The conversation around Russell as a person is a perfect example of how narrative trumps first hand accounts these days. Brandon described Russ being a family man, focused on his business and football. Brandon named the teammates who love Russ. Brandon is Russell's friend and he would know of all people what type of guy he is. Yet, people insist on repeating negative things heard through the rumor mill and stupid memes. This narrative that all his teammates dislike him has always been BS. There are far more teammates that have spoken out about his leadership and good character than the 2 or 3 from Seattle that speak bitterly. It's just that those negative comments make headlines and all the positive ones do not. Funny enough, some guys in that Seattle defense hated each other. There were real beefs on that team and Russ was definitely not in the center of any of them. His Denver teammates also loved him and spoke highly of him. There's no reason to believe he will not be able to lead as the Steelers QB.

And to add to your comments, I’ve lived in Seattle for a lot of years. I was here before Pete Carroll and the legion of boom. And the Seahawks were no where near the playoffs, let alone a Super Bowl. However, after Russell joined the team- we went to the playoffs and eventually a Super Bowl. (Twice) Nevertheless, some people on the team felt that Russell’s contribution was not so great. Are you kidding me? It was a great!. I guess some people have forgotten what the Seattle Seahawks were like before Russell. I haven’t. Let me remind everyone, every Sunday, we would lose. Every Sunday. Then Pete Carroll and the defense did start to win some games (7 and 9 twice) Those numbers do not get a team to the playoffs. So all you people who thinks that Russell was arrogant and too high on a horse. I say to you. He has a lot to be arrogant about. Also, some of those guys in those locker rooms could also be jealous.

Russ is not affected by other's behavior. He keeps on by his own standards. Sean Payton is emotionally unstable. Even that doesn't affect Russ. For Russ its about legacy not the money. You can always count on Russ to be Top Shelf no matter what. Russ is a true Gentleman & a Class Act. Russ is solid as a rock. Reliable Russ.

Sean Payton doesn’t know what he’s doing. It’s clear he didn’t like Russ, however Russ was there before he got there. So I wonder why did he take the job? It certainly wasn’t about winning a championship. I’m not an NFL coach, but I know as a head coach your job is to win. From what I’ve seen thus far, Sean Payton doesn’t know how to select players (offensive line), choose a defensive coach to put together a defensive line. And to top it all off, Mr. Sean Payton decides to bench his starting quarterback during a run to the playoffs. That’s was a bad move. Because Denver could have made the playoffs. But no, Mr. Payton decides, the hell with making it to the playoffs, he’ll put in a backup quarterback for the last two games of the season. Yet, it’s some people blames Russell Wilson for Denver not making a playoff run. That’s complete nonsense…Now, Mr Payton who will you blame the next season? Hopefully, all the world will see you yell and scream at another player and shake their heads at your behavior. Mr Sean Payton, you are no leader.

Other than Brandon Marshall, these guys are clowns! They can’t think for themselves, and you could see the resistance because they already had these false narratives ingrained in their heads.

    • @DeCurtaRican
      @DeCurtaRican 2 месяца назад

Brandon had to spoon-feed these dudes with facts and logic! They aren’t objective and they came with the same tropes and false narratives Russ’s haters have spewed.
Furthermore, the guy who claimed Rodgers was an MVP-level QB at 35 was wrong! The Packers were about to draft Jordan Love at that time. Rodgers didn’t win his MVPs until age 37 and 38 (2020 and 2021), but you can see these guys reaching for anything that allows them to maintain their deep-seated narratives.
Derek Carr had an office. Other QBs have gotten perks. Russ’s was carrying the Seahawks. That’s what people don’t seem to accept. They want to run with the false narrative that the LoB was carrying the team, and they weren’t!
If they are going to say that, they might as well say Tyreek Hill, Mecole Hardman, Travis Kelce, and the Chiefs’ O-Line carried Mahomes to his two SB appearances and a win. Those types of players have a much bigger and more direct impact on a QB’s performance than defenders do.
Furthermore, Russ bailed out the LoB more times than I can count.
Brandon’s argument about QBs being different is on point. They are different and are treated differently. This goes back to the jealousy argument.
Richard Sherman, Percy Harvin, and Kam Chancellor wondered why they weren’t having brunch on Paul Allen’s Yacht like Russ. They weren’t as important to the team!
Paul Allen left instructions to keep Russ on that roster until his retirement if possible, and Jody Allen violated that by agreeing to trade Russ instead of firing Pete years after he had already deserved to be fired!
But the players? That was jealousy, and plenty of Russ’s teammates liked him!

That’s the truth. I think he would have preferred other spots. And the Bears sent him there because the last thing they need is for Fields to have immediate success and Caleb Williams to struggle. So, they did this on purpose. They didn’t want Fields to land in a spot where he had a legit chance to start right away and do well. They wanted him to be in a tough situation.

My take is that the Steelers give Russell a 2 year extension, because that's how they normally do business, and try to get Fields on a 3 year back-up deal, sit behind Russ for 2 seasons and that 3rd Russel season he'll either retire or move on and Justin take over in that 3rd year. Yes, he may be starting alter, but like Brandon said, ARod didn't start until he was 27.

If you’re pointing to Rodgers, remind yourself that Rodgers is still a marquee QB at age 40 and Russ takes better care of himself than any QB on the league.
He’s also a better athlete than Rodgers and has been more durable despite taking more hits. That could catch up to Russ but I doubt it. Like I said, he takes excellent care of his body. He spends $1M per year on his body, as does Ciara.

    • @DeCurtaRican
      @DeCurtaRican 7 месяцев назад

Brandon believes Dields will face to go elsewhere to be the frabchise QB, and I honestly think that’s the plan. The Steelers will strategically showcase him this year (situationally) just to whet the appetites of other teams, and flip Fields for a #1. The first time a team’s starter goes down, Pitts is going to receive calls.
      Atlanta
      Arizona
      Jax
      Las Vegas
      LAR
      NYG
      Carolina
Chicago!!! (Caleb could be a bust!)
Odds are that Fields goes elsewhere and Russ stays. But the Steelers will get 1-2 #1 policies for him so they can draft Russ’s replacement.
      Fields is getting flipped.

But Denver duped Russ into agreeing to go there. They’re liars! The roster was busted, and Hackett was a sh!tty coach! That’s why they paid Russ immediately. Besides the fact that he could’ve commanded 5 years, $320M if he had played his tail off in 2022, the Broncos were desperate because they hired Hackett believing Rodgers would follow.
They gassed up the Broncos fan base to believe that they were getting Rodgers by hiring Hackett, and when Rodgers didn’t follow, they needed to deliver someone.
They couldn’t fire Hackett right after hiring him, so they lied to Russ and told him Hackett would coach to his skill set, which he ultimately did not do!

Can you afford to leave Fields on the bench for a second year? Would all parties be open to doing this again? A great problem to have, but still...

That scenario is exactly why the media is so desperate for Russ to not even get the job in first place. Their worse nightmare if for Russ to lead Steelers on deep playoff run and solidifying starting job for years to come along with cementing his HOF legacy. Lots of ppl who hate Russell Wilson for reasons that have nothing to do with football

Mike Tomlin said exactly what I thought he'd say. Russ has earned the right to go in as the starter with no guarantees he'll come out that way. Pretty simple folks, Steelers hold all the leverage. It's a one-year tryout for both players. Russ has zero financial protection so he's gonna have to come out and perform at a high level or else! He does that it not only benefits the team, it benefits Fields as well! Ask Steve Young if playing behind Montana benefitted his career lol!

I guarantee you he was guaranteed the starting role. This was I believe the first FA role and there were many different options available for Wilson Vegas, Patriots, Vikings, Titans, Commanders, Panthers and even Seattle that were all interested in him. So in order for the Steelers to close the deal I'm positive they guaranteed him starting role right off the bat and when Picket was told that was the case he said that was unacceptable to him. So he thew history fit and was traded right away. That's how it all went down. Wilson had way too many options on the table at the time for it to go down as you will compete for the starting job... No one in his shoes would have signed them at that time without exploring many opportunities in front of him. I agree with the rest. H cn easily be the man again!!!! Field didnt have as many options as Wilson did.

Russ doesn’t even need to be a superstar to keep the job with this offense he just needs to bring his leadership, creativity, and accuracy to the Justin Fields vein he probably could beat out Russel Wilson but it would be better for himself to sit and learn from Russel for a while and then be miles ahead of the next best option when the next season comes around you have to keep a future quarterback 1 on the roster with Russel no matter how long we think he could play

My Steelers essentially recreated the 2022 situation.
    Russell Wilson = Mitch Trubisky
    Kenny Pickett = Justin Fields
The biggest difference is BOTH Russell & Justin are WAAAY better than Mitch & Kenny.
However, the same situation looms with the uncertainty of who deserves to be number one. Statistically (2023 season), Russell gets the nod. Justin was growing every season. As a fan, I am concerned because we’ve screwed up decisions regarding the quarterback position for the past 5-years.

Just try to get your heads wrapped around this. What if we get the best Russ, and the best Justin, across the duration of a very long and brutal season. How many QB's get thru it all intact, much less playing their best every week. And who or what other team has TWO top flight QB's to start their year, much less one? Imagine a world where these guys just wanna win, and they step up as the other gets beat up and fills the others shoes, and back again! Just maybe they're both realistic and amped enough to recognize that going deep into the playoffs will pay both of them well if they go that way. These guys could end up being the scariest great platooning tandem the game has ever seen. 😊
What they won't be is a scared and hurt Kenny being backed up by a useless Mitch til it's too late to care.

  • @DeCurtaRican

Russ had guys down at his home in San Diego right after the trade, well before he even started his first season in Denver. He just did the same thing in Pittsburgh.
His teammates are allowed to use his office, which no one discusses.
And Melvin Gordon liked Russ. He would’ve been the LAST guy to criticize Russ either way all of Melvin Gordon’s fumbles. He was concerned FOR Russ, not mad at him or giving him side-eye!
These dudes have bought into the bullsh!t and it’s good that Russ has advocates out there to set people straight and bring them back down.
It became open season on Russ two years ago, and people needed someone to hate. They really turned into bullies because Russ couldn’t fight back. Bekuecevthis akso affected his play, although no one would ever want to admit it.
The media wants to promote the narrative that he’s washed, and Russ wants to promote the narrative that he can Zen his way through any mental or emotional challenges. So no one is going to admit that the bullying impacted Russ, but if we are honest, we know it did.
The media and fans need someone to hate on. Now it’s on to Dak Prescott and LeBron James, and if Rodgers doesn’t play well this year, he can expect some punishment to come his way too.

Wishful thinking on your part man. Pittsburgh is in win-now mode. The right QB is the experienced one, not the guy with the potential.
Riss is going to lead the Steelers on a deep playoff run. Fields is not getting the keys to the Steelers until he demonstrates that he can pass consistently. Not only can Russ still spin it; he is still one hellafied athlete.
People want to see Fields because they think he’s another Deshaun Watson or Lamar Jackson. As a runner, he absolutely is. As a passer, those guys are/were years ahead of Fields, and Russ is way ahead too.
Fields has absolutely no shot at beating out Russ in camp, and that will be his best opportunity. So he’s definitely a backup for this year, and I believe a Russ will be an MVP candidate this year.

    • @DeCurtaRican
      @DeCurtaRican 7 месяцев назад

@@ericsinclair1826: No, you’re just fiat-out wrong. Tomlin has been in love with Russ for years, just like Belichick and Andy Reid have been.
That’s why none of them could beat him, or maybe they are so enamored with him BECAUSE they couldn’t beat him.
Before you raise that SB, remember that Pete Carroll and Daryl Bevell cooked up that flatfoot play and Ricardo Lockette blew it, not Russ.
And this past season’s Broncos-Patriots game was THROWN by Payton. Russ had the team in position to win it. Payton threw that game.
If Belichick had gotten the Falcons Job, he would have fought Tomlin and the Steelers for Russ. Then you would’ve had a bidding war centering on an extension.

And sometimes it's Ochim's Razer; Fields has already been thru the gauntlet & trial by fire with a team that tried building backwards, and here's a shot w/ a legendary franchise to play w/ or behind his own self-admitted model. What if, Justin just genuinely wants a chance to learn how to succeed in this new NFL business, AND live through it so he doesn't spend his golden years and gold after football all crippled and brain damaged. Justin has spent the first 90% of his NFL experience just running for his life, so what's not to like about getting paid to learn and actually have a chance to absorb the job at a slower pace. It's the closest thing you're gonna see these days to QB development. Thanks BM, we get it. 😊

Russ isn’t the first guy to be different, and he’s not the first QB to receive special privileges like an office and extra parking slots.
Pete Carroll should’ve been fired back in 2015, right after SB49, and Russ would’ve been wise not to sign that first extension with the Seahawks!
He should’ve left first chance he got. He wouldn’t be going through this.
