I grew up in Montreal in the 50"s ,I remember Rav Hirschprung very well,what wasn't mentioned in this video,his absolutely photographic memory,.Rav Hirschprung literally knew and memorized KOL HATORAH KULAH,he memorized Shas Bavli Yerushalmi Sifrah with all the Rishonim and Achroni,he was literally a walking and breathing encyclopedia,but when talking to him you would never know it,he treated anyone and everyone as a personal friend on the same level ,we lived on the same block on Querpes st.i must have been around 10-11,whenever we ran into each other and it was quiet often,he would always stop and ask me Chaim'l VOS HOSTU GELERENT HAINT,(what did you learn today) and would for a minute or two discuss that subject with me. Thanks a million for sharing with us this beautiful video,watched it with tears in my eyes it brought back so many beautiful memories. what an amazing couple.... he was truly a great person who always had time for everyone. I always will miss visiting him late nights at 230 Querbes!!!!!!!!!!! The great Rosh Yeshiva Hagaon Harav Nachum Eliezer Rabinovitch , author of Yad Peshuta on the Rambam, was his talmid and received the first semicha he gave in 1956.
I remember when the great Samar Rebbe R' Yoil Teitelbaub ZZ"L came to Montreal several times, on his way in and from where he stayed, did Rabbi Hishprung ZZ"L accompanied him and m'falpeld in Torah,
As a Talmid of Rabbi Hirshprung, I am shocked that you have NO MENTION of The Ravs very close relationship with the Lubavitcher Rebbe and served as one of the Rosh Yeshivas at Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim LUBAVITCH of Montreal.
I too was a talmid in the Lubavitch Yeshivah in Montreal and Rav Hirshprung would come 3 times a week and give a shiur once a week. He would go round the tables and sit with the chavrusois and talk in learning. I would frequently you and catch him out with his bekius in shes but never managed. He had the greatest respect for the Lubavitcher Rebbe and said he was a Goan Olam. I asked him he must have seen qhite a few gaonim in his youth. He said even compared to those that he saw there was no one like the Rebbe. He would visit the Rebbe often and he can be seen sitting behind the Rebbe in many pictures of farbrengens. It is a shame that none of this is mentioned in this very touching video and a symptom of the lack of respect for the Rebbe that some people cannot bring themselves to express even it means rewriting history.
