
I love the meat puppets
Circle is a finnish band!
Ted Marcus, drummer from 2006-2009 i believe....cool choices
Loved his drumming with the guys, from all the yt vids i have seen
their just so friendly and nice sounding they sound so approachable I love it its so different than the most modern rapper musicians of today.
Lets not be retards here!!
Zero band interaction vibe but just listen to their unique take on popular music
If you want to relax just watch this one or Stephen Morris & Gillian Gilbert video. So nice!
Jerry Reed, hell yeah!!
Nilsson could do three octaves? Awesome. Any other singers that do three octaves, that's worth checking out? Tim Taylor of Brainiac could do it. Ween seems to be able to.
Mike Patton
Kate Bush, Capt Beefheart
Chris Cornell had 4 octaves
Jeff Buckley?
Tim Buckley?
All good singers mentioned here, am I allowed to suggest myself having a 4 octave range? HAH! Ok but really Freddie Mercury, Ann Wilson, Johnny Gnecco from Ours (and solo work) would be others. I'd definitely have went towards Patton, Buckley(s), and Cornell first tho.
Mirage is one of the best records ever and it's made by the MEAT PUPPETS.
I like choosing records because their cover
Saying ,” thanks for sharing your bags” to three grown men could have gone terribly wrong. They were mature about it.
No US music from 2nd Kirkwood brother, all UK + Boredoms
They share stuff all readers know and heard of
The Boredoms forever!!!!!
McCartney II!! People that think Paul’s kinda square should give that one a spin. Really diverse.
i love this channel.
"This bag has a hole in it!"- The meat puppets
Fuckin legends
Well Chris seems like the coolest....
Wow. These dudes are legit.
I gotta check out McCartney 2!!
They are amazin!
It’s funny, I went record shopping today for Meat Puppets albums. Sadly, I didn’t find any
I have that exact copy of that Ravi Shakar album
You can't have unless you bought it from him
started with the holy modal rounders... these guys are cool as fuck
hahahaha i like the cover... looks like poo//// greatest line ever in all of whats in my bag holy shit
You can’t go wrong with Shankar .
They seem like neat guys.
Curt is awesome
He thinks so too
Good taste
good stuff, not surprising though
sweet
Kirkwood brothers are the hippest
He looks like a relative of Peter Steele of Type Negative
Cris looks so much like Glenn Hughes.
Man these guys seemed super cool. Gonna have to check out the meat puppets… only know them cause of Nirvana . I’m sure I’m gonna catch flak for that
i found them bc of nirvana, and it took some time but they are my favorite band now. I am currently obsessed with their first 3 albums
hesitation blues - holy modal rounders is a good song
what to do yeah i really dont know what to do
VISION
CREATION
NEWSUN!!
Boredoms, saw them open for Nirvana in Canada
The Circle is one of the greatest band in the universe!
I couldn't find their songs on yt, do you know where can I find their songs ?:>
The spice melange
i rlly got a kick out of this
A lot of obscure stuff here
ravi shankar apparently died 4 days ago :(
Mikael Bajen Fuck him!
RAVI SHANKAR
One of very few, two or three Whats in my bag episodes I managed to like. Hurrah for the Meat Puppets.
Just the fact that it was free of soul artists best known to white people, Led Zeppelin and David Bowie makes this a rewarding episode.
There are many, many episodes where the guests talk about African, Middle Eastern, Asian, Caribbean, and South American music (to name a few) made by people who aren’t white. Also, nobody thinks Led Zeppelin and David Bowie were soul artists.
@@philmole1209 Good God. I listed those two as separate from soul.
And I wasn't caring about those exotic 'other' cultures either, that too comes under the category of stuff pushed by white people.
i think most of their cover art looks like its done by the same person... anyone know who that is? i'm assuming it is one of them...
+farnum moony Curt Kirkwood does most if not all of their covers.
1 cover is by Curt's daughter
Way ahead of who?
Didnt know kevin spacey played in a band
Boredoms
If it weren't for Kurt I probably wouldn't have known Curt and the boys. So, thank you, Kurt.
it's pronounced ruvi shunkur, as in bunker
Come in, fucking Jason $chwartzman- what's in my bag??? Hahaha
Wow, I can honestly say I won't be buying any of that music. Oh well, on to the next episode (fingers crossed).
Bill is a mainstream moron.
It's funny how they're weird
faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal!!!
Always find it odd when a musician doesn't have much of a music collection. Curt bought a couple cds bc he liked the covers-1 bc it looks like poo.?
it looks like curt listened to alot of pop so hes probably fine with some radio station playing
The Pupsters.
“It looks like poo”
NO NO NO NO TEMPORARY SECRETARY NO NO NO NONO!!!
TEMPORARY
Paul McCartney = William Shepard Shears.
All these bands purchase stuff no one's ever heard of. EVER. That's cool, but I think it's really just an effort to shore up "alternative credibility ".
Not true, I love the Cocteau Twins.
There is some good stuff in there
+Paul Metzger none of those groups are obscure at all
I also love the Boredoms
+Paul Metzger None of these bands are obscure. I work at a record store and people buy this stuff every week...
They seem to love shitty music...Interesting
