*Correction:* In my commentary, I mention that Ryan Smith was a former employee of Red Storm Entertainment. Rather, he was a former employee at Massive Entertainment. My apologies for the incorrect reporting.
I think that is what hurts the most: all of those resources pulled away from Div 2 for Heartland, for years, and to flush it all down the drain.
They need more money for assassin's creed 28 lol
Assassin’s Greed 28
The reality is that a game like Assassin's Creed Origins, a single player game released 7 years ago, has more players in-game right now on steam than The Division 2. If The Division is to continue as a franchise, you better pray that new assassin's creed games will make lots of money for ubisoft, because The Division clearly doesn't
*WE NEED BLK SAMURAI* 😂
Rip heartland 😭😭😭
Hey, don't go jinxing Shadows. That trailer was 🔥 and I want that game to be good.
@@ferrenberg because they fundamentally haven't change the game outside of gear sets and weapon perks for the last 4 years, we are still spamming control points
They need to just release heartland as a dlc within Division 2.
Publishers will never cease to amaze with how knee jerk they are with pushing projects to keep up with the flavor of the times. Initially a spinoff BR, then changed into a stand alone extraction shooter... then completely cancelled out of nowhere... Seems like they never could decide what they wanted it to be.
This just adds salt to the wound. When we were twisting in the breeze with nothing to do in Div2 for years we could have been playing this, instead they tried to chase a fad that never panned out. We get shit on. I love Rogue's videos and I admire his positivity, but I am at an all-time low point with this franchise and really have no faith that Div 3 will be anything other than another Ubi dumpster fire. I'm truly bummed.
Ubisoft is the among the biggest trash of the gaming industry.
I’ve gotten to a point where I don’t believe anything from Ubisoft until I see it.
We’ve been asking for Survival since Div2 came out, it would be so amazing if they at least had it in Div3.
to be fair, no survival will ever have the same feeling as the first game, night time in nyc in heavy snow and trash/abandonded area. division 2 is sunny, hopefully 3 will be similar to the first game, always said this.
Apart from the discussion between PVP not being the majority of the Division's player base, and so on... I'd still don't get why would they cancel a project that, even tho still needed some work, it was probably mostly done?! Its almost 4 years of work from the team... That's just unfair. 😢
First, I want to acknowledge that your channel is an amazing source for The Division franchise news and information. You present a well condensed, highly informative media stream I routinely use as a goto for what’s going on with the community and what “may” be coming down the pipe.
I’m just a player of Division 1 and 2, as well as many other games. I more “seasoned” at 60 years of age now. I have been playing, watching, reading, tracking; the industry for decades, including content creators and “reporters”. I’m not always right, but I’m consistent with my success on calling hits and misses.
The Division Heartland wasn’t what we thought. I have tested it in the earliest stages as well as the latest stages. Simply putting “The Division” in the title doesn’t make it a Division game. If they had just left it as a BR with F2P, it may have made it, and it may even get launched as such under a different title.
Changing the genera title to “Extraction Shooter” was a stretch, or maybe the “Squeeze map” but okay, enjoy the title scrabble; end result; fail. As another aside, past all that info, and the money and the creator, developer, publisher minutia; I’d be willing to admit that the interactions between the people was another hurdle that wasn’t worth the pain. Read into that what you will, but my eyes tell me there were some basic differences in teams and goals/levels of importance.
The game may have been decent, but the destination was foretold a long time ago.
I didn’t care about heartland myself but I didn’t want it to be canceled for others. There’s a game out there for everyone and I’m a gamer and just want all gamers to enjoy there games.
Best comment 🙌
While i think its very unlikely that they'll add any of heartland's mechanics into div2,i hope they will at least add the outfits, faces and haircuts. Some of the apparel customization in heartland looked a lot better than what we got in div2.
Also,i agree with everything you said, especially with your take on the division 2 devs and PVP. Good video
lol you need bright coloured clothing, pink hair and quirky female characters to enjoy the game huh😂
Well shoutout to Ubi for more mismanagement and wasting resources. This isn't unlike Naughtydog wasting all that time bloating a mode that people wanted into something they didn't ask for. Damn shame 😊
I quite liked heartland cuz it was division and extraction shooter, and i love both of those things, nothing we can do unfortunately lets just be happy the division is still a thing
It would be nice if heartland or atleast the story would be adapted into div 2, im sure the programming isn't as simple but they had a fleshed out map, enemies and seemingly story. Would be a great extra area to have
I disagree, the story for The division 2 is only getting more cringey and drawn out and heartlands was the icing on the cake...I've been playing the new manhunt story missions etc. and the writing is just so bad
Imagine if they didn't get greedy and just put all those resources into Division 2 in the first place??? They really do hate their players....
Ubisoft never Ceases to amaze me. They’ve been doing things like this for many many years. That’s why a lot of people left them long time ago.
Great video RG.
Points well made and nicely articulated
Appreciate it 🙏
I was never a big fan of heartland and I barely enjoy pvp in division two but so so unfortunate for people who were looking forward to it. It could definitely be used as dlc for division two or even three. But yeah I werent too bothered but it's really not fair for people were excited for it
just glad I got to play a ton of the beta last summer, it was a great game with a ton of potential. i feel the designers did a great job and i feel bad for all the D1 Survival fans who will never get to try it. they should have released at least an open beta for the masses to try before cancelling.
as far as your take on Survival on D3..., we can only hope but upper management at Ubisoft doesn't seem to be the most competent with decision making. oh, and have fun milking D2 for the next 4-5 years. what a cluster f---.
Maybe the assets or some of the mode concepts can be adapted into TD2. Hell, maybe the location could be DLC3?
This is exactly what I was thinking. If it's using the same engine and the map is done it might be easy to salvage as either a DLC or stand alone area outside of DC, similar to Coney Island or the zoo, etc. Give it a story line like a remote/rural Division training camp suddenly came online, go investigate; or a missing supply Convoy, or a new faction of religious radicals, etc.
@visuyhmgroup Maybe.
Kinda a kick in the balls for all those who we're holding out for division 2. Essentially when there is only 2 weeks left for this season.
Rogue I have got be honest I do believe with all the delays, promises and now the cancellation of Heartland. They will lose players in droves now because they cannot be honest with the most important people- the players..
100% agree with this comment. if they think people will stick around for the 4+ years they will take to finish D3 just because they throw some add-ons to D2 they are nuts. Ubisoft is obviously prioritizing Resurgence over Heartland to fill that gap, which is laughable. Bring on GTA6!!
Makes sense, since Heartland was built on Division 2 files (as noted from looking under the hood of pre-alpha).
Hopfully any new assets can be reused div2.
i just really hope they add some of the content etc that i heard mentioned about heartland i think anyway that you could use knife's axes etc and run and slide more parkour etc into division 3
My heart goes out to the people who invested time and passion into the Heartland product. This cancellation has resulted in a huge waste of time and talent, and I wish there could have been a result to satisfy everyone.
That being said, I want to express my own personal experiences with the heartland alpha/beta:
Guys, it unfortunately wasn’t going to be the next great division experience you were all hoping for.
The map/environment was a BIG, HUUUGE step down in visual intrigue and complexity compared to what we’ve seen before, enemy AI and variety being nonexistent, resource and inventory management coming across as purely an annoyance factor more than anything else (and trust me, I don’t mind degrading materials/equipment in a lot of other games, it was just implemented poorly here) and the combat basically NEVER involved the use of any equipment, as those required batteries… with single uses.
Some of that was salvageable, so I still had SOME hope that that could expand and turn it around, with one major exception.
The gear had no stats. None. There were no “builds” of any sort. Weapon rarity within a class bumped up stats a bit, better rarity means more stats.
There was no incentive to complete certain activities, or pursue goals, or explore.
Nighttime PvP was honestly pretty fun, but it was surrounded by all these systems that either bogged down the experience or felt like they existed to extend (VERY boring) farming time.
I really wanted to enjoy the game (as I LOVE D1 and D2) but the flaws were HUGE and this might end up being a good thing in terms of long term brand health.
I want to be clear that THIS IS JUST MY OPINION, I do not pretend to speak for every beta player, as I also have friends who enjoyed their experience. I hope that those involved find success in their next project, and the next big division game learns from some of the decisions and testing carried out here.
Ubisoft doing shady shit as always.😊
There was just no place for Heartland after thinking about it. Most of the feedback I saw about Heartland was a want for it to lean more into PvE content. The conversation always hovered around the idea of people wanting to play Heartland and not do any PvP, with people countering that by saying that PvP needs to be integral to the experience.
I don't think Division 3 and the current commitment to Division 2 existed when Heartland expanded and was ramping up. If Ubisoft got the impression that most people were interested in PvE from Heartland, then there's not much point in making that game if you have added Division 2 efforts in play and a Division 3 on the horizon. They'd all just cannibalize each other.
So, in a way, the people that pushed for PvE-only stuff in Heartland 'won' and their feedback highlighted the inefficient business strategy of pushing Heartland out when most of its potential playerbase would try to shoehorn that game into something it wasn't meant to be.
I started to come around to the idea of PvEvP stuff, so I'm sad to see this game go. All day, every day in that Discord people just went back and forth on how much PvP should be required to get everything in Heartland with a lot of people saying they wouldn't play the game at all if they had to PvP. Ubisoft saw that and made the choice to just cancel the game if they arem't going to have a market for it.
disagree strongly. ubi probably looked at the pvp numbers and realised people wouldnt leave division 2 who arent into pvp and wouldnt switch (for long at least) from CoDpiece and fortnite. going to one extreme or another was never going to work either. exclusives to pvp well... theres a reason a lot of us dont go in the darkzones, and it isnt just ganking by much more focused pvpers or cheaters, its the fact when you die you lose way more dz xp (and go down levels even) than you earned (outside of clearing landmarks which earn nothing now which is stupid change) along with dz currency that you dont get a lot of to start with. i went in the zone last time, i had 39 dz resources, cleared a landmark then got one shot THROUGH a solid metal generator or something along with another agent; by a rogue who was clearly shooting through cover not moving around it. i lost a level back to 6 and came out with 9 dz resources. if you want more people in dz in div 2 then drop the loss of xp and dz resources for being killed by a cheater or rogue agent.
but the splitting up of the dz in div 2 was stated as being to force pvp since the pvpers in div 1 complained the agents not interested in pvp and just wanted to clear landmarks could avoid the rogues! and so you pvpers are in same position as div 1 pvpers now - the same people in the dz using the same metas and none of it you seem to find satisfying. making heartland a battle royale would count me out from wanting to play boring repetitive pvp and nothing more interesting like a campaign or missions. if it makes pvpers happy good, maybe they could link up div 2 darkzones so that i can go landmark farming again, and not have to worry about being one shot from outside the building through the walls and floor by someone who cant understand the dz wasnt supposed to be pvp only, originally, and pve players were supposed to have an equal right to be there... and the chance to defend their extractions. unfortunately a pve loadout doesnt work against a pvper even if they arent cheating. dunno how to fix that one.
it sounds like to me this is a classic case of upper management, and most likely 3rd party consultants, over analyzing what customers want (with focus groups), constantly making changes after changes after changes, but never making a decision and just releasing the damn game to the marketplace to gauge what the actual customers want. next thing you know the corporate types waste a ton of time and money until it's cancelled. i just hope the executives and consultants responsible for this mess get fired and never touch another video game again. how you can practically finish a game, have years of time and money invested in it, and just cancel it out of the blue is the epitome of incompetence.
@halorin Appreciate the breakdown, compelling thoughts 👍
I would honestly be suprised if they just delete all assets of the game. I dont think they will ever releases the game itself seeing as it is cancelled, but i think they will be reused
This is a bummer. I also wish they would do it as a dlc. The Division games are my favorite games in recent years. Maybe someday we will see Division 3 but I will not hold my breathe.
Heartland, a precursor to The Disappointment 3🤦🏽♂️
its so upsetting, i was looking forward to a standalone, quickly replayable experience that i could get into with friends who arent necessarily into the core division series
So what does this mean for Division Resurgence? We haven't heard word about that game for a while either. I've been pre-download locked in for a year now with no invite and it hasn't b een released yet. Is that gonna be cancelled now?
It's well on the way, they touted it as one of their big FY24 releases in the same earnings report yesterday. Planning on having a video including that tomorrow
@@RogueGold Oh sounds good! You are allowed to use my comment in the video if you like! Enjoy the videos my good sir.
Honestly. As soon as I heard about Div 2 dlc I knew this would get canceled. That’s 3 Div projects lining up to all launch together. People like us will play heartland and the dlc and resurgence but casual players will just play heart land and take away from division 2 regardless of if there different genres it’s still internal competition.
It is sad, but true that software companies typically do a horrible job of evaluating the market until just before release. Having been a software product manager for many years, I can just imagine what happened. About a monthg ago, a mid-to-upper level manager asked the product/program manager for Heartland to evaluate the market and make some predictions on sales. When he/she presented the numbers in a routine status report, the manager and the CFO nearly had a heart attack. The Division franchise has a loyal, but very small player base. That was the end of Heartland. More importantly, all Division games are now most likely going to be re-evalauted for their future financial viability.
I hope they can at least take the cosmetics from Heartlands and give them to us
my biggest hope with all this is that instead of it being attached to div 2 or being stand alone they just add this mode as a side more for div 3 whenever that comes along i was really looking forward to heartlands.
So they canceled this but not skull n bones...wow.
Resources into Rainbow Six; do they need more operators for Siege or are they going to revive that lingering property?
I never really believed in Heartland that much, the only thing that hurts here is the optics of it. Division already isn't looked at with much respect in the gaming industry, and self inflicted L's don't help its reputation. Sad because I love this franchise
To me this is always the problem when the suits decide to chase the next 'big' thing trying to hit literal gold. It rarely works. Let's call it Biowaring™. What does work is when someone has a vision that they stick to and see through to the end. And I second getting Survival in D2. I can't believe it's that difficult.
I hope they take this game and turn it into a DLC in TD3.
Iv'e been thinking about this a bit before commenting, although i had little interest in Heartlands. I'm more concerned with the recent developments. Says to me, the company has no interest in us, and i don't feel like grinding for a year hoping they don't cancel all the rest, to "Focus" on earnings. I'm done. Love the division, everything about it is unique, from the graphics to the story, so engrossing, not any more, just like the rest of the company's,"focusing" on earnings. Then there's sweet baby and the rest chomping at the bit to cripple our entertainment. Not looking good for gaming generally going forward. RIP The Division.
Imagine if we get this for div 2 like planned 😳
everyone needs to chill and wait and see what happens with division 3, they might have heartlands as part of content for next game in trilogy
Thanks for clarifying for people thinking any of this is good for the Division franchise. The IP on the whole lost support, none of the talent is getting us D2 DLC or Division 3 any sooner. They'll be working on FPS games I don't give a shit about instead.
That’s no surprise
When was a it a BR mode?! I tested this in 2021 and it had no BR elements. So I don't know what Ryan is talking about other than maybe on paper in OG concept.
It was simply just a Dark Zone only mode.
A lot can change in 2 years. People would be amazed where it was at prior to cancellation
It's probably never going to happen because Ubisoft won't dedicate that much resources into Division 2 but I really wish they had just given Heartland as a final DLC to Division 2 instead of giving up on the immense amount of hard work that Red Storm devs had put in the development of Heartland. I wish the Division community gets United to rally behind this idea. 😓
Hey Bro , how do u generate ur thumpnails ?
Adobe Photoshop 👍
Thank u ❤️🙂
Man, F having survival back in D3, respectfully. I want it back now. Truly, I had no horse in the Heartland race but I think it sucks for the IP overall. Thats less of the franchise everywhere and its wild that Ubisoft would do that to what is generally regarded as the best live service game out there right now. (It has its flaws yes)
@RogueGold do you worry that division resurgence is going to meet the same fate as heartland?
No, they touted it as one of their big FY24 releases in the same earnings report yesterday. I plan to make a video on that tomorrow 👍
Is there a slight chance that the development team might re-purpose the map of Silver Creek and create something else out of it like they did with Countdown?
Anything is possible. But it would still take a lot of work, and without Red Storm being assigned to help out on Div 2, the current Div 2 team has their resource limitations as we know all too well.
I hope they bring this to div2 2.0 mode
TBH, I was hoping for Heartland to put Division 2 back into my normal cycle of game playing, but as a non-PVP player, I don't see any reason for that to happen.
Really wish they'd just release what they had for Heartland for like $20 and get rid of the live service stuff. They might see that there was more interest than they thought and we'd at least get to experience the lore and all the work that went into the title...
Not a massive pvp player, but this would have put fresh life into division 2
No heartland sucks. I’ve been waiting for this game to itch that survival feeling.
I figured either a cancellation or a total rework was coming after the beta last summer and the silence since. I'm a big fan of PvPvE extraction shooters and also being a Division fan, I was really excited when I found out about Heartland. But the beta was very disappointing imo and it was not received well by the vast majority of players judging by everything I've seen since.
First Ghost Recon Frontlines, then this. Its almost like not making mainline games is a waste of time
I wanted so much to play this with the guys at work. Im so upset..maybe they will put survival in dv3
Survival would be great, but RESISTANCE would be insane in Div2 with 16 man squads doing it...jus picture it RG
feels like the release window slipped away.. and they feared not enough market interesting. I wonder if they felt this would be competing with xdefiant in the free to play realm and wanted to consolidate resources to support the stronger game? I was worrying xdefiant was running into a closing release window too. sad part it.. they didn't want to slide this further out, felt close and they closed the book. shame.
should have been an add on instead of it's own separate spin off .
It's such an L for Unisoft and a shame for us Division fans. I still can't believe it
I personally don't get the hype (on their end ) about XDefiant, it looks and sounds mediocre at best.
I also don't think we've seen the last of Heartland, I think they will pull a "because you demanded it, we listened to you" kind of B.S. stunt and we'll get some form of it in Div2/Div3 DLC.
The sad part is, they could have just charged like 20-60$ and it would have been purchased by many. Its has to be more or less in the same position as div 1 or 2 at release, what a waste
I always wanted a true successor to survival rather than what heartland was turning into, now hopefully they'll line it up correctly for Div3
I think heartland is going to be D3 now or something from HL will be in D3
im glad its canceled. hoping we can get them on track witb both the main games but like u say we could be wrong
Of course Ubisoft knew it was getting axed. That might have included only 3 people, but it was decided. All cancellations and layoffs are planned and timed deliberately. They may seem abrupt to us on the outside and some people on the inside, but Heartland has dead well before yesterday.
Certainly Ubisoft corporate knew, but they allowed people to keep working on it unknowingly.
@@RogueGold Oh yeah, that's par for the course. It's uncool, but it's how it happens. I do think this played into the no Division Day. If you have it and leave out Heartland, you've tipped your hand. If you have it and include Heartland, this shifts from a tragedy to a PR nightmare.
Brooklyn dlc then midwest for div 3
Also, there's no way RS knew about this coming because they were sending out emails for tests as recently as 3 weeks ago.
Crazy how you can be a part of a team and work on a game for a couple of years only for it to be thrown in the trash smh.
i just hope Div 3 sallows up this game/parts of this game, it would be a shame to see nothing from this game
I hope they put red storm supporting div 3 development after they realize that xdefiant will be a big fail.
I hope that this is gonna turn into a ok they helped R6 and Xdefiant launch, lets get heartland back up and running. that is my hope, and wish. I still think it's bs that division has been halted (it does say halted effective immediately they have done this in the past and the game came out years later, skull and bones, which sadly isn't the same game we expected it just tells me that they haven't given up on it just "kicked the can down the road" which again is bs in my opinion) happened to begin with.
If this is going to happen, then they need to fast track the next season bc players will leave. And to think Resurgence will do anything is crazy, when no one asked for it on mobile...smh!
They cancel heartland but put extra resources towards the steaming pile of crap that is XDefiant? 🤦♂️
sooo - maybe it was cancelled because they will implement the mode into either Div2 to prolong its lifespan OR will be a coremode in Div3...
Not surprised
TRUE 🤔🧐🤨💯
Hearing heartlands cancelled but has anyone thought it might come back like assets for the next division games our it might be back for division 4 in the near future and a open world map remember it yes heartlands is cancelled but everything in heartlands might be back for assets thay don't just delete games look at other games that have been cancelled thay came back at assets for it
Could.it.be they decided to release.this survival mode as DLC for.Div 2 or 3?
They better release it as a dlc
Heartland will be incorporated into Division 3
was Heartland supposed to be a BR mode? I don't think so based on the IGN video they posted last year
At conception in 2019, yes. It then went through *many* changes over the years
@@RogueGold yeah i had high hopes as it was BR mode. but the recent changes i seriously didn't like
I wouldn’t be surprised is the next dlc for div2 gets canceled in the next couple of months
I think it depends on how the Star Wars and AC games do. I get the impression Ubisoft hasn't been doing well.
Lots of ppl quit COD to play Div 2, and lots of those ppl were going to try Heartland..in other words..no one wanted a COD clone which despite how fun it looks is what XDefiant will be.. Rogue would it be possible to bring those Red storm employees to work on Div 2 PvP?
Anything is possible, certainly. But given Ubi's statement at 4:49 I'm doubtful
As a day 1 player of the franchise, nothing surprises me any more. Nothing. PvP in TD2 has been so bad for so long, especially if Conflict was your main. Now to find out it was all for nothing just leaves me shaking my head. We went through an awful lot of BS with in TD1, they promised they'd fix it and all they did was completely torpedo the experience. Except for movement, everything about PvP in TD1 is more satisfying. I hope they meant what they said with regards to XDefiant. I think that game has a chance, but I'll believe it when I see it.
Basically they saw the popularity of Division 1: Survival and instead of doing the same thing, they decided to spin it off as a separate game and FAILED BAD.
While it sucks that we’ll never get Heartland, I just hope that they do something with the assets that were created during development as it’s more of a slap in the face to RedStorm than us players if they just decide to throw away four years of work and funding
Its such a weird decision to cancel a division title, but then seemingly chose to not use any of those assets for Div2/Div3 and not fold those teams into one of the teams working on Div2 updates or Div3.
Yup
Bummer😢
This confirms my comment on previos clip: Heartland became a waste of time and resources.
Noone asked for Heartland in 2019 - everyone asked for Survival. All Ubi had to do was drop a D2 style Survival DLC when WONY was released then add Div1 Apparel Events and made Millions.
I said this a long time ago!!! The game mode made no sense and was a waste of time. I even doubled down on this when I heard about D3 and the new D2 content coming in 2025. Not even surprised.
meh, they correctly anticipated that no one wanted a division themed fortnite. Unfortunate they didn't recoup those resources sooner.
So this is just my take but after speaking to a friend who plays nothing but Rainbow Six he told me they are having major server issues with that game. So hearing this it makes me think Heartland was scrapped to use the team members to fix Rainbow Six.
This has me quite concerned for div3 now, I can see Ubisoft putting pressure on massive to get the game out as soon as possible, leading to another typical Ubisoft release, Ubisoft are just so embarrassingly desperate for a new cash cow live service to suckle on.
That comment still doesn't confirm that they won't be a part of The Division development [states that they are working on other projects within company as well as XDefiant and R6], they still could be put on something for Division franchise. I sense a bit of PVP biase
For sure, there might be some minor additions, but from what I know no significant amount of people/resources is going to other Division projects in light of this.
@@RogueGold Thanks after thinking about my comment, I realized that you did comment on that later. Thanks for the confirmation.
Crazy, how they pulled resources from division 2 to work on heartland only to stop heartland only to pull resources again to work on xdefiant 😂
