I'm thrilled that you got a deal on this camera, it indeed found the right home, it's obvious you are over the moon with your purchase! Good luck to you and I hope you get some great footage.
I own and primarily use one of these suckers, and I absolutely love it. But I genuinely feel like calling it a cinema camera is a bit of a stretch, and even was back when it came out. I think it stands on it's own as a really great camcorder. Having shot a feature on the thing a few years back, I can pretty confidently say that it was not up to the task. (Of course, I also wasn't up to the task at the time.) You can absolutely get cinematic images out of the old girl with the right lighting and composition, but that's true of any camera these days. That said, I still love the camera a lot, and I have no intentions to purchase a replacement in the near future. Side note: If you haven't, go ahead and dial in the G-log settings on this thing, and then give yourself a little bit more bias towards the highlights, and you will have a very workable and professional looking image.
u still have one, and love it One question: Which is the flattest picture profile you can make in order to get the best Da Vinci Resolve color post production result? Thanks
It is a cinema camera and there's plenty of features made with it. Just because you couldn't complete your feature don't blame it on the camera! Its a cinema camera.
So, first thing: We did finish that terrible movie back in the day. That doesn't mean we had a tool designed for the job. The FS100 is a great camera with lots of fantastic tools built-in, but it is an interchangeable lens camcorder with a somewhat weak video codec. I still use mine every day for streaming/video calls! We also shoot a lot of pre-viz and low-budget projects with it. That said, you wouldn't call the Canon XL-2 a cinema camera, and it shot a fair few features as well. To boil it down to a bumper sticker: "Not a cinema camera" =/= "Bad camera" Now, get off the computer and go have fun making something with whatever you have!
@@TheCuteMinna I found it in ebay... I was looking several weeks until I saw a good deal. So check Ebay everyday and eventually someone will sell one a good price.
Not to here to knock on you or anyone, but I think that this camera was only cheaper than the original price, because of the damages, and missing parts, not because it's just cheap. Still a good video though, I can see that you're happy with it.
I saw this video link posted at the facebook fs100 users group, got mine on 2015 and still using it. An ND filter will be helpful, I fitted mine with a vizelex nd throttle, control your exposure without loosing the shallow DOF. Congrats and hope you enjoy your camera. Cheers!
I bought my fs100 in 2012 and it's still going strong. If you don't need 10-bit 4k recording it is literally the best 8-bit HD cinema camera around because of the native 2 megapixel sensor.
Yeah soon as someone mentions it on RUclips prices go up like 25 to $100. If not more especially when it comes to Electronics in Tech. Best thing to do go to the blogs that compare similar cameras or cameras that have that in their lineup usually going to the third page of Google search get you past a lot of the companies and everything that paid to be on the first few pages. And then I make a spreadsheet compare the specs go on eBay compare the different prices and watch the ones that go up for bids. I usually have 7 to 13 things that I'm keeping an eye out for on eBay.
pap tom. Tom's hardware often has blog about certain computer tech and line ups but it depends really. I usually Little Jess Google any list that has Whatever item I'm looking for and then look at the other nine items on that list if it's say a top 10 which is the most common. You can also just Google something like motherboards under $50 as an example. But using the price range that that product should have been. You can also find items that are maybe 50 to $100 more buying them brand new especially when it comes to computer parts but then watch for those parts on eBay and actually get a better product for a cheaper price. Example being my graphics card on my computer. My graphics card is a $400 graphics card. I had a budget of $250. The best graphics card for 250 and anyone that had been reviewed or anything had gone up to about 3:50 if not 400 when I was looking for prices. Very few were 300 but those were usually promotions or deals and you had to give a lot more information and had to do a rebate. So instead I looked up gpus under 250 and look for any blog post that were in the last few months. I did look at a few blog posts that were two years old as well. Then I also expanded up to $300 and then into the $400 range just to look at things. I got my list up and I started searching around I found quite a few of some of the $400 gpus that were better than the one that was originally 250 of course but they were being sold slightly used fur around 250 maybe 280. And I got it.
This camera is not designed to be handheld and never came with a top handle. It is primarily a tripod camera of which it is an amazing piece of equipment. I bought mine second hand in 2014 and it's still going strong. Try to pick up a Sony EA 50 to pair it with, that one is a shoulder mount and the footage matches perfectly.
@@bobandren To be honest, these are not our go-to cameras anymore. We have moved to the Sony A7iii and the EA50 will sometimes get bought along for the ride as a back up. I only use the FS100 for personal use now, simply because it really does only belong on a tripod IMO and the smaller mirrorless cameras coupled with go pros and song pxw are far easier to transport and lug about. The EA-50 is more user friendly as a run and gun due to the zoom rockers. I imagine shooting on the FS100 from a handle while operating the zoom would be cumbersome. In saying that, the image is still superb shooting as flat as possible and then applying a LUT - which I noticed stopped working in Premier Pro a few months back, but I will try to find an old link for you of a guy who shot on the FS100 and applied the same LUT.
Cool man, I'm working up to the c300 or the c500. I don't know which one I want yet. Probably go with the cheaper one then upgrade later. Great footage by the way! My first camera back in the day was the Sony Z1U. When it first came out I paid like 5k for that thing. But sold it a long time ago.
This is the first time a shallow depth of field is giving me a reason to complain; the way you blocked the shot was triggering the autofocus consistently and it was too distracting. Maybe a lower aperture was a better way to go in this case.
All you bitching that it's cheap "only" because it's damaged. Who cares. Find a deal that's right for you and go for it. Nothing wrong with buying damaged gear at a good deal if you're fine with the "problems". Excellent video man
Did I miss this in the video? Are you using an EF lens in your test footage? Don't you need an E-Mount to EF adapter of some kind (like the Metabones)? Or are you using an E-mount lens? I don't see either in your equipment list.

At 00:3:40 thats the film plane indicator. it's an indicator of where the sensor is and that is helpful for things like measuring focus distances.
