I weighed 183.8 , 5’1” on July 17, 2023. I said enough is enough. It is now May 13 and I weigh 125.6 I walk 4 miles a day with my dog. I do upper body weights and I use my fitness pal and changed the way I eat , no crash diet. Lots of water. my goal is 118. I am 73. It is a lifestyle change. It is not a diet. My weight started creeping up when I hit pre menopause at 47, then I started gaining when my husband got sick and eventually passed away in 2014 hysterectomy in 2022.

You are SO right when it comes to cheat meals or drinking. “I’ll start my diet on Monday.” - To diet just enough for vacation and then health doesn’t matter anymore. It’s such a toxic mindset.

Amy you handled the questions perfectly. I am a mother of three and a long time professional trainer and fitness instructor. A lot of people tell me I am “lucky” to not have a weight problem and I respond that I try to be very conscious of my food and activities. There is no magic but a change in lifestyle that produces results, as you know😉. I am glad you are using this platform to help others. You should be proud of yourself!

One pro for intermittent fasting is that like if you are pre diabetic (like I was), it “spends” the “built up sugars” in your liver basically. In three months, my A1C dropped from 5.8 to 5.3. So that’s a consideration for some. Not everyone. Folks with certain (not all) Pre diabetes risk factors really kinda need that break from food to let their bodies “catch up”. UNLESS your diet is like perfectly balanced. Like you said. Calories need tracked. Just frees us up some brain space soo we’re not obsessing

    I was 169 lbs.
    i am now 145 lbs.
my weight fluctuates a few pounds.
    From 145 it was 150 last night 😂 🤷‍♀️
Thats ok this morning it went down to 147.
    I weigh myself daily.
It helps me stay on track.
It does not control me or upset me.
I have to watch this video again so everything stays in my brain. 😂

I can’t tell you how much this video has helped me! I started a weight loss journey about three weeks ago and haven’t seen much of a change and was starting to get a little discouraged. I know it takes time, but I’m a type of girl that wants to see results yesterday! This video brought me back down to reality. Thank you so much.

Amy, Thank you. This was so inspiring to me. I am at the unhealthiest stage of my life. I have been feeling that overwhelming sense of getting to where I want to be. Your mentality of focusing on one pound at a time has freed my brain from that. I cannot thank you enough for that gift. I will be implementing some of your tips and watching your food videos! Thank you for reaching me today. I really needed it.

One of the things that hit home with me in this video was the question about what was key in the beginning of your journey that allowed or motivated you to keep going. I was diagnosed with stage 4 non-Hodgkins Lymphoma back in November 2018 and had to undergo six rounds of chemotherapy. During that process I went from about 212 pounds down to about 175 pounds (for reference, I am 5' 1" tall and I turned 59 in mid-January). After finishing chemo and through the course of time, at my last follow-up cancer appointment in March 2023, I was back up to the 212 pounds (i.e., back where I was before chemo). At that appointment I told the nurse practitioner that when I came back for my next appointment I was going to be different and he wanted to know what I meant by "different" and how I was going to achieve that goal. At the time I really didn't know the exact journey that I would take, but I had put it out there to him and I was absolutely determined to not fail. I officially began my health journey at the beginning of June 2023 at 211.9 pounds and by the middle of September (at that follow-up appointment) I was down to 163 pounds. I achieved that weight loss goal by walking every single day on the treadmill that is in the exercise room in our apartment community and by following the 16:8 version of intermittent fasting. Since that last appointment in September, as of this morning (May 10, 2024) I weighed 149.4 pounds. I no longer walk every single day, but I do try and walk at least 5 times per week for at least a minimum of 30 minutes each time. This was challenging after I broke the big toe on my left foot and wasn't really able to walk. But I am back to it now after about a 3 month hiatus. And I no longer adhere to the strict 16:8 version of intermittent fasting.
For me, what kept me motivated was seeing my progress, making the statement about being "different" at my March 2023 appointment (I had to put my money where my mouth was), and having my older sister as my cheerleader truly was a game changer. Her words of encouragement and support was HUGE for me! I would say that I tend to fluctuate between the 149 to 152 pound weight range, and I have learned to be okay with that. Considering where I began my journey in June 2023 ~~ less than one year later I am down about 60 pounds and I consider that a victory and I am beyond happy and proud of my accomplishment!!

You truly are an inspiration. I had actually never tied weight gain to death. I was very small and active when I was young.
    When I married at age 18 I was 100# now 40 years later I’m at 273#.
I’ve had lots of loss (Father, Brother and Mother) I’ve also had brain surgery 1 year after marriage and experienced breast cancer, double mastectomy and 2sets off implants.
I’m a survivor and for that I’m grateful.
I truly do want to lose weight and I need to figure out what the best route is.
I take high powered medicine for seizures that I’ve fought ever since I turned 19 years old.
I keep watching you and praying I can get back in a routine. You are my inspiration! Thank you ❤

Also, I appreciate that you didn’t shame those of us who are on medication. I had 10 kids and managed to get to pregnancy weight for all but the last few. Then it was just like a run away train and I gained a bunch of weight. Documenting my journey to help keep me accountable, which is helping a ton! Amy, with all the talk of what to do and not to do about weight loss,it’s no wonder why so many people get discouraged. Bottom line these fitness celebrity types, do it all for the profits, whether it works or not. But, you are a beacon have light, bringing it back to the basics “inputs and outputs. Still enjoying good healthy foods (and sometimes treats) in moderation. It’s sustainable and smart..
I’ve lost 41lbs since January watching what I consume and the portions. Yes I track my calories and it does make it easier for me. I recently joined the YMCA and have Incorporated strength training. I can’t begin to tell you how great I feel inside and out. I’m in my 50’s and I still have aches and pains, but not having to carry that extra weight around is life changing. The hardest part is starting with day one and being consistent. I still have my youngest at home and I’m a busy mom,but I’ve realized the importance it is to put myself #1, before everything else. I need to be strong for myself and my family. I finally Love myself and I look forward to a healthy future. Thank you for the inspiration Amy!!

I love watching your videos about weight loss but can you please do a video about your skin and how glowing it is? Are you naturally tan or do you do something to get that? Also even the whites of your eyes just look brighter. Have talked about other benefits you have seen since eating better and exercising?

Hi Amy. Thank you for being so candid and sharing your advice on this difficult subject. I find that intermittent fasting has really helped me lose weight and feel healthier. I would also add that if you are exercising then consider the extra weight of any muscle mass you are developing. Trying on clothes for me has been a better indicator as you lose the inches and people notice that. Good luck with your marathon training! Soon be Wimbledon and I can’t wait! Will be having the strawberries without the cream on the day or maybe I’ll treat myself if it’s been a while 🎾🍓

I love when you do these videos I love all of the what you eat in a day and when you share your recipes with us, I’ve been on a weight loss journey since last July and I am older than you are I’m 60 but I’ve been through ovarian cancer and have had several surgeries and I take hormone blockers which really made it tough for me to lose weight, but I am down 51 pounds Since last July and I’m very happy about it!! I really do want to lose 20 or 25 more pounds and I’ve been at a standstill for a while so after listening to you today, I am thinking I need to check out or exercise and reevaluate !! my question to you is do you think that sometimes we aren’t losing due to not eating enough food and how do you know when that happens because sometimes I feel like I may not be eating enough and my body is hanging onto what’s there ???
You have helped me with your encouragement your recipes and your Q&A videos🌸. You look so amazing and you deserve it because you worked hard for it and I’m so glad you are sharing it with all of us.🤗💐
