- Hello Everyone!
Night Springs is probably the longest running sub plot in the Remedy setting. A simple TV show that rose up and took on a life of its own. First appearing in Alan Wake, it has shown up in every subsequent game. A mysterious town where weird things happen. But the town sometimes is a real place.
What is the nature of this mysterious town? How do the events in the episodes eventually become real? At the end of the day, What is Night Springs really?
In today's episode breakdown we will be focusing on the episode, A Doomed Samaritan. A woman is having her friend drive her out of town. However, they come across a car wreck and discover themselves trapped in the rubble.

This is how open world games force players to go no further than the boundaries.
Lmao basically this
I take this as foreshadowing the difficulty of escaping the Dark Place. If Night Springs is to some degree a metaphor for the Dark Place, it seems almost like a law of physics that you can't just walk out, and there's a sort of mounting force keeping you inside. Almost like a wall, but rather than physically blocking you, little reality 'glitches' start building up as you approach the threshold, all directed toward keeping you in.
I didn’t know about this scene cut from original Alan Wake! It’s so satisfying to still be in touch with new things about this game even after all these years.
Also, for me, this episode slightly relates to the loop in time about Thomas Zane writing Alan into existence and leading him to Bright Falls (if we consider his powers works this way). Anyways, thanks for another great video.
Stay tuned about Zane 🧐
@@GamingUniversityUoG 🫡 I might keep an eye on him
I'm glad that Remedy still uses ideas from early ideas for future projects!
I'm sure some writers do similar things. But Remedy feels so open with how they recycle storylines and ideas. It's really cool
I think Remedy has always been ahead of their time. From Northlight tech to the Amazingly well written stories! They take their stories seriously in a industry that in my opinion doesn’t care. In the past silly reviews and the “popularity” contest kept ppl from understanding the quality of their games. I wish Microsoft and Rockstar would give them Quantum break and Max Payne back.
This could just as easily just be a story about a break in causality. The aftermath of an event being the inciting incident for a story to play out.
Which is crazy considering the fate themes that inevitably come with reality bending stories. Alan making adjustments and all that.
I kind of wonder if this is part of why Alan is so insistent that Emma not leave town in American Nightmare.
Well she couldn't leave town even if she wanted to. But it was also for her own safety regarding Taken along the roads. At the end of the day the result is the same.
@@GamingUniversityUoG Sure, but I'm not sure if sitting inside a garage is necessarily safer than getting out of town ASAP. If Alan knew an effect like this was always in play, it makes the safer option a much easier decision.
Man, I am so excited about getting back into the Remedyverse!
November is going to be a crazy month for content!
@@GamingUniversityUoG Yes it is but I shan't be watching any of it until I have thoroughly played AW2.
And Alan Wake 2 begins as an apparent loop. It is a spiral, sure, but this time loop idea was foretold in the first game. Wild...
I can’t wait for the posts on this channel once Alan Wake ll comes out!
I’m already waiting for comment on the things already out!
It's going to be a busy time after AW2 releases. I'm hyped for it!
@@GamingUniversityUoG well take your time xD I wanna finish the game myself before I dig my head into your channel man
Well one of the themes in AW2 is Alan being stuck in a loop (that's not REALLY a loop) in the dark place and that theme will be continued in his story, so I'd say there's the connection there
Thoughts on my Twitter comments? Scratch wrote return, hinted in THoD? Warlin is Martin with the W and L upside down
@GamingUniversityUoG I have been checking your videos on Night Springs and, while quite a few of them might need some revisiting given the events of AW2, this is certainly the most important one.
Your final speculations on storytelling seem to have definitely hit the mark with the teaser for Night Springs given by Mr Door in the most recent episode of the Final Draft :D
REMINDS ME OF THE The Strangest Security Tape I've Ever Seen
Some say that it loops forever this road that I lose you on every time ♪
Haha perfect!
The time loops don't really make much sense to me. They make it look and sound like a truck hit Linda directly, but I guess it's implied hit her friend and their car as well? Then the only thing that remains is Linda's friend. (Meanwhile, with Alan's experience, seeing his own dead body somehow prevented his death in the first place, so it's actually the opposite of a loop?) Maybe the reason the forces stopping people from leaving are so obscure/confusing is because "plot holes" (like from the previous video) are involved; maybe the characters need to stay but the town can't think of a thorough explanation for why they can't leave.
Anyway it's really cruel of Night Springs to prevent Linda's escape by exploiting her goodwill.
If you pay attention, the "truck" is actually their own car. They are stuck in a loop of running over mark stopping to help, and being run over.
@@bookworm3696 That's still confusing for me, though. Why did the past people in the truck not see Linda standing up, or stop after realizing they hit her? They act like the man crawling by the road is the first interesting thing that's happened on the drive.
(To be fair, it is just a optional video in a video game, and the in-universe creators of the episode can't be expected to be perfect, but it still bugs me.)
@@pulsardragon1999 they had an injured version of the friend with them.
Love that detail of one area being called Bright falls and the other Night Springs.... Oposites of each other, yet similar
Like mirror reflections on opposite sides of a lake 🧐
Great work as always
Ok, I watched this episode already, RUclips. Let me just click the not interested buttonahhh!

Nice, a new video.

As long as they keep recommending we are stuck in a time loop. Unable to click off it
Will you be uploading your playthrough of AW2? Cause I really hope so! Would love to be able to witness your analysis and theory crafting as you play
We will be doing a live stream of AW2 on the day of release.
Its not a loop, its a spiral.
Hey GU you excited for AW2? With its possible chance of having more Night Springs? I hope!!
One of the DLC expansions is already confirmed to be called “Night Springs”, so I think we will most definitely be getting more.
Dude I am beyond hyped for AW2! We will 100% get more Night Springs from what I've seen.

No coincidence how closely this relates to AW2
